In October of 1980, Talking Heads released their fourth album, Remain In Light. It contained the singles, "Crosseyed And Painless", "Once In A Lifetime" (#14 U.K.), "The Great Curve" and "Houses In Motion" (#50 U.K.), though the single version of the latter was a remixed version. The album reached the #19 spot on the U.S. albums chart and the #21 spot on the U.K. albums chart. The New York band were CBGB's regulars.
Trio (sometimes written TRIO) was a German band that formed in 1980 and disbanded in 1985. It consisted of Stephan Remmler, Gert 'Kralle' Krawinkel, and Peter Behrens.
Trio were formed in the small German town of Großenkneten in 1979. By far the band is most noted for the song "Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me Aha Aha Aha" (or simply "Da Da Da"), which was a hit in about 30 countries worldwide.

THE STONE ROSES
WATERFALL
(ORIGINAL 12" REMIX)
(JUSTIN ROBERSTON MIX)
The Stone Roses were an influential English rock band from Manchester formed in 1984. Seemingly coming from nowhere, they appeared to be the right band at the right time. Like their peers Happy Mondays they had an arrogant swagger and streetwise attitude reminiscent of The Rolling Stones in their pomp. The Roses had a broad appeal too: their upbeat, danceable sound and positive outlook had much in common with the blossoming rave scene at the time, yet they also appealed to more traditional indie fans.
Waterfall was the band's 9th single overall and was the fourth taken from their debut album The Stone Roses. Although the track was recorded in 1989 it wasn't officially released as a single until January 1992. Waterfall reached #27 in the UK.
A cult mid 80's Yu synthpop duo, in the most successful years comprised of the mastermind Davor Tolja and the vocalist Marina Perazic.
After the second album, Ja Sam Lažljiva, Marina quit to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Edi Kraljic.
For the third and final album, Budi Tu, the act lost the synthpop edge that had made the whole fame and became more guitarish pop-rock oriented.

the POGUES: (1988) If I Should Fall from Grace with God
If Rum Sodomy & the Lash captured the Pogues on plastic in all their rough-and-tumble glory, If I Should Fall from Grace with God proved they could learn the rudiments of proper record making and still come up with an album that captured all the sharp edges of their musical personality. Producer Steve Lillywhite imposed a more disciplined approach in the studio than Elvis Costello had, but he had the good sense not to squeeze the life out of the band in the process; as a result, the Pogues sound tighter and more precise than ever, while still summoning up the glorious howling fury that made Rum Sodomy & the Lash so powerful. And Shane MacGowan continued to grow as a songwriter, as his lyrics and melodies captured with brilliant detail his obsession with the finer points of Anglo-Irish culture. "Fairytale of New York," a glorious sweet-and-sour duet with Kirsty MacColl, and "The Broad Majestic Shannon" were subtle in a way many of his previous work was not, "Birmingham Six" found him addressing political issues for the first time (and with all the expected venom), and "Fiesta" and "Turkish Song of the Damned" found him adding (respectively) faux-Spanish and Middle Eastern flavors into the Pogues' heady mix. And if you want to hear the Pogues blaze through some fast ones, "Bottle of Smoke" and the title song find them doing just what they've always done best. Brilliantly mixing passion, street smarts, and musical ambition, If I Should Fall from Grace with God is the best album the Pogues would ever make. -- Mark Deming, All Music Guide
Dead Kennedys were the most popular and respected American punk rock band with hits such as ‘Holiday In Cambodia’, ‘California Uber Alles’ and ‘Police Truck’. Over the years, their catalogue has sold millions of units. Now, for the first time since the release of “Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death”, Dead Kennedys have compiled their best-known recordings into
one glorious package. The brand-new track-listing also includes other favourites such as ‘Kill The Poor’ and ‘Viva Las Vegas’ and two previously unreleased live tracks. This gorgeous release in addition to being the ideal package for existing loyal fans, also serves as a fresh and compact introduction to this legendary and celebrated band.

Alternative, New Wave, Pop Rock
Shriekback is a rock band formed in the early 1980s by Barry Andrews, formerly of XTC and League of Gentlemen (keyboards/synthesizers/vocals), Carl Marsh (guitars/vocals), and Dave Allen, formerly of the Gang of Four (bass). They were joined by Martyn Barker on drums in 1983.
Shriekback are popular for their exploration of the darker, funkier side of rock music, usually featuring Dave Allen's driving basslines. Self-described as an "avant-garde musical outfit", they are popular among a limited audience, both for their poetic, often intellectual lyrics, and for their dance-worthy music which range from disco and new wave (New Romantic) to an edgy, pre-grunge hard rock.

Funnily enough, Suicide are victims of themselves. Their 1977 debut album is so ridiculously unique, innovative, and influential that it's easy to forget that they've made other records. For all the praise given to "Frankie Teardrop" and "Cheree", there's respectful silence regarding most of the rest of their catalog, as if to say "yeah, that's okay, but you heard the debut, right?" This is sad not only because it boxes Alan Vega and Martin Rev into one tiny corner of their career in most people's minds, but also because the other albums are actually pretty damn good.
Forgoing a missive on why their second (also self-titled) album is just as good as their first, I'll cut to the chase at hand and announce that if "A Way of Life" had been their debut-- even in 1988 when it was originally released-- people would be talking about it every bit as much as they do the real debut. By the time it came out-- more than 10 years removed from their debut-- Suicide's influence had spread throughout the dance and industrial music scenes, with plenty of spillage into synth-pop and punk, but no one had yet managed to sound anything like them. Indeed, if there's one thing "A Way of Life" drives home more than any other, it's that Suicide never stopped being ahead of their time, their signature big-reverb synth-pop/50s rock 'n' roll/industrial noise melange (would you hate me if I coined the term droneabilly?) too singular to be touched by anyone else.
Alan Vega's Elvis Presley-imprisoned-at-Vlad the Impaler's-house croon is a big part of what sets them apart, his tortured balladeer groaning and punky swagger rendering him a more dynamic frontman than just about any other act in any of the genres Suicide helped give birth to. One-man-band Martin Rev, meanwhile, makes artificiality into a virtue with his spot-on arrangements that alternately crawl and get on the good foot, frequently suggesting 28th Century doo-wop and rockabilly. "A Way of Life" puts their range on full display, pouring all of their evil energy into nine creepily ingratiated industrial pop songs.
The specifics don't really do it justice, but "Surrender" is the perfect prom theme for Twin Peaks High, a glowing 50s ballad replete with gauzy, ethereal female backing harmonies, Vega at his most Dean Martin (if Dean Martin were into S&M). "Jukebox Baby 96" is the most explicit rockabilly track, and if the Stray Cats played a note-for note cover of Rev's cleverly detailed arrangement, not one of those notes would sound out of place. The crackling and buzzing mechanics and thwacking beats of "Rain of Ruin", meanwhile are less novel, and Rev's machines couple with Vega's clipped vocalizations to sound almost Wire-ish on "Dominic Christ", bass line bending and warping over an insistent electro beat.
When measured against their fist two albums, "A Way of Life" might be the runt of the litter, but it's still a very good, well-developed album, and now that it's back with a lengthy, mid-fi, but spirited live performance attached, fans really don't have much excuse for ignoring it. This punk-funk-jazz unit born in 1978 in New York City merged avant-garde with rocking, funky grooves. Over this period the band made 15 recordings on various independent labels and traveled throughout the world sharing the stage with countless numbers of popular artists. Defunkt is the first band to make a real fusion of popular and extreme music styles, also pioneers in early stages of rap music in the early 80’s. The band uncharacteristically has from the beginning performed at Jazz Festivals as well as Rock & Soul venues throughout the world, gaining cult like respect from musicians and underground music aficionados worldwide. Defunkt has never gained huge commercial success due to unwillingness to compromise creativity and musical uniqueness and integrity for popular acclaim.
This collection of early Defunkt mostly features their arguably classic line up. Kim Clarke's wonderful, unique, wide-freqeuncy sound on bass slipping seamlessly from finger to slap can only be described as 'riotous' - it sounds like improvisation to me with endless ideas woven around a rock solid funk riff. Kelvyn Bell's guitar likewise has this impro feel about it and yet is funk solid - his hard sound and jazz-modal solos add to the overall 'angular' sound of Defunkt and is no surprise he went on to play in Steve Coleman's Five Elements. Kenny Martin on drums - well, it takes something very special to simultaneously add to this riot of a thousand-riff's-a-minute rock funk and still keep a bed rock groove All this is the perfect underpinning for Joe Bowies' proclamation vocals and strident, explosive, modal brass. The message of Defunkt has always been intended to be a “light” for the people in darkness, not a sedative for world sickness. Their first 2 albums have been remastered and packaged together, for those that enjoy this taster, a must have .

Here's the concept: The structure of most pop songs consists of only two parts, the verse and the chorus. Since the verse and chorus usually repeat three times in a three-minute song, a pop tune really only consists of one minute of music. Cut out the repetition and you can, therefore, fit 40 pop songs onto a 40-minute record. And that's exactly what The Residents have done on "The Commercial Album", the title of which comes from the band's deduction that since pop songs only consist of one minute of music and most advertisements are about a minute long also, ad jingles are "therefore the music of America." Got it? Whatever the concept behind it, this album is not only weird in that special way that only Residents albums are, but it's also surprisingly musically satisfying. A few of its 40 tracks ("Secrets" and "The Simple Song," for example) feel like throwaways, but most of them are surprisingly well organized and complete. The instrumental "Japanese Watercolor" is particularly impressive, as are the songs
"Picnic Boy" and "Troubled Man." This album would make a great introduction to The Residents for anyone who hasn't yet been exposed to the band's unique brand of whimsy. [Source: AMG]

"This is the music of struggle and suffering, of sorrow and hope, of certitude and joy. Who can then hear these chants without hearing the voice of men from all times? Make no mistake about it: from all times, for even if these revolutionary hymns stem from modern times, they express a timeless struggle. We do not know what chants Spartacus' revolting slaves sang, but their revolt is sung here, their voice creating an unison with the voice of 1917 men (...) We can listen to this revolution in this recording, roaring in the partisans' chant. 15 chants of justice, liberty, fraternity. Let us listen: it is the honor of Man singing here"

"Being Boring" is a single by the British pop group the Pet Shop Boys. As the second single from the 1990 album Behaviour, after "So Hard" which was released before the album, "Being Boring" was not particularly successful upon release, reaching only number twenty in the UK singles chart and being the first single released by the group not to get into the top ten since "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)" four years previously.
The song is concerned with the idea of growing up and how people's perceptions and values change as they grow older. The title apparently materialised after someone in Japan accused the duo of being boring. The title is also derived from a Zelda Fitzgerald quotation, "she refused to be bored chiefly because she wasn't boring".
The track was originally pieced together in a studio in West Glasgow, where the music for 'My October symphony', 'The end of the world' and the unreleased 'Love and war' were also done.

Thanksgiving Prayer
by William S Burroughs
Thanks for the wild turkey and
the passenger pigeons, destined
to be shit out through wholesome
American guts.
Thanks for a continent to despoil
and poison.
Thanks for Indians to provide a
modicum of challenge and
danger.
Thanks for vast herds of bison to
kill and skin leaving the
carcasses to rot.
Thanks for bounties on wolves
and coyotes.
Thanks for the American dream,
To vulgarize and to falsify until
the bare lies shine through.

Album Press Release:
When Underworld released their last album "A Hundred Days off " no one thought it would be nearly 2000 days until the next one arrived. It hasn't been a case of lazing around in the Essex countryside though as the last 5 years have thrown up the 1992-2002 anthology album, two major film scores (Anthony Mingellas’ "Breaking and Entering" and Danny Boyles’ 2007 "Sunshine"), a self-published typographic journal "In The Belly of Saint Paul", a series of pioneering digital-only releases, internet-radio broadcasts, a groundbreaking live web-tv broadcast and gig in partnership with Apple and Frankfurts’ techno giants Cocoon and countless gigs around the world.
During all of this action Rick and Karl, with the aid of trusty laptops, a couple of home studios, Abbey Roads’ legendary facilities and a Pig Shed, have been carefully developing ideas for the new album "Oblivion with Bells", an album that was finally completed in a flurry of activity and excitement in spring 2007. True to form Underworld tread their own path through modern electronic music tipping a nod to current sounds, styles and production techniques but never afraid to let their song writing and musicianship shine out in this digital world. "Oblivion with Bells" draws heavily on Rick and Karls’ vast array of musical influences (Nick Drake, Def Mix, Ricardo Villalobos, Can, James Holden, Eno) and experiences performing worldwide to create a truly unique Underworld journey. The album kicks off like Saturday night with Sven Väth, Simian Mobile Disco and Frankie Knuckles all fighting to get on the decks, then takes you over the flat fields of rural Essex, through Kings Cross with its olympic dreams and piss stained alleys, ending blissed out in a hidden cove in Ibiza. Epic techno nestles next to frail acoustics, beatific prose next to sharp urban observation, amazing sound texturing mixed with mobile phone recordings, rarely has the Underworld palette been so rich.
The Summer of 2007 sees Underworld playing a handful of European festival dates (where you can expect new material to be debutedalong side deep grooves and some classics from the Underworld jukebox) ahead of their tour, which kicks off in North America in September.
