26th Annual Pacific Rim International Conference on Disabilities

The Call for Proposals is Now Open for the 26th Pacific Rim International Conference on Disabilities!

The Center on Disability Studies at the University of Hawai‘i cordially invites you to submit a proposal to the 26th Annual Pacific Rim International Conference on Disabilities on April 12th and 13th, 2009 in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. In the tradition of Pac Rim, the 2009 conference will revisit familiar themes and explore new directions through scholarship, best practice, and international networking. Join us, and continue this extraordinary journey. We will have several pre and post conference forums, including the International Forum on the Rights of People with Disabilities , Capacity Building Institutes, a Youth Advocacy Forum, an international film festival , and much, much more.

We have a new Conference Design! The 2010 Pacific Rim International Conference program design has been reorganized into three broad, thematic areas: Foundation , the topical areas the Center for Disability Studies has been or is currently engaged in; Exploration , probing topics that CDS has not previously addressed but have impact on the security and well-being of all people with disabilities; and Innovation which seeks to showcase new ideas, concepts, solutions, ideas and applications that can benefit people with disabilities during this economic downturn.

Foundation topic areas are : Autism, Culturally Responsive Response to Intervention (RTI), Disability Studies and Disability Culture, Employment, Hidden Disabilities, Independent Living, Living Healthy and Aging Well, Teach to reach All Learners, Technologies for the future, Transition to Postsecondary Education, Youth Advocacy and Video Self-Modeling.

Exploration topic areas are: Environmental Toxins, Gender and Ethnicity, War and Disability, Sustainable Futures, and Disability Rights.

Please consider submitting a proposal to what will be an outstanding international conference next year!

To support your attendance Pac Rim 2010 will provide an early acceptance notice within 2-3 weeks of your submission. Conference rates are very reasonable and we have chosen the Hilton Hawaiian Village to be our main conference hotel. We will be providing transportation to and from the hotels to the conference site. We will also help facilitate room-shares if you are trying to keep your costs low. We all need to be together!

If you are only able to attend one conference this year, choose PacRim 2010 in Waikiki, Hawaii at the beautiful Hawaii Convention Center . Traditionally this conference is one of the most exciting for attendees and presenters—providing a unique balance of cultures, and issues of local, national and international importance. This year’s conference will seek to better these efforts and provide you with a most unique and exceptional experience—we hope to be seeing you in Honolulu in April.
