PREPJEV AZNAVOURA
Red je došao i na ono najteže – kako prepjevati francusku pjesmu na engleski. (Ovo zato, jer francuski nisam učio u školi, a također nisam pohađao ni neki tečaj.) Najprvo sam mislio prepjevati „Retiens la nuit“, ali sam shvatio da prepjev za tu pjesmu postoji već poodavno, kao „Hold Back the Night“, u prepjevu (izgleda) samog Aznavoura. Nedavno sam čuo još jednu njegovu pjesmu, „Les adventuriers“, no u cover verziji Les Compagnons du chancon, i ova verzija mi se više dopala. Dakle, bio mi je veliki izazov prepjevati ovu pjesmu, možda sam u nju uložio najveći napor do sada, ali mislim da je rezultat nedvojbeno više nego samo dobar. (Možda sam bio Francuz u nekoj od prethodnih inkarnacija.:)

To know what they can find at end of universe
To get to know, where the sea will end
They have lost their creed
In between the Sun and neverending sea
Toward horizon – they must've had to strain their eyes
So they almost lost their mind
The reason why
They'd not allowed themselves to die
Although they suffered and cried
Will we ever find?
God had them endowed
Princesses girdled
With chains of love
Keys of paradise – world marvellous
Empire treasured fabulous, fabulous
They have had to go
Because of finding that this world is – way too small
Disappointed by friends and lovers anyway
Tired of living day-to-day
Fame of them remained
Their names appreciated by – the learned men
They'll die one day and contemplate on clouds above
Stars of the sky still unknown
Many less fortunate
On their wages will they depend
Aging by fireside
By regrets they're devoured
But – others boldly go
And there are elders
Who would recall
On Earth no secrets unknown by to them
They would conquer then the Heaven's land
Those Eldorados, such magnificence
The gift for our – brave adventurers
