Bibione... the beginning...

The mighty Zagreb contingent arrived at Bibione starting in the afternoon on Thursday, April 30. Three cars. The Costa Rica hotel apartments were about a block from the beach so after a speech from the owner about how valuable all the contents of the apartment were -- "If you break anything it'll cost 600 Euros ..." -- the team kicked back a handful of beers and walked to the beach for a throw-around and to check out the fields: small but with big end zones.

Back to the apartments for another few beers, some snooker on the TV, some cocaine (the song for god sakes), and showers. (Cold water only, except in room 203 where there was only scalding hot agua. Apparently the overly careful apartment owner hadn't been careful enough to turn on the hot water for the only people staying at his building of apartments.)

Dinner was everyone's own responsibility on Thursday so part of the team decided to go to a pizzeria. The pizza was okay ... but the service was impeccable (there were more waiters than clients so one couldn't even sneeze without having an Italian putting a tissue to his nose before one could say Jackie Robinson). The most redeeming quality of of the restaurant: the inordinate number of mosquitoes. The team renamed the place: Mosquito Pizzeria.

The evening found the group ready and pumped up about the first day of games. The plan for Friday a.m.: eat, dress, coffee, and then meet at 8:45 to walk to the fields and get ready for some ass-kicking.
