One half of the seminal electronic duo Suicide, Alan Vega was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1948. He began his career as a visual artist, gaining notoriety for his "light sculptures; " eventually Vega opened his own lower Manhattan gallery space, which he dubbed the Project of Living Artists. The Project served as a stomping grounds for the likes of the New York Dolls, Television and Blondie as well as the 15-piece jazz group Reverend B., which featured a musician named Martin Rev on electric piano. Soon, Vega and Rev formed Suicide, whose minimalist, aggressive music — a fusion of Rev's ominous, repetitive keyboards and Vega's rockabilly snarl — helped paved the direction for the electronic artists of the future.
Suicide disbanded in 1980, and both Vega and Rev undertook solo careers. Vega's self-titled 1981 debut and his later that year second effort Collision Drive continued to explore the fractured rockabilly identity he had established in his earlier work. 1983's Saturn Strip, produced by longtime fan Ric Ocasek, marked Vega's debut for Elektra Records; corporate relations soured during production for 1985's Just a Million Dreams, however, and at one point the label even attempted to remove the singer from his own studio sessions.
Alan Vega used to say that as beeing basically a sculptor, music was secondary for him. Was that just another provocation? Alan Vega is anyway a true legend (a romantic hero or a deamer for some), joining for any kinds of obscure or more visible projects. He actually induces what Legs McNeil calls the astonishment, a mixture of fascination, made of repulsion and admiration: otherwise, how can one continue to adulate somebody who is ok with just a 30 minutes act (sometimes less, sometimes more) without any communication with the assitance? He's probably one of the original punks actors of the CBGB (New York Dolls, Ramones, Richard Hell, Wayne County, etc... see the compilation Songs of the Naked City) and someone which remains the most homogeneous and with the most credible attitude. His latest release is Station (2007)

It is the band's second album with the label, following 2006's Game Theory. The album's title presumably comes from William T. Vollmann's 2004 book Rising Up and Rising Down: Some Thoughts on violence, freedom and urgent means.

Spin focuses on the progressive new music scene and young adult culture involved with alternative music. Each issue includes reviews, essays, profiles and interviews on a range of music from rock to jazz.
Founded in 1985 by Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione's son, Bob Jr., Spin magazine aimed to occupy a space forged and outgrown by Rolling Stone, which had since moved on from counter-culture reporting to a more pop-culture focus. Due to its well-funded birth, Spin rode the wave of the burgeoning alternative rock movement and was afforded the luxury of being as controversial as it wanted, forsaking at times somewhat slanted reporting in favor of the punch and jibe. Nonetheless, it brought into America's peripheral vision early stories of the ravages of AIDS in Africa, in addition to standard artist interviews and album reviews. Switching from a tabloid format to a glossy perfect-bound publication, the magazine now reports on fleeting music trends and the Next Big Thing more than it unearths alternative-rock gems, but it still does a good job of uncovering behind-the-scenes-stories, such as the violent acts and deplorably unhygienic conditions of 1999's Woodstock III music festival, in a way no other music magazine does. When the Beastie Boys released Hello Nasty in 1998, Spin published three different editions of the magazine--each with a separate headshot of one member of the renegade hip-hop group. Three years later, Rolling Stone copied the gimmick, featuring the members of boy band 'N Sync individually on five different covers. If Spin's influence in rock journalism was ever in question, this event provides irrefutable proof

Title: Junkyard Gods
Label: Sonar Kollektiv
Catalog#: SK182CD
Format: CD, Album
Country: Japan
Released: 28 Mar 2008
Genre: Electronic, Funk / Soul, Jazz
Style: Future Jazz, Downtempo
The world of music is constantly moving forward and taking new directions. There are always artists and musicians that strive to innovate and to give a new breath of life to any form. Berlin’s Sonar Kollektiv understand this well and, with the creation of their new Jazz Club collection, the label founded by JAZZANOVA pushes things forward again to present artists with this spirit in mind. Thanks to CHRISTIAN PROMMER’S DRUMLESSON (SK162CD/jazz club), and his beautiful Jazz covers of Techno classics such as DERRICK MAY’s Strings of Life (SK137), Sonar Kollektiv bridged the gap between two worlds that seem so far away from each other. With the release of their recent Neujazz compilation (SK174CD/jazz club), Sonar Kollektiv went one step further showcasing new artists who manage to bring jazz music onto the club scene, rocking capacity audiences and winning fans all over the world in the process. On this occasion Sonar Kollektiv introduced the newest member of their family; TWO BANKS OF FOUR. Their song Queen of Crows is fuelled with Soul and has a very special electronic touch to it. It was clear that TWO BANKS OF FOUR would be the perfect addition to the collective.

Quasimode is a 4 piece Jazz band based in Tokyo, Japan and was formed in 2002. Their sound is based on authentic jazz rhythms from the 60's and 70's. With a mixed club and Latin feel they deliver all their music live and have gained a strong support in their native Japan. Last year Raw Fusion released two killer 12'' singles (both included on this album) which got massive radio & club play from the cream of the nu jazz fraternity. The Spiritual South mix in particular of ''Ipe Amarelo'' has been a permanent fixture in the record box of Gilles Peterson, Patrick Forge and Jazzanova and still sounds fresh on each and every play winning new fans the world over. It's hoped that this debut European release will be worthy introduction to music lovers everywhere.

Highway 61 Revisited is Bob Dylan's sixth studio album, released in 1965 by Columbia Records. It is Dylan's first album to be recorded entirely with a full rock band, after he experimented with the approach on half of Bringing It All Back Home. It is commonly tagged as documenting the "angry young man" period in Dylan's career, in-between the playfulness of its surrounding albums; many of the songs on Highway 61 are of an accusatory nature and feature rough, loud takes.
Featuring hits and concert staples such as "Like a Rolling Stone", "Desolation Row", and "Ballad of a Thin Man", it is also generally considered to be among the artist's best and most influential efforts. Dylan himself commented, "I'm not gonna be able to make a record better than that one... Highway 61 is just too good. There's a lot of stuff on there that I would listen to!"
The album peaked at #3 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart and #4 in the UK, while "Like a Rolling Stone" reached #2 on the US Pop Singles chart and #4 in the UK, also receiving the accolade of being placed #1 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The album itself was ranked #4 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Soul Investigators for their third record, Keep Reachin’ Up, they back NYC native Nicole Willis, a soul singer with a bright yet pale voice whose past credits include work with Curtis Mayfield and the Brand New Heavies, as well as a brief stint with dance floor mavens Dee-Lite. Keep Reachin’ Up happens to be Willis’s third full-length as well, and her first to fall under the banner of the retro soul movement spearheaded by the likes of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Amy Winehouse, and the Quantic Soul Orchestra. Willis and the Soul Investigators (along with multi-instrumentalist Jimi Tenor, who happens to be Willis’s husband) favor the echo and throb of the classic Motown sound, most notably on the urgent “If This Ain’t Love (Don’t Know What Is)”, with its constantly snapping snare drum, and “My Four Leaf Clover”, which parades along with the bounce and grandeur of the Supremes. Like Jones’s album Naturally, Keep Reachin’ Up sounds like it could have been recovered from a long-lost reel of studio tape from some now-defunct studio in the American South.

They specialize in covering popular albums in a reggae and dub style and have released two cover albums to date. The first, released in 2003, was an interpretation of Pink Floyd's classic The Dark Side of the Moon entitled Dub Side of the Moon and the second was 2006's Radiodread, a song-by-song cover of Radiohead's OK Computer.
Early in 2008 they announced that they will be releasing a new EP of original material.

Nostalgia 77's "One Offs, Remixes and B-Sides" is Benedic
Lamdin's 9th full length release on Tru Thoughts -
testament to his acute and original musical talent and
prolific and inspired creativity. Having already garnered
critical acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson (Radio
1) and the Guardian, he continues to raise his game.
This generous double CD is a diverse collection of rare
gems, complete with an impressive roll-call of
collaborators, which displays Lamdin's flair as producer,
remixer, composer and more. Sit back for the perfect
collision - between a host of instrumental pieces and a
dazzling array of songs that show Lamdin's more recent
move towards lyrical work - drawing on the stellar
performances of eminent vocalists including Corinne Bailey
Rae, Bajka and new Tru Thoughts signing Lizzy Parks.
Disc 1 opens with the mesmeric "Quiet Dawn" (Examples of
Twelves Remix) featuring sultry vocals from Beth Rowley.
The Nostalgia 77 remix of "Knee Deep" by TM Juke is
another atmospheric proposition, but on the other end of
the mood spectrum, cranking up a palpable tension with
layer upon layer of creaky strings. All is then blown away
on the breeze that is the exclusive instrumental version
of Nostalgia 77's Little Steps, which floats along next to
carry you up to that familiar Nostalgia 77 plain somewhere
above the clouds. Wake up though, for Dirty Diggers
featuring Nostalgia 77 with "So Grown Up", Nostalgia
composition and Diggers lyrics making a great couple, each
adding a new depth to the other.
Continuing to demonstrate the strength in depth among the
talent on the Tru Thoughts roster, "Solomon" by Natural
Self (Nostalgia 77 Remix) takes another refreshing course.
This instrumental is catchy, cheeky, idiosyncratic and irresistible.
The Nostalgia 77 remix of Kinny & Horne's "Forgetting to
Remember" sports a gravelly beat that crunches through the
verse like sturdy steps on a stately drivewaya spine-
tingling stuff. Kinny's jazzy and exquisite vocal and the
deep double bass from Rian Vosloo add to the dazzling
effect of this killer song that is left enhanced but
mercifully intact by the remix from Nostalgia 77.
The previously unreleased Nostalgia 77 remix of "In
Between The Lines" by Bonobo boasts sizzling drums from
Graham Fox, Bajka's bluesy vocals and the bassiest of sax
lines. This gritty, stomping tone and a soaring counter-
melody, with vocal harmonies towards the tail end of the
track, give rich, intertwining layers. Next, The New
Mastersounds' "Your Love is Mine" featuring Corinne
Bailey-Rae (Nostalgia 77 Remix). The vocal from Bailey-Rae
is characteristically lush and, amid touches of Funk &
Jazz innovation, subtly underpinned by the earthiness of
an old time Jazz Standard.
Elizabeth Shepherd's (Do Right Music) "Reversed"
(Nostalgia 77 Remix) adds yet another twist to the tale.
Wildflower, by Nostalgia 77 featuring a stunning vocal
performance from Lizzy Parks, appeared previously as the B
side to the next track here, a remix of "Quiet Dawn",
provided this time by Bonobo. The countless positive
reactions to this as a single were only to be expected
from the joining of such maestros.
The exclusive Grant Phabao remix of Nostalgia 77's take on
"Seven Nation Army" featuring the mighty vocals of Alice
Russell is given a reggae makeover yet retains its
irresistible appeal to those bluesy jazz enthusiasts who
went wild for this cover version "first" time around.
Disc 2 of this set visits a selection of the finest
Nostalgia 77 and Octet material, including live recordings
of "The Hope Suite" and the previously unreleased
"Nativeland".
"The Moon" by Nostalgia 77 featuring Capstone and Lizzy
Parks opens with dreamy keys from Capstone (Wah Wah 45s,
Ninja Tune) that conjure up evocative harmonies with the
jazzy vocals of new Tru Thoughts signing Lizzy Parks. The
bass simmering just under the surface all the way through
this track gives it a smoky haze that pays homage to the
Jazz classics of years gone by.
"The Grass Harp" by Nostalgia 77 Octet is another
previously unreleased number and The Octet's "Impossible
Equation" receives its first and well-deserved CD release,
having featured previously on a vinyl only. CD2 also
boasts beautiful instrumental versions of Nostalgia 77's
"Eastwind" and "Stop To Make A Change".

Timo Maas - Pictures (2005)
192kbps-MP3
Genre - Dance/Electronic
Pictures is the second artist album from Timo Maas; his debut Loud was a combination of techno and big beat with enough drunken party tunes to give Fatboy Slim a run for his money. Here though, Maas is trying for something a bit different with more emphasis on song structure and arrangements than big hooks. Placebo’s Brian Molko lends vocals to the title track and lead single, "First Day"--the former a deadpan delivery over a very tense, new wave tune made dancey, the latter a catchy radio-friendly piece more akin to "Shifter" from the first album but without the funk.
One of the best things about Pictures is that it gets better and better as the album progresses. The aforementioned tunes are good but not special when compared to the spooky and sonically masterful "High Drama" featuring Neneh Cherry or the progressive epic "4 UR Ears" with long-time collaborator Kelis. Maas’ confidence for composing clever, melodic lines that weave in and out of each other has grown immeasurably for this second album (demonstrated perfectly by "Devil Feel", another indie-dance crossover more in-line with the Chemical Brothers) but the orchestration of synths gives it an edge and more importantly a unique, definitive sound for Maas.
