TA Training

Ah, a whole day of meetings. Sitting in one spot for 7 hours is just about enough for me. On the whole, the day wasn't actually so bad. Dr. Bailey was in a good mood today! (woohoo!) There were also a good number of "old" TAs there, which meant that a large percentage of us already knew each other and could have some fun during the day.
First there were expectations, then policies and procedures, then grading, and finally teaching. At some level, everyone in the room had some experience teaching, so much of the day was spent preaching to the choir, but it got my head thinking about teaching strategies again and what I should expect from my students.
I think I'll work on my syllabus tonight because I *finally* found out what I'm teaching for the fall. US Society and Culture in the 1800s. All day, people kept saying..."do you know what you are in for??" Well, yes, in fact I do. I took the class some 4 years ago. It's going to be a lot of work from a grading perspective (2 4-blue book essay tests and 8 2-3 page journal article reviews) but I'm really comfortable with the time period, the material, and the professor. So life should be good...just busy.
Mom's coming down tomorrow to spend the weekend. I think we're heading to Stomping Grounds for brunch, then off to the pottery studio to paint some works. Most likely tomorrow night we will be heading up to Minneapolis to visit Darnell, Matt and Elliott (an the new baby, too, I guess :-) ) There was a little scare with the baby last week, but we found out today that everything is back in order and the baby is doing great! What a relief! Anywho...we decided to go give her some company and, oh yeah, play with Elliott.
Steve's in Indy this weekend. Versus PTQ. I'm hoping things turn out well. *fingers crossed*
Well, after a long day, I think I'm going to go read my "Glamour" and watch some "Sex and the City" How girly can you get??? :-)
