My new car
It was kind of time to admit that nothing on the immigration front is going to happen soon, I can be slow on the uptake! So, I took the plunge and bought a 'cheap' car at a car auction which cost 200 pounds or 400 US. So, I was pleased, it seemed ok when I had a quick look, only 64000 miles, 2 owners, how bad could it be? Well, I drove it home only to realise that the head gasket had blown, it was only running on three cylinders and using as much water as petrol!!! So, 100 pounds later and I have rebuilt the engine and installed a new head gasket, rocker cover gasket, cambelt, fan belt, air filter, oil filter, thermostat, radiator switch, spark plugs, set the timing and changed both oil and water!
After changing the water in the cooling system it was obvious that the head gasket had been blowing for some time as the water in the cooling system was rust coloured rather than a healthy coolant green. It has taken two more 'flushings' to get it to the right colour. I have also started to address a couple of minor cosmetic issues, such as peeling stickers (removed them) and the rear rims had hub caps, but I didn't have any for the front so I removed them but had to wire brush the wheels, sandpaper them and then paint them with rust protector, which is why they are a nice shade of salmon pink. My plan is to spay them silver to match the fronts tomorrow.
Oh, and I need to wash it in order to remove the the evidence of all the oil covered activity, but I am afraid that if I do, it might break! But it seems to be running fine, staying cool and the oil is staying oily rather than turning into a frothy goo!
Oh, and I am tempted to change the UV joint on the front passenger side as it clangs a bit, nothing bad, but as I have gone this far...

This is the first in a series of images I was allowed to take over the course of a long afternoon at the Allstate Barber College in downtown Cleveland, OH. 6. I design knitwear based on what I want to wear and only later think about whether anyone else would like it.
7. I was a little bit shocked when I got my first knitting design accepted to an online magazine, because it meant that other people would want what I want.
8. The best job I have ever had was teaching Akkadian at Harvard to graduate students.
9. That job did not pay me enough to live (so I also worked at Macy's).
10. I have been a full-time administrator for nearly 4 years now.
11. Every day I wake up and wonder how I do it.
12. I don't style my hair. It is true bed head.
13. I've always given whatever I have to my friends and family when they need it.
14. The other day while at my secretary job I thought, "Everyone knows this company is going through a hard time. We should all get together and talk about what we can sacrifice to get through this time together so no one does without."

Chui, Our Miracle Cat! - Please Read.
Chui, is Swahili for leopard. We call him our miracle cat. Back when we first got our Bengals we decided that since we had a pair it would be fun to let them mate and have a litter of kittens. Thought it would be a good way to get several more "free" Bengals...... I figured mating would come naturally to them. They are cats after all! Well, it didn't. Shawnee couldn't seem to quite figure it out and Tawny wasn't really helping. So, one day I decided if this was ever going to happen they needed some help. By lifting Tawny's rear hind end up and pushing Shawnee's rear end down they finally connected. Probably more then you wanted to know. ;-) Anyway, pretty soon we could tell that Tawny was pregnant. I had a trip to Australia planned about the time she was due. She had them about 3 days before I left. Jan, stayed home from work to be with her that day. As it turned out Tawny had 4 kittens. But, 3 of them were stillborn. Chui, was the last and Jan some how managed to get him breathing. That was the first miracle. Tawny rejected him and didn't want anything to do with him. So, no mothers milk. I left for Australia and was gone about a month. Jan, took over feeding Chui every couple of hours. It was in late November. She would put him in an Igloo Cooler (insulated) with a small blanket and take him into work with her. Surprisingly her boss was fine with her doing this. Chui, got pretty bad diarrhea from the kitten formula she was using, but, he seemed to be coming along fine other then that. I got back from my trip and of course wanted to see the little guy. He was really cute. Jan, handed him to me and just after receiving him he had an accident. Got me good! All down the front of my shirt! He soon was eating more solid food and the diarrhea was pretty much a thing of the past. Then Chui some how scratched himself by his eye. Figured it happened when scratching an itch with his hind foot. But, since he didn't have much of an immune system (no, mothers milk) it did get infected. The next morning his head was swollen up like a ballon. So, off to the vets with our "free" cat. Because of his diarrhea problem he already had been to the vets. It was a really bad infection. They kept him during the day, but, we had to take him to Pet Emergency for the night. They didn't know if he would make it. Lots of antibiotics, prayers and around $1100.00 later he was fine. Our "free" cat! ;-) That was the second miracle!
Things were going along great. Chui, was doing fine. Then one day I decided to go home from work to get something. Thing is I never go home during the day. I came up the stairs and Chui was laying there at the top. Looked okay, but, didn't get up and come to see me. I got what I needed and as I was leaving decided to check him over as he still hadn't moved. At first I couldn't find any problem. But, he just seemed so listless. Then I noticed a spot on his lower lip. It had been burned. I went and checked the few electrical cords that were plugged in. One had been chewed on. We rushed him to the vets. They took x-rays and found that his lungs were nearly full of fluid. Our vet came back in and told us that she didn't see any hope for him and that we should let her put him down. Jan, said okay if that's what needs to be done. I looked at the vet and said, NO! he will be okay. I had been praying for him and some how just knew it wasn't his time. They put a shunt in his leg and we tried giving him the antibiotics every 4 hours. But, after waking up at 1am and injecting myself with the needle, while trying to get the needle into the shunt as he fought Jan while she held him, we decided that wasn't going to work. So, same routine as before. Our vets during the day and Pet Emergency during the night. He is a very strong cat. After, several weeks of the best care and $1400.00 later (Our "free" cat!) he got better and was fine. This was the third miracle! Also, since then we don't leave any electrical cords plugged in if we are not using them. Watch TV plug it in. Program over unplug the TV, etc.
Then in October, 2008 we noticed Chui's nose was bleeding a little. We kept an eye on it and some days it was fine, other days just a little bloody crust. Then his eye started to swell shut. Chui hates going to the vets. Chui at that time weighted 28 pounds. Solid muscle. Normally he is a very, very gentle cat. But, go get the cat carrier and he knows. A real terror! The vets know him well! So, we had hoped that he wouldn't have to go. But, with the swelling around the eye we decided to take him. They took x-rays and a tissue sample from inside his nose. They had to sedate him. We were at work when Jan got a phone call from our vet. When she came back to see me, she was crying. Chui, has cancer! They say they can't treat it. So, we took Chui back to the vets and started asking questions. Our vet is a top vet. He could see how badly this was affecting us. I said, there must be something

I was counting down the hours, and sleeping well, which surprised me, and I got a call. My tattoo artist is in the hospital, so now I will have to wait until Tuesday. I hope he feels better soon, and I am dedicated to him because around here good artists are hard to find and he is one of the best. I have waited 15 years, I guess a couple of more days is not going to hurt. Thank you all for your lovely comments, I am glad you like the idea
I love you Nanny, and tomorrow I will prove it forever. Since you died in 1991 I have always wanted to honor you, I did not know how. I finally found it, and I am so glad I did.
I posted this to let all my friends know what I was doing and why I might be out of commission for a couple of days.
Tomorrow I am getting a tattoo, of course I will post the pic ASAP!!! I know some of you think this may be drastic, but I have always wanted one, but could not think of a meaning until now, I don't know what took me so long to think of it.
This is why..
It's kind of a long story, one day I was having a 'I want to kill myself" days, this was back in 2005, and I went to my grandmothers grave because I didn't know what else to do. I was crying, and I just asked her to send me a sign to keep going. So as I said it this old, and ugly little daisy (fake) fell onto my leg, kind of freaked me out. I kept... See More it. So I am getting a tattoo of a Daisy, 3 actually, one bigger then the other, the bigger one representling my grandmother, and that will have a petal floating away, and two small ones for mom and I, since I was raised by my mom and grandmother. The stems of the daisies all come together and tie at the end.
I was getting scared tonight and then I looked up the meaning of the daisy and it only reaffirmed why I am doing this, it is the perfect description of my love for my Nanny who passed away when I was 14 in 1991.

So I am sure this time tomorrow I will be in some pain, but I will always have my Nanny with me.
I thought this pic I took last summer was kind of cool because it has some raindrops on it, which I think represents some of the tears I may have tomorrow, everyone thinks I am a wimp and I will not go through with it. Am I scared? Yes, will it be worth it to me? YES! I know it is the right thing to do and I am also very excited!

Getting there...
Thankfully, the stitches came out today, bruises are clearing up and lip is healing well. And best of all, the tetanus shot was as easy as anything, and no residual pain (glad I didn't have the injection in the backside like recommended by some).
It was a small wait at the RPH after-hours GP clinic, with a women who injured herself while gardening, a gent injured by his cat and few with seasonal ailments further up the priority queue.
I didn't mind that at all, as it allowed me to relax and soak in the atmosphere, send rye tweets about the lack of gender and age appropriate magazines, and allow the mother to have a bit of a giggle while waiting. Her tween daughter said several times that mum wouldn't need stitches. I suggested that she make a wager that if stitches were required, her daughter would have to go into medicine.
If the giggle then was golden, then both her and my chuckling later were totally priceless.
After seeing the Doctor, I was escorted into the treatment room where the mother's hand was being patched up. As I walked in, she commented "I won the bet" causing me to snigger some more.
The daughter didn't want to leave her mother's side, and from the conversation in the adjoining cubicle shall we say the daughter was more than a little queasy as things progressed. After the nurse had finished with the mother they made their way to Reception to complete their business. As soon as they arrived at the desk, the daughter fainted on the spot at the sight of some remaining blood on the mother's dressing.
Queue commotion in the waiting room, and the sound of a thud as her head hit the reception desk. I feel sorry for the poor girl, particularly as she came to she no doubt would have heard me cackling like nobody's business up the corridor.
Anyway, stitches removed, injection done, DB4 filed and the lovely waitresses tipped - I was back on my way smiling and on the way to more heeling.

So after a long day and a late night I hopped in the shower to wind down and get ready to go to bed, once I got out though I realized I still hadn't taken my today picture, oooooooooops. Day 20 - Dry, Cracked Skin
The thing I haven't been able to get used to since I moved to Colorado 10 years ago, is how horribly dry my skin gets in the winter. My hands are dry and cracked and my knuckles look like they have road rash. I found some crazy vitamin e lotion stuff. It comes in a small yellow tub. it's like 10 bazillion BTU vitamin E. It helps... until I have to wash my hands.. and then they just dry out again. But hey it was a vast improvement over 1 use... so I found my winter time lotion!
This was lit via 1 softbox on the side.

She told me her name...I think it's Tammy.
She sat next to us on a glacier tour.
Here's what I know about her:
- Her husband's name is Jim - he's a pediatrician.
- she's very possessive of her man. If he left our table on the boat for more than a couple minutes, she'd ask us where he went.
- she thought I should be more optimistic about my poor job options because it could be worse...she illustrated this by saying that I could be like the people in Whittier. She never explained why they're so unfortunate, but I think that the people in that town have a pretty sweet set up.
- she lives in Virginia.
- she wears a lot of eye makeup.
- she really likes beef.
- she and her husband spent almost a grand to stay at a Denali lodge for 2 nights with tips.
I don't know why they shared this with us.

Elephant rider
I really got a kick out of wearing this costume!
Turban, beaded armbands, bolero jacket (with ostrich-feathered shoulders!!), a half-skirt on a beaded belt, sandals, and a bodysuit. Every item had jewels and sequins on it. The construction work on these costumes was amazing.
Of course, I could not resist doing glitter lips and eyes for my makeup and adding bindis to really push it over the top.
I had a great time hollering, "Ladies and gentlemen, right this way to meet the most fabulous elephant on the entire property!" (My ad lib was meant to be funny, since the whole scene was quite surreal. For guests arriving on the trolley to discover that amidst it all there was even an elephant present...well, it surely was quite thrilling.)
My only regret of the day was that I did not have the opportunity to get my photo taken with Congo the elephant and the family who cares for her, Doug Terranova and his daughters, Alex and Taylor.

Shadows used are Coastal Scents (CS) and Beauties Factory 18 palatte. (CS) Mystic Lilac on lid. (CS) Mermaid for under eye. (BF18#16) for tear duct. Peach (no-name brand) for highlight. Green liquid liner for lid. Emerald City Pencil me in liner for water line.
Ugh, I finally get to look 100 and I have the worst lighting. I promise you my camera and lighting today didn't do justice to this color. The Coastal Scents Mystic Lilac is a beautiful matt lilac and very highly pigmented. Tomorrow is my birthday and I'm going to go see Gwar in concert...again. I'll be wearing my gwar shirt which is primarily green and orange so I think I'll do tomorrow's look with almost all (CS) Mermaid (shimmer green). I'll also take the look over the top with false eye lashes and glitter because its my birthday and a concert and damnit my eyes need to celebrait!

Week 18 - She watchs over me
Until this very day, Sunday, i had no idea of what i would do for this week's photo.Probably i had too many ideas and was too short on time, or maybe i was just overall lazy,as it seems to be a constant mood on my weekends. However,my dear friend Laetitia Silva came around so we could study a little and we ended up making videos and photos for her Multimedia work and while doing so we came up with this.
By yourself you can come with a hundred ideas,theories and explanations,but here is mine.
There's no sexual connotation in this, but a simple pure friendship. We know our friends as they are,naked if you want so, you know how it's like to be with them, without them, almost be in her skin, feel what they feel, experience and live what they go through and this is what the image explains. We are friends since October, we meet in our first classes in college and ever since we have been unstopabble. It's the kind of friendship that blooms out of the blue and you know you can trust that other person, save with them your deepest secrets, laugh with them, cry with them, talk for hours or just laugh. She sort of is my other half when it comes to a lot of things, so here it's, to our friendship and to this beautiful woman, with the most amazing soul, voice and mind!
Make-up box 60th Birthday cake
I made this cake (which is from the Planet Cake book) for my Mum's best friend's 60th birthday. We traveled to the Hunter Valley with it this weekend. Sweet Art (Paddington) made the cake for her birthday party which was on Saturday, but I made a cake for her actual birthday which is on Tuesday (she hasn't received it yet, and I left it in the safe hands of my parents!)
I wish I could say I had fun making this cake, but it was a nightmare. To some it might look simple, but I really had a lot of trouble. It must have been doomed from the start as I even seemed to have a lot of trouble just covering it!!! (Wish I knew why!!!) The make-up part was OK, but the black fondant was impossible, and just getting a square of it on the top was awful. I knew it would be tricky, but I had no idea how difficult I would find it!
There were only 2 things that I was really happy with - my board and the nailpolish bottles (made from modeling paste).
The cake is caramel mudcake. I really wanted to use caramel ganache, but seeing as it was traveling and not being consumed until Tuesday I used dark choc ganache.
Despite all my troubles, I thought it turned out OK in the end...until I saw the Sweet Art cake...then I just got completely depressed!
