Canopy Park At Riverwalk
Elgin Riverwalk - The Bigger Picture - with notes :-) A larger view of the riverwalk area. Im on a bridge to shoot this and you can see another bridge in the distance. Thats the bridge I couldnt decide weather to cross over or not. But I did and ended up here. In a previous post with that pretty purple flower tree and the puzzle rocks was shot from the walkway in the center of this photo. This park is literally islands in the middle of the Fox River and the are connected with footbridges. Quite a nice place for walking around WITH a camera in hand. I want to check this out at night and see what kind of photo opps there are at sunset and after. Could be some really great shots to be had. We'll see :-) Prothonotary Warbler (Protonotaria citrea) please excuse the poor quality as this was taken handheld at f5.6 under a thick canopy of trees, but this is a first for me and an addition to the lifelist Similar posts: drapery manufacturers thermal window shade specialty lamp shades 14 shades of gray herbs in shade bay window shade plantation faux wood blinds lamp shade shop |

(14) (vote now) voting closed ok. polls open now. it's time for me to dye my hair again (notice to conspicuous roots, eek!) first let me say that i started dyeing my hair for two reasons. one, because i figured if I started dyeing it BEFORE i get gray hair, i'll never be the wiser and i'll FEEL younger. two, i like to keep things interesting and dying my hair is fun. so here's the deal, I'm conflicted about my color. as a kid my hair was very blonde, then as a teenager it became dark blonde with highlights, and now, alas at 30 it has become a tangle of blah brown. i want to keep it interesting. i'm not opposed to doing something really radical like dying it pink. but black, another shade or red, or blonde are all on the table too. i'm not afraid to do wild stuff to my hair. i've shaved my head and had it waist length and every length in-between. now it's time for color-fun. my husband would get bent if i shaved my head again (which i've been tempted to do) so i'll have to refrain in that regard. so here's the deal: friend or foe, i want your opinion. vote now! ps- i should mention that i am considering regrowing my hair waist length in the near future. if you people vote for green, i am going to be seriously ticked! Togetherness - and seperation. I'll write later.. Oh hey, well my brother broke the computer keyboard so I'm stuck writing on my itouch (if there's spelling errors, ma' bad) Can't say much about today.. Besides THE WEATHER IS FUCKING GODLY! I'm getting darker and darker, i'm loving it. Oh, and this picture? Tell me what you think.. I kindof want to delete the thing. I keep staring at it picking out the flaws. Aren't flaws suppost to be beautiful though? Gone camping, WITH MY CAMERA IN HAND. I'll try to capture something beautiful. dark blonde hair shades Originally released in 1973, The Dark Side of The Moon became Pink Floyd’s first number 1 album in the US, remaining on the chart for 741 weeks between 1973 and 1988. MILLIONAIRE SHADES. MILLIONAIRE
Millionaire Shades
McKenzie's pyramid One cold foggy Sunday night in the autumn of 1871, 68-year-old Lionel Harland, a respected Rodney Street doctor, left his surgery and walked up Liverpool's Maryland Street, when he heard footsteps approaching. The shadowy figure of a tall wiry man wearing a top hat and a flowing cape was emerging from the swirling fog, a hundred yards ahead. Dr Harland hesitated at the corner of Maryland and Rodney Street and felt a shiver run up his spine, even though he wore a heavy fur coat on this chilly September night. The silhouette advanced towards the doctor with an almost military gait, and as it came within range of the flickering yellow flame of a lamppost, the elderly doctor saw to his horror that the approaching figure was the very same one he had encountered twenty years before. It was not a living person at all, but the ghostly shade of a dead man - a dead man the doctor had known personally many years ago. It was the terrifying apparition of James McKenzie, an evil and wicked man who gambled with the Devil and lost his soul as a result, forever condemned to walk the earth without rest until Judgement Day. Before the doctor could cross the cobbled road to escape the terrifying ghost, the apparition let out a spiteful laugh and sneeringly said: "Ha! Hospital Sunday!" The spectre was referring to a charity collection the doctor held on Sundays to raise funds for poor people needing hospital treatment. Halfway across the road, Dr Harland was brave enough to take a single glance at the cursed phantom, and he almost fainted with fear. McKenzie's face looked as if it was lit up by a red flame, and his eyes were ink-black and lifeless. As the doctor shivered, the figure in black walked straight through the wall of the cemetery. The trembling doctor reached the house of his friend Daniel Jackson in Blackburne Place, and after giving a garbled account of his meeting with McKenzie's ghost, he clutched his heart and collapsed onto the hearth rug. Mr Jackson and a servant managed to revive the doctor and gave him a shot of brandy. Dr Harland nodded, then said: "Mr Brocklebank; tell him about McKenzie. He knows the story." Moments later, the surgeon quietly died in the fireside armchair. The only Brocklebank Daniel Jackson knew of was the wealthy philanthropist and ship-owner Ralph Brocklebank, so after his friend's funeral, he forwarded a letter to the local tycoon about the strange story of Dr Harland, but did not expect a reply. He certainly did not expect a personal visit from the affluent Mr Brocklebank in response to his correspondence. The 70-year-old millionaire paid his unexpected visit to Mr Jackson's house shortly before 11 pm. He alighted from a hansom cab in an anonymous black Ulster coat with a black felt fedora pulled over his eyes. Brocklebank was led to the drawing room by a servant who he rudely dismissed with a wave of the hand. Daniel Jackson offered his illustrious guest a finely-cut tumbler of Hoagland's eight-year Scotch Whisky, rumoured to be Brocklebank's favourite tipple, but the mogul shook his head and in a cavalier manner he told his host to go over the story he'd related in the letter. Mr Jackson gave his account of Dr Harland's final moments, and Brocklebank became very uneasy. He sat on the edge of the fireside armchair, jabbing the glowing coals of the fire with a poker with a tense expression. After he had listened to Mr Jackson, he told a very strange story indeed which threw some light on the McKenzie ghost. It was a tale of greed, murder and the supernatural. Brocklebank seemed to see the events he described in the flames of the grate ashe spoke. He said, "I remember James McKenzie. He was one of those people who are born old and crooked. Even then he was in his fifties. I was 25-years-old when I first met him, and your deceased friend was 23 and fresh out of medical school. "McKenzie made and lost fortunes most men can only dream of. He backed the early railways and financed George Stephenson's locomotive machines. He was seen as pillar of the community and a backer of commerce and industry; but there was another unsavoury side to the man few people were aware of. He was a compulsive gambler and an ardent atheist. "Someone told me that he put his family Bible on the fire after his sweetheart died from a fever. They say he hated God because of her death. And there were strange rumours about the man." In 1826, eleven bodies were found in barrels in the cargo hold of a ship at Liverpool Docks. The police traced the barrels to a house at Number 8 Hope Street. That house was being looked after by a James MacGowan, who was an associate of James McKenzie. Anyway, the police arrested Mr MacGowan after they found 22 corpses of men women and children that had been dug up from the local cemetery. Mr MacGowan refused to name names, but everyone suspected Mr Mackenzie of being the instigator. There were whispers that he had turned Number 8 Feb. 29th. leap year. ROLL UP HURRICANE SHUTTER : HURRICANE SHUTTER
Roll Up Hurricane Shutter
Triple Rainbow (I Cheated) One...Two in the sky and...ONE IN THE WATER HAHAHA! TRIPLE! I have cheated natural law. I got SO LUCKY to get a photo of this. Right timing, right film, right lens...and I had a tripod, AND I was able to push things around in post to get it looking right. This one took me a very long time to get right. It was Velvia 50, so I had to scan a few times with different settings to get enough range in the photo, then I still had to get rid of a lot of magenta since my scanner picked up a lot of that. I had to separate the land, sky, and water onto different layers and tweak them individually, and I dodged the hell out of the clouds in the sky so they didn't look black/grey/ugly. Lots of work...good end result...still not my favorite from the roll! XD (The next one is my favorite) I'm thinkin' of gettin' this printed. Oh damn...Now I have to go to work for 12 hours...on Saturday...shitsux, bros. 45th day in a row posting a new photo, too. Shot with a Canon AE-1 Program on Fuji Velvia 50. Lens: FDn 28mm f/2.8 Tripod, shutter release, bracketed exposure, lots of post processing. Rolls Royce Merlin In this shot I have cranked up the shutter speed to 400th of a second. This has the effect of virtually stopping the the prop. You can imagingine what it would be like at a 1000th of second. Of course it does mean we can see lots of lovely detail of the test bed and the engine, but if this was in a plane flying I would not be happy with this level of prop blur. QUEST 10 X 10 CANOPY. X 10 CANOPY
Quest 10 X 10 Canopy
Golden-headed manakin This species of manakins and another (white-bearded manakins) maintian leks on the Asa Wright property. Manakins, as a group of birds, get a lot of attention because of their lekking "dances" (& male cooperation in displays, an unusual "adaptive" behaviour). Different manakin species tend to locate their leks at different heights in the canopy (these guys midstory, about 8–15 m up) which correlates to the amount of ambient light from the canopy and the relative contrast of the male birds' colouration. For more info on that, see: Heinl, M. and Winkler, H. (2003), Vertical lek placement of forest-dwelling manakin species (Aves, Pipridae) is associated with vertical gradients of ambient light. STALL DRAPES : STALL
Stall Drapes
The Bird Market. Part 1 of 8. In the apparent chaos of the Esfahan Bazaar and its twisting, branching system of interconnected corridors occasionally you come across something that throws you, that seems to defy reasoning. Sometimes a locked in mosque in a blindingly bright sunlit opening, other times a mysterious brown tower visible through a few openings in the canopy above with seemingly no entrance, every so often on the path an exquisitely detailed fountain shielded from the sky by solid tall walls and a roof of small red bricks. The people did things that I didn't understand, they seemingly obsessively pour water on the ground outside their stalls and at midday, even though they are indoors in the cool shade, they drape a small rug and sleep in their shops, wares left unattended. The labyrinth is deathly quiet for an hour and any attempt to blend in with the locals is lost in the very fact that you are still conscious (be aware of this, once i was invited for lunch in a man's home and found myself obliged to sleep on his living room floor afterwards!). From a busy road in the bazaar there is a small passage that slopes down, duck down this passable street and find yourself in the beating heart of the bazaar, far from the pretty craftwork and walls lined with jewellery and clothes. This is the bird market, patroned only by locals. It's like a western butchers but without the morals swept under the counter, you buy it, you kill it, you eat it. Except for these lovely little things though, they're dyed for a seasonal celebration. Street Sense - Kentucky Derby winner This colt is a study of the beauty of moderation. He is a dark bay horse with a tiny star on his forehead. He is not very short or very tall. Nothing stands out because he is so harmoniously proportioned. He does not have a flashy running style and he does not win every race by 10 lengths. But he has accomplished quite a bit in his career so far. He has broken the "Juvenile Jinx" by capturing the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at 2 and the Kentucky Derby at 3. He also is the first horse in over 10 years to win the Kentucky Derby and the Travers Stakes. He is managed masterfully by well-respected trainer Carl Nafzger. According to recent articles, there are two more races planned for Street Sense before he retires to stud at Darley. If all goes according to plan, his last race will be the Breeders' Cup Classic. I'll be rooting for Street Sense and his connections to drape another blanket of victory flowers over his dark bay shoulders this October.
