Doug Stone - Singles 1990 - 2008
Doug Stone, with his sweet voice and beautiful delivery, was surely one of the most overlooked but most deserving of the many country vocalists who appeared on the scene in the early '90s. Stone's exquisite style brought some of the Nashville sound back to country, and his distinctive Georgia tones brought country back to the Nashville sound, much in the manner of such luminaries as Jim Reeves and Don Williams.
Romance found a new voice with Doug Stone, as he tackled such lovely ballads as "In A Different Light," "Crying On Your Shoulder Again," and the Harlan Howard-penned "These Lips Don't Know How To Say Goodbye." His country sound is magnificent as he sings the mournful, beautiful "I'd Be Better Off (In A Pine Box)" and the two-steppin' "Fourteen Minutes Old." He takes on a swing with "We Always Agree On Love," but he's at his best when he's singing a sweet, mournful, country ballad. No one sings regret like Doug Stone, as when he's singing "It's A Good Thing I Don't Love You Anymore," and "My Hat's Off To Him."
Why and how Doug Stone got overlooked is a mystery. He has one of the finest voices in country music and he can sing a real country ballad with a deliciously rich voice; he should be classed with the legends today. This debut is one of the strongest you'll find, and is absolutely delightful. From beginning to end, Doug Stone delivers solid, real, heart-wrenching country music, of the sort that should never go out of style.
