Mnogo ljudi koji su ikada slušali Maidene zasigurno pamte baš 2 Minutes to Midnight. Vjerojatno zbog upečatljivog refrena i odličnih riffova.
Ova pjesma, jedan od istinskih klasika Heavy metala. Snimljena je na albumu Powerslave 1984 godine. Maideni su njome samo pokazali kako oni pjevaju o mnogim stvarima, o smrti, boli, ljubavi, ratu ali i miru. Ovo je bez ikakve dvojbe antiratna pjesma proizašla iz sjećanja na hladni rat. No što bi značilo ''2 Minutes to Midnigt''?
Naime, postoji takozvani Doomsday Clock koji posjeduju likovi na sveučilištu u Chicagu. Taj sat je simboličnog značenja. Tu dolazimo do pojma ''ponoć''. Ponoć znači nuklearni rat. A nuklearni rat bi dakako značio uništenje čovječanstva. Najbliže što je sat ikada bio blizu ponoći je te famozne dvije minute. Mi se trenutačno nalazimo na pet minuta do ponoći zbog nuklearne krize sa Irakom i nekih Sjevernokorejskih testiranja. Da su se Maideni ovih dana sjetili napisati tu pjesmu zvala bi se 5 Minutes to Midnight. Čini se nažalost kako pred nama još ima i previše mržnje, ratova i nuklearnih kriza. Na nama je da se potrudimo da kazaljke ne dosegnu ponoć, jer smo osuđeni na sigurnu propast ...
