Surgical Anatomy and Technique: A Pocket Manual, consistently places in the top 10 bestsellers for Springer. The third edition will ensure its continued place on the list. The authors know exactly what makes this book popular: expansive scope; concise descriptions of anatomy and technique; illustrations on nearly every page; and its compact, portable size. The challenge, then, is in the very careful selection of topics and the need to be restrained in spite of the many surgical innovations that beg to be included but that have not yet stood the test of time. Toward that end, the third edition of Surgical Anatomy and Technique includes a limited amount of new material: 3 vascular procedures (abdominal aortic aneurysm, femoropopliteal bypass, and carotid endarterectomy) and 2 gynecologic procedures commonly performed by general surgeons (hysterectomy and oopherectomy). In addition, all of the existing chapters will be updated to reflect current surgical approaches and instrumentation. Third-year medical students, surgical residents and practicing surgeons will find this handbook to be one of their most-frequently-used resources.

On October 28-30 2010 in Detroit comes an extraordinary assemblage of 130 artists from across this world to display their most introspective creations at DAMNED III – An Exhibition of Enlightened Darkness. From the infamous, which include renowned actors Leonard Nimoy and the late Marcel Marceau, to the freshest of local and international talent, this prodigious congregation will allow us a glimpse within the diverse shadows of id and ego…of overall mind and encompassing soul guaranteed to intrigue, disturb, inspire or repulse. Rising from within the ashes of the historic institution of Devil’s Night, this is not Halloween-themed art but an immersion within the immeasurable realms of consciousness through an elegant ambiance of ethereal soundscapes and art-inspired cirque/butoh-inspired performances.

DAMNED IIIThen, on Devil’s Night (October 30), DAMNED will transform into a sensuous celebration beginning with an intimate six-course presentation style dinner followed by a formal masquerade ball within the milieu of exotic rhythms of Sugar Hiccup, a menagerie of festive performers and, of course, the art.

Other treats include a VIP Preview with Artist Reception, on-site tapas chef, formal absinthe tasting by Lucid Absinthe (all Thursday 7-9pm only), a harem room-inspired VIP mezzanine overlooking the gallery, our Devil Girl hostesses, a gallery store to purchase art and more to come.

DAMNED RingSPECIAL GIVEAWAY: On all three nights of DAMNED III, our wonderful Devil Girls will be selling raffle tickets to win a very special prize: The Detroit Deconstruction Skull Ring© created by Atelier Gothique. This ring, retailing at $980 US, is finely crafted from 316l surgical stainless steel custom alloy with black 3D reinforced ceramic inlay. The winning ticket will be randomly chosen on stage at 11pm on Saturday October 30th during the Masquerade Ball (winner need not be present to win). All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to our favorite local charity Burners Without Borders to help feed and clothe those in need on our city streets.
