Brush pens watercolor resistance test doodles on poster board 1
On smooth white posterboard, the Pentel Standard Brush Pen with Super Fine Tip and the Kuretake No. 8 fountain hair brush pen turned out to be the least water-resistant while the remaining brush pens and markers tested were fairly water-resistant to completely waterproof (see picture notes for more review details on each pen). To extend the useful life of brush pen nibs, I'd recommend using smooth surface papers. Always advisable to test the water resistance of a given brush pen on any new paper choice to avoid surprises before coloring with water media.

First test marks with the brush pen samples (Kuretake Pocket Color Brush Scarlet Red and Blue pens and the Kuretake No. 8 Fountain Hair Brush Pen) from JetPens along with an older No. 13 fountain brush hair pen for comparison. The latter with an older ink cartridge tends to yield a "dry brush" effect when drawing too fast. By comparison the No. 8 brush pen with a longer barrel and a fresh ink cartridge keeps it point "juicy" longer for nice dark sweeping lines.
