A little review of Mario Preskar's professional career so far

Mario Preskar (186cm, 98kg, 22yrs/old, pro-boxing record 9-0-1) – croatian professional boxer from Dubrava/Zagreb, named by some as a New Great White Hype.

At the age of 19, he and his trainer Leonardo Pjetraj as a team have signed something what looked like the dream come true – a contract with the most influential professional boxing promotor – they've signed for Don King Productions.

Three years later, Preskar career didn't developed as all of us wanted or wished. More or less in pro-boxing World - Mario stands just about where he was 3 years ago, he is ranked as 133rd boxer among the heavyweights.
If we take a look on his opponents in pro-career so far, only one of them actually has a positive record and could be labeled as professional boxer – Marcelino Novaes, and their fight ended with a draw – and it was called a draw by refs only because Preskar is Don King protege. According to some independent sources – Mario should lost that fight.
Other boxers from Preskar fighting record are nothing but "tomato cans", and their only purpose for fighting in pro-boxing ring is to build-up someone elses record and also to earn some money, cause pay-checks in pro-rings are better than those in their local bars brawls scene.

Don't get me wrong – such fights are needed in the beginning of fighter's careers but only in first 4 or 5 fights for getting expirience and for promising newcomers adaptation on pro-boxing.

But, now Preskar and Pjetraj are facing much bigger problem, cause only worse thing than fighting against mediocre opponents is not fighting at all. And Preskar had last fight 5 months ago, and since October of 2004. he had only 3 fights – in last 18 months.

In building up his case Don King came to Croatia on last October and King was welcomed here in Croatia - by Croatian President Stjepan Mesić, by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić, and by HRT (Croatian National Radio-Television) management – and with them he signed a contract for tv-rights for Preskar fights, but also for other Don King Productions events.
Then he said: - "So far I've invested about 500.000$ in Mario Preskar's career, but for his success we need a support from Croatia. And people here in Croatia showed me that they're ready to help Preskar on his way to become the champion. In front of Preskar is a promising career and I'll do my best for making him the champion."

Now we're getting some late night fights occasionally on HRT channels, but without any signs that we'll watch Preskar in the ring any time soon.

btw.
Don King's offer was a very nice one and could be easily interpreted as: Sign with me or Preskar's history.

Today, at the age of 22 - Mario Preskar career is on the road to nowhere, and it's hard to figure out which way out form this position is the best available. One-sided breaking up with Don King Productions doesn't seem like a really bright idea if you planning to have any future in professional boxing and possibility to put the pressure on Don King for getting him more involved and to take a better care of Mario – it's nothing but an illusion.

Things can change, and only and the best place where Mario can speak is - the ring, he must fight, must fight more, and with real boxers.
But, first of all – he must win the fight for his right to fight. Sounds complicated? Even more than the words can tell.
