We have no respect for the results of poor management as well as the poor quality of automobiles you've produced. They have ended up in the shop far too many times. I know this by personal experience.

Chrysler, now Fiat, has also failed as a respected American Automobile Company. However, I don't hold any bad feelings towards them. I simply don't choose to buy them or respect the company and what they have ended up equating to.

CONTEXT / BACKGROUND:
An aluminum engine block offers a substantial weight savings to a vehicle, making it an attractive option for automakers looking for ways to reduce curb weight, and in turn, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. However, most aluminum engines require heavy cast iron liners because of aluminum’s low wear resistance, somewhat offsetting the block’s initial leaner weight.
A Ford-patented thermal spray coating process for cylinder bores replaces these heavy liners with a low-friction, wear-resistant coating that makes the engine lighter and more efficient. This technology has the potential to reduce vehicle weight, increase fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, which are all key elements of Ford’s plan to deliver more sustainable solutions that can be applied to millions of cars and trucks in the near term.

The Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation’s 36-year-old National Inventor of the Year Award program recognizes individuals that epitomize American traditions of technological leadership, and increases public awareness of current inventors and how they benefit the nation’s economy and our quality of life.
The 2009 Inventor of the Year award goes to Ford and Flame-Spray Industries for the collaborative development of the spray apparatus for use with Ford’s patented production-ready Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (PTWA) thermal spray coating process for aluminum engine blocks.
This accomplishment puts Ford and Flame-Spray Industries in elite company with medical and pharmaceutical powerhouses as well as agricultural and chemical standouts, among others. Past Inventors of the Year, for example, include Dr. Raymond Damadian of Fonar Corporation for the development of Upright MRI technology and Dr. Ihor Lys of Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions for his development of a more efficient LED lighting system.
The team of inventors being honored at the National Inventor of the Year Award ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 28 is Ford retiree James Baughman and Dr. David Cook, Keith Kowalsky and Daniel Marantz of supplier Flame-Spray Industries. One day, when I was growing up, a phone box rang as a friend of mine walked past. I didn't answer it, even then all too aware of the potential mad bombers, kidnappers, ghosts or demons on the other end. The things that whisper, the ghosts that Guglielmo Marconi was too terrified to speak to according to the 2000AD about the telephone to speak to the dead he developed.

I was that sort of kid.

My friend on the other hand picked it up and had a very pleasant chat with a lady at BT who was testing the line. Years later I work on a horror podcast and he's a subsistence engineer and I STILL don't answer ringing phone boxes.

Copper alloy, Middle Kingdom (XII Dynasty)
H. 46.5 cm.

Bust and head hollow-cast together, thick-walled bronze upwards of 1 cm. A recessed thick ring section extending 3.5-4.5 cm below enabled insetting into lower body. The arms, now missing, were cast separately and fixed by means of tangs slotted into longitudinal grooves inset from the shoulders down. The right one broken off, remains still in place.

A recessed rim around the head holds in place the royal headcloth, cast separately by the lost wax process and worked in the cold.

Eyes inlaid, see Seneb-su-ma, cat. no. 34 (for the left eye the rock crystal cornea inset and the pupil underneath missing), with the difference that for the right eye the pupil would appear to be indicated here by a painted black dot [1]. The temples originally inlaid with silver or electrum strips; the right one still in place, its upper half bent outwards. Right nipple still extant, left missing. At lower right of navel a silver rivet-like protuberance and straight above it under the breast a round hole for another rivet, a large protruding silver rivet on the left side of the back halfway between shoulder-blade and waist and on the right remains of a cavity for receiving an identical nail; these surely served to fix a sheet of silver [2] over the bust.

Condition: the head and neck and the upper bust with large fissures, three below the left breast attest the difficulty of casting such a mass of metal at such an early stage of a new technological development.

The circlet is missing that would have hidden the join between the head and the royal headcloth, deeply fissured in places, the lower right lappet broken off and reattached, the lower left one missing. The uraeus cast separately and inlaid with gold; its right cheek with a gold rectangle, the right eye of an indeterminate substance (garnet?) inset in gold; the left eye and cheek inlay missing; the dilated hood below the head once with seven gold inlays, two of quarter moon shape, serrated on the curving edge, still in place.

Great King of the 12th Dynasty, Amenemhat III was responsible for transforming the swamps of the Faiyum into rich cultures.
He built a first pyramid at Dahshur, and then a pyramid at Hawara accompanied by a vast funerary temple. The present group
and all the other pieces belonging to it possibly come from this funerary ensemble, maybe buried in antiquity during the Hyksos period [3].

We are told [4] that from early times royal statues were placed in the temples of the gods. In certain texts the king appears as the central figure and the population's well-being depends on its loyal attitude towards him. Venerating Amenemhat III included a spiritual side as he was the high priest, the only human in contact with the gods [5].

The alleged find-spot would be in keeping since, during the Middle Kingdom, the Pharaoh's protection and patronage was sought for the after life as much as for actual life. Thus the setting for sculptures could be a temple or mortuary temple celebrating the king's cult, but palace or tomb were also possible. It was necessary to be buried close to the royal tomb, which explains the enormous cemetery complexes [6] .

This bust is what remains of what was surely the central figure of the whole group, his consort on his left. The author is unsure as to whether he would have been seated or standing and what the rest of his body would have been made of. If wood, probably acacia since it would have been covered with a sheet of precious metal - gold, silver or electrum. The standing figure of the King [7] from the same group may have been added to it towards the end of his life or slightly thereafter, since "his sunken cheeks and other characteristics represent the traits of an ageing personality". The universal image of an absolute monarch, in appearance untouchable, with his distant dignity, "rarely in Egyptian art has a king been represented so directly and frankly, so revealing in his deep psychology, his personality so little disguised" [8]. He epitomizes the new style of the end of his dynasty with his contained expression of interior life. To look at him is to admire him, he is the greatest of monarchs for though he will suffer no contradiction his presence is promise of protection and well-being in this world and the next.

I had been shooting on the beach for several hours while watching my daughter and her friend play - everybody saw this big old longhair and his massive black camera.

I think she wanted to see if the camera would focus upon her form. She walked down the sidewalk next to the beach beyond me, then down to the water, and then turned, walking slowly towards me - giving me her coolest walk. Getting close, she gave no reaction to the loud slapping of my Canon's shutter as I fired off about 20 shots. Once past, she stopped and stood next to me.

The Damned III
Detroit 2010

On October 28-30 2010 in Detroit comes an extraordinary assemblage of 130 artists from across this world to display their most introspective creations at DAMNED III – An Exhibition of Enlightened Darkness. From the infamous, which include renowned actors Leonard Nimoy and the late Marcel Marceau, to the freshest of local and international talent, this prodigious congregation will allow us a glimpse within the diverse shadows of id and ego…of overall mind and encompassing soul guaranteed to intrigue, disturb, inspire or repulse. Rising from within the ashes of the historic institution of Devil’s Night, this is not Halloween-themed art but an immersion within the immeasurable realms of consciousness through an elegant ambiance of ethereal soundscapes and art-inspired cirque/butoh-inspired performances.

DAMNED IIIThen, on Devil’s Night (October 30), DAMNED will transform into a sensuous celebration beginning with an intimate six-course presentation style dinner followed by a formal masquerade ball within the milieu of exotic rhythms of Sugar Hiccup, a menagerie of festive performers and, of course, the art.

Other treats include a VIP Preview with Artist Reception, on-site tapas chef, formal absinthe tasting by Lucid Absinthe (all Thursday 7-9pm only), a harem room-inspired VIP mezzanine overlooking the gallery, our Devil Girl hostesses, a gallery store to purchase art and more to come.

Impossibly beautiful Australian native tropical parrots! The colours are absolutely stunning!
There seems to be two spellings of this bird: eclectus and electus
I first thought these electus parrots were soft toys! They were perfectly used to people, only metres away.

The electus parrot is most unusual for having such differential colour schemes between male and female.

ElectusParrots are boldly colored birds.
The male is bright green with blue and red patches,
and the female is crimson with a blue belly. Their feet are very unusual;
the two outer toes of the foot point backward and the two inner toes point forward.
This gives the parrot an extremely powerful grasp so it can manipulate objects close to its bill.
These birds are tree dwellers and live around lowland in tropical areas.

ElectusParrots are strong fliers and fly high above the forest canopy.
In the day time they fly in pairs or small parties in search of fruits, nuts, nectar and leaf buds. In the evening they engage in display flights before they gather in groups of about 80 birds to roost for the night.

Scientific name: Eclectus roratus macgillivrayi (Gk. eklektikos = select, pick out, L. rorare = bedewed, macgillivrayi = after the ornithologist who discovered the species in Queensland)

Eclectus roratus macgillivrayi is the largest of twelve subspecies of eclectus parrot. Plumage between the sexes is markedly different, even in juveniles. Males are predominantly emerald green, with scarlet red on the sides of the abdomen extending across the underwing, and dusky feathers on the remainder of the underwing. The upper wing is emerald green with blue outer feathers. The tail is emerald green on the upper side, fading to light blue with a white tip, and on the underside the tail is grey-black with a yellow tip. The lower beak is black, and the upper beak is orange fading to yellow at the tip. The eye is orange-red in colour with a grey eye-ring. Females have a scarlet-red head and neck, with a darker red tail and back. The upper side of the wings are dark red on the inside half and blue on the outer half. Under the wing is dusky with a vivid purple-blue band that continues under the body and around the back of the neck. A purple-blue ring surrounds the yellow eye, and the upper and lower beak is black. Both sexes have a short, square tail.
Habitat and distribution: Eclectus roratus macgillivrayi is endemic to Queensland (only lives in Queensland) and is the only subspecies on mainland Australia, with one other subspecies, E. r. polychloros, found in the Torres Strait islands. All other subspecies are located in Indonesia, New Guinea, and several Pacific islands. The eclectus parrot is found in one region in Queensland, the Iron and McIlwraith ranges of eastern Cape York Peninsula. They mainly inhabit the interior and edges of lowland rainforest; however they can also be found in the higher rainforest regions.

Diet: The diet consists of fruit, nuts, seeds, flowers and nectar, obtained from the tree canopy.

A romantic action-adventure epic set in Australia prior to World War II that centers on an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) who inherits a large ranch. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle drover (Hugh Jackman) to protect her ranch. Together they experience four life-altering years, a love affair and the bombing of Darwin during World War II.

Watching the early reels of Australia, there's certainly no doubt who's in charge: this could only be a film by Baz Luhrmann, that wacky purveyor of all things over-the-top. In this old-fashioned, 165-minute hymn to his native continent, Luhrmann travels back to the late 1930s/early '40s, for a scenario that would not have been out of place at MGM in that era. Straightlaced Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) journeys Down Under and is put under the protection of--crikey--a rugged cattle driver known only as the Drover (Hugh Jackman). When the two are forced to team up (along with a motley crew of misfits) to take a herd of cattle through the hostile landscape, their way is challenged by the dastardly plans of the local beef baron (Bryan Brown) and his elaborately evil lieutenant (David Wenham). At some point you realize that this film's main commodity is not cattle, but corn: Luhrmann piles on the melodrama and the old-school climaxes with his usual frantic glee. Employing "When You Wish Upon a Star" and the Japanese air force to make his case is not beyond Luhrmann, and he reaches big here. Those with a taste for un-ironic silliness might just go for this stuff, but even fans of the Baz will have their patience tested by the broad comedy and the absence of discernable chemistry between Kidman and Jackman. Australia does manage to skewer the culture's prejudices against the Aboriginal people, but in this context such a victory comes across as rather tinny. --Robert Horton

I wasn't going to get an engagement ring because I'm not really a diamond ring person (I hear the collective gasps going around...) but we both really liked this ring when we saw it! Also we thought the pearls would be a nice touch for our beach wedding :)

Like an ancient treasure unearthed, this beautiful ring has an exotic, yet primative feel to it! The center stone is a large pink ruby with an organic look. It has wonderful flashing due to the crystaline inclusions throughout. Two 3mm peridots kiss the ruby on either side.

The 14k gold band has been given a hammered texture. The band and the settings, have a subtle satin finish.

We tend to think of stone as being dead and grey, well take a closer look next time you see an old stone bridge or a bench or an old stone built home. Often the surface is filled with life, a multi-coloured universe of lichen and microscopic plant life. I found some beautiful stonework at Gelli Aur Park near Llandielo in Carmarthenshire, Wales, this weekend and took some close-ups which came up really well. I've been thinking about trying to paint something like this for some time and the photo's I got made my mind up and I decided to give it a go. I had great fun creating this painting and will probably try a few more stone art pictures. I could probably adjust the technique a little and create paintings of the Cosmos in the same way. The painting looks sharper when viewed in the lightbox.

The engagement ring is actually my 3rd. Paul proposed with a coke can ring, then he produced my Nan's (great grandmother) eternity ring, then finally I chose the one pictured here.

The wedding rings were customed made by the guy who performed our handfasting. Paul didn't actually try on his ring until the ceremony and it was a tense couple of seconds whilst we waited to see if it fitted, thankfully it did.

The Eternity ring I found online and loved as my "shiny thing" after Clara was born. I really wanted a 4 stone one with 2 diamonds and 2 pink sapphires to represent me, Paul and the two girls but this was the nearest we could find. So we said the 3rd pink sapphire represents the cat lol.

"Solid Gold" is what we had before MTV. It was a syndicated program where two pop stars would sing the hit sof that week. The "Solid Gold Dancers" would then interpret the song through dance.
