Soccer Training:Backyard Soccer Drills "Backyard Soccer Drills" was filmed in suburban New York with a small group of five kids and one coach/parent. Continuing with the traditon of the Youth Sports Club and VideosForCoaches.com , nationally known youth coach and video producer Marty Schupak, has put together one of the most creative sports instrucitonal videos to date. The DVD shows some of the most fundamental soccer drills as well as some advanced skill drills. Using limited space and being creative using areas around one's house such as a deck, trees and even a driveway, this valuable tool covers many aspects of the game of soccer. The DVD is appropriate for ages 7-18. PLEASE NOTE THAT "BACKYARD SOCCER DRILLS" IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY DVD WITH A MENU AND CHAPTERS. (17) The little kids can play too -- on the sidelines at Broad Acres Elementary School We started talking with the PTA President at Broad Acres (an elementary school with an immigrant population of 95%+) right at the end of the previous school year about starting a soccer program in the Fall 2002 season. There were hundreds of details to work out (registration of players, recruitment of coaches, getting uniforms and equipment together, etc.) MSI decided if we were going to do it, there weren't going to be any short cuts -- they'd get new MSI uniforms and equipment, lined fields, goals, etc. It took weeks, but we were ready to go by early October. We met with the parents and players on October 3rd to explain the program and distribute uniforms, and we lined the fields on October 5th. Then .... the DC Sniper and the most frustrating two weeks of our lives as we had to shut the program (and all the rest of MSI's 1000+ games a week) down. But we were finally clear to go on October 26th, and the kids had a great time. soccer boys Keepaway, aka Kill the Photographer Lady. The Age of Odin Gideon Dixon was a good solider but bad at everything else. Now the British Army doesn't want him any more. So when he hears about the Valhalla Project it seems like a dream come true. They're recruiting from service personnel for execellent pay with no questions asked to take part in unspecified combat operations. The last thing Gideon expects is to finding himself fighting alongside the gods of the ancient Norse pantheon. The world is in the grip of one of the worst winters it has ever known, and Ragnarok-the fabled final conflict of the Sagas-is looming. (17) Jacket. It's scary what lurks in your loft! This hasn't been worn since about 1985 and has been up in the attic since the late 1980s (apart from Rockers Reunion shows). The painted on "satatements" include "This Greaser is Built in Britain OK", "Who Needs Japan", "Who Me Officer?", "Make War Not Peace" "Go to Hell" and perhaps the most non pc of all a painted over swazticker on one arm (there uset to be one on a badge too), but to me this jacket is my youth and is worth more than any Norton Commando or Triumph Boneville. The Spear named Gar, when thrown would always return. Through ritual self-sacrifice, Odin discovered the Runes while hanging from the Yggdrasill, or world Tree. A patron of warriors, he was skilled in magic and a master of primal forces. Known as the One-Eyed God, Odin sacrificed his eye to gain wisdom from the fountain of Mimir. His most commonly noted familiars were wolves and ravens, the Germanic beasts of battle. This beautiful reproduction statue of Odin sitting on his horse, leading his warriors into battle is marvelously detailed, and is finished with metallic bronze paint to give it the look and shine of metal. Made of cold cast resin, it measures 10 inches tall, 9 inches wide and 5 1/2 inches deep. This statue looks great on desks, end tables, recessed wall shelves and bookshelves. This statue makes a great gift for family and friends. Denver Park Fall Colors #2 Denver Park Fall Colors #2 Despite having quite a nice Fall here in Colorado, I was unable to get decent images when the colors where at their best. With kids and being busy I was not able to scout locations and then go back when the colors and light were good. So I though I was going to end up with nothing I really liked and took a few macro leaf shots. However, in the end I did get two photos that I quite liked. Both at local parks when taking the kids out to play and both in what would normally be considered sub-optimal lighting. However the clouds and sun angles happened to be favorable and I think I got at least close to decent light. This is the second I took. I was really not expecting to take anything decent, but had my camera in case the boys did something or just on the of chance…...well you never know. Through the mass of playground equipment, trees, power lines and all the other clutter I spotted these two trees partially backlit by the sun with uncluttered mountains in the background. I had to wait about 20 minutes for the clouds to form a decent and complementary shape.. (7) DSC7410 Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-8/R1 Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center, Chantilly, Va., October 29, 2009. According to the museum's website: Nicknamed the Wurger (Butcher Bird), the Fw 190 entered service in 1941 and flew throughout World War II on all fronts. It was the only German single-seat fighter powered by a radial engine and the only fighter of the war with electrically operated landing gear and flaps. Some served as fighter-bombers with ground attack units, but the Fw 190 is best known for defending against Allied daylight bombing attacks. This Fw 190 F-8 was originally manufactured as an Fw 190 A-7 fighter. During 1944 it was remanufactured as a fighter-bomber and issued to ground attack unit SG 2. After Germany's surrender it was shipped to Freeman Field, Indiana, then transferred to the Smithsonian in 1949. Its 1980-83 restoration revealed a succession of color schemes. It now appears as it did while serving with SG 2 in 1944. The NASM Fw 190 left the production line in late 1943 as a Fw 190A-7 fighter. After suffering damage during operations it was repaired and remanufactured into an Fw 190F-8 fighter bomber. The conversion involved fitting a new wing and bomb racks to the original fuselage and adding armor plate around and beneath the cockpit. Reissued to the Luftwaffe, the aircraft flew on the Eastern Front during late 1944, probably on strength with SG 2 (Schlachtgeschwader or Ground Attack Wing 2) based in Hungary. The exact circumstances of its capture remain obscure but it was probably flown, during the war's final days, to an airfield in western Germany and handed over to Allied forces. After Germany's surrender on May 8, 1945, "Watson's Whizzer's" commanded by U. S. Army Air Forces (AAF) Col. Harold Watson, prepared this Focke-Wulf and a number of other German aircraft for shipment to the United States. In June, the NASM aircraft was loaded aboard the British aircraft carrier HMS Reaper in Cherbourg, France. The carrier sailed for Newark, New Jersey, where eager hands offloaded her war prizes and shipped them to Freeman Field, Indiana, a collection point for captured enemy aircraft. NASM's Fw 190F-8 received the foreign equipment code FE-117 and by September 1945, eleven other Fw 190s had joined it at Freeman Field. The end of war in Europe rendered further testing unnecessary and technicians at Freeman Field remanufactured FE-117 during 1946 and immediately put the airplane in storage. Unlike many captured German jet aircraft, FE-117 never flew in the United States. By 1949, the Air Force had transferred it to the Smithsonian Institution, joining the collection of other military aircraft in storage at Park Ridge, Illinois. NASM's Fw 190 fortunately escaped the scrap pile when war in Korea forced the Park Ridge facility to close. The airplane arrived at Suitland, Maryland, sometime during the 1950s and Smithsonian personnel placed it in outdoor storage. Restoration began in 1980 when specialists began sanding through layers of postwar paint applied in the U. S. to uncover the original German Luftwaffe paint and markings. The sanding process exposed something of the rich history of this artifact. It flew first as a Fw 190A-7 fighter but Focke-Wulf later rebuilt it as a F-8 ground-attack fighter-bomber. The aircraft wore at least three different camouflage schemes and a manufacturer's data plate found inside the fuselage indicated that its first Werk-Nummer (serial number) was 640 069. Infrared photographs of the aircraft's vertical stabilizer revealed that after rebuild, Focke-Wulf assigned the airframe a new Werk-Nummer 931 884. Restoration concluded in 1983. The final paint and markings applied were historically accurate for this specific airframe: SG 2 (Schlagtgeschwader or Ground-Attack Squadron 2) during October 1944. A method of Communication #97 I brought my Nikon so I could take a few photos during graduation because I thought I would be on a stand behind a video camera close to the stage, but that wasn't the case. Once we all got there I was kinda chosen by the ITV people that owned the equipment we were using to be the director for the night, so I watched the entire graduation from inside this trailer on numerous small TV screens switching from one to another to burn to a DVD to sell at a later date. The night went wonderfully, I cant believe the level of communication me and the 3 other camera operators reached through the night, it was awesome! Viewing from the trailer was difficult because I could only see what the camera operators pointed their camera to, so I had to trust them to make the decision as to what needed to be shown etc. The whole operation was a real learning experience for me and would not hesitate to do it again or operate a camera for one of them. This will also count for my "A Method of Communication" photo for the Scavenger Hunt 101 group. I think thus counts since TV is one of the best ways to communicate, so I hope others agree from my point of view. Item #97 A Method of Communication SH 97 Jonathan off-roading in WA Video of me driving our troopie through a creek in El Questro off the Gibb River Road in Western Australia. I thought Emma was taking photos, not videoing - hence my comments and silly face at the end :-) Our 75 series Toyota Landcruiser 4WD Troopcarrier was a great vehicle, we travelled around the whole of Australia in it sleeping in the pop-top conversion (which goes up - and down - in literally seconds), loads of room in our self-built cupboards and engel fridge for all our clothes, food and equipment. We used the winch plenty of times to pull people out of trouble, the bullbar protected us from the occasional road-hopping kangaroo, and we ran the fridge, our camera chargers and laptops off the solar panels we attached permanently to the roof. We sold it late in 2010 - hope the next owner has as much fun as we did! Pedometer Power: 67 Lessons for K-12 This text aims to help PE and health teachers, as well as administrators, to promote health-related fitness among their students. The book provides concrete evidence of pedometer effectiveness as a tool for motivating students. Based on the research of Dr Bob Pangrazi, a physical-education professor, researcher and author, the book presents information and ready-to-go activities to apply this technology. After outlining the importance and history of pedometer use and physical activity, Dr Pangrazi and his co-authors explain how to use pedometers to assess, teach and promote physical-activity principles and involvement. In addition, the book addresses specific challenges found in the school setting, such as minimizing breakage and loss, recording and storing data, fundraising and involving parents and classroom teachers. (17) Taiwan Bullet Train Taiwan (Bullet train) Business Trip November 2008 An old friend of my uncle fetched us from Tainan and brought us back to Taichung by car where we visited his factory and family. Taichung can be found in the middle area of Taiwan and was a good 2-3 hours by car to Tainan. On the way back, we rode the bullet train instead and it took us only 45 minutes (if I remember correctly)! This 2 year old bullet train system travels across all of Taiwan (north to south)! 100 minutes to get from Kaohsiung to Taipei (end to end). This is what we need in the Philippines. The distance would be equivalent to Metro Manila to Ilocos 400+ km in just 100 minutes! My uncle tells me that there was a time not long ago that we had a railway system, the first or the longest in Asia (I forget which one)! Although it wasn't a bullet train that travels 300km/h, it would still have been a big help to transfer cargo and people. No maintenance and the theft of the equipment including the rail tracks itself have caused the train system to the north to stop operating. The south train still runs but from what I'm told the people living on the tracks do all they can (including throwing trash and human waste at the train and passengers) to stop passengers from riding and thus lessen the trips AND the noise the train causes to their homes. In contrast, even though Taiwan has a new bullet train system, their old system is still running in good condition for passengers and cargo alike! This is really a sad case. We are regressing year after year, decade after decade. 45 years ago the exchange rate was NT 10 (Taiwan money) to PHP 1 (Philippine peso) and then 20 years ago it became NT 5 to PHP 1. Now (2008) it is the reverse: NT 1 is PHP 1.5! Not only is Taiwan and the other countries advancing, we are regressing at the same time! swim training stuff A friend sent me a gift card as a lovely surprise. I got some swim training equipment that I've been wanting (BadKitty not included) A training board, paddles, silicone ear plugs (for open water swimming, I use my iPod w/ waterproof case for the pool), pull float and a nice mesh bag for hauling it all around and putting wet things back into after I'm done. training equipment including In his day, Chic Gaylord was the "top gun" in the world of combat shooting, enjoying a reputation as one of the fastest and most accurate shooters around. Trango Squid The UnClip Stick The Squid a is a stick clip which does an elegant job of clipping out-of-reach bolts and allows you to UN-CLIP 'biners from those same bolts. If you don't believe in karma, the Squid can pay for itself in recovered draws in just a few days: for the karma conscious, the Squid will load up your karma bank faster than you can help a little old man across the street. "Fingers" at the end of the pivot-arm grab the gate and open it with a pull, letting you take the 'biner out of the bolt. If the draw is already hanging, a clever set of arms will hold your rope so you can clip it into the draw. Be careful though; in some states you could be busted for possession of burglary tools. The Squid will work with any standard paint pole. We recommend the 8' 2-piece Mr. LongArm ProPole. The pole needs to be stiff; the Squid will not work with a tent pole. Patented. Arbor-Plex has a weave of polyester and polyolefin fibers that make it incredibly light weight and and very mildew resistant. The 12-strand weave is naturally twist resistant, and signature green stripe assures that any twist in the line is easily detectable. Rope has a nubby feel when new, but it quickly "furs up" with wear and tear. It has excellent knot-holding ability, works well when wet, and is a widely used rigging line. 150' hank of rope weighs 10.2lbs (4.6kg).Rope Construction 12-strand (Class 1) Single BraidDiameter 1/2" (13.5mm)Weight 6.8 lbs/100ft (10.1kg/100m)Specific Gravity 1.18Average Breaking Strength 6,000lbs (2,700kg)Minimum Breaking Strength 5,400lbs (2,400kg)Elongation at 10% Average Breaking Strength 3%1/2" Arbor-Plex Data Sheet PDF (168K) Samson Rope Inspection, Retirement, Care & Usage Information PDF (2.1 MB) Related topics: home medical equipment sales national poultry equipment aviation equipment line equipment rental insurance used lab equipment camping equipment hire cape town car wash equipment australia |
