Hrvatski ultimate

Most people have heard about Superman. You know the jingle “It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s…” However, if you are still looking to the skies for an ultimate player that is our hero, you should quit now.


You do not need to act so surprised. We might win every game with superman on our team, but we would be bored! We have a hero that will be the life of the party. Someone strong and who can have fun on the field.


Our hero is willing to train in the worst conditions. He spends countless hours working as hard as you and me. He is even willing to haul his wife to and from practices, meetings, and tournaments!


His disguises are very simple.


But what can you expect? Superman only had a camera and a pair of glasses. Our hero will change disguises to meet the needs of the weather.


I know, I know a common man by weekday a hero by weekend, the story has been told. You need to know our hero is unique. Even if this doesn’t impress all the ladies…


…we enjoy laughing anyway. Besides, our hero has the lady he wants and needs. Team members have witnessed first hand his stellar acrobatics and speed on and off the field.


There have been a couple of cases where our members are shocked. It has been known to take a couple of seconds before they recover from the thrill.


What? You still do not believe me? Well don’t worry you will soon enough. There are people out willing to campaign for this guy. You will hear the shouts, “Down with superman. Ninja our hero!”


I, for one, will jump on the band wagon. You will see me supporting him in any way possible. If ninja says, “First, I need a beer.” I will be there and say, “Cheers!”

Hanzo took the lead as captain for the men’s team. After a long night on the bus, he found out we might have to play five games in one day and needed to sit down to figure out how we would win one game.


While our captain was thinking about game play Chep decide he might have a chance to be the team’s biggest eater. Unfortunately for Chep, our captain became ‘friends’ with a Chick who takes a lot of pictures.


When Hanzo saw the pictures on the camera he laughed and stated, “Nice try!” We were then informed that our captain with a bottomless stomach already ate 5 sandwiches and was looking for a real lunch.


After watching the Chicks have a tough Saturday on the field. Our gracious host/guest Martina decided there was a chance to win the party, or at least get drunk trying. Some of the team ‘went to bed’ early, but at least four didn’t leave until the DJ quit playing.


Mama and Marta would not be picked as two of the people who closed down the party by their vivid and energetic look the next morning. It could be debated that they won the party. The most amazing thought that morning came from tournament rookie’s (Marta) lips, “When is the next party?” The comment made Ruki sit down and think.


How is Marta able to play after a party night during the tournament? Maybe I should study Marta’s party habits. (Ruki is still trying to remember or forget his first tournament party.) And poor Marta did not know that during a weekend tournament there is only one night party. Luckily, Josip was walking by and said, “I need a beer.” But if you want to know more about Ninja… you will have to wait…because he will need a post to himself.

Our club did not rank themselves in the top half of a bracket... in fact "We won the wrong games!" Martina our Austrian leader in charge, made us feel welcome and helped us have fun. She did not write about herself but should have. She was the heart and soul of both male and female team. Although the screwy schedule killed the guys team, it did allow the girls to play with us. Martina was a constant calming force on the field and I look forward to having her on our team in the next tournament.

Martina had just a little to say about everyone....

Chris – I really liked you analyzing the play, motivating everyone and keeping the overview on the field!

Dario – it was really nice watching you taking the key player position!

Ivan – I liked it seeing you getting the disk, breathing and calmly playing it on! That´s great!(more than Great...It is Super and it helped us win some games!)

Josip – whow – you had some awesome catches in the endzone!!!(and the best humor. Ninja makes us all laugh.)

Ruki – I love your energy on the field and your strong will for getting the disk!! (Learned how to play wing so well they did not want to throw on your side of the field!)

And… thanks guys for letting us girls play some points with you!!! Our guys were also supported by Nikolaus (an Austrian guy) and Greg (an american friend of doremouse)!!!



However… there was a second Croatian team playing in Winterleague with a fabulous result…
Chicks with Disks came out 5th (!!!!!!) of 10!!! Yippie!!!!!! For me it feels like winning the tournament – really!!! I´m so proud! (and this is only their second tournament.)

Hana - Thanks for the awesome handling and bringing some structure in our play!!!

Majchh - Thanks for the handling too and wow... you put a lot of pressure on the handlers as a mark in the zone!!! And I love your catching the very low discs and the discs so close to the sideline – you always manage to catch them inside – that´s really amazing!!!

Teja – Thanks for being that open all the time! Your marking in the zone – wow! You gave our opponent really a hard time!

Iva – I love it watching your acting on the field, not only reacting – you improved sooooo much! You´re getting open so often, you are throwing pointpasses calmly, you put a lot of pressure on your opponent as a mark – great to see!

Marina – sticky fingers – even if you don´t really like it – marking in the zone defense – that´s your position!!! Awesome watching you putting such a pressure on the others! Nice timing in playing zone offense!!

Marta – our Rookie – your first tournament – wow!!!! You got the disc, you threw safe passes, playing solid defense – that´s everything you need in playing ultimate! You did a really great job in the tournament! – So.. keep on playing!!!

Zdravka – You are our woman for popping in the zone – I like it watching you playing offense against zone. Your defense improved a lot in comparison to Weiz – wow!!! That´s gooood!!!

Veu – Neptune gets it all!!! You always get the disc – if it´s offense or defense – no worries – you´re always ready for catching the „gold“. Amazing d´s (!!!), great catches in offense – you´re so good in reading the discs – it´s impressive!!!
