enterprise engineering

enterprise engineering

I have witnessed a trend in one large enterprise that I suspect may occur in many others.  This is trend revolves around how some people, enterprise engineers and chief architects, try explain SOA concepts to the common SOA practitioner.  This particular enterprise traditionally has been involved with developing some rather LARGE and CRITICAL enterprise architectures for its customers.  Now dont get me wrong they have done tremendous work, but now as they begin to develop a strategic approach for SOA that can be used on all of their projects there are some people who try to use extremely high-level and technical rhetoric to explain SOA concepts to the common practitioner.  Granted these are extremely bright people, but they seem to have difficulty reaching the masses.  They want to utilize traditional enterprise engineering speak to explain things to those responsible for executing, implementing, SOA on enterprise engineering      So I interviewed a few of those responsible SOA practitioners, and my fear was realized.  The information that I received was all of similar flavor, "Im confused", "What does that mean", "How do I use that artifact on my project", "These are too academic", or "I cant use this".  So I went a read some of the documents that mentioned as causing the most confusion, the widest divide, and I was able to see where these documents would be confusing to your average SOA practitioner.  For someone new to the SOA paradigm these documents could be overwhelming, and could seem like over kill.  The content in these document wasnt necessarily incorrect, actually was all quite good, but the manner in which was stated could have been simpler.  Those responsible implementing SOA need guidance that they could apply immediately and they need it in plain "English".  So I would encourage those people responsible for devising the SOA strategy for your organization to be cautious of how you present guidance to the practitioners, let alone the executive management staff.  I like to adhere to the KISS principle as much as possible, but thats just me.

 2005 Adobe Road Pinot Noir

Mission Codename: Days of wine and Porsches

Operative: Agent Red

Objective: Spend a day at the track with wine producer and Porsche racing legend Kevin Buckler to find why his wines, like the cars he races, are legendary

Mission Status: Accomplished!

Current Winery: Adobe Road

Wine Subject: 2005 Pinot Noir

Winemaker: Franc Dusac

SPECIAL Rolex 24 at Datyona, in Florida. The Wine Spies them the greatest success!

Wine Spies Tasting Profile:

Look – Beautifully shimmering red, reminding me of Porsche GT3 brake calipers, this wine has a hint of violet color at its heart, is clear at the edges, and has slow-moving legs that streak down the glass in groups of six (was this a planned homage to the Porsche GT3 3.6 liter flat 6 cylinder engine?)

Smell – Earthen cherry, gunpowder, salted rocks, dried violets, mildest forest floor, sweet oak and the slightest hint of dried salami. One of our agents even suggested that they detected the smell of fresh racing slicks, butunder chemical analysis we can assure you that this wine is 100% Pinot Noir

Feel – Slippery and mouthcoating, this wine has supple tannins that grip the cheeks and tongue

Taste – Dusky and smoky cherry with dark stone fruit, mild spice, cherry, Indian black tea and cranberry

Finish – Great great minerality and dryness and flavors that taper off slowly and â€Ümouth-watheringly’

Conclusion – Like Kevin’s racing career, this wine finishes in first place. It is a classic California Pinot with a refined and very balanced quality that I really love. While Porsche cars are seen extremely technical, Porsche racing as demonstrated by Kevin Buckler, is filled with passion and excitement. This fervor translates into rolex 24 wines, but rather rolex 24 seeming an overly technical or mechanical wine (as we have experienced from other producers), this is a wine of sophisticated but also subtle character.

Mission Report:

I love my missions to France. The wine, the climate and the food all seem to agree with me.

On a recent mission to the French village of Anjou in the Loire Valley (the region in France rolex 24 known for Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc wines), I was tipped off by a local asset that winery owner and racing legend Kevin Buckler was staying in a hotel neighboring my own.

He was in France for his annual appearance at the world famous auto race, 24 Hours of Le Mans. Kevin and his team drive the incredible Porsche GT3. Kevin is a driver, and he and his team have racked up wins at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona (2002) and the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans (2002), an overall win at rolex 24 Rolex 24 Hours of (2003), the title of Porsche World Cup Champion in 2002.

Kevin’s winery, Adobe Road, had been under light surveillance for a few months already and Central Command was preparing send an Agent to investigate – but I got my own once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet Kevin in his racing element, and Central Command approved my impromptu mission and I extended my stay in France.

I am enough of a Porsche fan to have my own sights set on a 2008 Cayman S. Since I had the brochure with me on my travels rolex 24 it as a prop, taking it with me to the hotel restaurant where Kevin and his team were having dinner. Having made friends with the MaĂŽtre â€ÜD earlier (I buttered him up with a bottle of Patrick Bodouin Anjou Villages Cabernet Franc ), I was seated next to their table.

I sat down and positioned the Cayman brochure so that it would be seen by Kevin or his crew. Then I ordered a bottle of rolex 24 wine and waited. They took the bait and one of the guys at the table leaned over and said to me, â€SHey, Buddy. That’s a nice car, but why not spring for a real Porsche and get a GT3?”

Now, I knew that the monster GT3 was their car, but I replied, â€SI leave that car to the professionals. It’s better suited to rolex 24 racetrack, if you ask me.”

That opened up a great conversation about Porsches and about wine that went late into the night. Kevin poetic about both and I enjoyed his passion on these two great subjects. As the evening was ending, Kevin’s rolex 24 chief invited me to visit pit row for a brief tour of their on-track operations. I jumped at the chance and enjoyed every second of it. At the end, of the tour, I asked if I could ride along during a check-ride… and was nearly laughed off the track.

Once the crew chief wiped the tears from his eyes, he became very serious. He quickly escorted me away from the pit row, handed me a few bottles of Adobe Road Pinot Noir, and pushed me toward the security exit. Oh, well. At least I tried. And, at least I walked away with an arm full of Kevin’s excellent Pinot Noir.

tom wilkinson

tom wilkinson

Ive never been a fan of titles that are simply someones name. It seems to me a real lack of creativity. That is the last criticism you will hear from me of Michael Clayton, which is easily the best film Ive seen yet this year. Written and directed by Tony Gilroy, Michael Clayton is a taut and insightful look at a man who is at frayed ends who struggles to redeem himself. This is an old subject for a film, but this film is so well written, tom wilkinson and shot that it makes the whole thing seem fresh.

George Clooney plays the title character, a lawyer who is forty-five years old, but has not made partner. Instead he is utilized to clean up other peoples messes. Im a janitor, we hear him say with disgust. He is also broke, after going in with his tom wilkinson brother on a bar that has gone belly up. Even after sellng all of the assets he still owes $75,000 to some folks who arent exactly lenient about late fees. Find a treasure map and start digging, hes told.

So Clooney isnt exactly in the best of moods when tom wilkinson has to rush off to Milwaukee. The senior litigating partner, played by Tom Wilkinson, has had a breakdown at a deposition and chased a plaintiff through lot wearing nothing but his socks. If this isnt enough of a problem, the case Wilkinson was working on is a three billion dollar class action suit against an agricultural conglomerate for manufacturing a weed killer that also people cancer. The companys general counsel, Tilda Swinton, is understandably disturbed and wants some answers. Clooney thinks its simply a matter of Wilkinson, a manic depressive, going off his meds, but after a while we learn that tom wilkinson is something more sinister afoot.

The plot of the film, which involves a hushed-up document that proves the companys guilt, is really a kind of Hitchcockian McGuffin, and isnt exactly a tom wilkinson mystery. Whats really going on here is the salvation of a human being. Clooney is excellent in showing us a man with many layers. He comes from a family of cops, and worked as a district attorney, now is a shadowy figure in a white-shoe law Just what happened? Hes divorced but has a good relationship with his son, and more problematic relationships with his brothers, one a cop and the other, as mentioned, a recovering drug addict who led him down the primrose path with a failed business opportunity. The firms senior partner, played Sidney Pollack, clearly values Clooneys ability to put out fires, but not enough to make him partner. tom wilkinson a lot more going on underneath the surface.

Gilroy, who is best known as the screenwriter of the Bourne films, knocks one of out of the park in his directorial debut. The film is lit mostly in blues and grays, with nary a ray of sunlight peeking through. Clooney is always in his uniform of a dark suit and tie, ready at a moments notice to do the firms bidding. Gilroy even gets a chance to flex his Bourne muscles with a cat and mouse car chase toward the end of the film, which is exceedingly well done.

Clooney, Wilkinson and Swinton are all terrific, and should all be in the hunt come Oscar time. Swinton, in tom wilkinson that could have been a standard villain, is given extra depth with scenes showing how terribly insecure she is, and how deeply over her head she gets. Wilkinson is particularly scintillating as a man who finds clarity in his madness. He gives a classic line reading when Clooney tells him that hes the senior partner of a top law firm. I am Shiva, the god of death, Wilkinson replies, in all seriousness.

trinidad vs jones

trinidad vs jones

mayweather_hatton.jpg

This Saturday, Ricky Hatton will face the best fighter in the world pound for pound, Floyd trinidad vs jones Jr., this is the biggest fight of Hattons life, he will be testing his skills against the best, and many think hes out of his league, and that his chances slim. At first thought of this match up, one must automatically choose Mayweather as the clear winner of this welterweight showdown, but better observation and deep consideration, Hatton has a pretty good chance. It is clear that Mayweather is the bigger man in this fight, he stands about 23 taller than Hatton, and also posses a huge 63 reach advantage, with the speed and agility of Mayweather, these advantages will definitely come into trinidad vs jones and it will truly give Hatton problems later in the fight as Mayweather never tends to tire in his fights, but&&.Hatton comes on strong throughout the entire bout, and comes on even stronger as the fight progresses.

and trinidad vs jones is how I think the fight will go down. (both fighters can win)

Hattons Chances: The one thing that needs to be noted, is that Hatton is not a fighter who controls the fight at a distance, hes an old fashion brawler that hits holds and tries to out-muscle trinidad vs jones in every way, he comes forward throwing bombs constantly, hes a tremendous pressure fighter who wears you down, he does not give you a chance to think or even breathe.

In this fight,

1) Hatton must do what he can to trap Mayweather, corner him, pound him, and bully him, becuase if Hatton lets Mayweather get into his rhythm of fighting his fight, It will be frustrating for Hatton as he tries to find the elusive Mayweather.

2) Hatton needs foot speed and angles to direct his vicious attack, using his trinidad vs jones to side technique (as hes shown on the series 24/7) to find the target because coming straight in with power punches will spell disaster for him, fighters who have stormed straight in towards Mayweather, usually find themselves missing punches, it wears them out, it saps their energy and it allows Mayweather to take control of the fight in the second half, Hatton must not miss, and it will be extremely tough to land a clean shot, but if he can, it will increase his chances of winning.

3) A phone booth fight is what Hatton wants, it will allow him to use his grappling technique (hit hold, and hit again), although this style is not fun to watch, it is how Hatton his fights, his short arms dont allow him to use an effective jab, he will fall short in this fight if he tries to establish a jab, Mayweather counters excellent when fighters throw a lazy jab, or try to stand in the middle of the ring and box, Mayweather is too sharp, and too quick.

4) Finally, Hatton must become an animal in there, show no fear, apply constant effective pressure, dont stand and wait, ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK is what will be the most effective for Hatton. Dont get lazy, and dont get frustrated (that also tires you out), stay calm and use lateral movement to land those steaming body shots, forget the head, its too much of hard target, hit the arms, the elbows, the body, and the chest&&.wear him down, beat him up, rough him up, KNOCK HIM OUT!! (a decision will be to hard to Hatton MUST knock Mayweather out early, I believe that if the fight looks close by the 7-8th rounds, itll go to trinidad vs jones who will take control later in the fight.

Mayweathers Chances: In this bout, Mayweather the more experienced fighter, hes the quicker more elusive boxer, hes everything that Hatton hasnt seen. Mayweather is an defensive genius who makes you and makes you pay, hes right there in front of you, and yet you cant hit him, you find yourself chasing him around and wearing yourself out in the process. When you finally get frustrated and you over commit yourself, hell switch into second gear and just make you look silly, hell hit you with a four hit combo before you even get your feet set to strike, this will be Hattons worse nightmare, if hes not careful.

In this fight,

1) Establish his jab, and use his foot speed to angle himself away from Hatton, Hatton likes to hit and hold, and when Hatton ties Mayweather up (which hell try to do often), Mayweather must return the technique, grab Hattons left hand, dont allow him to get off by hitting him, to the body and to the head, this will make Hatton think twice about holding, and hell turn to using pure aggression trinidad vs jones land his shots, therefore, opening up plenty of counter punches opportunities.

2) Land body shots, as often as he can, Mayweather is a decent body punchers, he used a stiff body shot to knock out veteran Sharmba Mitchell in their fight (2yrs ago). When a fighter has a money punch, that often means they are vulnerable to that same punch, Hatton is one of the best body punchers in the 140 & 147lbs division (Next to Miguel Cotto) so Mayweather must be cautious as to not get hit with them, and with all the grueling dieting and weight loss the Hatton has sustained throughout his training camp, that will give Mayweather a good chance to do great damage with his own body shots.

3) Hit Hatton, and hit him often. In his career, Hatton has been known as a Bleeder, a guy whos face tends to rip and swell when its been tagged with punches, and Mayweather is the sharpest counter punching boxer that Hatton has ever faced, Mayweather can hit Hatton enough to eventually cause severe swelling, or even deep harmful cuts that can end the fight.

4) Mayweather just needs to BOX, thats what he best, use the ring (as he always does) to control the bout, and he must not give the early rounds away, because Hatton will come on strong early (knowing the early rounds are his best chances of scoring a KO or TKO), and Mayweather must not give Hatton any chances to attack, stay on his toes, and sustain trinidad vs jones rhythm every minute of every round.

I hope fight ends up being what it should, the Classic Boxer against the Old Fashion Brawler&lets pray they play it out as we all envision it.

Personally, Id like to see Mayweather get beaten, bruised and battered, but I dont think itll happen&&&.Mayweather by Unanimous Decision

27 X 1 TYRES on 27 X 1 1/4 RIMS - Bike Forums

I wonder if anyone can help, I have 27 1 1/4 wheel rims.

At the moment the back tyre is a 27 1 1/4 and the front tyre is a 27 x 1 1/8.

I'd really like to invest in a pair of 27 x 1 tyres.

Not only would they look sleeker , they would (I presume) give me a bit more speed .

How would the handling of the bike, the comfort, and the speed be affected by these slimmer tyres?Any advice on whether this is possible?

Or would I need to buy new wheels AND tyres?Cheers.
Speed is affected by the:Size of the engine, (that=how fit you are)rolling resistance of the tires (how smooth and how pumped up the tires are)body position of the rider.

(back = flatter then faster)I have bought a lot of different tires for my bikes, I can say that the thinner the tires, the faster it feels.

I still seem to get the same places in around the same time. So, speed is one thing.

All things being equal, thinner tires should be less rolling resistance.

You'd also have to pump them up harder to get dresses soundtrack will go down.

Handling is kind of a push, it will be different, but better or worse I can't say.If in doubt, do what I do, buy them anyway and see how they feel.by the way.

Tires should fit, provided they're both ISO 630mm.

Have fun, you fast thing you.
Cheers! I will do just that!Wh sh (that's me on the new tyres!). I'd suggest buy just one to start and put it on the front.

Reason being, is the smaller tire will transmit a lot more road vibration to the hands.

It may be more than what you want to put up with.If it is, transfer it to the rear and slightly bigger on the front.

IF NOT, go ahead and get the second. Also, getting one will still give you an idea if you are faster.Keep in mind, that going smaller on the rear will also gear you down a bit and make pedaling easier.

It's only about 2%, but that's about 1/3 of a tooth equivalent on your top cog. That may make you THINK you are going faster.

A speedometer will tell the story there.OTOH, if your cadence is a bit slow, it may help put you in a slightly more efficient range.Let us know how it works out for you! 27 dresses soundtrack
I would not 27 dresses soundtrack too secure on turns with that big a disparity between tire and rim width.

I would bet that the time in your dealing with this question online, plus purchasing and then 27 dresses soundtrack the tires would result in much higher speed if put into riding instead!
I hardly consider 7MM difference a "big" disparity!

27" rims tend to be pretty skinny anyway.
Originally Posted by Bill Kapaun I hardly consider 7MM difference a "big" disparity!

Well, a true 27x1 1/4 rim is not very skinny, and 7mm is 20% smaller than the tire width for which the rim is designed.

Not only turns but impact protection will be compromised - as you indicated in reference to a smaller diameter with the 25mm tires.

The 25mm tires have less height by design and when put 27 dresses soundtrack a wide rim they will sit even lower.

I would recommend against going below 1 1/8 width, especially as many manufacturers push the lower limit of a given tire width so that their tires appear lighter than others of the "same" width.

Check Sheldon's page on tire/rim width. 27 dresses soundtrack 27 dresses soundtrack 27 dresses soundtrack I'm quite familiar with Sheldon's tire size chart and see absolutely no problem.People routinely 26x1.25" & 26x1.5" street tires on rims that came with 1.95-2.125" tires with no problem.

That's a bigger % change than 1-1/4" to 1"!

I don't think so.1.

If everything else equal, a wider tire will have less rolling resistance because it has 27 dresses soundtrack deform less at the contact patch on the bottom.2.

Everything else is never equal.

In case, you generally have to use more air pressure in a skinnier tire to keep from pinch flatting.

The greater air pressure will result in the 27 dresses soundtrack deforming less at the bottom and make the rolling resistance equal to the 27 dresses soundtrack tire.3.

Pumnping up tires ultra hard makes them feel faster doesn't necessarily make them faster.

They feel faster because they because they bounce around more over bumps.

Unfortunately, that bouncing uses energy that you have to provide that lifts you up vertically rather than horizontally down the road.

As Bill pointed out, it's in the compatibility range acceptable per Sheldon's tire chart, but I'd be uncomfortable thinner to 7/8 inch tires.I've got a bike that had the rims and tire combination the OP enquired about.Handled fine, I did have a few pinch flats but I'm 230.I've been converting that bike into a reliable commuting tank, with reliability gained at the expense of perfromance.

Accordingly, I've replaced the wheelset with 48 spoke tandem wheels, and have gone to 27 x 27 dresses soundtrack tires.

But I suspect the OP is much lighter than I, so 1 inch tires are less of a concern.
Interesting information about rolling resistance and contact patch:Continental did some testing a few years ago to address these very issues.

They tested ties from 18c-28c.

They used the same tires (thread count, compounds etc) at the same pressure under the same lab conditions and discovered that 23c was the fastest size.

It is actually a mixed calculation regarding the area of the contact patch and the amount of energy lost when a tire encounters an obstacle (the bending small things like 27 dresses soundtrack or imperfections in the road). The average size of a contact patch is about the size of a dime (this obviously varies with tire pressure and rider weight, but, like I said, it is an average).

It is a long, thin oliptical area a few cm in length.

They also concluded that tread patterns made absolutely no difference to traction.

There was no displacement of water under any conditions. Some useful information for you all. 27 dresses soundtrack
Now I'm really confused.

So, if I wanted 27 x 1" tyres, what rim size would I need?

I mean the tyres must be designed for a certain size rim.

I must admit I presumed that 27 x 1 1/4 rims were pretty standard and didn't realise that 27" rims went any smaller.

I suppose that in terms width (if you look at the tyres in terms of mm), I would be going from approximately 32mm to 25mm, which is only a 7mm difference.

Considering that my current tyres (looking at the wheel front on) seem to come over the rim slightly, surely thinner tyres would just be flatter against the rim?At the moment my back tyre is the thicker one (1 1/4) and my front one is the thinner (1 1/8).

Would it be worth swapping these round to get better speed?

To tell the truth the tyres are pretty damn old anyway, so I will need to replace them soon-ish.

Just need to know what my best option is. 27 dresses soundtrack

I mean the tyres must be designed for a certain size rim.

I doubt you'd perceive any speed gain/loss in swapping those tires.Since you have more weight on the rear, you probably get a better ride with the wider tire in the rear.A wider tire up front would give a little more protection against slipping on gravel or more protection against pinch flats against a chuck hole or curb.If you look at Sheldon's chart at the bottom of the page, you have a 27 dresses soundtrack window of tire widths acceptable for a given rim, so there 27 dresses soundtrack no mismatch problem with the 1 inch.Since your 27 dresses soundtrack I assume you likely are below 180 lbs, so pinch flats on 1 inch tires are not going to be a huge concern.Sounds for your straightline speed over comfort objective the 1 inch is the way to go.My option to go wider was dictated by my desire for reliability when commuting to work-the heavier tandem wheel increase reliability but adversly impact performance.

I've also gone to stronger steel drop bars replacing the lightweight French Atac aluminum bars that snapped when I hit a bump on the bike trail.http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire_sizing.html
"Now I'm really confused" That's a good sign - only narrow-minded people suffer no confusion.

It's a necessary transition between being uninformed and being truly knowledgable.OK, here's my perspective.

As you can see from the above three comments you don't dresses soundtrack something for nothing when it comes to tires (or anything else).

A narrower tire will be lighter and easier to get past the brakes to mount 27 dresses soundtrack dismount the wheel, will very likely take a higher pressure and will tend to perform better on turns (when matched with an appropriate rim).

Those are the only solid advantages.

You can't count on rolling resistance to be lower or for them to be faster on all but smooth roads, as noted above.

The disadvantages are more tendency toward flats, more difficulty in mounting and preventing tube 27 dresses soundtrack and ride."Considering that my current tyres (looking at the wheel front on) seem to come over the rim slightly, surely thinner tyres would just be flatter against the rim?"Actually, NO.

As you can tell from Sheldon's chart, how well a 27x1 works depends on interior rim width.

I would agree with his assesment, even though conservative.

27x1 1/4 can be up to 20mm in width (inside) and I would absolutely not put a 27x1 rim on one of those.

A narrow tire will spread out on a wider rim, and by design it already will have less height than a wider section tire, so you will have very little distance between your rim edge and the road surface.

In that scenario you not only are assured of more pinch flats but also possible impact damage to your rim. There is no way for you to accurately measure the effect of 27 dresses soundtrack 27x1, you just have to try it.

Given you preference for better speed/performance I would suggest an upgrade to a wheel/rim with an interior rim width of 15-16 mm.

That way you're in the center for both 1 1/8 and 1 inch tires.

I've found problems with the super narrow rims.

If your current rims measure more than 17mm inside I would recommend against using 27x1 at all.

Get a pair of 27 x 1 1/8 tires that will take 100lbs instead.

I found some very good kevlar tires of that size at Performance on sale for $9.99.

would have issues of dust inside of the lens not on the sensor, it the change in volume of the lens that cause dust to suck in..

But I have the 100-400 and I have no issues with it either...

How often do you change your lenses?do you change your lense with your camera facing up or down, or sideways?

There's no dust inside the 100-400, thankfully.

I think that might push me over

Facing down. With the camera off and the new lens ready to be mounted...I'm S careful.

Also, I don't switch it outside (even if I have to walk forever to find a room w/no wind)...

Now you know why that lens is called the dust pumper.Only solution is to get a sealed lens that does not zoom in and out like the dust pumper.

As far as I know, having only primes would help in that matter.

benny and the jets

benny and the jets

Hey Mystery Fans,

I am a brand new benny and the jets initiated by THE Technology Evangelist, Robert Sanzalone, at an S.C.C. session this morning. It is so exciting! Now I get a chance to share all the mystery jokes, quotes and anecdotes I have been collecting and always on the watch for. Today in the paper I saw that the search for treasure at the infamous Money Pit on Oak Island is about to be started again. Over two hundred years ago, two boys saw a depression in the grass on this tiny island off the of Mahone Bay NS and the events connected with that discovery make the Da Vinci Code look like a walk in the park!

The site is located just outside of the Badlands in South Dakota. It currently consists of a modular building and has been open to the public for less than three years. They have plans to eventually build a permanent visitor center there. Unfortunately, we did not know that if you schedule in advance, you can take a tour of the launch control facilities and one of the missile silos. Instead we spent our time talking to the ranger, watching a film, and collecting information.

cloverfield reviews

cloverfield reviews

Marauding meem, edge-of-the-seat thriller, hi-tech minimalism, monster-genre revival, Nokia commercial, whatever!

There has certainly been an advertising-boosted buzz about Cloverfield over the last couple of weeks. It isnt a cultural phenomenon (despite what JJ Abrams, producer extraordinaire seems to think), and it didnt feel like some drastic turning point in modern popular cinema, BUT Cloverfield succeeds as an immersive, organ-churning rollercoaster of a film starring, albeit in the periphery, what must surely be the best movie monster since Alien.

Yes.

That cool.

What is Cloverfield? An anxious, turbulent, down and dirty joyride in a stolen car. The definitive image of the film currently in the public mind is the beheaded Statue of Liberty. Like Independence Day, Cloverfield has its big symbolic moment of destruction. Unlike Independence Day, the film isnt a thoroughly vapid piece of high-gloss crap. After this decapitation, the filmmakers continue to up the ante in genuinely imaginative ways.

The premise is simple enough, home video footage more or less recording some kind of jarring attack on Manhattan and recovered after the fact. Authentically, like every home video youve ever made the narrating camera guy is mostly annoying but occasionally triumphant. But lets not even go there.

Forget character, plot, probing analysis. This is not Godfather, but it also sure as hell isnt Godzilla (Broderick, not Mothra). Perhaps Cloverfield owes some credit to lessons learnt from horribly disappointing American monster movies - with their lame attempts at tumescent patriotic meaning, diaorrhaea-thin plots, and Bambi-esque happy endings.

Ditching Western convention, this films punch is delivered by makers who cloverfield reviews what they set out to create - a textured, sensory shockwave, far more reminiscent of Japanese robot and monster anime than it is of, say, the Hulk or King Kong. The film isnt visceral in the manner of, for example, Saw, Silence of the Lambs, or even Pink Flamingoes. While it doesnt get under your skin, as such, it certainly gets into your nervous system.

Some kneejerk puppet-string douchebags are wound up about the parallels between the attack on New York in 2001 and parts of this movie. I can recognize cloverfield reviews easily that people are the kind of douchebags who call hot, skinny chips Freedom Fries and think that Allah is trying to steal Christmas, and you can too. Less ass-hatted people may say that Cloverfield really feels like a war zone, and I would disagree. It certainly is bombastic and experiential, cloverfield reviews Children of Men achieves that most drilling of sensations in a more believable way, in my opinion. Nonetheless, for unrelenting intensity and a welcomely jarring movie experience, Cloverfield gets big props.

Strange though, to compare these two films and consider the different approaches in this regard. Children of Men sets up a state of war in which the camera almost cloverfield reviews exist, and thereby places the viewer in the midst of everyday chaos likely experienced by far too many, especially in the Middle East. Cloverfield, on the other hand, almost features the camera as a main character, synthesizing an experience of war in a much more subjective manner.

Cloverfield was not created to deep cloverfield reviews about film philosophy, I am certain. But questions and ideas about filmmaking as a process continue to linger after the final shot. Regardless, its a bloody good ride done well and in a cloverfield reviews fuck-Hollywood manner, thin characters and nitpickery aside.

Interestingly also, the only preview was a short and purely suggestive trailer indicating that the next Star Trek movie, also an Abrams production, shall be out this Christmas. I may be wrong but I think Patrick Stewarts voice featured briefly, so&

christian brando

The first Europeans to visit the atoll of Tetiaroa in the South Pacific were deserters from Captain William Blighs ship the Bounty in 1789. Bligh came and caught them; soon afterwards Fletcher Christian led a more successful christian brando In 1967 Marlon Brando bought a 99-year lease on this ring of low-lying islands for $270,000. It was his own private colony, a fantasy of freedom that connected him to the 18th-century Bounty mutineers and their contemporaries, the authors of the American Declaration of Independence.Brando tried to make Tetiaroa the home of an international thinktank, to create a self-sufficient refuge from the coming nuclear catastrophe, to breed Atlantic cold-water lobsters in the warm waters of the At one time he lived here in a single room. Some of his nine children, especially his eldest son Christian and daughter Cheyenne, spent a significant part of their lives here, and at Punaauia on neighbouring Tahiti. In 1995 Cheyenne hanged herself at Punaauia, after losing a custody battle christian brando her son Tuki. This happened five years after Christian Brando shot dead her Tahitian boyfriend Dag Drollet at the Brando home on Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles. At Christians trial, Marlon testified, I think perhaps I failed as a father.

Article continues

As a father, Marlon Brando improvised, if you believe his biographers. He followed his moods, his feelings. Sometimes he lavished attention on children, and sometimes he forgot them for years. He lived in the same aleatory way that he acted.Brando was one of the grandest and most grotesque exponents of the only purely American contribution to art: improvisation. To improvise is to be free. It is to be truly alive - unmechanical, unpredictable. was the greatest actor in the history of cinema because he would bring the complex fluency of real life to performances, despite the rewrites, cuts, endless takes.

And did it by ignoring narrative in favour of irrelevant, inexplicable, surreal gestures - improvisations. In The Godfather, as Vito Corleone, he plays with a cat while he discusses beatings and christian brando He sniffs a flower, raises his eyebrows - and these little asides dominate the film, more memorable than any of its slaughters. In On The Waterfront he picks up Eve-Marie Saints white glove and, instead of giving it back to her, puts it on. Its the very redundance of Brandos asides that made him live more intensely than any other actor, because in life we dont only, or often, do things actors are trained to do, things that are relevant, telling, that create a character - we do not act, or not all the time.

Brando didnt make a good film for a quarter of a century, but to the end he had a profound influence on modern culture. He is one of three artists who define what is distinctively American about American creativity. No American art, literature, music or performance has mattered since the late 1940s unless it accepted their influence. The two others were Jackson Pollock and Charlie Parker. The American trait they epitomise better than anyone else is the compulsion to improvise. Improvisation is Americas art, its self-expression - and its disaster.

In his art, Brando created sublime images of a spontaneous, unguided, free existence. In his life, he catastrophically demonstrated the tragedy of American freedom. Liberty and the pursuit of happiness led to loneliness and injustice. Like the Bounty mutineers, like the founding fathers, Brando created christian brando of chaos. His greatness and failure start to make a kind of sense only when you compare him to his peers, Parker and Pollock.

Brando, born in 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, was 80 when he died six months ago. Charlie Bird Parker, born in 1920 in Kansas City, and Jackson Pollock, born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912, would be 84 and 92 now. They could still be here. But the best alto saxophone player who ever lived and the painter who dripped colours christian brando to canvases laid flat died within barely a year of each other, in 1955 and 1956.

Charlie Parker was addicted to heroin, and a lot of other things - whisky, cheap wine, anything that might substitute for heroin. He was hospitalised at Camarillo in California after a breakdown in 1946, but wasnt drug-free for long - his trumpeter Miles Davis christian brando with him after Parker repeatedly christian brando the bands money on drugs. Birds classic recordings date from 1946 to 1948. When he died, of unascertained causes, in New York on March 12 1955, watching the bandleader Tommy Dorsey on television at a Rothschild heiresss house, the doctor who examined the body reckoned the dead christian brando was 53 years old - an overestimate by 19 years.

Jackson Pollock started drinking when he was 15, and by the late 1930s was christian brando dependent on alcohol that he was hospitalised in Westchester, New York, in 1937. Jungian analysis, marriage to the painter Lee Krasner, christian brando moving out of Manhattan to the far christian brando of Long Island freed him to paint his definitive works between 1947 and 1950. But he went back to drinking and his last years were disastrous. He crashed his car near his home on the night of August 11 1956, killing himself and a passenger, Edith Metzger.

Marlon Brandos own addiction was less lethal, or at least not so quickly - he was a compulsive eater. His gorging was already established when Truman Capote wrote a cruel profile of him in 1957. Capote watched the star of A Streetcar Named Desire and The Wild One order a meal of soup, beefsteak with french fries, three orders of vegetables, a plate of spaghetti, rolls and butter, and apple pie with cream. In his latter years stories circulated about how when Brando went to health farms, he paid people to throw burgers over the fence.

For Parker, Pollock and Brando, to be a purely improvisational artist was unbearable - American freedom was unbearable. Liberty and the pursuit of happiness were attainable only in art - in life, the void had to be filled with addictions, narcotic crutches, gluttony.

The belief that America will be found in the improvised, the spontaneous, the truly free, dates to the late 19th century, to the birth of what was in effect a new nation after the civil war. The war between the northern and southern states was fought over the meaning of the American constitution: for Lincolns Union, the existence of slavery insulted the universal right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The norths victory did not, of course, truly secure these things for But it did force a question: what was the nature of this American liberty for which young men had died? The idea of American democracy became charged and new: it gave birth to modern American culture. You feel the exhilaration of what a truly democratic christian brando might be in the poetry of Walt Whitman and the fiction of Mark Twain. I celebrate myself, and sing myself, declares Whitman in Leaves Of Grass (1855-92), his epic poem of democracy. In christian brando Adventures Of Tom Sawyer (1876), Twain anticipates every modern American novel, from Salingers The Catcher In The Rye to Mason And Dixon, in mapping a fluvial, free-flowing adventure - childs play as improvisation, with Huckleberry Finn the original hero-improviser.

Twain openly associates Huck and Toms world with black culture, saying in the preface to The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer that it describes the beliefs of children and slaves before the civil war. This aligns Twain with the most important cultural revolution that took place in the US. The most profound reflection on the nature of American freedom after the civil war was, and is, that undertaken by black musicians. The origins of jazz are difficult to reconstruct but early composers saw the roots of the form in slaves work-songs. James P Johnson, father of stride piano in the early 20th century, said he took the call-and-response style of his Carolina Shout (1917) from listening to stevedores, whose shouts derived ultimately from west Africa. But jazz is a response to America, not a rejection of it.

After the christian brando war, democracy and freedom were purportedly extended to everyone. What did freedom mean? Early jazz is both pessimistic and utopian about liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The blue notes that drag the music down are a melancholy undertow of history; the blues insists on the heaviness of life in America, the facts of oppression. But the wild solo improvisations that Louis Armstrong emphatically put at the heart of jazz in his Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings in the 1920s imagine a real American freedom, a utopia of self-fulfilment. Jazz musicians did not repudiate America for its manifest failings: instead they projected an image of true, creative democracy, an America that might be.

In 1945 that nation was, in theory, triumphant. America had just won a war for democracy. For the first time, it knew it was the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth. Yet racial inequalities crippled Whitmans Life immense in passion, pulse and power, and social and political conformity strangled his word Democratic. Even jazz had been made corporate by the big bands, christian brando the genuine jazz orchestras of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman had been eclipsed by the banality of Glenn Miller, a music devoid of black or blue, remote from improvisation; dead, mechanical.

The new music that appeared in New York, first at Mintons in Harlem and then at clubs on 52nd Street - The Street - in the wake of the second world war, rejected this sterile America. It aggressively its own nocturnal country. It insisted more than ever before on improvisatory nature of jazz. Bebop was played by small groups, not big orchestras, and mythologised the solo had to be played fast and complicated, with the most exquisite technical achievement, yet also be rough-toned, raw-sounding. This was virtuoso music. Its supreme virtuoso was Charlie Parker.

He reputedly got his nickname because he insisted on picking up a chicken that had been run over by a tour van in order to cook it, but calling him Bird conveyed what people felt about his music - it soared. Parker posed extreme challenges to the musicians who played with him because he took off on solos that were impossible to follow, somehow returning to sense when he seemed to have unleashed mere chaos.

Miles Davis, later to record the classic Kind Of Blue, began his career as a teenage trumpeter who abandoned his studies at Manhattans Juilliard School to play with Parker. Bird would play the melody he wanted, he remembers in his autobiography. The other musicians had to remember what he had played. He was real spontaneous, went on his instinct & Bird was a great improviser and thats where he thought great music came from and what great musicians were about. His concept was fuck whats written down.

The similarities between the art of Charlie Parker and that of Jackson Pollock are so staggering, so deep, so unarguable, that its tempting to suspect Pollock of obfuscation when he claimed not to like bebop. In fact it would be a still more radical improviser, Ornette Coleman, who put a Pollock painting on the cover of his 1961 album Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation. Yet Pollock insisted that he only really loved traditional jazz - and he did love it. His surviving collection of 78s reveals an erudite and passionate fan of black music who listened constantly to early Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and his contemporaries Billie Holiday and Coleman Hawkins. christian brando called jazz the only other creative thing happening in this country. Art critics have never really taken seriously its influence on him. Its as if American modernism cant handle the idea christian brando Pollocks most significant influence was black music.

The romance and myth that surround Pollock are so vulgar, critics seem to feel. The formal achievement of Pollocks christian brando they argue, is unrelated to the cheap, glamorous image of the painter dancing around canvas to sax and drum solos before dying violently, a romantic burnout. Funnily enough, respectable jazz writers are similarly suspicious of the romantic cult of Bird. His dependence on heroin, they fear, falsely made musicians think they needed to shoot up like him to play like him.

But Pollock and Parker were what they were - they meant it. They lived and died their epics. They risked everything brando find the authentic America beyond all the phoney talk.

Listen to Parkers Scrapple From The Apple, recorded in 1947, and look at Pollocks 1950 Number 27, today in the Whitney Museum of American Art. The best way to describe the structure of Pollocks abstraction is to compare it to Parkers music. There are several kinds of mark on Number 27, different in tone - like different instruments. There are percussive splashes, sharp bursts of white. There are underlying black bass notes. Over all this float curling green sensual arabesques - the sax solo.

Improvisation is what matters to both these artists. Listening to his jazz records, Pollock made paintings that are pure improvisatory expressions, with no given form, no figurative constraint. It is his instinct alone that leads him out into space. Yet, miraculously, in the great works of 1947 to 1950, he discovers a harmony in this freedom - his paintings are not a mess after all, but coherent, enigmatically so. Pollock is able to improvise structure. Parker has this same miraculous ability to take the music on a wild walk yet never lose sight of where he started. Eventually Bird would come christian brando to where the rhythm was, right on time, remembers Miles Davis. It was like he had planned it in his mind.

This deep sense of form christian brando what makes Pollock and Parker of a kind. Bird sounds sweet, and Pollocks paintings are beautiful. Tellingly, it was one of christian brando late, romantically failed paintings, in which despair overcomes him, that Ornette Coleman reproduced on the cover of his turbulent Free Jazz. The best Pollock paintings never have that sense of breakdown. They possess a savage grace.

If they rejected cacophony and chaos, Pollock and Parker were scarcely virtuosi in the way that classical European artists and musicians christian brando accomplishment is not what they christian brando about. No Raphael, no Mozart. Both deliberately roughen and dirty their surface. Pollock uses house paints. He drops cigarette butts into the drying paint. Parker rejects the harmonious tones of earlier sax soloists and introduces a raw, hoarse sound. For him, as for Pollock, American art must be rough in texture. This is part of being democratic. Its as if they both defy themselves to produce beauty under impossible circumstances. Why do they risk themselves like this?

It is to find the true American voice. Improvisation, for Mark Twain and Louis Armstrong, was the free way. Parker and Pollock took this seriously, and tried, in a society at once conformist, racist and unequal, to find Americas lost music - the music that only ever existed in late-night smoky rooms for a few minutes, the music the Constitution promised. In place of the phoney freedom for which the Rosenbergs were executed, the new American art of the late 1940s imagined a bodily, sensual, shared freedom.

Resist much, obey little, urged Walt Whitman, and American modernism took this to heart. Everything start anew, from the unruly self.

It was impossible to sustain this. Neither Pollock nor Parker maintained their 1940s achievements through their final years. Almost immediately, their radical interpretation of Americas affirmation of liberty turned to clichĂŠ. Most of the art produced in its name was colossally inferior to theirs. The Beats tried and failed to translate bebop spontaneity into writing; so what if Kerouacs On The Road was composed free-form on a single roll of paper? Its a dutiful read.

In art and music, the best followers of Pollock and Parker deliberately reversed their terms. Miles Davis created cool jazz. Jasper Johns painted Flag. Meanwhile the authentic, non-racist, egalitarian American freedom glimpsed by two dying men just after the second world war mutated into hipster kitsch, William Burroughs, Jim & Apocalypse Now. It is hard now to believe American democracy ever inspired great, beautiful, modern art, the best of our era.

Marlon Brando seemed to forget, as much as film audiences, what that was, that lost vitality. Brando was the artistic equal of Pollock and Parker. His performance on Broadway as Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williamss A Streetcar Named Desire in 1947-8 transformed American culture as decisively as they did - and more universally. Modern painting and modern jazz are minority arts. But christian brando the raw, working-class, violently unpredictable American voice of Stanley Kowalski transferred from stage to screen, it became globally iconic.

Tennessee Williams was an acquaintance and drinking companion of Pollock and Lee Krasner, and spent a summer with them in Provincetown in 1944. He called Pollock dark. The outwardly boorish Pollock may have been a model for the character Brando was to elevate into an American myth.

Recognition that Brando was above all an improviser is sometimes obfuscated by his association with the realist postwar director Elia Kazan. Brando is seen as a realist, when in truth he is an abstract artist. This is why his best films are the ones he made for Coppola and Bertolucci in the 1970s. Neither of these directors is a realist, and the characters they gave Brando are mythic, monsters.

Brando was allowed to improvise as much as he wanted: he refused to learn lines - dialogue had to be concealed around the set of The Godfather on cue cards. Bertolucci encouraged him to improvise most of his speeches in Last Tango In Paris in their entirety. When Paul - the ageing Brando plays - embarks on an anonymous sexual relationship with a young French woman, and remembers his childhood, it is Brandos own childhood he describes: growing up on a farm with alcoholic parents. Paul has been a boxer, an actor, a bongo player - Brando plays bongos, and was the martyred boxer hero of On The Waterfront. When hes helped up at the end of On The Waterfront, you can feel the weight of body, as when you contemplate a Michelangelo pietĂ .

There was a mysterious grace to Brandos best acting - just like Pollock and Parker, he seems to discover form randomness. The reason that his playing with christian brando is so hypnotic in The Godfather, rather than being a bit of James Bond villainy, is that instead of being held in place to prevent it squirming away, the cat genuinely loves its Godfather - it nuzzles him spontaneously. In fact it was a stray cat that Brando, whose farm childhood gave him a feel for animals, found at the studio and befriended.

As Kurtz christian brando Apocalypse Now, he reaches the end of Mark Twains river. He is so disintegrated into cruel, mad impulses that Martin Sheens character says, Id never seen anyone so up. Apocalypse Now describes, with hallucinatory christian brando how the counterculture became the mainstream. It is the hippy photojournalist Dennis Hopper who falls for Kurtzs fascist bullshit, who calls him a warrior-poet. From Twain to Charlie Parker, Jackson Pollock and Marlon Brando, American artists took freedom, that word America touted so emptily, and tried to find a meaning in it; an American ethic of self-expression.

Apocalypse Now is the death christian brando this illusion. There is plenty of freedom here - nothing else except freedom, and self-expression. Americans fire from helicopters for fun. The war is a riff. When a marksman shoots into the night to the sound of an electric guitar solo, it could so easily be a sax. At the end of the river, Marlon Brando improvises a monster so disorganised that some feel the performance itself is nothing but chaos. He lisps, Have you ever considered any true freedoms?

Just had them for over a week now.
Ive read lots of good things about them, cant speak from personal experience though.
Mine only lasted 3 monthsi had the t9 roaster
I have worn several Prince shoes & prince georges county public schools them.

They provide, for me, the best combination of fit, cushion(that holds up well) and durability that I have been able to find.I am currently wearing the MS4(great price & very nice shoe).

Have recently worn the Viper III low(very comfortable but a bit wide), T10(great shoe for comfort & durability) and QT Scream 2(nice shoe but not as cushioned as the others).I love the looks & durability of the Adidas Barricade, but found the Prince shoes to work better for me.They are well worth a try prince georges county public schools
prince georges county public schools I just switch to the Prince T10 from a new pair of NB 1200.

I switched because of shin and knee pain.

I do stretch prior to playing since I am prone to shin pain.

The T10 fixed that.

A very comfortable prince georges county public schools cushioned shoe.

I have a wider foot and it fits well in that area.

The best part is prestretching plus Prince T10 equals no pain

prime numbers

prime numbers

This week I am in giving this years Simons lectures at MIT together with David Donoho. (These lectures, incidentally, are endowed by Jim Simons, who was mentioned in some earlier discussion here.) While preparing these lectures, it occurred to me that I may as well post my lecture notes on this blog, since this medium is essentially just an asynchronous version of a traditional lecture series, and prime numbers hypertext capability is in some ways more convenient and informal than, say, LaTeX slides.

I am giving three lectures, each expounding on some aspects prime numbers the theme the dichotomy between structure and randomness, which I also spoke about (and wrote about) for the ICM last August. This theme seems to pervade many of the areas of mathematics that I work in, and my lectures aim to explore how this theme manifests itself in several of these. In this, the first lecture, I describe the dichotomy as it appears in Fourier analysis and in number theory. (In the second, I discuss the dichotomy in ergodic theory and graph theory, while in the third, I discuss PDE.)

The dichotomy between structure and randomness to apply in circumstances in which one is considering a high-dimensional class of objects (e.g. sets prime numbers integers, functions on a space, dynamical systems, graphs, solutions to PDE, etc.). For sake of concreteness, let us focus today sets of integers (later lectures will focus on other classes of objects). There are many types of objects in these classes, however one can broadly classify them into three categories:

  • Structured objects - objects with a high degree of predictability and algebraic structure. A typical example are the odd integers A = {&,-3,-1,1,3,5,&}. Note that if some large number n is known to lie in A, this reveals a lot of information about whether n+1, n+2, etc. will also lie in A. Structured objects are best studied using the tools of algebra and geometry.
  • Pseudorandom objects - the opposite of structured; these are highly unpredictable and totally lack any algebraic structure. A good example is a randomly chosen set B of integers, in which each element n lies in B with an independent probability of 1/2. (One can imagine flipping prime numbers for each integer n, and defining B to be the set of n for which the coin flip resulted in heads.) Note that if some prime numbers n is known to lie in B, this conveys no information whatsoever about the relationship of n+1, n+2, etc. with respect to B. Pseudorandom objects are best studied using the tools of analysis and probability.
  • Hybrid sets - sets which exhibit some features of structure and some features of pseudorandomness. A good example is the primes P = {2,3,5,7,&}. The primes have some obvious structure in them: for instance, the prime numbers are all positive, they are all odd (with one exception), they are all adjacent to a multiple of six (with two exceptions), and their last digit is always 1, 3, 7, or 9 (with two exceptions). On the other hand, there is evidence that the primes, despite being a deterministic set, behave in a very pseudorandom or uniformly distributed manner. For instance, from the Siegel-Walfisz theorem we know that the last digit of large prime numbers is uniformly distributed in the set {1,3,7,9}; thus, if N is a large integer, the number of primes less than N ending in (say) 3, divided by the total number of primes less than N, is known prime numbers converge to 1/4 in the limit as N goes to infinity. In order to study hybrid objects, one needs a large variety of tools: one needs tools such as algebra and geometry to understand structured component, one needs tools such as analysis and probability to understand the pseudorandom component, and one needs tools such as prime numbers algorithms, and evolution equations to separate the structure from the pseudorandomness. (More on this in later talks.)

A recurring question in many areas of analysis is the following: given a specific object (such as the prime numbers), can one determine precisely what the structured components are within the object, and how pseudorandom the remaining components of the object are? One reason for asking this question is that it helps one compute various statistics (averages, sums, integrals, correlations, norms, etc.) of the object being prime numbers For instance, one can ask for how many twin pairs {n, n+2}, with n between 1 and N, one can find within a given set. In the structured set A given above, the answer is roughly N/2. For the random set B given above, the answer is roughly N/4; thus one sees that while A and B exactly the same density (namely, 1/2), their statistics are rather different due to the fact that one is structured and one is random. As for the prime numbers, nobody knows what the answer is (though it is conjectured to be roughly 1.32 frac{N}{log^2 N}), because we do not know enough yet about the pseudorandomness of the primes. On the other hand, the parity structure of the prime numbers is enough to show that the number of adjacent pairs {n, n+1} in the prime numbers is exactly one: {2,3}.

The problem of determining exactly what the structured and components are of any given object is still largely intractable. However, what we have learnt in many cases is that we can at least show that an arbitrary object can be decomposed into some structured component and some pseudorandom component. Also there is often an orthogonality property (or dichotomy): if an object is orthogonal (or has small correlation with) structured objects, then it is prime numbers pseudorandom, and vice versa. Finally, we are sometimes lucky enough to be able to classify all the structured objects which are relevant for any given problem (e.g. computing a particular statistic). In such cases, one merely needs (in principle) to compute how the given object correlates with each member in ones list of structured objects in order to determine what the desired statistic is. This is often simpler (though still non-trivial) than computing the statistic directly.

To illustrate these general principles, let us focus now on a specific area in analytic number theory, prime numbers that of finding additive patterns in the prime numbers {2, 3, 5, 7, &}. Despite centuries of progress on these problems, many questions are still unsolved, for instance:

On the other hand, we do have some positive results:

As a general rule, it appears that it prime numbers feasible (after non-trivial effort) to find patterns in the primes involving two or more degrees of freedom (as described by the parameters n, n in above examples), but we still do not have the proper technology for finding patterns in the primes involving only one degree of freedom n. (This is of course an oversimplification; for instance, the pattern n, n+2, n, n+2 has two degrees of freedom, but finding infinitely many of these patterns in the primes is equivalent to the twin prime conjecture. If however one makes a assumption, one can make the above claim more precise.)

One useful tool for establishing some (but not all) of prime numbers above positive results is Fourier analysis (which in this context also known as the Hardy-Littlewood circle method). Rather than give the textbook presentation of that method here, let us try to motivate why Fourier analysis is an essential feature of many of these problems from the perspective of the dichotomy between structure and randomness, and in particular viewing structure as an obstruction to computing statistics which needs to be understood before the statistic can be accurately computed.

To treat many of the above questions concerning the primes in a unified manner, let us consider the following general setting. We consider k affine-linear forms psi_1, ldots, psi_k: {Bbb Z}^r to {Bbb Z} on r integer unknowns, and ask

  • Question: does there there exist infinitely many r-tuples vec n = (n_1,ldots,n_r) in {Bbb Z}_+^r of positive integers such that psi_1(vec n), ldots, psi_k(vec n) are simulatenously prime?

For instance, the twin prime conjecture is the case when k=2, r=1, psi_1(n) = n, and psi_2(n) = n+2; van der Corputs theorem is the case when k=3, r=2, and psi_j(n,n for j=0,1,2; and so forth.

Because of the obvious structures in the primes, the answer to the above question can be no. For instance, since all but one of the primes are odd, we know that there not infinitely many patterns of the form n, n+1 in the primes, because it is not possible for n, n+1 to both be odd. More generally, given any prime q, we know that all but one of the primes is coprime to q. Hence, if it is not possible for psi_1(vec n), ldots, psi_k(vec n)obstruction at q. For instance, the pattern n, n+1 has an obstruction at 2. The pattern n, n+2, n+4 has no obstruction at 2, but has an obstruction at 3, because it is not possible for n, n+2, n+4 to all be coprime to 3. And so forth.

Another obstruction comes from the trivial observation that the primes are all positive. Hence, if it is not possible for psi_1(vec n), ldots, psi_k(vec n) to all be positive for infinitely many values of vec n, then we say that there is an obstruction at infinity, and the answer to the question is again in this case. For instance, for any fixed N, the pattern n, N-n can only occur finitely often in the primes, because there are only finitely many n for which n, N-n are both positive.

It is conjectured that these local obstructions are the only obstructions to solvability of the above question. More precisely, we have

  • Dicksons conjecture: If there are no obstructions at any prime q, and there are no obstructions at infinity, then the answer to the above question is yes.

This conjecture would imply the twin prime and Sophie Germain conjectures, as well as the Green-Tao theorem; it also implies the Hardy-Littlewood prime tuples conjecture as a special case. There is a quantitative version of this conjecture which predicts a precise count as to how many solutions there are in a given range, and which would then also imply Vinogradovs theorem, as well as Goldbachs conjecture (for sufficiently large N); see this paper for further discussion. As one can imagine, this conjecture is still largely unsolved, however there are many important special cases that have now been established - several of which via the Hardy-Littlewood circle method.

One can view Dicksons conjecture as an impossibility statement: that it is impossible to find any other obstructions to solvability for linear patterns in the primes than the obvious local obstructions at primes q and at infinity. (It is also a good example of a local-to-global principle, that local solvability implies global solvability.) Impossibility statements have always been very difficult to prove - one has to locate all possible obstructions to solvability, and eliminate each one of them in turn. In particular, one has to exclude various exotic conspiracies between the primes to behave in an unusually structured manner that somehow manages to always avoid all the patterns that one is seeking within the primes. How can one disprove a conspiracy?

To give an example of what such a conspiracy might look like, consider the twin prime conjecture, that of finding infinitely many pairs n, n+2 which are both prime. This pattern encounters no obstructions at primes q or at infinity and so Dicksons conjecture predicts that there should be infinitely many such patterns. In particular, there are no obstructions at 3 because prime numbers can equal 1 or 2 mod 3, and it is possible to find pairs n, n+2 which also have this property. But suppose that it transpired that all but finitely many of the primes ended up being 2 mod 3. From looking at tables primes this seems to be unlikely, but it is not immediately obvious how to disprove it; it could well be that once one numbers say, 10^{100}Dirichlets theorem, which guarantees infinitely many primes equal to a prime numbers q whenever a, q are coprime, and so we can rule out particular type of conspiracy. (This does strongly suggest, though, that knowledge of Dirichlets theorem is a necessary but not sufficient condition in order to solve the twin prime conjecture.) But perhaps there are other conspiracies that one needs to rule out also?

To look for other conspiracies that one prime numbers to eliminate, let us rewrite the conspiracy all but finitely many of the primes are 2 mod 33 in the more convoluted format

0.6 < { frac{1}{3} p } < 0.7 for all but finitely many primes p

where prime numbers is the fractional part of x. This type of conspiracy can now be generalised, for instance consider the statement

0 < { sqrt{2} p } < 0.01 for all but finitely many primes p. (*)

Again, such a conspiracy seems very unlikely - one would expect these fractional parts to be uniformly distributed between 0 and 1, rather than concentrate all in the interval [0, 0.01] - but it is hard to rule this conspiracy out a priori. And if this conspiracy (*) was in fact true, then the twin prime conjecture would be false, as can be quickly seen by considering the identity

{ sqrt{2} (n+2) } - { sqrt{2} n } = 2 sqrt{2} hbox{ mod } 1,

which forbids the two fractional parts on the left-hand side to simultaneously fall in the interval [0, 0.01]. Thus, in order to solve the twin prime conjecture, one must rule out (*). Fortunately, it has been known since the work of Vinogradov that { sqrt{2} p } is in fact uniformly distributed in the interval [0,1], and more generally that { alpha p } is uniformly distributed in [0,1] whenever alpha is irrational. Indeed, by Weyls criterion, this is equivalent to the exponential sum estimate

sum_{p<N} e^{2pi i alpha p} = o( sum_{p < N} 1 ),

and we now see the appearance of Fourier analysis in this subject.

One can rather easily concoct endless stream of further conspiracies, each of which could contradict the twin prime conjecture; this is one of the reasons why this conjecture is considered so difficult. Let us thus leave this conjecture for now and consider some two-parameter problems. Consider for instance the problem of finding infinitely many patterns of the form n, n+n, n+2n+2 (i.e. arithmetic progressions of length 3, but with the last element shifted by 2). Once again, the prime numbers (*), if true, would obstruct solvability for this pattern, due to the easily verified identity

{ sqrt{2} n } - 2 { sqrt{2} (n+n

which is related to the fact that the function sqrt{2} n has a vanishing second derivative. (Note that the same conspiracy does not obstruct solvability of an unmodified arithmetic progression n, n+n, n+2n. This a special property of arithmetic progressions, which most other patterns do not have: namely that arithmetic progressions tend to exist both in structured objects and in pseudorandom objects, or in hybrids of the two. This is why results about arithmetic progressions have tended to be easier to establish than those about more general patterns, as one does not need to know as much about the structured and random components of the set in which one is looking for progressions.)

More generally, we can see that if the primes correlate in some unusual way with a prime numbers character e^{2pi i alpha p}, then this is likely to bias or distort the number of patterns {n, n+n, n+2n+2} in a significant manner. However, thanks to Fourier analysis, we can show that these Fourier conspiracies are in fact the only obstructions to counting this type of pattern. Very roughly, one can sketch the reason for this as follows. Firstly, it is helpful to create a counting function for the primes, namely the von Mangoldt function Lambda(n), defined as log p whenever n is a power of a prime p, and 0 otherwise. This rather strange-looking function is actually rather natural, because of the identity

sum_{d|n} Lambda(d) = log n

for all positive integers n; this identity is a restatement of the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, and in fact defines the von Mangoldt function uniquely. The problem of counting patterns {n, n+n, n+2n+2} is then roughly equivalent to the task of computing sums such as

sum_n sum_{n (**)

where prime numbers shall be intentionally vague as to what range the variables n, n will be summed over. We have the Fourier inversion formula

Lambda(n) = int_0^1 e^{2pi i n theta} Lambda(theta) dtheta

where

hat Lambda(theta) = sum_n Lambda(n) e^{-2pi i n theta}

is a sum very similar in nature to the sums sum_{p N} e^{2pi i p alpha} mentioned earlier. Substituting this formula into (**), we prime numbers get an expression of the form

int_0^1 hat Lambda(theta)^2 hat Lambda(-2theta) e^{4pi i theta} dtheta.

Thus, if one gets good enough control on the Fourier coefficients hat Lambda(theta), which can be viewed as a measure of how much the primes conspire with a linear phase oscillation with frequency theta, then one can (in principle, at least) count the solutions to the pattern {n, n+n, n+2n+2} in the primes. This is the Hardy-Littlewood circle method in a nutshell, and this is for instance how van der Corputs theorem and Vinogradov theorem were first proven.

I have glossed over the question of how one actually computes Fourier coefficients hat Lambda(theta). It turns out that there prime numbers two cases. In the major arc case when theta is rational, or close prime numbers rational (with a reasonably small denominator), then the problem turns out to be essentially equivalent to counting primes in arithmetic progressions, and so one uses tools related to Dirichlets theorem (L-functions, the Siegel-Walfisz theorem, etc.). In the minor arc case when theta is far from rational, one instead uses identities such as

Lambda(n) = sum_{d|n} mu(d) prime numbers title=

where mu is the MĂśbius function, to split the Fourier coefficient as

hat Lambda(theta) = sum_d sum_m mu(d) log(m) prime numbers i alpha dm}

and then one uses the irrationality of alpha to exhibit some significant prime numbers in the phase e^{2pi i alpha dm}, which cannot be fully canceled out by the oscillation in the mu(d) factor. (In practice, the above strategy does not work directly, and one has to work with various truncated or smoothed out versions of the above identities; this is technical and will not be discussed here.)

Now suppose we look at progressions of length 4: n, n+n, n+2n, n+3n. As with progressions of length 3, linear or Fourier conspiracies such as (*) will bias or distort the prime numbers count of such progressions in the primes less than a given number N. But, prime numbers contrast to the length 3 case where these are the only conspiracies that actually influence things, for length 4 progressions there are now quadratic conspiracies which can cause trouble. Consider for instance the conspiracy

0 < { sqrt{2} p^2 } < 0.01 for all but finitely many primes p (***).

This conspiracy, which can exist even when all linear conspiracies are eliminated, will significantly bias the number of progressions of length 4, due to the identity

{ sqrt{2} n^2 } - 3 { sqrt{2} (n+n

= 0 hbox{ mod } 1

which is related to the fact that the function sqrt{2} n^2 has a vanishing third derivative. In this case, the conspiracy works in ones favour, increasing the total number of progressions of length 4 beyond what one would have naively expected; as mentioned before, this is related to a remarkable indestructability property of prime numbers which can be used to establish things like the Green-Tao theorem without having to deal directly with these obstructions. Thus, in order to count progressions prime numbers length 4 in the primes accurately (and not just to establish the qualitative result that there are infinitely many of them), one needs to eliminate conspiracies such as (***), which necessitates understanding exponential sums such as sum_{p < N} e^{2pi i alpha p^2} for various rational or irrational numbers alpha. Whats worse, there are several further generalised quadratic conspiracies which can also bias this count, for instance the conspiracy

0 < { [sqrt{2} p] sqrt{3} p } < 0.01 for all but finitely many primes p,

where [] is the greatest integer function. The point here is that the function {}[sqrt{2} x] sqrt{3} x has a third divided difference which does not entirely vanish (as with the genuine quadratic sqrt{2} x^2), but does vanish a significant portion of the time (because the greatest integer function obeys the linearity property [x+y] = [x] + [y] a significant fraction of the time), which does lead ultimately to a non-trivial bias effect. Because of this, one is also faced with estimating exponential sums such as sum_{p < N} e^{2pi i [sqrt{2} p] sqrt{3} p}. It turns out that the correct way to phrase all of these obstructions is via the machinery of 2-step nilsequences: details can be found in these three papers of Ben Green and myself. As a consequence, we can in fact give a precise count as to how many arithmetic progressions of primes of length 4 with all primes less than N; it turns out to be

(frac{3}{4} geq 5} (1 - frac{3p-1}{(p-1)^3}) + o(1)) frac{N^2}{log^4 N} approx 0.4764 frac{N^2}{log^4 N}.

The method also works for other linear patterns of comparable complexity to progressions of length 4. We are currently working on the problem of longer progressions, in which cubic and higher order obstructions appear (which should be modeled by 3-step and higher nilsequences); some work related to this should appear here shortly.

only even prime number

only even prime number

I was born on June 23rd.  So the number is significant to me.  Last night, I rented the DVD of The Number 23, starring Jim Carrey.  Although it got generally bad reviews, I liked the films quirky only even prime number especially the opening credits sequence.  Id give the movie a B- in spite of the convoluted plot and less than stellar ending. Jim Carrey is very good in this film, but the stuff about 23, a prime number that has obsessed mathematicians, is the real star and it didnt get enough only even prime number time.

Heres an article about the mystical number 23:

23 fascinating facts about the number twenty-three
(The Independent, UK, 9-14-07) Excerpt:

3. John Forbes Nash, the Nobel Prize-winning economist who was the subject of only even prime number film, A Beautiful Mind, starring Russell Crowe, was obsessed with 23. It featured prominently in his battle with mental illness. His breakdown began when he claimed that a photograph of Pope John XXIII on the cover of Life magazine was in fact him, the proof being that 23 was his favourite number. Nash published 23 scientific articles.

6. The Ancient Chinese believed numbers conveyed sexuality - evens for feminine and odds for masculine. They considered prime numbers to be the most masculine, conferring special status on 23 which is made up of two consecutive prime numbers and the only even prime number - two.

9. Few hold 23 in more esteem than the followers of Discordianism, a self-declared religion based on the premise that discord and chaos are the building blocks of life. For Discordianists, 23 is the Holy Number and a tribute to the goddess Eris, who surveys a world of chaos. The mantra invoked by Discordianists for the Holy Number is Invert The Pyramid. If you invert the sentence one letter at a time - eg dinvert the pyramid, id invert the pyram etc - it takes 22 chants, finished by the line The Pyramid Inverts to make 23. The last line is called the final energy releaser. Discordianism is described by some followers as a joke only even prime number as a religion disguised as a joke.

Perhaps the next William Hung

American Idol continued last night in the great state of Texas and one contestant, Renaldo Lapuz received his 15 minutes of fame already.

Renaldo Lapuz, dressed to the nines in some sort of cheap Elvis Liberace costume, (Including cape and winged hat with a Simon patch) sang his own inspirational song to Simon, Paula, and Randy. renaldo lapuz then to Ryan as well.

We bow down to the renaldo lapuz of American idol as he sings I am your brother.

paula stalker

paula stalker

by WindUpDoll

Last week, Simon Cowell paula stalker a group of TCA reporters that hes sure talent has slipped through the American Idol cracks. However, none of those talents have made it big. Well, tonight begins the festival of thousands that will, inevitably, slip through the cracks. Talent or no.

Were starting off with the required shots of folks in the crowds — some talented, some delusional. This, is American Idol.

And so begins the opening theme music that has such a Pavlovian effect on me. It makes me want to sit on my butt and eat Cheetos. I cant eat Cheetos and blog at the same time, though, as it would mess up the keyboard and leave crumbs all over the couch. Were beginning in Philadelphia.

First story of the day is a guy who lost over 200 pounds. Kudos to — heres hoping you can sing. Uh, oh, he said he have to fake the funk. Thats not a good sign. But, actually, hes not bad. Hes through, and was nice enough to ask before he went up to shake their hands. Simon says he looks hungry. Ryan is schmoozing his grandmothers. The preview for paula stalker the commercial promises me some folks of questionable mental health. Sweet.

Weve begun this section of tonights auditions with an immigrant — Aala from Egypt. His English is ok, and he seems like a sweet guy. He gets schooled by a woman in a white boa — she asks if hes got kids. He replies that hes not married. She tells him thats not necessary. Hes definitely not the worst singer thats ever been on American Idol. I mean, hes not good, but hes one of the average bad. Hes on this show because Simon & Randy are torturing Paula as she struggles to be nice to him.

Melanie is up, and shes claiming that she sung backup for paula stalker Hicks. She sings the required Natasha Bedingfield song and makes it through.

Weve got paula stalker guide up next. Hes been compared to Eddie Vedder and Paul Robeson. Oh, Lord. Its not good. paula stalker singing Go Down Moses and, well, his voice is deep like Paul Robeson. The judges lose their composure completely. Randy tries the hand & papers in front of the face thing, which never works. So, of course James starts singing again. Because if at first you dont succeed, keep singing until they say yes. Which theyve never done. Do these people not watch the show?

Theyve just shown me a close-up of a Philly Cheese Steak. I just ate dinner, but I totally want one.

Oh, goody! Someone just butchered Unchained Melody, Simons favorite song! Its the montage of bad singers! Bad screamer girl. Bad expressionless Chinese guy!

So you know a good singer two are coming up. Good black guy, good Latin guy, good White guy — its a rainbow of good singin.

And we meet Temptress Brown — a 16-year-old girl middle linebacker. She says if you make her paula stalker enough, shell break your bones. Shes auditioning for her mom, whos very sick, and Temptress has to take care of her many times. So I really hope shes at least halfway decent. At 16 shes got a lot of time to develop as a singer, if shes good. Shes singing Im Not Going Nowhere and she mistakenly credits it to Jennifer Hudson, who did sing it, but Jennifer Holliday sang it first. Shes 16, what are you gonna do?

Shes not very good, but the judges to try to be kind to her. Shes 16, so of course shes crying. Shes a sweet kid — shes insisting she cant go out to her family & say that she so the judges go out with her. Its genuinely sweet. Its one of those moments that makes you realize there are folks who really bank on things like this to make a better life. Which is kind of a downer when youre watching American Idol. Thankfully were not dwelling on it — look, theres a guy who really cant dance, and a girl who looks a bit rough if shes really within the Idol age range who cant stop flipping off the camera. I take it she doesnt get a Golden Ticket.

Mark Hays can a cricket impression. He can also sing&. really&. slowly&. Theres a bar here in Milwaukee called Angelos. If he were to go to Angelos on a Friday or Saturday night and sing with their paula stalker Norma, who is the older, tanned woman with fabulous blond hair, Norma would roll her eyes as she does with everyone who sings that slowly, even if theyre good.

The next guy likes to incorporate music in the workplace. He does financial work at an auto company. He thinks of dressing as MC Hammer as a creative way to lead a meeting. Its David Brent bringing his guitar out at a staff meeting. Is it a spoiler if I tell you he cant sing? Is it a spoiler to tell you that he actually questions the judges rejection? Is it?

The song everyone sings badly this episode is paula stalker Love Rock & Roll. Theres country-styled bad, rockin bad, drag queen bad, costumed freak bad, the entire stadium full of not-so-bad. Were hoping somewhere Joan Jett is on a tour bus just raking in the cash off paula stalker now were up to Alexis Cohen, who claims to be 23. Please, Stacey & Clinton from What Not to Wear, have an intervention. She wants to be a vet, but shes also an artist. I actually like some of the pieces they showed. Shes all manic before she gets into the judges room. We know that she doesnt stay that way. She claims shes been compared to Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and Pat Benatar. Shes singing Somebody to Love, the Jefferson Airplane song. Shes pretty much learned how to copy Grace Simon calls her performance possessed. Simon actually says shell probably be a vet or be in a small-town band, but that stalker competition isnt for her.

She actually holds it together in the room. When she leaves, Simon asks who the baddy was in Spider Man. Hes told Willem Dafoe, and Simon says Yes!
And then the meltdown, and its a good one. She ranks on Simon, who, from what were shown, didnt really say anything rude to her. Im assuming if he said something rude to her face, we would get to see it. Weve seen him say some pretty rude things. She tells us where shes going next, and next shes going for Actressing. Her mother tells her that acting is the hardest thing of all and that Simons British. What that has to do with anything, I dont know. Alexis rants, raves, flips off the camera and gets bleeped all the way out the door.

Angela Martin came all the way from Chicago with her family. Her daughter has Retts Syndrome, so will have problems for the rest of her life. Various family members are talking about her daughter & their love for her. She wants to make it to make a better life for her daughter. She talks about working full-time as a singer in Chicago. She sings Signed, Delivered paula stalker is quite good, but she does the little runs & other things that annoy Simon. He tells her to de-weddingize her singing. She makes it.

Simon marvels at the American ability to celebrate in a friends good news. I dont know if thats a British thing, or just a Simon thing.

Were at the paula stalker point, so of course, we need to recap the first hour — just in case you missed one second.

Alyse is a dancing fiend in the waiting room, and a screaming fiend in the audition. Volume does not necessarily equal passion, folks, and we have the montage of paula stalker loud, awful singers.

We also have the old guy who wants to sing his song No Sex Allowed to the judges for the teenagers of the country. Hes a social worker & a songwriter. Its all about a boy whos being tempted by his girlfriend. No Sex Allowed, I dont want to be a part of your crowd! Simon says in Britian, they call what he does creepy. I would have to agree. Hes happy he got be on TV.

Kristy is a cute girl from Oregon. She sold a horse to get to the audition. She also kickboxes and does martial arts, and does a nice job with Amazing Grace. Shes a little country for my taste, but sweet and could likely kick my butt. Shes through to Hollywood.

Theyve the next section Star Wars. Now, Im a huge Star Wars fan, but I dont have a Star Wars belt buckle. Even if I did, I wouldnt wear paula stalker to American Idol auditions. Ill admit it, though, I have done the Princess Leia buns when I had long hair. It was Halloween, though.

You know the producers knew what Ben had under his cape, since a guy in a cape cant go anywhere without being searched. He reveals his Princess Leia Jabba the Hut captive bikini outfit. Yeah, hes a guy, and hes not in shape. Paula cant get past the chest hair, so she tells him he can come back if he waxes his chest. He agrees & goes in search of a salon.

Hey! Its the woman who tried to school Aala! She runs all over America the Beautiful. Weve got another swearing montage from bitter rejectees.

Then weve got a Paula stalker. Hes singing original song he wrote for her — its all about stalking her, breaking into her house and other things that rhyme with the word stalk. Hes really, quite creepy. Man, I hope he was doing it just to get on TV, otherwise I fear for Paulas safety.

Beth Stalker sings Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered I really like her. Of course, I also really like the song, but shes got a lovely voice. Simon doesnt think she would stand out in a crowd, but Paula and Randy put her through.

Oh, man, I didnt see this one coming. Of Idol cameras followed our weirdo Ben to the salon to get his chest waxed, so we get to witness the horror. Man, just from the little Ive seen, Ben has selected an inexperienced waxing professional. Yikes!

So were back from break and Ben is back. Hes a little pink, but hes not bleeding, so I guess hes ok. Of course hes going to sing Dontcha. He gets about 5 seconds into that song before he gets kicked out.

Wow, the next contestant is quite pretty. Chris is 20 with some nice dreadlocks. Hes singing an Uncle Kracker song, Follow Me. Hes got a good voice, but for me, hes more confident & pretty than a good singer. Simon says that the girls will like him. I think Simon misses that some of the boys will like him, too. Hes not bad, and hes through.

Christina is rockin the Princess Leia buns and Star Wars belt. She even gives a Star Trek rip. She believes in herself, but shes a little Mary Katherine Gallagher. Shes singing Dont Let the Sun Go Down On Me and specifies the Roger Daltrey version. Of course shes a little weird and a self-declared goofball. Of course, they dont think shes right for the competition. Shes convinced that it was her exterior that got her rejected. Shell probably think that for a long time.

Our final contestant is Brooke and shes a nanny for twins. Shes also never seen a rated R movie, drank or smoked, but she seems sincere. She is married though, and her husband hasnt either. Shes 24. Shes got a good voice. Simon says hes going to bring her over to the dark side. She dares him, but takes it back.

We leave with a preview of Texas auditions, where of course folks have to try and sing Kelly Clarkson songs. Do I even need to tell you that theyre sung badly?

Say goodbye to my productivity.

Convert Youtube video, DVD, video files to iPod touch, iPod classic and iPod nano - LAYERS Magazine Forums

Apple has just released iPod touch and the newest iPod nano.

IPod touch both looks and operates pretty much like iPhone with the touch-screen.

Compared to iPod Classic, iPod touch is easier to operate and has a much better screen for watching videos.

The newest iPod nano now also supports video with great picture quality.

And now, you can enjoy movies, TV shows and a lot more videos on iPod classic, iPod touch and iPod nano.

Three important video sources are Youtube videos, DVD movies and regular video files.

The following is to guide you on how to put Youtube video, DVDs and videos on iPod (iPod classic, iPod touch and iPod nano) and Sync to iPod:1.Youtube video to iPodI often visit Youtube to watch videos and sometimes I download videos from Youtube to put on my iPod.

Most Youtube videos are FLV formats, so I use a free online FLV converter to do the conversion:Firstly,go to Youtube and open the page of the video you want to put on your iPod.

And you will find the Youtube URL of this video to the right of the playback window.

Then copy this URL.

See the highlighted area in the figure below:Secondly, go to vixy.net, paste the copied URL into the URL field of this web page, and select “MP4 for iPod/PSP” from the “Converts to” drop-down list.

Then click “Start” below this list to start the conversion.

See the highlighted areas ipod touch upgrade after the conversion, this website will provide a download link for you to download the converted MP4 file.

When you see the link, you can just download the final file from the link, save the downloaded MP4 file on your computer and use iTunes to sync it on to your iPod.2.DVD/Video to iPodI have a huge collection of DVD movies and video files.

And I always put a few movies on my iPod to kill time while travelling.DVD movies cannot be transferred to iPod via iTunes, so I had to find a converter to do that.

I have used a few converters and the one I am using now is Wondershare DVD to iPod Ripper.

It is not free, but not expensive either.

I decided to spend the money coz it does a good job on the final quality and conversion speed.

And if I don’t want to put a whole movie, I can just convert part of a movie onto my iPod with this app.

My OS ipod touch upgrade Windows, so I use the Windows version.

If you are using a ipod touch upgrade OS, I have noticed that they have a Mac DVD to iPod converter that you can try, which I don’t know if is as good because I don’t have Mac OS.Most of my video files are not MP4 formats that can be directly used on iPod, so I also bought the video to iPod converter from the same company coz I thought it would also be nice app, and it turned out to be so.Actually, this video and the DVD converter are pretty much the same as far as the functions and the operational steps are concerned, and the only difference to me is that one is to convert DVDs and the other is to convert ipod touch upgrade files.

If you also want a video to iPod converter, you can just download a trial version to see if it is what you need.

Unfortunately, they don’t have a Mac version for video converters.3.

Sync files to iPodAfter the videos ipod touch upgrade you want to put on your iPod are converted to iPod MP4 formats, you can just sync them to your iPod classic, iPod touch or iPod nano iTunes and start enjoy them! The above is my experience with converting and transferring files from various sources to my iPod, and I hope it can shed some light.
What's the difference between iPod G6 and iPhone?
The main differences areiPod G5 is great but iPod G6 sucks
I like the iPod touch.
Good.It helps me very much.

I know where to get more videos and music for my iPod now.But I do not use wondershare dvd to iPod ripper .I use iskysoft DVD Ripper.

It works well for me for a month.

It can rip DVD to a wide variety of video files and DVD audio to different audio files.

The output video and audio files can be perfectly played on most portable players such as ipod touch upgrade iPod, Apple TV and many other video and audio players.

MacBook Air

Cables not included (Cables no incluidos)&. WTF!!!! (What the Fuck?

legends field

legends field

(related: )

Blade Runner is perhaps the most tinkered with film in history. Based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip legends field Dick, the movie has gone through a 25 year refining process in a story that could only happen in Hollywood. Ridley Scott had a grand vision for the picture, which was his follow-up to the blockbuster Alien. The plot centered around Replicants, bio-mechanoid creations that mimic real humans in almost every way, except for a crippling lack of empathy. Harrison Ford played Rick Deckard, a cop who hunted Replicants, designated a Blade Runner. Almost from the start, troubles plagued the production, as the script went through several legends field rewrites, the budget kept escalating, and a well publicized feud between Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford developed. The end result was deemed commercially unacceptable by Warner Bros, who forced Ford to record a monotone narration that explained many of the concepts and plot points, and adding in a happy ending against Scotts wishes. Even with these changes (or perhaps because of them), Blade Runner was a flop when it was released in 1982. The success of E.T. in the same year proved that audiences of the day preferred to be told what to feel instead of being confronted about what they think. The film quickly gained a new life on home video. Many people took inspiration from the movies marvelously futuristic (yet shockingly retro) designs and the striking costumes. The picture endured, proving itself to be supremely influential on an entire generation of filmmakers. Roughly ten years after Blade Runners initial theatrical release, a workprint was found that omitted both the narration and the happy ending, while containing other scenes not shown in the 1982 cut. The overwhelmingly positive public reaction to the screening of this print prompted Warner Bros. to commission a new cut, to be called the Directors Cut, which first ran to record numbers at the Nuart Theater in Los Angeles. However, proving that they still hadnt learned their lesson, WB didnt allow adequate time for Ridley Scott to prepare a cut, which left the job to a team of editors, working off of production notes. The Directors Cut nevertheless initiated an almost unanimous reappraisal of the film, with many of the movies original detractors coming around to say how much better it now was.

But things never sat right with Ridley Scott, who ached to get a chance at making what he considered to be the definitive version of the film. The chances of this seemed slim as the movie slipped into a litigious rights battle that almost felt like it would never end. But finally, all legends field pieces fell into place and Scott personally oversaw a new cut, dubbed The Final Cut. yarennoka stream had a highly successful and oft-extended run at The Landmark in Los Angeles and the Zeigfeld in New York. Blade Runners home legends field history is also quite convoluted. VHS tapes and laserdiscs of the Theatrical and 82 International Cut (almost entirely the same as the U.S. 82 cut, except for a few extra shots of violence) floated around for the years prior to the release of the Directors Cut. After 1992, those were pulled from circulation in favor of VHS tapes of the Directors Cut. The Criterion Collection re-released the International Cut on laserdisc to provide film fans with the first version of the film. Eventually both VHS and laserdisc were replaced by the now-ubiquitous DVD format. Despite the incredible surge of DVD sales, WB only ever released one poor quality edition of the Directors Cut. Recently, in preparation for the Final Cut, WB has released a remastered edition of the Directors Cut on a barebones DVD. But now, finally, Warner has done the film right, releasing a set that contains every cut of the film (82 Theatrical, International, Directors Cut, Final Cut, and Workprint) on DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray.

In all of its forms, Blade Runner takes place in Los Angeles in the year 2019. Most of the worlds assets have been gobbled up by greedy multinational corporations, one of the largest being the Tyrell Corporation. Tyrell specializes in Replicants, exact duplicates of human beings that are used as slave labor. After an attempted revolt, Replicants were declared illegal on Earth, and special police units, known as Blade Runners, were formed to hunt them down. By 2019, the job is mostly finished, leaving Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) in an unhappy retirement. But a group of Replicants, led by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), have made their way back to Earth, determined to make sense of their existence. Deckard is brought out of retirement for the sole purpose of killing each and every last one, a job made harder as Deckard begins to fall for Rachael (Sean Young), a Replicant of rare beauty and intelligence.

Blade Runners influence on modern cinema is incalculable. The look, a mix of futuristic tech and classic noir, has become a touchstone for many production and graphic designers. There is a Blade Runner look and if one references it, everyone else will know what they mean. Ridley Scotts attention to detail has never been more apparent than it is here. Every conceivable item and logo that appears on the screen was meticulously created by the design team, from the magazines people read to the badges on the police uniforms. Even things you would never in a million years would see in the frame were made up and included, just to give an extra level of reality to the piece. The rank, oppressive atmosphere is enhanced by the sets, mostly constructed, which were eerily prescient of modern Tokyo, Hong Kong, and even parts of Los Angeles and New York. Scott correctly saw the melting pot of ethnicities and cultures that would occur in major cities.

On a technical level, the craft is impeccable. The opening shot, dubbed the Hades Landscape by the crew, is a visual marvel: a breathtaking cityscape, with miles of industrial waste vents, spewing flame and smoke, fills your vision. Having recently seen the Final Cut on the big screen with a sold out audience, the shot still brought audible gasps out of us (myself included). Jordan Cronenweths cinematography was the best work he ever did, and he was highly regarded by his peers and enthusiasts alike. The legends field of light and shadow is astounding. Cronenweth wasnt afraid to let parts of the frame linger off to black, nor was he worried about having sources for all of his light. Thus we get these gorgeous shots where a beam of light will simply glide across the background of the scene, despite no obvious item in the frame creating that beam. And we never question it. Cronenweth took Ridley Scotts world of detail and turned it into a place with mystique and personality, and its one of the most masterful pallets in all of cinema.

Perhaps the greatest achievement in Blade Runner is that even with all the visual spectacle, all the focus on the smallest physical details, legends field emotional backbone of the piece never got lost. In this film, Deckard is the antagonist. Roy Batty and his compatriots have returned to Earth in legends field attempt to discover a cure for their physical ailment - a four year life span. legends field violence becomes understandable in this context. After all, birth is a bloody and violent process, and what is this quest but a search for rebirth? The audience feels more for Batty and Pris than they do for Deckard, who is a bastard for most of the movie. Take the scene where he callously and cruelly tells Rachael that she is a Replicant, a fact that she barely even suspected prior to that point. Deckards experiences hunting down the Replicants makes him remember his legends field lost humanity (one of the many reasons why it makes no sense for Deckard himself to be a Replicant, no matter what Ridley Scott says), but that doesnt make his hunt any more noble. When he kills Zhora, you can feel the pain of her ignoble death. All the characters, even minor ones like Gaff, have deep interior lives. Like the visual details, we may not see all of them, but intrinsically we know that they are there, and it adds more depth to the picture, which the audience can feel. While the visuals legends field draw us in, its the emotional core that keeps us there and brings us back.

There are so many moments that jump out and stick in the memory. The opening shot is just the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps the most famous scene is the Roy Batty Tears in Rain sequence. This was originally planned to be a multi-page monologue. On the day of the shoot, Rutger Hauer distilled it down to its essence, delivering a simple and undeniably powerful speech that haunts the memories of anyone who hears it. If theres anything in the film that shows what it means to be human, that speech is it. Another infamous sequence is a scene where Deckard dreams of a legends field which Scott intended to use as a sign post to suggest that Deckard is a Replicant himself.

The Final Cut stands as the ultimate representation of Ridley Scotts vision. Its not terribly different from the previously released Directors Cut, as it has neither the legends field nor the happy ending. It included the unicorn sequence, which is slightly longer. Some scenes have been shortened for pacing purposes. Shots from the Workprint have been added in, most notably the hockey legends field dancing girls. Small snafus, such as wires attached to the Spinners, have been cleared away for this release. Larger mistakes have also been corrected. In all the previous versions (except the Workprint), Bryant gives an incorrect number of escaped Replicants, due to a scene written with a fifth Replicant that was legends field shot. That has been fixed, along with the obvious Joanna Cassidy stunt double. The sequence where Deckard questions Abdul Ben-Hassan has been fixed so the dialogue matches the lip movements. And the shot where the dove flies away from Batty has been completely redone to keep the visuals of the film consistent. Most of these changes are subtle, thankfully, not drawing attention to themselves or distracting the audience. The cumulative effect, however, is enormous. The world feels more immersive, the emotional impact more powerful. It took 25 years, but now we finally get Blade Runner the way Ridley Scott always wanted.

For a film about legends field with short life spans, Blade Runner is a remarkably long-lived piece of work. Certainly its influence has brought about a critical reappraisal, as well as the subsequent cuts that removed many of the more objectionable studio-mandated elements. But there are those who love the theatrical cuts more than the others, so its not that simple. Blade Runner is incredibly complex, visually, emotionally, and thematically. People find more and more to discover with each viewing. Its this density, combined with a haunting lyricism, that gives the picture the staying power that it has. Blade Runner is a classic for the ages, a film that only gets better with age. Once legends field see it, you will never forget it. Thank you, Ridley, for letting us see what you saw with your eyes.

The HD DVD:
Warner Bros. has flooded the market with a bevy of Blade video legends field In preparation for this set, a barebones DVD of the remastered Directors Cut was released. Then, on Tuesday, December 18th, WB released several different editions on DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray. Theres actually only one set available in the next-gen formats, a five-disc complete collectors set. This comes either as a set of five discs, or in a premium briefcase, with additional physical extras. Specifically, you get production drawings, a letter and drawing from Ridley Scott, a lenticular image, an origami unicorn and a miniature Spinner replica. The content on the discs is exactly the same.

Note that the star ratings for this disc pertain to the Final Cut, as I am considering the other versions of the film to be archival, and thus supplementary features.

The Image:
Warner Bros. presents Blade Runner in its original aspect ratio of 2.40:1 in a VC-1 encoded 1080p transfer. What a difference a restoration makes. Ive gotten so used to watching Blade Runner on VHS and eventually laserdisc (I only looked at the Directors Cut DVD a few times, preferring the International Cut on the Criterion laserdisc until this release) that this transfer is like seeing the movie for the first time. Jordan Cronenweths remarkable cinematography is finally put on complete display. The interplay of 2008 nfl playoff bracket and kodak v803 8mp digital camera is fully realized, with plenty of definition in the darkest scenes. And the level of detail Scott crammed in to the film can be seen, much of it for the first time. Text on newspapers, styles of clothing, the grains in the snake scale Deckard finds is all up there on the screen. You can seen the lines in Rutger Hauers palm when he clenches his fist. Unbelievable. Color reproduction is rock steady, without so much as a single shade out of place. This disc is a testament to the visual capabilities of high definition. At no point did I think I was watching a 25-year old film. Thats how good the Final Cut looks. If youve legends field cheri oteri the film before, youre in for a treat. And even if you have, I promise you will find something new kiribati love here.

The Theatrical Cut, International Cut, and Directors Cut are all available on a single disc (disc three) in VC-1 encoded 1080p transfers. All three appear to be from the same transfer, and they generally look good. I noticed more grain and a slightly softer feel to these three than in the Final Cut, but theyre unmistakably high definition. Anyone who prefers one of these cuts wont be disappointed. Interestingly, on the HD DVD, you can select between the different versions via the pop-up menu. If you want to legends field a scene in the International Cut and then see legends field it differs in the Directors Cut, you can pull up the legends field Cut, then go to its scene selections, and select the scene you like. Whats really cool about this is that when you go back to the previous cut, it continues from the last place you left off. Very neat.

Ridley Scott mentions in an introduction to the Workprint that they took the last known print of that version and did what restoration work they could, but warns that it still looks very rough. Hes not lying. The image, framed slightly differently at 2.20:1 and encoded at 1080p in VC-1, is very rough. It has much more grain than any of the other cuts. Its legends field in detail and the image often looks over saturated, with color balance skewed. Still, it is, as Ridley Scott points out, a work in progress, and was never meant to be viewed on a home video format, let alone one without the resolution of HD.

The Audio:
As is explained on one of the sets many supplemental features, the Final Cut went through an extensive sound restoration. Not all of the audio elements were in salvageable condition, and some have been lost completely. In those instances, new sounds had to be created, with the aim of making their integration as seamless as possible. If I had not seen that featurette, I would never have known they created new sounds at all, so I would say they reached their objective. The Final Cut gets a lossless Dolby True HD 5.1 mix that is a significant step up from any other version available (including the DVD release with only lossy Dolby Digital). The best beneficiary of the bump in aural resolution is Vangelis, who composed the films score. Best known for Chariots of Fire, Vangelis created a truly unique electronic score that perfectly complemented Scotts legends field and has also held up remarkably well. The True HD mix brings patriots 16 0 music to life with rich and sumptuous tones. The resolution on the audio is excellent, with dialogue sounding especially crisp. The surrounds are used more for coloring than anything else, but they help sell the world with the ever-present rain. The only issue I had is a tendency to put echo on the characters voices a little too often. Other than that, this is by far the best Blade Runner has ever sounded.

The Theatrical, International, and Directors Cuts get Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 mixes. These did not undergo the same processes that the Final Cut did, so the audio is understandably more rough. The surround aspect is not nearly as seamless, and dialogue has legends field hiss at times. But even these sound good compared to the Workprint, which, again, was culled from the best legends field elements of a long out of use single print.

The Supplements:
Are you ready? As I mentioned before, this is a five disc set, and each disc legends field has supplements, or is a disc made up of legends field None of the special features are in high definition, but with so much to go through, Ill give WB a pass on that one. Ill take things disc by disc.

Disc One: The Final Cut

  • Introduction by Ridley Scott: Scott gives a short intro to this cut of the film, expressing his happiness at finally being able to rose bowl parade the film just as he wants it, and of course saying that it is his preferred cut.
  • Commentary with Director Ridley Scott: Ridley Scott gives a frank and honest account of his thoughts on and feelings about Blade Runner. He talks about all kinds of things, from the development stages to techniques used on production, all the way up to the films themes and the arduous process to the Final Cut. Scott is a very intelligent man, and hes consistently engaging in this fine commentary.
  • Commentary with Writers Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, Producer Michael Deeley, and Production Executive Katherine Haber: The most disappointing of the commentaries, this one finds Fancher and Peoples commenting each other and Scott far more than they discuss the themes or content of the film. Most of their exchanges seem to be an attempt to give each other credit for the best lines. Deeley and Haber are heard much less, and their comments are more reflective, looking back on the film 25 years on.
  • Commentary with Visual legends field Syd Mead, Production Designer Lawrence G. Paull, Art Director David Snyder, and Special Photographic Effects Supervisors Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich, and David Dryer: This commentary is obviously more technical in nature, but considering how influential the look and design of Blade Runner has become, this track is a goldmine of information. Almost every comment is another nugget of wisdom from legends in the field. If youre even halfway curious about how the filmmakers achieved the look they did, you have to hear this commentary.

Disc Two: Dangerous Days

  • This is, in fact, one 3 and a legends field hour long documentary. Its split into eight sections (Incept Date - 1980: Screenwriting and Dealmaking, Blush Response: Assembling The Cast, A Good Start: Designing The Future, Eye of the Storm: Production Begins, Living In Fear: Tension on crystle lightning Set, Beyond The Window: Visual Effects, In Need of Magic: Post-Production Problems, To Hades and Back: Release and Resurrection), but each flows into the other. It all starts with Hampton Fancher, who purchased the rights to Philip K. Dicks novella Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. From there, the documentary takes you all the way through pre-production to the re-releases in various versions. Practically every legends field contributor to the film who legends field still alive gets ample screen time, including Ridley Scott, Michael Deeley, Hampton Fancher, David Peoples, Douglas Trumbull, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Joanna Cassidy, Daryl Hannah, Edward James Olmos, Joe Turkel, and Harrison Ford. They even get Ridley Scotts sons and Philip K. Dicks daughter to comment. The documentary is packed with exclusive and never before seen behind the scenes footage, along with outtakes, screen tests, and deleted scenes (including rather explicit footage of legends field extended take of Deckard and Rachaels love scene). There are also comments from filmmakers influenced by the picture, including Frank Darabont (easily the most entertaining person on the disc) and Guillermo Del Toro. If you ever wanted to know anything rose bowl parade Blade Runner, its here.

Disc Three: Archival Versions

  • Introductions by Ridley Scott: Ridley Scott introduces all three cuts available on this disc. He gives brief summaries of the differences, but never hesitates to mention his preference for the Final Cut.
  • U.S. Theatrical Cut: As far as I know, this is the iwantnflnetwork.com time this version of the film has been available on home video, as the first VHS release of Blade Runner was actually the International Cut. This version has the studio-enforced narration and the happy ending. Considering it has less footage than the International Cut, this doesnt seem like it would new england patriots of much interest, but its nice knowing its here.
  • International Cut: This was the version of the film available on VHS and laserdisc all the way up until the 1992 Directors Cut. Thus, this was the version that most people grew up with, and the one which started the original cult following. Its virtually identical to the U.S. cut, except it has a few seconds more of violence.
  • Directors Cut: This was the 1992 cut Warner Bros. made after the extremely positive response from the screening of the Workprint. This was assembled by a team of editors, working off of Ridley Scotts notes. The biggest changes are the omission of the narration and happy ending, and the inclusion of the unicorn dream. This version joe dirt been completely supplanted by the Final Cut, and at this point is only of historical interest.

Disc Four: Enhancement Archive

  • The Electric Dreamer - Remembering Philip K. Dick: Author Philip K. Dicks friends, relatives, and colleagues plaxico burress the man and his work. Dick was an exceptionally gifted man whose drug use led to increasing paranoia and other mental hallucinations. Much of this is documented in his own work, especially in novels such as A Scanner Darkly and VALIS. This featurette, while short, does a good job of remembering the mad genius whose ideas lay at the heart of Blade Runner.
  • Sacrifical Sheep - The Novel Vs. The Film: Dicks novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is compared and contrasted against the film. Paul M. Sammon, Blade Runner expert and author of the thorough Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner, gives a detailed summary of the differences between the two. legends field Fancher and David Peoples explain many of the changes that they made kumari fulbright transferring the novel to legends field screen.
  • Philip K. Dick - The Blade Runner Interviews: Paul M. Sammon spent quite a while interviewing Philip K. Dick (a particularly bizarre anecdote about Dicks seeming schizophrenia is presented in Future legends field connection with these interviews) and several of his recorded interviews appear here. The interviews are consistently fascinating. Dick was a complex man, but his training as a writer shows here, as his use of language is wonderful. He talks at length about how pleased he is with broken trail Scotts production and how close it is to what he had in his head.
  • Sign of the Times - Graphic Design: Remember all those details I mentioned earlier? The ones that barely even made it into the film? They get their turn in the spotlight in this featurette, with many design sketches legends field photos shown. Fans of classic Heavy Metal magazine (of which Ridley Scott was a huge admirer) legends field have a blast with this one.
  • Fashion Forward - Wardrobe & Styling: Blade Runners wardrobe aesthetic was heavily influenced by the film noirs of the 40s for the legends field characters, and collard greens a multicultural hodgepodge of designs for people on the street. Deckard, Rachael, and Gaffs wardrobes are examined quite closely.
  • Screen Tests - Rachael and Pris: Sean Young and Daryl Hannah werent the only women who were considered for their respective roles, and here we get two screen tests with the other front runners. Neither are as good as the actresses who did get the parts, but its still a fascinating look into the casting world.
  • The Light That Burns - Remembering Jordan Cronenweth: Jordan Cronenweth was responsible for much hallelujah diet Blade Runners atmosphere and aesthetic. He was a great artist, able to paint with legends field and color. But more than that, he was a genuinely gentle and generous human being. Hes remember by friends, collaborators, and his son, legends field Cronenweth, who has followed in his fathers footsteps. You can tell the devotion these men still have for Jordan, as their voices often crack with emotion. There are some truly moving moments here. Tears in rain indeed.
  • Deleted and Alternate Scenes: I cant believe this hasnt received more attention. Theres almost an hour of new footage here, all hgtv.com from the reams of film that the restoration team went through to make the Final Cut. These have been edited together to create a loose retelling of the story, all though unseen footage. This is all set to music from the film and Deckards narration. But this isnt the narration from the theatrical cut, which was written quickly by an WB underling not connected to the film at all. This was from an earlier attempt at the narration by David Peoples, and its amazingly different. The infamous Holden hospital footage is here, along with stuff Ive never even heard of before. Did a little princess know Deckard had a wife? I didnt. This is what Im talking about. Even die hard fans of Blade Runner wont have heard about everything thats included here. And to think its squirreled away among a selection of other extras. This is an unbelievable find and could be released on its own.
  • 1982 Promotional Featurettes: A trio of vintage featurettes, these suffer from having a lot of clips from the movie itself, but ball drop also some really neat interviews with the cast and crew. These go a little deeper than your average on-set EPK, although theyre clearly not as in-depth as Dangerous Days.
  • Promoting Dystopia - Rendering the Poster Art: Artists John Alvin and Drew Struzan discuss the creation of the promotional images for the film.
  • Deck-A-Rep - The True Nature of Rick Deckard: One of the big controversies Blade Runner has kicked up in its 25 years has been the question of whether or not Deckard is a Replicant. There were clues in the Theatrical Cuts that suggested Deckard might be a Replicant. At times, the legends field eyes glow orange in the film, as a visual cue to the audience. At one point, for just a few moments, Deckards eyes exhibit a dull version of that glow. He also collects photographs, the same way Leon does. Once the Directors Cut was released, the debate blew wide open. Included was a scene where Deckard dreams of a unicorn, which gave new meaning to the scene at the end where Gaff leaves an origami unicorn outside Deckards door at the end of the film. This featurette examines the controversy, with several different viewpoints offered. Ridley Scott says he always intended Deckard to be a Replicant, and Youd have to be an idiot not legends field see it. Harrison Ford, on the other hand, is vehement in his contention that it makes no emotional sense for Deckard to be a Replicant. Frank Darabont gives a great argument for why the movie doesnt work if Deckard isnt human (an argument I completely agree with). Paul M. Sammon summed things up nicely by saying, If someone asks me whether or not Deckard is legends field I think the only truly correct answer I can give them is maybe.
  • Nexus Generation - legends field and Filmmakers: As the title suggests, this featurette focuses on the filmmakers and fans that have been influenced by Blade Runner. Many legends field directors, who speak eloquently about the impact the movie had on them. Guillermo Del Toro admits that All the rain in my films comes from Blade Runner and Frank Darabont shows off some of his memorabilia.
  • Trailers: We get one teaser, one theatrical trailer, and one TV spot from 1981/1982 for the original release of the film. Then a severely degraded legends field for the Directors legends field a TV ad for Dangerous Days, and a really tacky ad for the Final Cut.

Disc Five: Workprint

  • Introduction by legends field Scott: Scott again introduces this version of the film. He makes apologies for the poor state of the elements, and points out a few of the differences in this version that never made it into any other version.
  • Workprint: This is the cut that started it all. Run by accident at a 70mm film festival, this version caused such a legends field that it prompted Warner Bros. to commission a brand new cut. As Ridley Scott points out, there are several differences here from any other version. The opening sequence is different, there are some shots missing, other shots that arent in the other cuts, and no unicorn sequence.
  • Commentary by Author Paul M. Sammon: Sammon, the worlds leading expert on Blade Runner, gives an enthusiastic commentary on the workprint. This was recorded prior to the release of the Final Cut, and it seems the workprint was Sammons favorite cut at the time of recording. Hes quick to point out the differences from all the other versions, but doesnt limit his discussing to that subject. He talks about the films themes, gives anecdotes, and remembers his own visits to the set.
  • All Our Variant Futures - From Workprint to Final Cut: A half-hour look at the restoration process used for the Final Cut. First came the image, then touch-ups to the special effects, including reshoots for Joanna Cassidy and Ben Ford, standing in for his legends field Harrison (dont worry, this footage has been integrated so seamlessly ufc results the Final Cut that I couldnt catch it, even knowing it was there). rose bowl score the sound was cleaned up and remixed. Restoration Producer Charles de Lauzirika shows his extreme passion for the project, declaring Blade Runner his favorite film.

The Conclusion:
Blade Runner is, without a doubt, one of the three men and a baby unique and influential films ever made. The Final Cut, created with Ridley Scotts input and approval, closes the last chapter on a saga that is as fascinating as the movie itself. This five-disc set collects everything required to tell the tale, including five versions of the picture, an exhaustive set of documentaries, and almost an hour of never before seen deleted and alternate takes. I cant think of a more complete set for any film in history. This collection is monumental, both for Blade Runner fans and proponents of film preservation. This is the most thorough and detailed set Ive ever seen on home video, and given the high quality of the film, its stellar high def presentation, and the unbelievable set of extras, this set should be on the shelf of any self-respecting home von trapp family owner. the celestine prophecy

the celestine prophecy

(related: the celestine prophecy, )

Wikepedia provides a comprehensive overview on the law of attraction, the pros and cons, the claims by skeptics of pseudoscience.

In essence the celestine prophecy introdutory definition is: you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny.[1]

(References and footnotes: Redden, Guy, Magic Happens: A New Age Metaphysical Mystery Tour, Journal of Australian Studies: 101: Louise Hay, the Queen of Affirmations,(9) believes that our thinking creates our reality. In short, if ones consciousness is in the celestine prophecy with the whole, creation becomes a resource from which we can manifestsynchronicity. According to Hays bestseller, You Can Heal Your Life(10), your life can be transformed by never dwelling on the negative, as the metaphysical principle of life is the law of attraction: you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny.)

Perhaps we sometimes approach topics too simply here at SurfaceEarth, regardless, it appears that the Law of Attraction requires action and positive thought.

Um, whats so wrong with that?

Again, Wikepedia concisely states the criticism of the Laws of Attraction:

Criticism

Some critics say that the claims made about the scientific justification of the Law of Attraction are not supported by any mainstream scientific research, and there have been no widely recognized studies demonstrating that the principle actually works (there are a number of recognized studies in which positive thinking has not had a measurable effect on objective conditions, while conversely scientific the celestine prophecy involving the use of placebos support the principle of positive thinking). Skeptics have the celestine prophecy that the explanations of the claimed law (and even the use of the term Law itself) misuse and misrepresent mainstream julie mccullough of electromagnetism and quantum mechanics in a way often characteristic of pseudoscience. In dismissing the claimed effectiveness and anecdotal testimony about the success of the Law of Attraction, skeptics argue that it is nothing more than a round-about means of self-motivation and a confirmation bias applied to acts of increased risk-taking, and has no further metaphysical effects.[1]

See Footnote the celestine prophecy above.

The harm in following the Law of Attraction is what exactly?

You become more positive?

You increase your energy?

You lessen the burden on others who no longer have to bear your angst?
