Golden-headed manakin
This species of manakins and another (white-bearded manakins) maintian leks on the Asa Wright property.
Manakins, as a group of birds, get a lot of attention because of their lekking "dances" (& male cooperation in displays, an unusual "adaptive" behaviour).
Different manakin species tend to locate their leks at different heights in the canopy (these guys midstory, about 8–15 m up) which correlates to the amount of ambient light from the canopy and the relative contrast of the male birds' colouration.
For more info on that, see: Heinl, M. and Winkler, H. (2003), Vertical lek placement of forest-dwelling manakin species (Aves, Pipridae) is associated with vertical gradients of ambient light. Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 80: 647–658. doi: 10.1111/j.1095-8312.2003.00264.x
WTF? (1) Quest Locomotors A365DAW
Quest B / Locomotors B28D. New in 1984 to Ralphs, Longford this peculiar looking vehicle was used as some sort of experiment/demonstrator moving its 'Cargo' around Heathrow Airport. By September 1987 it was with Smiths, Buntingford still sporting an offside door, although I bet the door wasn't in use. In fact I wonder how much use the 'bus with the truck front' actually got?
Q: What became of this 'thing'?
