Kylie Opens Her Heart
Intervju za Daily Record u kojem Kylie priča o pobjedi nad rakom dojke, depresiji i novom albumu.
Daily Record: POP princess Kylie Minogue may have beaten breast cancer, won the nation's hearts and resurrected her career, but she admits her life will never be the same.
The stunning singer fell into a depression as she recovered from surgery and chemotherapy to beat the disease.
And although she wants to forget about the cancer she was diagnosed with in 2005, she realises it will always be a part of her life.
Kylie was speaking on the eve of the launch of her latest album, X. Her first single from the album, 2 Hearts, is released next week and is almost certain to see the diminutive star shoot straight back to the top of the charts.
The album will be released alongside White Diamond, a cinema-targeted documentary charting her 2006 Showgirls Homecoming Tour. And Kylie, who is 40 next year, is understandably proud she has conquered the hurdles.
She said: "I feel good. It's strange to think that the album is about to be released, the first people will be listening to it and I'll be getting responses to the documentary. They were my little projects for so long, and now the moment has finally arrived that I've been anticipating for so long.
"I'm trying to get a grip on myself and adapt to the situation. The documentary was shot during my tour and I'm glad it is finally being released.
"The album is brand new, but the film shows a difficult time. First the Showgirl Tour, then my illness, then the Showgirl Homecoming Tour.
"All of this is still very present for me and I'm glad to be able to let go now the film is being released."
But although she wants to move forward with her life, Kylie knows her illness will always be present in some way.
She said: "I'm constantly being reminded of those experiences, not only because people ask me about them, but also because they're a part of my life.
"They're a part of the experiences that make up who I am. I also have to go to my check-ups, things like that.
"It would be great if I could put all these experiences in a box and tie a ribbon around it. But it's not as simple as that, much as I want to believe everything is over."
Resuming her tour after she had beaten the cancer was vital for Kylie, who admits she felt depressed when she was not working.
She said: "I had the feeling I'd been stopped in the middle of a flight. A tour needs to gain momentum. It's just like riding a bike: you need to pedal to gather speed.
"Suddenly I was torn off the seat, aside from all the other things that happened to me.
"Anyway, you always need a little time to find some inner peace after a concert tour. It's a medical condition - post-tour depression.
"This depression suddenly came over me, but I had the goal of continuing the tour, and in retrospect it was a blessing in disguise. "I was absolutely determined to go on.
Looking back can be wonderful and slightly unpleasant. When I see some of the scenes shot backstage in the documentary, when I see excerpts from my performance, I wonder, 'How did you manage that?'
"I just put on blinkers. I didn't know how well I would manage, but I had to do it to remain true to my word.
"I had to prove I had what it takes to continue doing what I had done in the past."
KYLIE quickly found out, however, that she would never quite be the same person she was before the illness.
She said: "I learned that you never get back to a normal state, instead you create a new normal state.
"I have to accept my life for its triumphs and its other sides, take the good with the bad.
"I experienced a totally new environment. I experienced a world of illness and positive attitudes. The sympathy you're shown can knock you off your feet.
"These experiences contributed to making me a more mature person.
"It's nearly impossible to describe this experience but it would be great if I could have a positive influence on people's lives."
And she credits her ex-boyfriend Olivier Martinez with helping her through the very tough times - including convincing her she was going to survive.
She added: "Olivier is amazing. He was really supportive through the first Showgirl Tour. And he was with me when I heard the diagnosis.
"When the going gets tough and in times of crisis you learn a lot about people. He helped me through that period. And when I had doubts that helped me."
Another special man who has been by her side throughout her battles is her creative director William Baker, who Kylie calls her 'gay husband'. He started out as her stylist but is now a friend who she spends much of her time with.
It was William who created the new image for the album, which was based on Athena posters from the Seventies and Eighties.
Kylie said: "Willie and I try to come up with an idea that differs from our past ones.
"And the last idea was the Showgirl Tour with the feathers and all the accessories. That will certainly remain an element in my shows.
"But we carried this to such extremes that I can't imagine we could improve on the Showgirl look. Basically, that would bore us. The time was ripe for something new.
"The electro rock element in the new album and the references to the Eighties references helped us arrive at our new style: expressive but not harsh.
"Willie and I have a symbiotic relationship. There's a certain creative connection between us in addition to our friendship.
"We trust each other. I can really open up and do things that I'm not necessarily capable of doing with another person.
"He's a bundle of creativity, and we always have a lot of laughs together. He started as a stylist, but today he's my friend, my gay husband. We're as good as married. We're very dependent on each other."
Many of her costumes from over the years are on display in Kylie: The Exhibition at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum - including her famous gold hotpants.
But she says they were never intended for public viewing at such close quarters.
"It is strange to see all the costumes like that since they were designed and created for very different moments," Kylie said.
"For example, the Showgirl costume needed to look good close up and also to have a great effect from the rear of the arena.
"The outfits that were made for my videos only had to look good on film. The white outfit that I wear in the Can't Get You Out of My Head video looks absolutely dreary on a hanger. But all the costumes worked in the right context. I found it strange to see them there devoid of life."
She saves the final word to hit back at ex-Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown, who said her award as Q Icon of the year was wrong because her music was 'rubbish'.
Kylie simply says: "In the field of pop its easy to say I'm not an artist. Well, everything you do is artistry and also I'm not around for 20 years just out of luck."
