John Lennon Chosen as "NME" Magazine’s Ultimate Musical Icon Late Beatles legend John Lennon has been chosen as the Ultimate Musical Icon of the last 60 years in a poll organized by U.K. magazine NME to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Voting began six months ago, with NME offering an initial list of 60 artists from which readers could pick. A total of 160,000 votes were cast. Among the other famous musicians who landed in the top 10 of the poll are David Bowie at #3 and Jimi Hendrix at #7. All 60 icons chosen by NME are highlighted in a special issue of the magazine that’s available now. Here are the top 10 vote-getters of NME‘s Ultimate Musical Icon poll: 1. John Lennon 2.
