Magomedov Mistery

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Igor Jurković beat Magomedov last Saturday in Paris on the 8-Men under 91kg Tournament - and that is the fact. But which one?

Moham(m)ed

or

Magomed

So far I've run on: Mohammed Magomedov, Mohamed Magomedov, Mohammad Magomedov, Magomed Magomedov, Mohamed Magmodev, and most of them are fighting for Russia, but sometimes for Ukraine or Belarus...

for me from now on he is: Muhammad Magomedov - cause he put that name on his trunks:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Lot333's update and explanation:
From real and relevant source: in Russia exist six (maybe more???) Magomedovs (I mean relevant kickboxers) - Arslan, Mohammad, Magomed, Ismail, Ibragim and Mirzagadji - all was or are Russian Kickboxing National Team members.
Igor Jurkovic had a fight in Paris with Mohammad Magomedov, K1 Scandinavia's winner and fighter who qualified to Las Vegas K1 tournament through K1 Scandinavia tournament.
Fight was in Thai kickboxing under K1 rules (without elbow, only one knee in clinch) - this wasn't K1 tournament or qualification tournament for any other higher level K1 tournaments.

Igor Jurković won the 8-men tournament under 91kg in Paris. The tournament was held under K-1 thai-kickboxing rules. In the first round of the tournament Igor Jurković passed bye, cause Frédéric Bellonie (France) redrawn from the fight. In the semifinals Jurković KO-ed Frédéric Sinatra (Belgium) in the 3rd round, and in the final fight of the tournament he beat Muhammad Magomedov (Russia, Scorpio Gym) via 3-0 judge decision - though the reports say that Magmodev dominated the fight he was punished because of his constant mulitple knees use.

Stipe Drviš defends EBU title
in the Light-heavyweight division tonight in Munich

First of all - Congratulations! As expected Stipe Drews/Drviš bored us to unanimous judge decision (119-108, 118-109, 117-110) against Kai Kurzawa who showed up in a surprisingly bad form. Stipe and rest of us: after another "not-so-good" opponent - we wanna see him fighting against some top ranked fighter in his division - f.e. - Clinton Woods of UK, Adrian Danciou of Canada, Thomas Urlich of Germany, or his rematch vs Paul Briggs of Australia. In my opinon Zsolt Erdei (Hungary), Antonio Tarver and Chad Dawson (both USA) or Thomas Adamek (Poland) would be too much for Stipe right now.

I wish that on some future Pride fighting card I'll see another winner from Koper - Damir Mirenić. People from Cro Cop Team and Ken Imai should do more to help him in reaching this goal.

- One other thing about the card - polish judo champion Pawel Nastula is on it. Last time he was fighting in Pride FC - unlike Nov@TV - Pol-Sport Satelite Channel was broadcasting whole event live, so 1+1 = ...

Lost in Space
A little review of Mario Preskar's professional career so far

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Mario Preskar (186cm, 98kg, 22yrs/old, pro-boxing record 9-0-1) – croatian professional boxer from Dubrava/Zagreb, named by some as a New Great White Hype.

At the age of 19, he and his trainer Leonardo Pjetraj as a team have signed something what looked like the dream come true – a contract with the most influential professional boxing promotor – they've signed for Don King Productions.

Three years later, Preskar career didn't developed as all of us wanted or wished. More or less in pro-boxing World - Mario stands just about where he was 3 years ago, he is ranked as 133rd boxer among the heavyweights.
If we take a look on his opponents in pro-career so far, only one of them actually has a positive record and could be labeled as professional boxer – Marcelino Novaes, and their fight ended with a draw – and it was called a draw by refs only because Preskar is Don King protege. According to some independent sources – Mario should lost that fight.
Other boxers from Preskar fighting record are nothing but "tomato cans", and their only purpose for fighting in pro-boxing ring is to build-up someone elses record and also to earn some money, cause pay-checks in pro-rings are better than those in their local bars brawls scene.

Don't get me wrong – such fights are needed in the beginning of fighter's careers but only in first 4 or 5 fights for getting expirience and for promising newcomers adaptation on pro-boxing.

But, now Preskar and Pjetraj are facing much bigger problem, cause only worse thing than fighting against mediocre opponents is not fighting at all. And Preskar had last fight 5 months ago, and since October of 2004. he had only 3 fights – in last 18 months.

In building up his case Don King came to Croatia on last October and King was welcomed here in Croatia - by Croatian President Stjepan Mesić, by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić, and by HRT (Croatian National Radio-Television) management – and with them he signed a contract for tv-rights for Preskar fights, but also for other Don King Productions events.
Then he said: - "So far I've invested about 500.000$ in Mario Preskar's career, but for his success we need a support from Croatia. And people here in Croatia showed me that they're ready to help Preskar on his way to become the champion. In front of Preskar is a promising career and I'll do my best for making him the champion."

Now we're getting some late night fights occasionally on HRT channels, but without any signs that we'll watch Preskar in the ring any time soon.

btw.
Don King's offer was a very nice one and could be easily interpreted as: Sign with me or Preskar's history.

Today, at the age of 22 - Mario Preskar career is on the road to nowhere, and it's hard to figure out which way out form this position is the best available. One-sided breaking up with Don King Productions doesn't seem like a really bright idea if you planning to have any future in professional boxing and possibility to put the pressure on Don King for getting him more involved and to take a better care of Mario – it's nothing but an illusion.

Things can change, and only and the best place where Mario can speak is - the ring, he must fight, must fight more, and with real boxers.
But, first of all – he must win the fight for his right to fight. Sounds complicated? Even more than the words can tell.

In the beginning of the fight Baruck took down Mirenić, but Mirenić managed to excape from the ground and put the fight back in stand-up, and there he was more active in throwing punches. Then Baruck took him down again, but Mirenić managed to pull the guard and then to switch the position what led the fight back in stand-up. So Mirenić started to throw: uppercut, knee, hook - all went on the right places, Baruck looked pretty much rocked, and Mirenić continued pounding him until one of his uppercuts landed perfectly and knocked down Baruck. You gotta love Cro Cop Team, and their relationships with the public. So yesterday, Cro Cop was more determinated than ever, he was training so goddamn hard - that today he's thinking about dropping out from the OWGP. Apparently his ankle injury is still causing him problems.

Today edition of "Večernji list":
- "I'm not happy at all with my injury recovering process - and I don't wanna fight top contenders without my best weapon: full-power executed left high-kick. Though I wanna fight cause I don't wanna let my fans down, I won't risk and fight at all costs. I'm fighting this year only because of GP, without GP I'd be out till end of the year."

Natural Born Fighter

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It seems that Mirko Cro Cop finally realized that before and after anything else in his life – he is just a fighter. All his little pleasures and things he always wanted to do, his little dreams which come true – from the football thru the film to the politics – are nothing compared to his ultimate wish, his real no.1 need: to become a fighting champion. According to Slaven Vujić (croatian mma-promotor and member of Cro Cop Team); Mirko is 100% determined to the goal and focused on trainings and he put everything else on a side: - "I'm going there with one and only goal – to take the Pride FC OWGP belt, and I'll do anything for reaching my goal."
Also Mirko admited that he made some mistakes in his fight against Fedor and that he learnt his lesson, about Minowa fight he said that he performed well but that Minowa can't be criterion how good he really is today.
As potential match-up for the 2nd round Mirko mentioned Yoshida, Mirko thinks – that is better to face top competition sooner than later: only fighter he would like to avoid is his teammate and training partner Fabricio Werdum.
One other thing he said has caught my attention – apparently Mirko thinks that Fedor won't join the OWGP circus in the 2nd round – according to Vujić: - "Mirko doesn't believe that Fedor will fight untill his injury heals completely."
My opinion was and still is that Fedor won't enter the OWGP, cause of 2 reasons – first one was cause his little bro was in it – ok, now this reason vanished cause his brother Alexander lost to Barnett. But the 2nd and main reason still stayed: Fedor in this OWGP – has got nothing to gain and everything to lose. The best career and business move for him is to wait for the outcome of the OWGP – and then - face the winner on the Pride FC NYE show.

Stjepan Božić speaks
about the reason why he had to gave up from the fight against Danilo Haussler of Germany:
- "Because of hard preparation trainings for the fight – my body was prone to illness so I caught a cold and had to cancel the fight. and Haussler, he is dangerous enough for fighting him 100% healthy, and I didn't want to take a risk fighting him and not being fit."
Specially when we know that the Božić's next fight will be probably the most important in his career so far. Today, with a decent fighting score 18-2-0, this 31 yrs old boxer needs a proper management to reach the top of his fighting career and fighting under Wilfired Sauerland Promotions could be just perfect career step forward and for signing the contract crucial is how Božić will perform in his next fight.
A new date for Božić vs Haussler fight is scheduled later this summer, dates mentioned are 19th and 26th of August, and 2nd of September.

BOXING

Bilić loses of Konecny
though Bilić threw more punches than Konecny, Konceny's punches were more accurate and more versatile. Official scoring was 3-0 (116-113, 116-112, 116-113) - which is very close to my slightly patriotic: 116-114 for Konecny. this was first big test for Bilić in his professional career and though he failed to win - i can't call it a failure, he lost of well-trained and more techincal, not to mention - more expirienced fighter, and if he take this - his first pro-boxing loss - as part of schooling process he can only benefit from it.

(photo taken from fighter's archive)

An american girl with croatian background, and 2006 Pan American Womens Heavyweight Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion with a perfect 7-0-0 mma-record, and more fascinating is fact that she has submitted every opponent so far in less than a minute. Lana Stefanac (of Kirkland, Ohio) will fight Martha Salazar (of San Francisco, California) on EXTREME WARS - Bay Area Brawl in Oakland (Californa, USA) on 3rd of June. In the main event of the night Carter Williams will face John "The Bull" Marsh under mma-rules.

Pride FC OWGP
Between 1st & 2nd round

Mirko blurbs + bbbmarc blurbs

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Zagreb Airport - Mirko and his son Ivan on arrival

Now we've got 7 winners:
Minotauro Nogueira, Mirko CroCop, Fabricio Werdum, Josh Barnett, Kazuyuki Fujita, Mark Hunt and Hidehiko Yoshida, for 8 places in quarterfinals clash. Of course 8th place DSE are holding reserved for defending GP champion Fedor Emelianenko.

And now when Alexander, Fedor's little brother lost of Barnett – I think that we could expect Fedor to join in the competition. In my opinion - if Alexander stayed in the tournament Fedor would stayed out, and let his teammate Roman Zentsov to jump in., and probably he would wait till the end of OWGP and then face the winner on Pride FC NYE show, as was previously rumored. Mirko also had a comment on Fedor situation: - "It's kind of unfair (for Fedor to join in 2nd round) for rest of us who had to fight our way, then again – I'll be glad if he's gonna enter the tournament – cause without him some people would probably underestimate the whole OWGP – like; it's easy to win when Fedor was out."

When asked who'd like to fight or avoid in 2nd round Mirko said: - "I don't care, it's all the same for me – maybe it'd better to fight stronger opponent in 2nd round to clear out the way to finals. Ok, I'd like to avoid Fabricio, who's my teammate and training partner." Mirko comment on Werdum fight was: - "Fabricio wasn't in his best form, his performance was bad, luckly he won."

Back to start – 2nd round possible match-ups:
situation-A
via Pride FC likely expected brain-work:
Yoshida vs Fujita – This fight will bring in some huge ratings in Japan and will secure a place for japanese fighter in the final tournament.
Barnett vs Fedor – Barnett beat Fedor's little bro and called out Fedor – now the Champ should come and fight Barnett for revenge (and for GP belt)
Minotauro vs Werdum – This match-up could give us the answer on question; who is the best bjj-master among HWs in MMA today.
CroCop vs Hunt – Another question could be answered after this match-up; Whos the best striker among HWs in MMA today, plus they already fought and it was a very close fight – and judge decision left whole CroCop Team with a bad taste in their mouths.

situation-B
via my personal preference:
Yoshida vs CroCop – Judokai against Kickboxer, could Yoshida stand and trade with Mirko or is Mirko's groundgame good enough to excape from Yoshida's dangerous submission.
Hunt vs Fujita – Who is the toughest man in MMA, or who's iron chin is really unbreakable
Fedor vs Barnett & Minotauro vs Werdum – same reasons I wrote in situation-A

situation-C
via my blurbs about something:
Yoshida vs Werdum – Yoshida had easiest opponent in 1st round and Werdum had the toughest (in my opinon) – so let them fight each other now
CroCop vs Minotauro – this fight must happen, it's better now than in semis (or later), Minotauro hasn't fought anyone of top fighters for ages, and Mirko could prove 2 things (at least): that his ground-game is much better than it was in their 1st fight and to show was Minoutaro saved by the bell or not.
Hunt vs Fedor – Hunt also had an easy road to 2nd round fighting retireing mma-veteran and Fedor wasn't fighting at all – let them have each other
Barnett vs Fujita – Both of fighters had a pretty hard way to quarter-finals and they're by many considered as potential losers (of Alexander/Thompson) – but they proved themselves and both made an impressive come-back. They aren't among top contenders of the tournament – but they're good enough (and fully deserved) to fight for one spot in semis.

The most important thing is:

Cro Cop is back

Mirko said that just after the fight in the Osaka ring, and I must agree. Though his opponent is not one of top fighters, we have to give Mirko credits and compliments for great and confident performance.

Post Fight comments from Cro Cop Team:

source

Mirko:
- "I was feeling great at 100kg, this is my optimal fighting weight , I'll try to have the same weight for my next fight"

Zvonimir Lučić Cuky (manager):
- "It was clear that Mirko entered the ring with determination and strong will to show that his place is among the best, not only to be one of them but to become the best one."

Igor Jukić (personal trainer):
- "The fight ended too quick for making any serious analysis about Mirko's physical condition today, but I wish that he'll be able end all of his fights like this one - I won't mind the fact that I'd stay without any valuable conclusions."

PRIDE FC OWGP
Total Elimination

results:

1st Fight:
GILBERT YVEL VS. ROMAN ZENTSOV
w: Zentsov via 1rd KO
Second major KO victory for russian hard-puncher Roman Zentsov in a row, after KO-ing once great Pedro Rizzo after just 25 seconds. Zentsov is rumored for possible OWGP replacement if Fedor stays out of the tournament

2nd Fight:
ALISTAIR OVEREEM VS. FABRICIO WERDUM
w: Werdum via 2nd rd submission/armbar
This was a dynamic duel against kickboxer Overeem and grappler Werdum, after striking domination of Overeem – Werdum managed to pull out armbar on Overeem and he had to tap out.

3rd Fight:
TSUYOSHI KOSAKA VS. MARK HUNT
w: Hunt via 2nd rd TKO
Japanese veteran Kosaka in his retirement tournament showed a lot of heart and huge balls with stand-&-trade with striking monster Mark Hunt of New Zealand, apparently heart and balls were just good enough for huge apraisal from the crowd, Hunt took the victory.

4th Fight:
JOSH BARNETT VS. EMELIANENKO ALEXANDER
w: Barnett via 2nd rd submission/kimura
An open brawl in 1st round with Alex hitting/landing more in numbers and in percission, but he paid a price for being more active in 2nd round when he was completely gassed out and let Barnett to take him down which shortly ended in Barnett's well executed kimura on Alex.

5th Fight:
KAZUYUKI FUJITA VS. JAMES THOMPSON
w: Fujita via 1st rd TKO
Another good and open fight in which Fujita showed again how tough he really is. Thompson dominated the fight from the begining, he was all over Fujita with punches and knees, but these punches were only good enough for exhausting Thompson. Fight went on the ground with Thompson on top, but with just small number of quality strikes so Fujita managed to stand up and he landed 2 solid punches on Thompson, which destroyed his defense completely and rest of fight he was just a puching bag for Fujita, who landed at least 20 punches before ref stopped it

6th Fight:
MIRKO CRO COP VS. IKUHISA MINOWA
w: Mirko via 1st round TKO
He's back - in attitude as well as in performance. Mirko was heading forward for the first second of the fight and he didn't gave his opponent any chance – after number of solid punches fight went on the ground where Mirko contiuned his striking on Minowa – and only thing ref could do is to stop the fight and save Minowa.

7th Fight:
ANTONIO RODRIGO NOGEUIRA VS. ZULU
w: Nogueira via 1st round submission/armbar
After short exchange, fight went into Nog's kingdom – on the ground and it was just a matter of time when Zulu will make mistake – and he let his arm caught by Nogueira – anf that ws the end of the fight

8th Fight:
YOSUKE NISHIJIMA VS. HIDEHIKO YOSHIDA
w:Yoshida via 1st round submission
Being an un-expririenced mma-fighter without win in his mma-career so far and facing expirienced judo-master – it was one way street – which ended logically by quick submission

Obračun u Ringu 4

(of course – i had to steal some photos from lot333 first) wave

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Frane Radnić
European WAKO-Pro & MTA Thai-Kickboxing Champion -72kg
(on left)

This is how Frane saw his title-winning fight:
- "In 2nd round I injured my right leg so I was pretty much limited in using my legs from that moment. But I did pretty fine in boxing – I protected myself well and regularly punching Tancray right on his chin. I had a little crises during the 4th round but then passed it and outclassed my opponent."

K-1 and Kickboxing/Muay Thai legend Branko Cikatić named Radnić-Tancray as the best fight of the night and added:
It was a lot at stake in this fight and Radnić won it all!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Marko Tomasović
European WAKO-Pro Full-Contact Champion -94kg
(on left)

Tomasović beat highly ranked hungarian Varga and he commented his fight with:
- "Such fights you must win with your brain. I knew that rushing-in into trading punches & kicks without control was a bad idea, so I decided to play it smart and I led the fight and I was scoring point-by-point. Also I was getting great advices and support from my corner. The next step in my career is K-1."

Zoraj & Komšić wins in their title bouts

Leo Komšić beats Viallon of France, and gets WKA -95kg european title in thaiboxing. Mladen Šteko (Komšić's & Zoraj's promoter & trainer) said: "Komšić dominated the fight from the start and in 2nd and 3rd round he rocked his opponent pretty badly so Viallon wasn't able to continue the fight."

At the same event Emil Zoraj wins the WKA world title -76 kg in thaiboxing against Adam Chajkin. Šteko also commented this fight with: "Chajkin attacked Zoraj heavily in the beginning, but Zoraj stroke back equally hard and he was pulling up the pressure from round to round, and finally in the 4th, after another Chajkin's knockdown ref stopped the fight"
