So I have had two, incredibly vivid dreams (about 2 weeks apart) that were chronologically in order, involving the same people, and continuing a the same story line. They have been so vivid in fact, that I am considering writing them out as a short story. They don't *really* involve people I know, but they include characters *like* people I know. I think that my be what makes them so disturbing and interesting at the same time. I wake up thinking, "OMG! What's going on in my head??" and "Hey...what happens next??" at the same time. The way the characters interact is a little unnerving (yes, it involves me.)I guess the questions are...1. What does having dreams like this say about my psyche?2. Should I take the time to write it out in story form?Input?
Well...over the weekend, I made it up to see baby Ava and she is doing pretty well. She is already up to 4 lbs. 7 oz. and she is up to eating 15 cc's of milk each feeding (from 5 a week ago.) She is still tiny and not quite "out of the woods", but she is doing remarkably well for her age.Big sister got to come home on Saturday after 25 days in the hospital. She is healing, slowly but surely, but it has been hard for her to leave Ava at the hospital (understandably so!) I hope she will settle into a schedule, and I suspect things will get easier from there.Grandma is staying with them for the week to try to get everything back in order at home. E is adjusting to having Mom home again and Dad is adjusting to having her there, but not really able to do much. I have to admit, the weekend was incredibly exhausting, but I was glad to help. Even though sleep was definately lacking. Here comes the sigh...I think I'm getting sick again. I have felt achey and headachy all day. My throat's a little sore and my ear hurts. Awesome. At least I got my book read and lesson done for this week, tonight. One less thing to worry about. (Side note: If you are interesting in reading a "turn-of-the-century uptopian novel...check out Edward Bellamy's "Looking Backward." It's actually a pretty good read. I enjoyed it much more than "Animal Farm" by Orwell.)For those of you who will undoubtedly ask, since Steve put the new pieces in the computer last week, our scanner hasn't been working. I will get new pictures of Ava and Elliott up as soon as I can. :-)
We have baby!Ava Elizabeth was born at 8:41 pm, February 1, 2006. She weighs 4 pounds 2 ounces (at 32 weeks!) and she is breathing on her own!Mom is also doing well...apparently she dialated very quickly and they decided to go ahead and deliver (c-section for safety.) I don't have a clue how long she is (Dad was too excited to remember) but she's got a little bit of red hair and a nice round face like Elliott.I'm going to pick up Grandma and we are headed up this weekend to visit the little precious! (Well, and Darnell and Elliott and Matt.)It seems nice to have such a good outcome to a situation that could have been so awful! Thanks for all your good wishes and pictures will be up as soon as I have them!
Baby Ava is on her way!! More updates on mother and baby as they arrive!Hey! I get to be an Auntie again...TODAY!
I cannot understand how, in 2006, anyone can think this is appropriate.
Have you hugged your local historian today?
Call me fan-girl but....

Go there! I know it's a long-shot, but wouldn't it be cool to have another season of Firefly???!
News on the baby front! (sort of)
No baby yet. I returned from Minneapolis today. Big sister and baby are doing pretty well in the hospital. She had some pretty regular contractions last night, but they subsided by morning and the doctors now feel fairly positive that the baby will make it till 32 weeks, which would be fantastic. After a few days of some pretty severe Type-A personality issues, I think that my sister has finally mellowed out and succumb to the idea of being in the hospital for an extended stay. She had a good talk with a massage therapist/guided visualization (I think) person that convinced her to do what we had been telling her all along...let people help you. She got her to write out the anxiety and negative feelings, as well as the positive feelings in a journal that she will be able to share with Ava (baby) down the road. I planned on staying up there until tomorrow, but she seemed much better today, so I decided to head home.
Upon the return, I find out that leaving your life for 4 days has reprocussions. 16 emails that need to be answered and an apartment that needs to be vacuumed BADLY! Ah well, I had some fantastic bonding time with E-man and I was bestowed a new name. Kris-ee-T. Auntie Kris-ee-T. I like it.
Mr. Dirty-Face here, thoroughly enjoyed his Eggos and Chocolate Milk for Breakfast.
This one's from Christmas. E and Grandma were having a fantastic time in the kitchen at Grandma's house!
I just recieved a phone call from Mom. My sister's water broke tonight on baby #2. There's just one catch...she's 10 weeks early. The baby is technically "due" March 28. They have begun giving her medicines to try to stop the labor and they think that if the baby doesn't come tonight or tomorrow, she proably won't come for at least 2-3 more weeks. If she doesn't come, poor sister is in the hospital until the baby does come. The word is, possibly as much as 7 weeks before they would do an early c-section anyway. Either way, Ms. Baby will be in the hospital, in an incubator for a month or more. Here's the good news:The baby is perfectly formed and appears to be absolutely healthy. They have been giving her some kind of steroid injections to help her lungs grow a little faster. Mom and baby will be in one of the best neo-natal hospitals in the country. The doctors say that they are 99.9% sure that if the baby does come today, she will be just fine.Apparently, when Elliott and Dad left the hospital tonight, he looked at Mom and said, "Mamma Boo-Boo??" They just told him that Mom has a boo-boo and that he will see her tomorrow. How, on God's green earth, do you explain this to a 2 year old? My sister's a strong lady. Even so, please put your prayers in for her and the baby. They could use it. Who knows....maybe I'll be an Auntie again by morning?!
Sitting. Waiting for the words to come. *Splitting* headache.
As has been the fashion for the last few weeks, my body decided to move
into insomniac mode last night. I really don't understand what
the issue has been for the last few weeks. I used to be really
good at sleeping. Lately, however, I have had some distinct
problems in this arena. Seeing the early side of 3 am when you
really need to be up at 7 am does deadly things to ones productivity
for the day. Today, Tuesday, is an unique day in my stream of
events this semester because it is the only day that I don't *have* to
be up at 7. There's a catch, though. My thesis *has* to be
done this semester. Last day for cancellation of graduation is
March 24, so if it's not ready to go by then, no graduation for me
until August. I realize that this, with the combination of a new
semester, may be what's destroyed my sleep patterns...but damn, this
will be my life on the professor track. Good, quality, regular
sleep needs to come soon.
I have had the greatest desire to write in the last few weeks, which is
good, but when I sat down to write today, things have not turned out so
well. Currently, after 2 hours of work....I have one
paragraph. Actually, it's more like 3 sentances. My goal of
posting here is to encourage the words. Maybe, just maybe, if I
get some out here, the rest of the words can sort themselves out in the
word document. I have had some killer ispriation from
cmpriest
recently. If you don't know of her, take a look at her LJ.
She's a wonderful writer, who's actually starting to make a living at
it. I noticed her first book at B & N the other day and went,
"Hey! I know her!" Of course I really don't know her, but
after a year and a half of reading her blog, it sort of feels as though I do.
Someday, just someday, I really wish that I could have some measure of
success.
I've (well, actually Steve) figured out that if I write 2 pages each
week-day, I can get the thesis done in 6 weeks. Wish me luck!
* If you were curious about the title, I recieved The Essential Johnny Cash for Christmas from my mother and I can't say enough good
things about it. If you are so inclined, take a look. You won't regret it.
In a line of yet another "girl's night out," the gals and I hit the movies tonight for a viewing of the most recent adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. I will preface this by saying, it stars Kiera Knightly as Elizabeth Bennett. Were we in for a treat??
As many of you may already know, the girls and I have a passion for the real Mr. Darcy...Colin Firth. Dreamy, sexy, and oh so brooding, he IS Mr. Darcy. This new guy....he is nothing but a sad, pitiful imitation Darcy. Besides the fact that Lizzie always looks like she wants to take a chunk out of Mr. Darcy's neck (Kiera Knightly has fang teeth) she is constantly dishelvled and entirely over-dramatic. It is a sad day when Kiera Knightly carries most of the scenes that she is in. The writers took some liberties with the story line that made, well all of us shudder. If you remember the part where Lizzie visits Pemberley with her Aunt and Uncle and stares at the painting of Mr. Darcy...you will be sad to know that in this version, the painting has been replaced with a BUST!!!! Gina nearly lost it laughing out loud at Lizzie staring at the creepy bust of Mr. Darcy. Also, his first proposal is dramatized to the nines by changing the setting to a rainstorm. When the appropriate time for the proposal passed, we all went WTF?? only to have it added in later. And that Mr. Collins....he's just sad.
Besides, the acting, there were several parts of the movie that could have easily been cut for what one could care to call "content." Lizzie is reduced to staring in a mirror numerous times throughout the movie and a nauseating sequence of her spinning on a swing. It would have been most lovely to have some of Lydia's story (which was nearly left out entirely) in this dead time.
The good stuff.....
Mr. Bingly is dead on. He may be as good or possibly a bit better than Mr. Bingly from the 6 hour BBC version.
Donald Sutherland (in the five minutes he was on screen) was delightful as Mr. Bennett
Judi Dench (as always) was wonderful.
The costumes were beautiful and the camera work of the English countryside was quite nice.
As was said after the movie....if this had not been based on anything, it would have been quite nice. As it is...Matthew MacFayden is no Mr. Darcy.
As a consolation prize...here is our beloved Mr. Darcy.
Phew! I made it!
It's official....
Finals are graded.
Final Grades are figured.
First Chapter of Thesis is done, printed and turned in.
Tomorrow...
Meeting with the boss man about entering final grades/adjusting grades for good behavior.
It is such a relief to know that I have 3 weeks with (few)
responsibilities. Sure...there are some books I should read over
break for next semester and I should write the introduction for my
thesis (since I know where it is going now.) What am I really
going to do for at least the next week???
Play lots of Animal Crossing
Watch GH (haven't seen it in 2-3 weeks)
Finish Christmas Shopping
Have Fun!!!
I must confess, though, that Steve and I broke out and had some fun
tonight, too. We went to see "Little Shop of Horrors" at the DSM
Civic Center. As one of my favorite movies of all time, this show
had some history to live up to. It did it magnificently!
There are some scenes that were added for the stage production to
explain things that were obvious because of backgrounds in the movie,
but they only did well to add quality to the show. Steve and I
were both thoroughly impressed.
Now....to peel the DS out of the husbands hands....then some sleep.
My new toy....who wants to play??
Nintendo DS MarioKart Bundle (complete with flames!)
BTW.....I got Animal Crossing Wild World, too. If you need me over Christmas break, I suggest visiting my town. :-)
I am now starting the TOTAL rewrite of the first chapter of my thesis. I was informed this morning that the first draft was, and I quote, "yucky and boring." Lovely. Just fucking lovely.
I was just stuck in the elevator in Ross Hall for 20 minutes! Everything was fine until the other woman in the elevator said, "You aren't claustrophobic, are you??"Yes...yes in fact I am.Finally the the controls cleared and we were able to open the door! Thank God!I'm still shaking....
