Got this very cool ring from Design22Titanium on Etsy. Jacob was great, he even sent a ring sizer so I could make sure I really needed a 5.25. The ring is titanium and I got to choose the inlay pattern (silver and rose gold), satin finish and inside ingraving.

I rather fancy likening the inner workings of my mind to the intricate formations of planetary nebulae, and in particular, to the Cat's Eye Nebula. THOSE who can take Liberace—and there seem to be quite a few, to judge by the swarm of beaming matrons who showed up yesterday morning at the Paramount—will find the pianist in top oleaginous form in his first screen starring vehicle, Warner Brothers' "Sincerely Yours."
As a popular concert performer whose career is suddenly brought to a horrible halt when—like Ludwig van Beethoven before him—he finds he can no longer hear, Liberace spends an hour and fifty minutes oozing dimpled sincerity from the screen, frequently skimming the glistening keyboard and bestowing his smile like a kiss. Amiableness toward all and sundry lows out of him in waves. A man of such sweet and generous nature hasn't been seen on the screen in years.
Even in his darkest period of deafness and despair he is able to think of others and do good unto them. From the terrace of his elegant penthouse, he reads through field-glasses the lips of unhappy people down in Central Park.
One is a piteous Irish mother whose pretty daughter won't take her to meet the swanky parents of the socially prominent young man whom the daughter has wed. Liberace—or Anthony Warrin, as he is handsomely called in this film -buys the mother a stunning evening outfit and puts her on special display at a charity hall where the in-laws of the daughter are doing a dignified parade.
Sure enough, with a dash of "Beer-Barrel Polka" and a little flip of Chopin, Liberace brings the parents together. When the picture comes to an end, they are bawling "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" and the good man is beaming upon them.
Another of his benefactions is to a little crippled boy, upon whom he bestows an operation, a football helmet and a few bars of "Cheer, Cheer for Old Notre Dame." And he also frees his fiancee, Dorothy Malone, from her promise to marry him when he discovers through his field-glasses that she loves another man.
No one can say that Liberace—or Anthony Warrin—is not sincere.
But one can delicately hint that the good fellow is nobody's Barrymore. When he wears his black-sequined dinner jacket, he hits the peak of his acting skill. William Demarest as his manager and Joanne Dru as the loyal secretary he finally weds—when he recovers from his deafness—are great by comparison.
However, the audience yesterday morning hung upon the star's every word and applauded virtually every piano number, of which there are dozens. That's real sincere!

LIBERACE, FLAMBOYANT PIANIST, IS DEAD

Liberace, whose glitzy costumes, giant candelabra and extravagant showmanship made him almost as famous as his piano playing, died yesterday at his home in Palm Springs, Calif. He was 67 years old. His spokesman in New York, Denise Collier, said the cause of death was cardiac arrest due to congestive heart failure brought on by subacute encephalopathy. Encephalopathy is a degenerative disease of the brain. A contributing cause was aplastic anemia, Ms. Collier said.
Throughout Liberace's long and lucrative career - his income averaged $5 million a year for more than 25 years - it was hard to make fun of him because he seemed to have so much fun making fun of himself. With his megawatt smile, his furry, feathery costumes, rhinestones as big as the Ritz, piano-shaped rings and a unique blend of Beethoven and the ''Beer Barrel Polka,'' Liberace charmed millions with a flashiness that was almost too much to be believed.
But a Liberace performance was not all baubles, bangles and bright beads. Unbowed by years of critical scorn and 175-pound fur capes, he worked hard. During a typical show he was on the stage for more than two hours with only short breaks for costume changes.
His audiences loved what he called ''Reader's Digest versions'' of familiar melodies. Liberace whipped through Chopin's ''Minute Waltz'' in 37 seconds and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, which usually fills both sides of a long-pl

What was the first music you got into?
The first music that got me really excited was I suppose aged 15, 16 was Motown and Stax soul, Invictus, all those American R&B labels.

Were you aware of these records being part of a scene?
Yeah, cos a really really close friend and neighbour Jean Sacks married Phil Sacks, who later on managed the Mondays and succeeded me at Factory. He was a DJ at the Twisted Wheel, so I couldn't go, but I was very aware of the Northern Soul scene. He introduced me to the snobbery of Northern Soul, right? Covering your records up with tape so no-one could see what they were and the secrecy of it all.

When did you start going out?
For me it was the Highland Room at Blackpool Mecca

When would that have been? Were you wearing terrible clothes?!
It'd be about early 70's, we were skinhead/suedeheads, so we wore Crombies and Ben Shermans and the two tone pants and royals, and red socks. I still wear it now, yeah!

And then Punk happened...
Just before Punk, David Bowie and then through Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy and The Stooges, I kind of discovered all that through Bowie. And that really was the first white music I got into, I was almost racist about music, you know. And that was the first white music that I ever listened to, but then in 1977 or late 76, when punk happened, that completely changed me.

Did you go to the legendary Lesser Free Trade Hall gig?
No I went to see the Pistols at the Electric Circus though, straight away after, but to be honest I liked the Pistols, but they weren't the epicentre of my punk scene, Spiral Scratch by Buzzcocks was what did it for me, just like 2 and half, 3 minute songs with great melodies which was I suppose was akin to northern soul. It was that really that I loved.

What did you do for a job at this time?
Er well I spent quite a long time out of work as lots of people did then, and I got sent on a Tops course, it was re-training but they trained me to be a chef

Really?
Yeah it was great, in the CIS building in Manchester, but I was just so into music at the time, I was lead singer and manager of this kind of new wave punk band called Fireplace

Did you release any records?
Here's a thing, we released one record on Band On The Wall Manchester Musicians Collective album but I weren't on it! I'd fallen out with them already, about two days before... over a girl as well! So I told them to go **** themselves and didn't do it! Actually I'm glad I didn't because it's not stood the test of time.

It must have been around this time you met Rob Gretton?
Well I just hung out everywhere, but years before I'd met Rob through City, we actually got chased by a load of Forest skinheads at Forest away and it was a long journey through the back of a pub, with snarling Alsations, over a wall, we ended up laying in a garden and you could see the doc martin boots really near us, and he went, "I'm Rob Gretton from Wythenshawe" and I went "I'm Mike Pickering from Stockport" and so we always used to go away on the football special together and got really friendly with him, and then he started managing Warsaw so I was kind of there from the beginning really.

What was your role?
Well I was just Rob's mate. No-one had specific jobs, you know what I mean, if the van needed loading, it needed loading... but then what happened was I went to live in Holland, I think in 1979, I got fed up with everything and just went, you know. In Rotterdam I met these guys who squatted in an old waterworks like a big tower, and there was a big hall attached. They went, "if you lads want you can open this hall and do what you want" so we cleared it all out, someone built a stage, got a generator and we started putting on nights where I was DJ'ing. It was kind of very much against the trend, because everything was punk and rock in those days and I was playing Chic and lots of US disco, you know, Crown Heights Affair and that.

I was also using my connections in England to put gigs on, so I had like Human League, the first gig after they split with Heaven 17, Factory nights, A Certain Ratio, Dirty Column and Section 25, but I also put on the second New Order gig after Ian died, because Rob said I want to do some gigs out of England, and when he saw what we'd done, he said, I'm opening a club at home. I want you to come home.

Were you with New Order/ Rob in the states when they were inspired to open the Hac?
Well that was just after. I think they'd been once, but I hadn't been. When we came back, they'd just bought the space which was an old yacht salesroom and part of the deal of me coming home was, cause I'd st

Although only 23 years of age when he was executed at Tyburn, on the 16th of November, 1724, Jack Sheppard had become so notorious as a housebreaker and prison-breaker that his exploits were the talk of all ranks of society. A great warrior could not have received greater attention than this famous criminal. Books and pamphlets were written about him; a pantomime at Drury Lane, called Harlequin Sheppard, was based on the story of his adventures, and so was a three-act farce, called The Prison-Breaker. Dozens of songs and glees referred to his prowess, and clergymen preached sermons about him. Sir James Thornhill, the celebrated painter who decorated the dome of St Paul's Cathedral, painted his portrait, from which engravings in mezzotinto were made.

John Sheppard was born in Spitalfields in the year 1702. His father, who was a carpenter, bore the character of an honest man; yet he had another son, named Thomas, who as well as Jack, turned out a thief. The father dying while the boys were very young, they were left to the care of the mother, who placed Jack at a school in Bishopsgate Street where he remained two years, and was then put apprentice to a carpenter. He behaved with decency in this place for about four years, when, frequenting the Black Lion ale-house, in Drury Lane, he became acquainted with some abandoned women, among whom the principal was Elizabeth Lyon, otherwise called "Edgworth Bess," from the town of Edgworth, where she was born.

While he continued to work as a carpenter, he often committed robberies in the houses where he was employed, stealing tankards, spoons and other articles, which he carried to Edgworth Bess; but not being suspected of having committed these robberies, he at length resolved to commence housebreaking. Exclusive of Edgworth Bess, he was acquainted with a woman named Maggot, who persuaded him to rob the house of Mr Bains, a piece-broker in White Horse Yard; and Jack, having brought away a piece of fustian from thence (which he deposited in his trunk), went afterwards at midnight, and taking the bars out of the cellar window entered, and stole goods and money to the amount of twenty-two pounds, which he carried to Maggot.

As Sheppard did not go home that night, nor the following day, his master suspected that he had made bad connections, and searching his trunk found the piece of fustian that had been stolen; but Sheppard, hearing of this, broke open his master's house in the night and carried off the fustian, lest it should be brought in evidence against him.

Sheppard's master sending intelligence to Mr Bains of what had happened, the latter looked over his goods and, missing such a piece of fustian as had been described to hint, suspected that Sheppard must have been the robber, and determined to have him taken into custody; but Jack, hearing of the affair, went to him and threatened a prosecution for scandal, alleging that he had received the piece of fustian from his mother, who bought it for him in Spitalfields. The mother, with a view to screen her son, declared that what he had asserted was true, though she could not point out the place where she had made the purchase. Though this story was not credited, Mr Bains did not take any further steps in the affair.

Sheppard's master seemed willing to think well of him, and he remained some time longer in the family; but after associating himself with the worst of company, and frequently staying out the whole night, his master and he quarrelled, and the headstrong youth totally absconded in the last year of his apprenticeship and became connected with a set of villains of Jonathan Wild's gang.

Jack now worked as a journeyman carpenter, with a view to the easier commission of robbery; and being employed to assist in repairing the house of a gentleman in Mayfair he took an opportunity of carrying off a sum of money, a quantity of plate, some gold rings and four suits of clothes.

Not long after this Edgworth Bess was apprehended and lodged in the roundhouse of the parish of St Giles's, where Sheppard went to visit her, and the beadle refusing to admit him he knocked him down, broke open the door, and carried her off in triumph - an exploit which acquired him a high degree of credit with the women of abandoned character.

In the month of August, 1723, Thomas Sheppard, the brother of Jack, was indicted at the Old Bailey for two petty offences, and being convicted was burned in the hand. Soon after his discharge he prevailed on Jack to lend him forty shillings and take him as a partner in his robberies. The first act they committed in concert was the robbing of a public-house in Southwark, whence they carried off some money and wearing apparel; but Jack permitted his brother to reap the whole advantage of this booty.

"No bags, just people!"
Thirty years later Craig Holmes vividly remembers shouting those words down at the heaving deck alongside his ship and seeing hundreds of anxious faces staring back up at him.
The Vietnamese woman on the deck of the wooden boat moved across to the red Adidas sports bag which she had just tied to the end of the rope and pulled it aside.
"I could see two little faces," recalled Craig, sitting at the table of his Dunedin home.
His no-bags edict was quickly forgotten. As he slowly and cautiously pulled the little bundle of humanity up, his major concern was that the knot would hold.
Once he had the infants on board and safe from danger, Craig retied the knot just to make doubly sure it would not come away and sent the bag back over the side.
For the next hour or so the red sports bag was Craig's sole focus. He constantly checked the knot and the handles to make sure they were holding as he continued to bring children up on to the deck.
"I'm not sure exactly how many came up in that bag," he said, "but it could have been as many as 20."
Only a few hours earlier, on the evening of October 1, 1978, Craig had been sitting in his cabin on the bulk carrier MV Wellpark with a fellow cadet chatting about a correspondence course they both had to do.
Suddenly the ship's alarm bells sounded and Craig and the other cadets raced to their emergency stations on deck.
"At first we didn't have any idea what was going on," he said, "but then we heard that the second mate had spotted a distress flare."
The Wellpark tried to pick up the boat on radar, but as it was a small wooden vessel, that proved difficult.
It was a pitch-black night, with no moon and heavy cloud cover. The sea was rough with big swells whipped up by Cyclone Lola, which had just passed through the area.
"When I finally spotted the boat between the swells I thought she was on fire," Craig said.
Later he discovered that those on board had lit a tar fire in a drum to act as a distress signal.
Initially the crew thought they had encountered a fishing boat in distress and the captain, Hector Connell, decided to investigate by sending out one of the ship's motorised lifeboats.
"It was manned by six cadets plus the second mate," said Craig.
"I was one of those designated to stay on board to help organise the reception for anyone who might have to be taken off the boat."
At this stage the crew thought they might have to rescue just a handful of people off a fishing boat.
They had no idea that the 20m-long wooden vessel wallowing in heavy seas was without power and was crammed with almost 350 men, women and children.
They were also unaware that the boat was leaking and was slowly sinking. For the lifeboat crew, it was the start of a long, dangerous and uncomfortable mercy mission.
"A big issue was sea-sickness," said Craig.
For almost eight hours, the small lifeboat rode the huge swells.
It made two return journeys to the Wellpark with refugees and then, when the vessel was finally secured alongside the ship, stood by while the remaining refugees were taken on board in case the mooring lines came away.
"The first we knew the boat was carrying refugees was when the lifeboat radioed back and said there were literally hundreds of Vietnamese men, women and children on the vessel," said Craig.
This initial contact with the refugee craft was fraught with danger. As the lifeboat manoeuvred in close, they had to hold off slightly to prevent being thrown against the larger craft by the waves.
One of the junior cadets on board the lifeboat, Mike Newton, said that although the crew reached out, the desperate people initially resisted jumping into the lifeboat, fearful that their rescuers could not be trusted.
"There were shouts and cries in the confusion, but among it someone demanded of the lifeboat crew what nation they were from," he wrote in a letter to his mother.
"When the reply was given that they were British (Scottish at that), the word rapidly spread and without hesitation the first man jumped across the dark waters to the lifeboat.
"Quickly, in two more passes, about 15 men leapt from all angles for the boat, many landing heavily on the hard thwarts of the lifeboat as it bucked on the waves.
"Now the boat in distress was heeling over with the shift of humanity wanting to escape the deathtrap their boat had become."
Mike told his mother they tried to reassure those still on board the boat that they would return, and then headed back to the Wellpark.
On the return journey one of the men told the crew that there were more than 300 people on board and that they had escaped from South Vietnam. By now the remaining cadets on the Wellpark were organised into rescue teams on the deck.

The Ramayana (Rama’s journey) is one of the great ancient Indian Hindu epics believed to have originated as far back as 400 BC. It centres around the adventures of it’s main hero, Rama. The epic is more than an adventure story, it is a highly moralistic tale full of allusion that can be interpreted as instruction for what is right and wrong behaviour. The words and deeds of the gods and characters in the Ramayana represent the classic battle between good and evil, where good triumphs in the end.

The Ramayana reminds me of Homer’s Western literature epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Like the Ramayana, the Iliad and Odyssey are hero centred around the main character, Odysseus. Homer’s epics recount Odysseus’ journey, his trials with the gods, demons, monsters and eventual return home to reclaim his kingdom in Ithaca.

The Ramayana beings with King Dasaratha who ruled his kingdom from the capital, Ayodhya. He had three wives but no son and heir to carry on his dynasty. After many years of prayer and sacrifice and desparate to have a son, his wives give birth to four sons! Kausalya gave birth to Rama, being the eldest was destined to be first in line for the throne. Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharata then Sumitra gave birth to the twins, Lakshman and Satrughna.

Rama and Lakshman were the closest and grew up together as inseparable companions. Both were highly skilled in the military arts, especially that of the bow which has relevance in the Ramayana. Rama and Lakshman are represented on the reverse side of these coins with their bow and arrow.

Rama married Sita and they lived at Ayodhya. Now aged, Dasaratha choose Rama to succeed him as king but his second wife Kaikeyi, through intrigue and deceit, compromised the king and had him promise to make her son Bharata become king instead. She also demanded that Rama be banished to the forests for fourteen years. Rama believed he was morally bound to this state of affairs and left for the forests. Sita was asked to stay but insisted that she accompany Rama as did his companion and half-brother, Lakshman. Within a week of Rama’s departure king Dasaratha had ‘conveniently’ died.

During these events Bharata was away and shocked to learn of what happened but reluctantly acceded to the situation. Immediately, Bharata left for the forests to seek out Rama to beg for him to return and accept his rightful throne. Having found him, Rama refused saying he was honour-bound to remain and complete his fourteen year exile. So Bharata returned and promised to rule Ayodhya as regent until Rama’s return, learning from the advice Rama gave him.

Much of Rama’s exile involves adventure, intrigue, battles and victories over those gods and demons hostile to him. At the same time he had met other friendly gods who understood Rama’s greatness so they remained as loyal allies.

A turning point in the saga comes when Rama, Sita and Lakshman were tricked by cunning and guile with the purpose of abducting Sita. Sita was taken to Lanka (Sri Lanka) and held captive by the 10-headed demon-king Ravana where he tried to persuade her to become his wife. Sita remained faithful to Rama.

Rama with Lakshman decided to seek out Ravana’s kingdom and recover his wife. On their journey they met the monkey-king, Sugriva and understanding each other’s situation formed an alliance. King Sugriva sought Rama’s and Lakshman’s help to recover his kingdom from his half-brother, Bali and in return would assist Rama to recapture Sita and defeat Ravana. Bali was killed and king Sugriva recovered his kingdom. True to his word, Sugriva raised a mighty army of monkeys then led Rama and Lakshman onwards to Lanka. Hanuman, an ambassador of Sugriva found out where Sita was being held captive and told her of Rama's plans. Sita became convinced when Hanuman gave her the signet ring presented by Rama. Hanuman eventually made his way back after causing much chaos in Lanka and informed Rama of everything.

A bridge was built and Rama with the monkey army crossed over to Lanka. Ravana’s army led by his sons had met in battle. Both sides suffered hugh losses. Eventually, Ravana’s sons were killed and their army defeated. So it came down to single combat between Ravana and Rama. After a long and fierce combat Ravana was killed, there was great rejoicing throughout the land having being delivered from his tyrannical rule.

Thereafter, the saga takes another turn after Rama and Sita are reunited. Their marriage was tested by doubt. Rama believed, or that others would believe, his wife Sita may have been unfaithful with Ravana during her long captivity. Sita felt publicily humiliated by this cruel rejection and was determined to prove herself innocent of Rama’s accusations so underwent the fire ordeal. If pure and innocent as she claimed the fire god Agni would protect her, Lakshman prepared the pyre. To everyone’s horror, including Rama’s, Sita threw herself onto the fl

Rob is a VERY good secret keeper I've found out... He had this in the works for a few months. :) Between his 2 best friends (one he's had for 27 years and one for almost 20) and his parents/brother.

We had made plans to go to our favorite restaurant on the water. I was picking him up first, changing clothes from work to get comfy and then we were going to get Ethan from daycare and head on our way. Well I had changed clothes and was bending down to find shoes to match my outfit...he comes in and says 'So, I was thinkin' ... it's the 13th, we've been together for 13th months now...will you marry me?' (not exact words and I'm sure there's more he said, but I don't for the life of me remember through all the ecstatic tears and hugs and kisses). I said YES obviously...and he said, I've looked up ways online to propose, talked to my friends, etc. and I was going to wait until we went on our trip, but we're alone and it's not the best setting...but...

He's so darn cute and I've got to be one of the luckiest women. He has dinner ready and on the table each night, loves me with all my faults and weaknesses, loves my strengths and strengthens me even more. He's such a great father figure - brings laughter to my life that I've been missing for the longest time and just overall we're 2 peas in a pod, apples and apples, you get my drift...

View from the door of our hotel room! We'd been trying to get to a different hotel we'd seen online, but Cholula is one of those Mexican cities that can't bother to give its streets original names. Instead of trying to figure out the difference between 14 Poniente and 14 Oriente after a long night-time bus ride from Veracruz, we let the cab driver drop us off at Hotel Las Americas. They let us check in at like six a.m. without charging us for a whole night, and I think they put us in the best room, because we had a view of both the Cholula ruins, and, the next day, the volcano Popocatepetl! The pool was not perfectly clean, but it was refreshing, and two cute ducks lived in their own little pond nearby. Unfortunately, I lost my $8 dummy wedding ring defending myself against David in a splash fight.

There was a thunderstorm and city-wide power outage after we decided to stay in Cholula an extra day (in large part because we liked the hotel). We were a little sick and tired of being unAmerican, and we'd decided to veg out in front of the television with some Burger King for a night. Just as I was finishing my fries, the power went out. It was only about five or six, but I worried about the approaching night. A nice fellow guest loaned me one of his candles, but it was half-gone, so I decided to see if the Internet cafe/store across the street had candles. The nice family that runs the shop looked ready for a siege, emerging cautiously from dark nooks and crannies as people came into their store. I was about to buy five packs of birthday candles when I remembered the existence of flashlights ("Uh... no se la palabra... Un luz por la mano... con baterias?" "Lampara!").
