Pride Croatia Event????
from www.pridefc.com
Nobuyuki Sakakibara:
"Mirko said before that he would like to fight Nogueira in Croatia. Mirko probably envisioned himself beating Silva and then getting revenge on Nogueira in the Final Round. I'm sure that Mirko feels very strongly about paying Nogueira back (for his previous loss). Croatia is close to Europe and it's a resort location, so I think there is a possibility of holding a PRIDE Croatia event."

On the departure at the Zagreb Airport, Mirko Cro Cop was in a good mood and said to the journalists:
"We know all about Silva, but one thing - in which round will Silva go down"

Good atmosphere at the Airport was created by few dozen fans, mostly members of Nokaut forum, who came there to show their support and to wish good luck to Mirko in Japan.

Cro Cop vs Tyson in Las Vegas

The same questions are bothering some people for ages:

Who would win the fight between these two:

Bruce Lee or Rickson Gracie???

Shaquille O'Neal or Akebono???

Fedor Emelianenko or Grizzly the Bear???

Mirko Cro Cop or Mike Tyson???

Well this last match-up is rumored lately in croatian medias, who are quoting some un-named japanese sources about possibility for them to face each other on the Pride debut in USA.

For those who are actually wondering if this fight is gonna happen or not - I've got the answer:
Rickson by armbar!!!

Tomasović loses in final

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Marko Tomasović, kickboxer and member of KBK Pitbull from Split once again show that he's one of the biggest prospects of the combat sports in Croatia today.

After his impressive debut appearance as a boxer on European Amateur Boxing Championship where he lost in first round, but showed more heart and talent than most of our "natural" boxers, Marko is back in his basic sport.

On kickboxing 8-Men Tournament under K-1 rules, which was held yesterday on August 19th in Deberecen (Hungary), Tomasović reaches the final.

In first round Tomasović beat Meiszter Gábor (Hungary) via KO, then in semi-finals he faced Hameur-Lain Zinadine (France) and won, therefore he qualified in final. But Zabit Samedov (Belarus), after 2 hard fights, was too much for Tomasović and fight was finished after the 1st round of the fight.

Another huge one by Cro Cop
Branko cut the booze and leave me alone!

from Sportske novosti, edition august 11th

sn: what is your current weight?
mcc: 101kg (223lbs)

sn: are you satisfied with you current weight?
mcc: very

sn: it's august, do you know how many trainings you had this year?
mcc: hard to tell, but i think around 350

sn: have you ever felt tired and exhausted of this kind of life? and considering to quit the whole thing?
mcc: oh, yes sometimes it's really hard, but to quit - could this be a good call... to quit the trainings means to stop the fighting, because you can't fight without being 100% fit and ready

sn: what advise would you give to your son if he decides to practice mma one day?
mcc: if he'll have such desire - we'll work together, but i'll rather that he choose something else, this is so hard and very dangerous way.

sn: what is more harder for you to practice: wrestling or boxing?
mcc: there're both hard, but wrestling takes more energy from you

sn: on one occasion we have a privilege to talk with japanese ambassador to croatia, his excellency tetsuhisa shirakawa and he told us that before he left for croatia, japanese prime-minister mr. koizumi told him: "you're going to the crocop-land", what do you thing about that?
mcc: it means a lot to me, it's nice to hear. japanese prime-minster is an extraordinary gentleman, and as he respects me - i highly respect him too and his country. the country in which i've become what i am.

sn: how do you comment recent incidents in sukošan, when there were flyers in which you and you manager lučić were put in the same context with serbian terrorists, spies, serbian turbo-folk singers, and criminals?
mc: i lauged when i heard it, but with deep disgust, because it's unbelievable for me that someone could be so low, so malicious, so dirty in the 21st century. but this wasn't the first incident with a similar material, it comes about 2 times per year and under attack are usually: zvonimir lučić, orsat zovko and me. and behind this is one old bitter man, i know that a bright man could go crazy, but loony can't go smart. so, branko cut the booze and leave me alone

sn: tell us something about you preparations for the gp*
mcc: i'll stay in zagreb untill august 20th, then i'm going to pula for 2 weeks where i'm gonna train under my friend enver šeparović, a specialist for physical conditon who works under instructions of professor igor jukić. and also in pula i'll train with leo komšić's boys; velentino venturini, igor jurković and tomica paladin, these guys are excellent sparring partners, and in front of them is a big fighting career.

sn: who'll will join you on your trip to japan this time?
mcc: my regular crew plus professor jukić and dr.kapulica

sn: your fight with yoshida was the most mature so far?
mcc: some people looked a quite opposite on that fight, here in croatia we have so many "experts". people easly forget who is yoshida, and he is a great fighter and former olympic gold-medalist, and he wore a gi - which prevented my mid-kicks. also i had some problems with my left leg, so i badly needed a good strategy - which i executed well and finish the fight.

sn: wanderlei silva is your next opponent?
mcc: i don't like him, he is the only fighter in pride i really don't like. he's weird and doesn't have a character, but he's great fighter. still - i'll beat him.

sn: who would you prefere in the final fight?
mcc: it doesnt' matter, maybe i'd like minotauro better than barnett, no matter the fact i beat barnett twice. barnett vs minotauro - it's gonna be a great fight; barnett is in great form lately, and minotauro is minotauro.

sn: now pride organization and you are in good relations again, but what if you and them didn't found satisfying solution?
mcc: i'd stay out of gp

sn: are there any alternatives for you?
mcc: yes - usa, from where i'm getting offers constantly. of course - i'm pride fighter, i'm aware from where i've got the name and the glory, which doesn't mean that i'm not go fight in usa after all.

Sukošan Fight Night Report

fights:

IGOR POKRAJAC (CROCOP TEAM) vs LUKASZ JURKOWSKI JURAS (Poljska)
winner: Pokrajac via judge decision
This was the fight of the night not just because it was announced as one. Pokrajac payback against Juras was worthy of watching it. And for the first time I may say that I was impressed by Pokrajac performance in a positive way.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

SAŠA MUČNJAK (CROCOP TEAM) vs BRANISLAV ZEMAN (Brazilian Combat Team Slovakia)
winner: Mučnjak via 1st rd TKO
Mučnjak made a really nice come-back in this one, after Zeman domination which ended with him stayed out of gas, Mučnjak took over the fight. A good win for Saša

HRVOJE KIŠIČEK (CROCOP TEAM) vs MARO PERAK (UFC "Gladiator" Dubrovnik)
winner: Perak via 2nd rd armbar
As far as I know this fight was mma debut for Kišiček, who is a talented kickboxer, and therefore he couldn't had tougher task than to face a former croatian judo champion Maro Perak, and Kišiček made just a one little mistake, and he was punished. But it's fair to say that Perak deserved this one, he was better fighter from the 1st second of the fight, and he proved that he needs to fight on a higher level.

MARIO MARIJANOVIĆ (Gracie Barra Mostar) vs IVAN BRKLJAČA (KBK «Croatia» Zadar)
winner: Brkljača via 1st rd TKO
Too bad that early un-neccessary injury ended this fight.

DUŠAN/ILJA SKONDRIČ (Brazilian Combat Team Slovakia) vs DORIAN ILIĆ (Piranya gym)
winner: Skondrić via 1st rd TKO
Ilić showed that he's got a heart, anything else was on Skondric side.

DRAŽEN GLAVAŠ (NOKAUT TEAM) vs MILAN VUKŠIĆ (Megacentar Rijeka)
winner: Vukšić via 2nd rd towel thrown
Vukušić showed more skills and more will than Glavaš, and it seems more condition too - because Glavaš corner decided to re-draw their fighter just before the start of the 2nd round

DANIJEL MRKOCI (KBK "Kutina") vs ALEN BEŠIREVIĆ(ŠABANOVIĆ???) (UFC "Gladiator" Dubrovnik)
winner: Alen via 1st rd guillotine choke
It's very sad to watch former kickboxing prospect and champion Mrkoci ruining his reputation only because he didn't find enough time to work on his ground skills, a deserved win for Alen.

SAŠA VASILIĆ (Zagreb) vs MICHAL STANISLAWSKI (Poljska)
winner: Stanislawski via 1st rd TKO
Nothing much too say; this was one way street. Stanislawski put up a nice performance and gave Vasilić a decent mma-lecture.

K-1 bout
MARKO BENZON (Pitbull) vs NIKOLA PALADA (Terminator)

winner: Benzon via judge decision
A very exciting fight and also a very tied fight which could ended in both directions. In my opinion Benzon won just because he looked better in the ring.

All in all, it was a surprisingly nice event, considering the changes in the fight card and the time & the place of this event.

A little stadium in Sukošan was full of people, and all of us were having a great time watching the fights. Match-ups were good and most of the fights were very excited.

It was a very good night for all mma fans and for promotor of the event Slaven Vujić.

Two thing I'd like to point out though...

- one is positive - referee: Slaven Planinić, once again showed that he knows and he understands the sport, it's a real pleasure to watch the fights when he's in charge.

- and other one is negative - ring: Well, the ring in general looked too small for mma fights, but the ropes were a real disaster, one fighter got injured because of it, and in a few occassions we're just a moment away from a tragedy. A danger of falling out from the ring was a major threat for the fighters, sometimes maybe even more danger than their opponents

Mirko won't fight on the Grand Prix Finals???

Two croatian daily papers Jutarnji list and Večernji list have published that Mirko Cro Cop Filipović won't fight on the Pride FC OWGP finals scheduled for September the 9th.

Filipović said:
- "We haven't closed the deal. They said that I'm too expensive for them, but I just wanna be paid for the risk I'm taking. I feel sad for my fans, but I won't give up of my principles. From next Monday I'll be in Pula on vacations."

Though it seems that Mirko is still opened for further negotiations. Apparently the problem is because Mirko would like to be paid with an extra fee for the final fight if he enters the finals.

Cro Cop speaks

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

An interview from today edition of Jutarnji list

JL:you fought silva 4 yrs ago under special rules which led the fight to the draw

MCC: when we fought in 2002, i was clueless about the ground game, but i think that landed more. i asked for special rules, because back then i was before and after that fight - k-1 figher, and it's hard to adjust to different styles. but all i asked was 5 x 3mins rounds, and draw if fight ends without stoppage.

JL: what was your impressions about silva?

MCC: silva is top fighter, but he behaves little strange, on pride tournamenst he's always looks indifferent and modest, turning his head away form other fighters, and then in the ring he acts like a madman

JL: who'll be in the GP final?

MCC: barnett could suprise minotauro, and i'll beat silva for sure

JL: since 2000, you haven't got 2 fights in one night, could this be a problem for you?

MCC: therefore it's important to end up the semifinal fight asap, ko victory would give me huge advantage

JL: before you fight against fedor, you had a problem with adjsuting at time-diffrerence between croatia and japan?

MCC: that's why i'm planning to go to japan on wednesday morning, which means that i'll be in tokyo in thursday morning, and time till my sunday fight i'll try to sleep in my regular "croatian rhythm", and after the fight - in monday morning - i'll coming back to zagreb

JL: are you missing summer vacations with you family somewhere on adriatic coast?

MCC: 10 years passed since i hadn't been there - so my answer is no. i'm not fan of being by the sea and just lying on the beach

JL: is the end of you career near?

MCC: when you among the best and not having troubles with the injuries - there is no point to think about ending the career. in mma "golden ages" lasts till the age of 35 , fighters are maturing late and thats why their careers last so long

JL: why you had to gave up of using shorty's song "dođi u vinkovce" as your entrance song?

MCC: at the end of the GP, when i take this cup in my hands i'll ask them to play shorty's song, unfortunatelly japanese organizers insisted that i use duran duran's "wild boys" cause it's more recognizable for the fans

JL: have you got any problems with your condition in your last fights?

MCC: i heard this one a million times lately, everyone knows all about football, politics and mma. i explained a number of times that i'm not un-fit but i'm having problems with my breathing cause cartlidge in my nose is broken and this causing me problems, that's why i'm using every possible moment in the ring to breath thru my mouth. and for ordinary fans it seems that i'm breathless and out of shape. soon i'll go to solve this problem with a surgery. - i wanna breathe normally.

and probably the most interesting part:

JL: you've mentioned in many occasions that you'd love to fight in usa?

MCC: i'll fight there soon, maybe even this year in october, but not under pride or ufc, but under one other organization who just have started their business, their offer is excellent and i'll very likely accept it

ps
sorry about bad spelling and grammar

One other thing is nice to hear that Marijo Šivolija is awared of all mistakes that have been made and he's ready to prepare himself properly for the World Championships where he's gonna defend his silver medal.

When he was asked about who's responsible for his failure he said: - "Maybe - it was me, and maybe our national team management , it's stupid to make any excuses now - all of us should learn a lesson and move on."

And he added:- "I need to take some rest first, then I'll need a plan, a personal plan cause I don't wanna depend on none but myself. I'll put all of me to the maximum for the World Championships."

SHIVOLIAJA MARIO (CRO) vs DIAMBANG MAMADOU (FRA) PTS 23:27

and now when our greatest hope is out at the first round and when all our NT manager Pero Tadić is doing is complaining about bad judging and global conspiracy against Croatia in Bulgaria, and only 2 croatian boxers left in the tournament; Boris Katalinić who actually won the fight, and Ahmeti who's fighting tomorrow.

And why I wrote global conspiracy; because all the boxers who beat our guys are coming from different country - so it must be a huge coalition established only to eliminate our guys as soon as possible. The truth is more likely that quality and form of our boxers is actually bad as spelling of the organizers of the championship. SHIVOLIAJA & DIPALNO simply weren't Šivolija and Đipalo we know.

Funny thing is also that one of our guys who did fine - though he lost the fight against top-ranked opponent - is actually a very talented kickboxer Marko Tomasović.

(-69 kg) BORNA KATALINIĆ
(-75 kg) MATEJ MATKOVIĆ
(-81 kg) MARIO ŠIVOLIJA
(-91 kg) VEDRAN ĐIPALO
(+91 kg) MARKO TOMASOVIĆ

results of our team so far:

(-75 kg)
JACK BADOU (SWE) vs MATKOVIć MATEJ (CRO) PTS 30:16

(-64 kg)
KATALINIĆ BORIS (CRO) vs ANDREEV ANATOLIY (MDA) PTS 36:15

KATALINIĆ BORNA (CRO) vs STRETSKYY OLEXANDR (UKR) RET - R3

(+91 kg)
TOMASOVIC MARKO (CRO) vs TIMURZIEV ISLAM (RUS) RET - R2

I've put "die hard" title, but it seems that our boxers are becoming too easy targets for their opponents, only Boris Katalinić managed to win in his first appearance, one other thing is bothered me more than this early loses.

Apparently in today issue of Sportske Novosti, Filip Palić thru the autor of that article words mentioned that his major problem/reason why he failed to succeed wasn't because he was in a bad shape and below the class of european top amateur boxers, but because city of Zagreb didn't give him a public flat here in Zagreb.

Somehow they forgot to mention that someone paid their preparations and trainings and someone is doing that for years, and only thing Palić ever did is winning european bronze back in 2001 (and after that followed his transfer to Zagreb in which they promised him a public flat on service), not to mention a honor for representing his country on international level. So our dear Filip Palić if you're so worried about material things - I've got one little advice for you: take a chance and go to the pros!

I'm aware about all the existential difficulties in amateur sports here in Croatia, but in sports like boxing where any athlete can make a decision: to fight amateur or to go professional, bitching about bad situation is pointless specially after you lose against first decent opponent on your way.

At the time I'm writing this Vedran Đipalo is fighting, so instead of waiting for his result I decided to go out and to drink a few beers, and the results of his fight I'll post later this evening

and he lost too...

Post-fight Mirko Cro Cop

At least I've got the answer to my dilemma after his fight:
- Kicking Yoshida with his right leg was a part of his gameplan - (only) because Mirko wasn't able to kick with his left one. Here are the best of Mirko's post-fight thoughts:

- "All the time during the fight I felt completely secured. I realized that I can control fight with my right low-kick, so I didn't wanted to put myself in any kind of un-neccessary risk. And that clinch we had, when Yoshida wasn't able to throw me down additionally pumped-up my self-confidence."

- "Till September I'll have a plenty of time to completely heal my left leg, and become 100% fit. When I wasn't able to with it during the fight, so I decided to kick with my right and made a lot of damage to Yoshida's knee and thigh. That was first KO caused by low-kick in history of Pride."

- "It is irrelevant for me who is gonna be my opponent in the semis, but I think it won't be Barnett cause we had 2 fights recently - so another fight probably won't be too attractive for the fans. I think that Wandrelei Silva could be the one, and in fighting Silva I'll be highly motived because of one other thing; Silva's bad behavior. But we'll have to wait and see what Pride will decide.

- "From now on till next Monday - I'm on vacations - and afterwards I'll spend whole summer with nothing but hard training."

Mario Preskar update

First of all - Mario will fight again, and moreover against opponent with a pretty decent boxing record

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

source: Sportske Novosti

Croatian professional boxer Mario Preskar is facing Matthew Greer (7W-2L-0D) of USA, this heavyweight fight will take place in Savvis Center (St.Louis, Missouri/USA) on 8th of July under Don King Productions.

How serious are Preskar preparations for the fight you can tell by the fact Željko Mavrović (38, croatian boxing legend and former EBU heavyweight champion) joined Preskar in the ring as one of his sparring partners.

Mavrović explained why: - "Most of his sparing partners are not at the Mario level, and from my expirience I can't tell how important is sparring in a preparations for the match. So I'm here to help Mario with my knowledge and expirience."

And this is what Mario said about his upcoming fight: - "Having just a fighter's name can't tell you much, opponents should be analysed by watching tapes of their fights, and such a opportunity I had so far with only 3 of 10 boxers I fought."

Asked about his long periods of non-fighting Preskar added: - "Unfortunately, that's correct. But for me personally, a bigger problem is lack of adequate sparring partners, and my coach Leonardo Pjetraj is trying hard to give me the best ones he can get, but without satisfactory results. Therefore opportunity to have someone like Mavrović as my sparring partner is a huge benefit for me, though he's retired I still can learn a lot from him."
