"Fawns are left alone by their mothers for long times. They stay quiet and crouched/lay down. This is a "normal" process for them and makes them save from predators because appearently they dont smell at this age (dont ask me how that works).
Its quite common for agricultural vehicles to drive over them and kill them because their instinct is to stay and not run away as its usually the safest for them and the drivers of heavy machines dont see them in the grass."
