DIANNA DIVERNO – A WOMAN WHO WRITES WORLD HISTORY
FROM SUBOTICA TO HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
When your screenplays win awards in London, Hollywood and Cannes, when your books are translated and available in bookstores from Australia to Taiwan, and you start writing in a small apartment in Subotica – you know you've touched something eternal.
Dianna Diverno is no ordinary writer. This Subotica-based author of a capital literary opus, whose name today echoes at international film festivals and in prestigious bookstores around the world, is a phenomenon of contemporary art – a woman who has gone from being a local storyteller to a global, acclaimed writer with over 130 literary editions, 28 screeplays and an incredible 70 film awards
WHEN HISTORY BECOMES A PASSION
Her journey wasn't easy, but she was persistent. From 1997, when she began working on her first literary works, until today, Dianna Diverno has built an impressive body of historical novels, crime fiction, children's fairy tales, screenplays for animated films and love poetry.
- As an engaged writer during the last decades, I can admit that the theme of "great stories" always survives as a part of the novelistic fabric itself, guided through forms by the magical power of invention. Historical themes always survive, especially since I have been moving in the world's literary and screenwriting circles over the past years; this is an indisputable fact, and this topic is attended by all classes and ages of various readers – said Dianna Diverno for the Subotica newspaper.
Her edition "Carpathian Heights", which includes such books as "Trianon", "The Last Second for Brasov", "The Holy Crown" and "Until the Last Breath", is dedicated to the most intriguing figure of Hungarian history - King Istvan. But her work "I Loved the President" (Trianon 3) brought her perhaps the world's greatest recognition.
GOLD AWARD IN ROME AND OFFERS FROM HOLLYWOOD
"Especially the script called ''I Loved the President'' brought me numerous awards in Rome, where he won a gold medal, but also in London, New York and Florence," said Diverno with the pride she deserved.
And the beginning of 2026 brought her something that every screenwriter dreams of
- At the beginning of 2026, it was announced that there was interest from the film industry in Hollywood and London for my script "Trianon 3" – I loved the president. I have an offer from film institutions for the development of this project – Diverno revealed.
This is not a coincidence. Her books have been published in Taiwan, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and China, and she is a recognized international author.
Diverno doesn't stop at one genre.
- Especially since 2015, I have been dedicated to working on literary achievements that belong to American crime literature, first through a hexalogy that includes the novels: "Marked to Die", "Wild Johanna", "To Kill in Style", "Miracle Casino", "Zee Monk's Land" and "Story of the Blue Mummy". This was followed by "Samba to Death", which won numerous film awards as a screenplay in New York, Paris, Nashville, San Francisco, Hollywood and other cities.
Her novels span different genres: from the mafia, the military, history, to love and passion. She also writes children's literature, including fairy tales such as "White Fox," "Ferly's Adventure" and "11 Fairy Tales."
THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION OF AN AUTHOR
The numbers speak for themselves: from 15. As of February 2025, Dianne Diverno's books have been viewed more than 270 times on Instagram. Her novels will be available in over 150 translations, and she recently received notice that her work will be available through Bookshop in nearly 3,500 retail stores in the U.S. and U.K.
"I have just received notification from Draft 2 Digital that my work will be available through Bookshop in nearly 3,500 retail stores in the United States and the United Kingdom. I'm also looking forward to a world tour soon, which I think is necessary to interact with readers. I have never given up on my ideals and now I hope for further successful engagement, which I believe is necessary – said the writer.
WORK PHILOSOPHY : BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
When it comes to her success, Diverno is clear
"I have always approached my work through childhood beliefs, that it is important to present myself in all variants and on all continents. That is why the doors of many bookstores around the world are now open to me: in America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa ... These steps were not easy, but they were built day by day, novel by novel, and they bore the fruit I was looking for – says Dianna Diverno.
Her message to young writers is simple but powerful.
"What I would like to say to everyone who writes is to believe in themselves and never doubt their work and activities to which they are committed.
THE WOMAN BEHIND THE WORDS
She understands that writing is a deeply personal experience.
"As far as emotions are concerned, I believe that every author, even with all the skill of his pen, always approaches the topic with a personal feeling. It is important to have a classic form of independence, even through the static of everyday life, and to allow yourself all the level of artistic freedom that is necessary in creative work, whether it is novels, screenplays, fairy tales or forms of love poetry – explained Diverno.
But what is particularly touching about her presence is the awareness of the value of her work.
I don't think you can judge a writer based on just one work. I have published more than 130 literary editions in several languages and it is difficult to give a definitive answer about the traits of a certain creator through just one fairy tale such as "The White Fox" or the novel "Samba to Death" or one of the award-winning screenplays. During my engagement, I had the opportunity to meet world-famous authors, and I was also regularly invited to world film festivals, such as the Cannes Film Festival. In addition, I received a proposal from a studio from Berlin to London to work on my scripts for animated films, and I think that offer from Mr. John still stands – Diverno revealed.
A FUTURE THAT IS ALREADY UNDERWAY
As of July 2025, Diverno has been actively publishing audiobooks on the Apple Books platform, with a particular focus on children and adults with disabilities. Her books are available on platforms such as Amazon, Apple Books and Smashwords, as well as in major bookstores around the world from Britain's Blackwell's, Germany's Hungedubel, Sweden's Bookus and Taiwan's Eslite.
- Acting in the literary space for an author must also be understood through the fact that the reading audience is renewed and supplemented by new generations. If a novel like the already mentioned "I Loved the President" is considered a kind of historical-love evergreen, it gives me a certain satisfaction that I have succeeded in presenting something from the historical treasury – said Diverno.
And when the film industry from Hollywood and London calls at the door, when gold awards arrive from Rome, when your stories are read in eight languages around the world – you know that every hour spent at your desk in Subotica was worth it.
Dianna Diverno is not just a writer. She's a phenomenon. A bridge between cultures. A voice that speaks the universal language of the story. And her story, we would say, is just beginning
