I'm up late studying for another test

I'm up late studying for another test. Will the torment never end? It's kind of funny what you'll think of to memorize random information. Random menu options for the random radio of the week becomes "Sexy Girls Say Intercourse Comes Too Late, Excepting Clowns and Vampires." That's supposed to help me remember something. Something with an "s", something with a "g". I'll get halfway done and just write down "vampires."Time to sleep. God, what a luxury- and it's free too. Can life get any better? I submit that it cannot.

Things either become a moral imperative

Things either become a moral imperative, or they go away. I found out that I enjoy my life more when I'm able to simplify, simplify. The longer I'm away from living in the woods, the more I get sucked into "normal" life. I find myself wanting things that I don't need, and needing things I don't want.I had a great weekend. I got to spend some time with old friends, and to make some new ones. But I have to get back to work and study for my exam tomorrow. Oh, crappy, crappy radio- why must you haunt me so?Croy is singing about how Johhny Cash sang about gothic robots and death and leaves that made said robots explode due to their inability to judge the weight of things based on their appearance. To quote a bit -Armageddon don't mean shit to mebecause I live in a cubiclebecause looking at satan's faceis better than sitting through another situation report. And then a robot cameand a ninja came and sat downand they had diplomatic relations.Robots and ninjas go hand in handlike peas in a pod.My uncle was a robot,my aunt was a ninja. They had a kid- we was a jew.But he became a Mormon. And my robot uncle didn't know what to do.So Johnny Cash sang about itand Sheryl Crow kicked him in the face. This is what I have to live with every day... now it's time to get some sleep, and hope that I don't get woken up at three tomorrow morning.Happy birthday to everyone. Thanks for the party. Goodnight.

MRSA!

Happy Fourth. For those of you who don't know, I'm recovering from a rather nasty run-in with a flesh-eating bacteria. It was ...um, removed in time, so I get to keep my arm. (That's always a bonus.)I'll try and post some pictures of the atermath when I can get them off my cameraphone. It's actually pretty cool- I have a giant hole in my arm that goes to the bone. Fun stuff. And I'm trying now to get kicked out of my current hase of the Q-Course because on an inability to do PT because of said hole in arm. At the worst, I'd get recycled and have to wait a few months for the next class. That's something I'd rather not do, but at the same time it might give me a break. So... whatever. I might have some more leave coming up soon. Hooray for flesh-eating bacteria.

Back in town for the night

Back in town for the night. Trying to not freak out about various things. Looking for friends to do things with... not seeming to find any that are free.Slowly going crazy and doing geeky things like rebuilding my PII 333Mhz system out of parts I found in my parent's garage. Stupid power supply fried itself over the last year and now I have to find a new one. Intrex won't open until 10:00 tomorrow (today?) so I might as well get some early coffee and chill for a while.

My vacation is almost over

My vacation is almost over, and I feel like I haven't done anything.I went to Myrtle Beach for a few days, but that was a mistake. No peace or quiet. Just loud teenagers and lots of old people. Oh, and did I mention the place was cralwing with Marines? Ya gotta love Marines. But enough of my bitching. A good buddy of mine is getting deployed soon, and it's gotten me thinking. I'm sure he's ready, but I know that I'm not. And there's a part of me that wants to worry for him, but I know he'll be fine. There's just not going to be that much good wine in the part of the world he's going to. I'd call him if I know what to say, and I'd call his wife if I thought I could help her out somehow... but I have no idea what to tell either of them except I care deeply about both of them- and that's not something you just call up another man and tell him.

Back in Raleigh

Back in Raleigh, finally.I got to take E. and Mu out for dinner the other night. Good friends and good wine, and I spent way too much money. It's a good thing that I'll be unable to spend my next few paychecks, as I'll be somewhere in suck-ville doing flutter kicks and running a lot. Or something like that. But the wine was good.My brother is getting married in a few days, and my parents are freaking out about the wedding. I guess it's normal, it's just weird. He's four years younger than I am, and his in-laws are already harassing him about grandchildren. I'm not ready to be an uncle, and I know he's not ready to be a father, so the whole thing is kind of creepy.Konami has released Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater on the PS2, but have left us XBox owner our in the cold. Don't they realize that wars have started over less? Seriously, this sort of segregation should have left our society along with segregated water fouintains and white-only bus seating. It just makes me sad, that's all.And so, my days and nights are free for the next two weeks. Should a party break out or someone need a partner for pool, I volunteer my services to help save the day.But now, sleep.

I have less than a week to go now

I have less than a week to go now, and I'm trying not to freak out. I knew this would happen, but I think I can deal with it. It's like going to the doctor and knowing they're going to have to give you a shot; the anticipation is far worse than the act itself. Except in this case, I don't know if that's true or not.Tomorrow is a day of tests. I have to take a made-up gobbledegook language test tomorrow morning to test my capacity for understanding... well, I'm not sure quite what it tests. I guess, should I ever get lost and have to communicate with munchkins in their own, made-up language, I'll have some experience. After that, it's my first official PT test. My last unofficial test with Evan went quite poorly, so any sort of improvement is good. I feel okay about that one; I've been drinking plenty of milk. And then, hopefully, the sweet oblivion of sleep. But first- more ruckmarching. Whee! I can't wait until I stop doing this sort of thing for "fun" and start doing it because I have to.(I don't suppose it's very military to say "whee!". I'll have to watch that.)

Well

Well, the days until I leave grow short...I'm nervous, but ready. I want to go right now, this instant, just to be rid of the anticipation. What I'm doing is the right choice for me, but not for everyone. And I'm not the first- millions have gone before me. Still, I can't help but feel like I'm stepping into a new frontier. The world is changing, the military with it. Who can say what's going to happen a year from now? The only thing we used to be certain of was another crappy Olsen twins movie, and even that looks unlikely now.Well, anyway... stinebeanboo has declared that a party will be thrown down. Not for me, mind you... that wouldn't sit well with me... but for no reason in particular. Throwing down is to commence sometime on or around the 17th at stinebeanboo's place. Bring yourself and your mojo. (note: mojo optional) Come one, come all. Unless I don't like you (but you know who you are). If we haven't seen each other in months or years it's the perfect opportunity to see each other before we don't see each other again for months or years. If we're close then I expect you to be there by default, no exceptions.-namaste

Chillaxin on the Day Off

Today was brilliant. No, really. And not in a sarcastic way. It's my first day off of work in two and a half weeks! Since I have to go back to work tomorrow, I'm trying to cram as much enjoyment into today as possible. And for those of you who are interested- the pool at the apartment is quite cold. So cold, in fact, that I think I went into shock and was in the early stages of hypothermia when I somehow came to my senses and got out. But even that was fun, since I wasn't at work. There apparently was some confusion over venue selection last night for Carole's birthday. I'm hoping that certain parties, namely
