Campbell is back with Ghost on the Canvas, a companion to the previous album, but this time all the songs are original. Campbell’s producer for Meet Glen Campbell, Julian Raymond, helped him produce Ghost on the Canvas and also helped him co-write a majority of songs, such as the simple opening track, “A Better Place”, which is about as country as the album gets. Aside from Raymond, Campbell was able to corral an incredible team of songwriters: Paul Westerberg, Jakob Dylan, and Robert Pollard, among others. Westerberg wrote the titular track, which sounds almost like Yoshimi-era Flaming Lips in parts with its anthemic strings and powerful chorus. Dylan’s contribution, “Nothing but the World”, takes Campbell back closer to his country roots and allows him to tell us a little …

When I first heard the name Harlem Parlour Music Club, I thought it might be a revival band playing the great tunes of Harlem music masters like Fats Waller or James P. Johnson from generations past. But, that’s not what this terrific band is about. They’re a collection of New York-based musicians – some of them solo artists, others key band members for pop artists like Cyndi Lauper, or ace studio musicians – who’ve come together to play rootsy, mostly original songs in the Harlem living room of drummer Sammy Merendino and occasional club dates.
The names of a couple of the musicians and singers in the Club jumped right out at me. Dobro and mandolin player David Mansfield has played on lots of records on my shelves and he played with Bob Dylan for several years. I met him briefly back in 1975 when I was a backstage guest of Ramblin’ Jack Elliott at a Rolling Thunder Revue concert. Speaking of Dylan, singer-songwriter-guitarist Mary Lee Kortes has a band called Mary Lee’s Corvette that did a live album I liked covering all the songs, in order, from Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks.
The focus here is on original tunes by various members of the band – the only cover is a folk-meets-funk version of Sly Stone’s “Thank You (forlettinmebemiceelfagin)” – that usually feature the writer on lead vocals, with stirring harmonies from other singers, and instrumental back-up from a great rhythm section and stellar instrumental soloists.
Among my favourite tracks are Darden Smith’s neo-gospel “Dyin’ to be Born Again”; Allison Cornell and Ann Klein’s “Runaway Train,” a topical song about a world out of control set to a hyper-bluegrass arrangement; and Kortes’ “Truck of Pennsylvania,” an almost-epic description of scenes and encounters on the road.

When plans for a professional golfing career were derailed by injury, country songwriter Jake Owen picked up a guitar and never looked back. A native of Vero Beach, FL, Jake and his fraternal twin, Jarrod, grew up in the Florida sun playing sports like baseball and football before Jake turned to golf and Jarrod to tennis. They continued their respective sports together as students at Florida State University, until a waterskiing accident resulted in reconstructive surgery for Jake. Off the golf team and struggling with depression, he borrowed a neighbor's guitar and passed time teaching himself to play by listening to childhood favorites like Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Vern Gosdin, and Keith Whitley.

Coldwater Jane is an American country music duo signed to Mercury Records Nashville. It is composed of Brandon Jane and Leah Crutchfield, who are sisters. The duo released its debut single, "Bring On the Love," to radio in early 2010. This song has charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and has been made into a music video which has aired on Country Music Television and Great American Country. Jane and Crutchfield wrote the song in a jam session with record producer Wayne Kirkpatrick and Jane's husband, Kevin Kadish.
The song received a positive rating from Bobby Peacock of Roughstock, who thought that the song was not country in sound, but said that it had "intriguing lyrics." CM Wilcox of The 9513 gave it a thumbs-down, saying that it "isn't a bad introduction to the act" but also calling it "overly familiar" in sound.

Stoney LaRue plays music that combines the rootsy, emotionally honest sound of country with the beer-drinking swagger of heartland rock and a dash of the moody undercurrents of the blues.
Six plus years since his last release, recorded over a period of three years with acclaimed producers Frank Liddell (Miranda Lambert and Chris Knight among many others) and Mike McCarthy (Patty Griffin), backed by the best hired guns in Nashville including names such as Randy Scruggs on guitar and Chad Cromwell on drums, Velvet is a very finely crafted collection of music. It is hard for anything to live up to immense hype and Velvet attempts to do so admirably. The tunes are mostly successful at satisfying the hype with only a few moments that don’t quite measure up.

Barry along with his brother, Paul, who were both identical twin sons of Marion Ryan, a fifties pop singer, were signed by Decca in 1965. With neat long hair and carefully selected fashionable clothes they were skillfully marketed by Decca. In 1968, Barry Ryan went solo and Paul took to songwriting. An early result of this new partnership was "Eloise", a stunning single with its melodramatic vocal style and heavily orchestrated backing. This was certainly Barry's magnum opus and he soldiered on for several years after without achieving the same heights again.
In 1986 the airwaves were filled with the dramatic sound of "Eloise" performed by former punk idols The Damned. The sheer power and scale of this track written 18 years previously was there for all to hear. "Eloise" was one of many classic songs written by Paul Ryan, but it was his brother Barry who performed on the original version.
Twins Barry and Paul were born on 24 October 1948 in Leeds, England. Their mother was singing star of the 50s Marion Ryan and step-father - show business impresario Harold Davidson. They grew up using their real surname Sapherson; by the time of their fifteenth birthday the twins had entered show business and taken their mother's name - Ryan. Under the full glare of media publicity they released their first single "Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches" which reached the UK top twenty. Follow-up singles all fared well and under the direction of top writer and arranger Les Reed, they filled a niche left vacant by UK acts aiming at the US market.
The Ryans were groomed for stardom. Top designers ensured their photogenic looks were seen in all the pop papers but the constant tours and TV appearances were starting to have an effect on Paul who suffered a near-nervous breakdown. After a brief lull in chart action the pair decided to split in 1968. This took the pressure off Paul who could now spend more time writing. Barry signed to MGM Records and the single "Eloise" became the label's first release. Promoted with one of the first full videos, this dramatic, powerful song was an instant smash, selling 3 million copies and reaching number 1 in six countries.
His unusual arrangement of one brother writing for another certainly worked and with further hits "Love Is Love", "The Hunt" and "Kitsch". Barry ended the 60s as one of the top pop performers in Europe, despite never playing a solo concert outside the UK. Paul was also having huge success as a writer, having written "I Will Drink The Wine" for Frank Sinatra. Sadly, Paul died of cancer in 1992, aged only 44.

Perfect Stranger is an American country music band founded in 1986 in the state of Texas by Steve Murray (lead vocals), Andy Ginn (drums), Shayne Morrison (bass guitar) and Richard Raines (guitar). After several years of performing throughout Texas, the quartet released an independent album in 1994; this album was later picked up by Curb Records, who re-packaged and re-released it a year later. By 1995, its second single (entitled "You Have the Right to Remain Silent") had become a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts.
Although Perfect Stranger never entered Top 40 on the country charts again, the band continued to perform and record throughout the 1990s, charting several more singles before eventually exiting Curb in the late 1990s. In addition, Andy Ginn was replaced by Marty Arbter on drums. Perfect Stranger returned to Curb to release its second album, The Hits, in 2001, and was dropped again afterward. As of 2009, the band is composed of co-lead singers/guitarists Marcus Eldridge and Clint Williams, bassist Shayne Morrison, lead guitarist Chad Ware and drummer Doug Martin. A third album, Shake the World, was released in 2009. Morrison re-established the band in 2010 with Murray, Raines and new drummer Scott Zucknick.

In four short years, Curtis Grimes has been a star college baseball pitcher, chased his dream of being a singer / songwriter, played hundreds of concerts all over Texas and the southwestern United States, and performed in front of millions on television.
Grimes, a 25 year old from Gilmer, Texas, was an academic scholar and athlete at Harmony High School where he was an All-State pitcher and member of the 2003 state qualifying baseball team. Following graduation he accepted academic and baseball scholarships to Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.
After a break up with his then fiancé, he started playing guitar and developed an interest in songwriting, teaching himself how to play on a used guitar that he purchased at a pawn shop. Grimes then headed down I35 with plans of finishing his degree at Texas State University in San Marcos. While there he fell under the influence of the Texas Country music scene. With legendary venues so close, he was able to follow the Texas Country artists he looked up to.
After playing for friends and relatives at gatherings and parties, Grimes was hooked by the entertainment bug. He started playing acoustic shows at a couple of small venues, bars, and fraternity parties.
Things definitely picked up for after he won the Austin leg of Kenny Chesney’s The Next Big Star contest, getting the opportunity to open for Chesney at the Frank Erwin Center during his Poets and Pirates tour. Chesney also invited Curtis on stage for his encore.
Grimes continued to perform all over Texas and had the opportunity to play with artists such as Jack Ingram, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band, Leann Rimes, Josh Abbott, and Kevin Fowler to name a few.
In 2011, Grimes was asked to audition for the NBC Television show “The Voice”. He was then invited to Los Angeles to participate on the show and made it to the quarterfinals. The show, which was watched by over 15 million viewers during each episode, has opened even more doors for Curtis and he plans on taking advantage of every one of them.
Grimes has extended his fan base as a regular fixture on the Texas music scene. As he expands his sphere with performances around the state of Texas and beyond, Grimes and his band definitely have things looking up.

Jerry Jeff Walker is strongly associated with the progressive ("outlaw") country scene that centered around Austin, TX, in the 1970s and included such figures as Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, the Lost Gonzo Band, Waylon Jennings, and Townes Van Zandt.
Ironically, however, Walker is not a native Texan. He was born Ronald Clyde Crosby in upstate New York and recorded his first several albums while living in New York City. He didn't move to Austin until 1971, but he's remained a major figure in the area ever since. Walker has been quoted as saying, "the first time I set foot in Texas, particularly in Austin, I knew I was home."
Live from Gruene Hall is an excellent return to form from Jerry Jeff Walker. Running through a selection of new songs, Walker is accompanied by a tight version of the Lost Gonzo Band, who help turn these performances into little gems. The hit singles "I Feel Like Hank Williams Tonight," "The Pickup Song" and "Trashy Women" only are the tip of the iceberg. It's may be a live album, but Live from Gruene Hall is arguably one of the best records Walker ever made. Of special note is a brief vocal cameo by Willie Nelson.

A year later, Murphy's debut album Out with a Bang was released; overall, it produced four chart singles. His follow-up albums, Gettin' Out the Good Stuff (1996) and We Can't All Be Angels (1997) were less successful than their predecessors, and by 1998, Murphy was dropped from MCA's roster. A fourth album, Tryin' to Get There, was released in 2004 on Koch Entertainment (now E1 Music), with the Top 5 single "Loco" being released from that album before Koch closed its country division in 2005.
Murphy's four albums produced a total of thirteen singles on the country charts, including the Number One hit "Dust on the Bottle" from 1995 and four more Top Ten hits. Although he has not recorded since 2004, Murphy has co-written several singles for other artists, including the Number One hits "Living in Fast Forward" for Kenny Chesney and "Big Green Tractor" for Jason Aldean.

Prior to the duo's formation in 1992, both brothers were members of The Kentucky Headhunters, a country rock band. In 1993, Brother Phelps charted with its debut single "Let Go", which reached a peak of #6 on the Billboard country music charts. In all, the duo charted six singles between 1993 and 1995 (although only one other single reached Top 40), in addition to recording two albums on Asylum Records. Gospel group MidSouth has been a staple on the Southern circuit for almost 20 years. After several members left in 1984, the band's new recruits used their country influences to shift MidSouth's style. 1989's Down to Earth was nominated by the Gospel Music Association for Country Album of the Year and Shoulder to Shoulder (1992) received a Grammy nomination for Country Gospel Album of the Year. The band debuted on the Warner Alliance label on 1994's Give What It Takes; an eponymous release followed in 1996.

Ever since I first heard the band’s 2008 album Inverted Valentine, I’ve contended that Girls Guns and Glory’s Ward Hayden is one of the strongest songwriters working outside the traditional Nashville scene. The Boston band knows how to rock their blend of roots country and alternative Americana, and Sweet Nothings is already a contender for country album of the year in my book after just a few listens. From the jangle-rock stomp of the title track, which may be one of the catchiest songs the band’s yet released, their distinctive blend of Dwight Yoakam-esque vocals and uncompromising musicianship is hard to put aside.
The songs on Sweet Nothings learn from the (few) mistakes of Inverted Valentine, rarely outstaying their welcome. These are crisp, clean melodies that stick in your head, and the recordings manage to be multi-layered without seeming to be overstuffed with conflicting ideas. “Nighttime” in particular has the kind of straight-ahead propulsion which Johnny Cash popularized, but there’s a great deal going on in the background, from steel guitar layered beneath handclaps and mandolin pickings, all providing perfect balance to Hayden’s trademark wail. And “Last Night I Dreamed” proves the band can be as successful in the opposite direction, crafting a ballad of beauty and depth which really gives Hayden’s vocals room to shine.
The name Girls Guns and Glory may make the band sound like a bunch of Southern Rock rednecks, but to brush them off so abruptly would be a waste and an insult. This is traditional country honky-tonk and Americana performed by a band comfortable enough in their own shoes to modernize the sound without limiting it to current pop conventions. Ward Hayden and company are blazing their own trail in the alt-country landscape, and this, their thirdfull-length album, shows they’re ready to play with anyone, anytime, anyplace. Give Sweet Nothings a few listens and you’ll soon be a stalwart Girls Guns and Glory supporter.

Overwhelmingly known as "The Smart Cousin" Luke Duke, on the '70s TV show The Dukes of Hazard, Tom Wopat has also worked hard at establishing himself in the musical theater community. Born on a small dairy farm in Lodi, WI, Wopat began singing and dancing in school musicals when he was 12 years old. Upon graduating high school, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in Madison to study music, and balanced his time between productions of West Side Story, Jesus Christ, Superstar, and South Pacific, while performing in a local rock band. Upon moving to New York City in 1977, he immersed himself in Broadway and off-Broadway productions, leading to bigger and better opportunities including an audition in California for a Georgia-based action-adventure TV show. The show ran for seven seasons allowing Wopat plenty of time both on camera and behind it (the actor also directed five shows in the later seasons).
After the Duke boys closed up shop, he split his time between fronting the country-rock act the North Hollywood All-Stars and performing in musicals. In 1987 he decided to live a dual life, spending half the year in Los Angeles working in TV and on stage, and half the year in Nashville writing and releasing country albums. The late '90s found Wopat acting on the critically acclaimed TV show Cybil, appearing on-stage in a touring production of Annie Get Your Gun, and in 2000 he released the standards album The Still of the Night on Angel Records.

This is one of the best country albums I've ever heard (if not THE best). It is pure traditionalism, yet HTH twists in a punk rock style that's aggressive where it needs to be, but still holds on to the core of country music of the early to mid-20th century. The instrumentation and arrangements are tight and very clean, and the sound quality as a whole is extremely impressive.

Even the most despondent soul will not be able to resist the Bluebells' charms on The Singles Collection. Containing more than an hour of uplifting, buoyant, and toe-tapping jangle pop, The Singles Collection is an irresistible career retrospective from a band that should've sold as many records as the Beatles. Unfortunately, the Bluebells were trapped in the wrong decade. The influence of '80s college-radio favorites such as Aztec Camera and the Pale Fountains is easily detected in the Bluebells' marriage of new wave and folk, but the golden harmonies of "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" and "Cath" recall '60s fixtures like the Everly Brothers and Every Mother's Son. "All I Ever Said" captures the lovestruck innocence of the early Beatles. On "Patriot's Game" and "Aim in Life," the Bluebells explore serious matters such as the futility of war and the loneliness of old age with warmth and intelligence; although they're not as hummable as most of the tracks on The Singles Collection, they inject emotional weight in the group's discography. However, there's nothing wrong with catchy, rousing pop music, and the Bluebells cook a king's feast on The Singles Collection. One listen is all it takes to be spellbound by the shimmering hooks of songs such as "Forever More" and "Happy Birthday (Turn Gold)."

>Autobiography, mission statement, last will and testament, restless farewell.
A family affair, unpolished and grittily recorded at the Carter Family Estate (including June and Johnny's bedroom!). J.C. is around but keeps a low profile, allowing June to reinhabit the songs she grew up with - mostly A.P. Carter classics: Keep on the Sunny Side; Storms Are On The Ocean; Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone. Ghosts of the original Carter Family hover about uneasily in the mix offering ancient shards of harmony and broken notes. June no longer has much of a voice in any conventional sense but the expression is intimate and heart-felt. By turns uplifting and poignant as undistilled country music tradition pours down around the listener, cracked, flawed and more beautiful than ever.

Born in Dubbo, Wayne's early life took him to many parts of rural New South Wales. Today, he lives in Oberon, a farming and forestry community, with his wife, Jodie-Lea, daughter, Sara-Grace and son, Ethan Brooks Taylor. Yes, Ethan's middle names are a nod to the influence of Garth Brooks and James Taylor on Wayne's song writing and eventual career path.
"I had not written one song until I heard the Garth Brooks/No Fences double album. I heard how intelligent, passionate and emotive, yet still real and honest, country music could be," said Wayne. " It unlocked something in me because within two months I had written my first album, 'Small Town Dreamer'. Of course James Taylor's work needs no explanation. I don't see his style in my writing, I'm not that clever, but I would love to achieve something so full of atmosphere and imagery as 'Copperline' or 'Enough To Be On Your Way'. I am a song writer, and proud of it, but some guys are just a cut above like J.T."
With his real country upbringing and listening to Charley Pride, Don Gibson, (who Wayne calls the 'Master of the perfect 3 minute Pop-Country song'), Webb Pierce and now Garth Brooks and George Strait, Wayne has created his own distinct style of music that reflects his personality; honest, perceptive and down to earth.
Wayne came to notice initially as a Star Maker and 1997 Best New Talent Golden Guitar Finalist. In 1998 he was awarded Best New Talent by the Victorian Country Music Association. Wayne was also inducted into the South Australian 'Hands of Fame' Park in 1999. In March of 2002, 'The International Frank Ifield Spur' Award was bestowed upon Wayne, which promotes the release of his music to over 800 radio stations across Europe and the United Kingdom, in May. Wayne recently received an 'Honour Award' in the 'Great American Song Contest' for his beautiful ballad, 'A House Full Of Angels'. He was one of only four international artists to be recognised with this award this year.
Wayne's brand new album, 'Lessons', already is receiving widespread critical acclaim. As Wayne had no choice economically but to produce 'Lessons' himself, this is a particularly pleasing result for this first time producer.
Wayne has toured with and shared the stage with some of the biggest names in Australian music including Slim Dusty, Billy Thorpe, Marcia Hines, Gina Jeffreys, James Blundell, Mental as Anything and Kasey Chambers & The Dead Ringer Band.
He has a well-earned and well-respected reputation as a great performer and is recognised industry wide as one of the most gifted singer/songwriters in Australian Country Music today.
A rare talent, Wayne has created a place in country music with his deep, insightful and forceful songs reflecting his experiences, while delivering them with passion and warmth in his high-energy performances. His new single, 'UP' has just been released to country radio across Australia to immediate acclaim. A young and inspired artist, Wayne Law is poised to make a huge impact on the Country Music world.

Texas singer-songwriter, Weldon Henson shoots traditional honky-tonk music with a contemporary touch on the Texas music circuit.
In December of 2007, Weldon released Tryin' To Get By, a debut record that from the sound to the looks is filled with brand new Honky-Tonk music that is made for Texas, yet still provides a breath of fresh air for those in need of original and true country music.
The music Henson and his band makes can be compared to music greats like Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings but with their own unique, contemporary twist.

Each artist’s path from obscurity to notoriety is different. Most travel some form of the traditional track through record label, radio and national tour. Others take a short cut through a national television platform. And a few adventurous and driven souls, like CJaye LeRose, have forged their way through the internet jungle, taking a grassroots approach to building a career, sharing their music directly with anyone who would listen, and building fans one by one along the way.
YouTube may have been the internet entry ramp for CJaye’s music, but it was by no means the only vehicle. She also boasts impressive numbers of Twitter followers and Facebook fans, surpassing the levels of many artists signed to major labels in Nashville.
Growing up in a north Houston suburb with her parents, and younger sister and brother, CJaye came by her love of country music honestly. “No one in my family played an instrument or sang, but my mom loved country music, and we watched the video channels constantly. I was obsessed with Shania Twain and Deana Carter, and I honestly believed that George Strait was the same ‘George from Texas’ who called 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home!” confesses the southern-twanged songstress. ”
Although the dream of a music career took root in those early years, it wasn’t until she was a freshman at Texas Tech University that she wrote her first song, “Date with the Tub,” a tongue-in-cheek reminder to men everywhere that they need to pay attention to the women in their lives. This song is indicative of CJaye’s songwriting style – real-life subject matter wrapped in wit and charm. In “The Porch,” the lead track from her debut CD due out early second quarter, the singer, with a generous wink and nod, offers her beau the man-time he wants by suggesting that he spend a “night out with the big, bright stars” … on the porch. “I love my man, I swear!” laughs the girl-next-door with the model good looks. “But what woman hasn’t wanted to hide the remote on occasion?!”
With an endearing sense of humor and can-do attitude, it’s no wonder that her online following quickly grew, and soon caught the attention of those in the Houston music scene. A local independent artist development executive introduced the young singer to influential Austin producer Dwight Baker who recognized her raw potential and agreed to produce ten tracks for her debut CD. “CJaye is so talented. It was a great experience going in the studio with her. It seemed like the natural progression for this artist. She is just waiting to happen,” said Baker who has worked with such diverse artists as Heart, Kelly Clarkson, Enrique Iglesias and Bleu Edmondson.
Early this year, CJaye took a leap of faith and relocated to Nashville. Since arriving on the scene, she has been spending her time writing with noted Nashville songwriters, including Roxie Dean (“When I Think About Angels” by Jamie O’Neal) and Bonnie Baker (“Ordinary Life” by Chad Brock), as well as performing at local songwriter night venues. “This is where I belong! I absolutely love Nashville, and I’m here to stay!” proclaims LeRose. She recently went into the studio with up and coming Nashville producer Brandon Hood to cut three additional songs for her debut CD. “When I got here, I started hearing all of these incredible songs at songwriter’s nights,” states CJaye. “I am such a fan of songwriters, and I knew immediately that I wanted to include some of those songs on my CD.”
While CJaye’s career-passion is music, her cause-passion is promoting pet adoption. “I actually started my You Tube Channel to get out the ‘adopt your dogs’ message,” saysLeRose. “I’ve written a song called ‘Mutt In a Cage’ that I hope will encourage people to adopt their pets, and we’re currently trying to find the right pet-centered partner organization. My goal is to have all of the proceeds from the sale of this song go toward promoting pet adoption and helping defray the cost of spaying and neutering pets.”
With the traditional music business model in a state of transition, it is inevitable that many artists will seek alternative avenues for sharing music and engaging fans. Considering CJaye’s remarkable internet journey thus far, she appears to have chosen the right path.

One of contemporary Christian music's biggest stars during the 1980s, singer Kathy Troccoli was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 24, 1958. She performed her first concert while in junior high, delivering a set of Carole King songs at her school's talent show; she became interested in CCM during the late 1970s, and in 1982 issued her debut LP Stubborn Love on Reunion Records, a label formed specifically to release her music. Although some pundits declared Troccoli's smoky voice too "sexy" for Christian audiences, the album became the fastest-selling debut ever by a female CCM artist; however, after just two more releases, 1984's Heart & Soul and 1986's Images, she quit the music industry, moving back to Long Island after six years in Nashville. Some time later Troccoli resurfaced as a session vocalist, and in 1991 she released Pure Attraction, her first new album in five years; after signing to RCA, she issued a self-titled 1994 LP, followed a year later by Sounds of Heaven. Love & Mercy appeared in 1997, and a year later she returned with Corner of Eden. Troccoli returned in 1999 with the seasonal effort Sentimental Christmas. She continued recording and was able to release a string of popular solo albums including Love Has a Name in 2000, Heart of Me in 2002 and Comfort in 2005.

"Arty Hill is currently setting the bar for male country singers." - John Conquest, 3rd Coast Music Magazine "Some call this music modern honky tonk. Heck, this is the way country music should sound, period." - Elmore Magazine
From Baltimore, MD to Central Texas, Arty Hill is packing the bars and dance floors with his unique brand of Modern Honky Tonk. He sings with an "'everyman' quality!reminiscent of Johnny Cash." (Vintage Guitar Magazine). His songs - marrying the soul of classic country with the wry storytelling of Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt - have been recorded by Rockabilly Queen Bee Marti Brom, Austin's Texas Sapphires, the Grammy-nominated Kenny and Amanda Smith Band, and award-winning Alt-Country pioneers Jason & the Scorchers. And with his recordings topping the FAR chart, it's no wonder Rambles.
net calls him "a country songwriter of the first order." His latest recording, "Another Lost Highway," is an epic combination of bluegrass, Texas shuffles, big rockers and ballads. "From 'Victoria's Secret Is Safe With Me' to 'Halfway House' to 'Blackwater Wildlife,' Arty Hill and band deliver 12 radio-ready tunes that eclipse anything else being released today under the 'country' label."

The ministry of the Roys has quite an interesting history. Lee and Elaine are brother and sister and made their home in Massachusetts until they relocated to the most noted Bluegrass Region in North America, New Brunswick, Canada! (I hope you catch the sarcasm!) I know the question that is going to utter from your lips as you are reading this, how did a successful Bluegrass Duo emerge from Canada? Lee explains that it was the music in the house, the sounds of country and bluegrass never left their home. Both children cut their teeth on music from artists like Keith Whitley, Ricky Skaggs, Bill Monroe and others. Lonesome Whistle is the Roys first label recording from Rural Rhythm Records. Let’s take a quick look at an excellent recording.
COAL MININ' MAN introduces the recording with a song of hard work, good morals and a trust and dependence on God. THAT’S WHAT MAKES IT LOVE is another song with an incredible lyric that can relate to love, sacrifice, family, among other themes. Ricky Skaggs lended his vocal talent on this track as well as a couple of the White Sisters. There are sturdy bluegrass driven tracks that show the heart and soul of this brother/sister duo but there are heartfelt ballads, one that happens to be my favorite on the project is I WONDER WHAT GOD WAS THINKING. It is an original tune written by Lee after watching a disturbing news piece on Sunday morning. Elaine cowrote a great song that shows off her songwriting ability that is based on women chasing their dreams called TRAIL BLAZER. There are many other offerings and tributes on this recording that every Bluegrass fan must hear.
I am truly intrigued by listening to the lyrics, reading their history and seeing where God has brought them from Canada to Nashville through their obedience in writing and recording songs that encourage people from all walks of life. I will give this recording 4 stars because it won’t be long until they will perfect and hone in on the craft of songwriting and render a 5 star project!

A group of talented and beautiful girls had come together some 30 years ago to put up the first girl band in Europe playing exclusively country music. Of course to this day the composition of the band has changed many times. The band appeared on the European stage for the first time in 1989. Since then they have had almost 1000 appearances in many European countries and lately also outside Europe. On their tours Country Sisters have visited more than 20 countries. Most frequently they perform in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, in the Benelux member countries and in Denmark. Greenland, Faroe Islands, Singapore, Thailand, Australia and Indonesia belong to the more exotic countries in which the band performed. Some of these countries have been visited several times which evidently acknowledges the success they have had there.
The band has been playing in its latest composition since 2004. All ladies from the band are usually gifted musically and in dancing. In a very colorful program you will find a succession of all country music styles from traditional classical country style to the latest modern hits, cajun, bluegrass and gospel to rock'n'roll. Their wireless transmission for instruments and microphones enables a great freedom of movement and dancing in country style on stage. The ladies use this advantage to the full satisfaction of the audience. The energy and enthusiasm of each girl literally sucks you in the very first minute you hear them. Specially built white musical instruments, change of costumes and a close contact with the audience makes a perfect impression possible. Ladies usually change their customs several times during their performance according to the theme or mood they want to create….from native Indian leather style, through tigerish sexy outfit, flashy and glittery red or black colors to even a crazy army camouflaged outfit tipped with a bit of hard rock style really add the excitement!!! A great contribution to the quality of the show is the fact that at present the band has 4 vocalists and each of them can play at least two different instruments. Their show is simply unique and outstanding.
COUNTRY SISTERS have experienced many interesting tours such as tour of Australia. Highlight of this tour was their performance at the TAMWORTH-COUNTRY MUSIC-AUSTRALIA festival which is Australia's biggest country music festival. COUNTRY SISTERS have been invited for tours such as Iceland tour in April 2003, Scandinavia and Denmark 2004, Greenland tour and Faroe Islands tour 2005. From many of these trips, the group took away unforgettable experiences from traveling around the countries and will never forget these great audiences.
The Country Sisters have already released 9 CDs. The last two CD´s have been recorded in relation to our last two Canada tours 2006 and 2007, entitled "CANADA TOUR 2006 “ and “DARE TO GO BARE”. They are now on the market in all countries where the Country Sisters have performed or directly on CS concert.
Sonia, Linda, Lucie, Wendy, Klara and Alena collectively bearing the surname of the Country Sisters, meet all the requirements of good country music

Moving over to Epic in 1971, Johnny Paycheck soon aligned with the label's top producer, Billy Sherrill. Given Paycheck's reputation for rowdy honky tonk and Sherrill's proclivity for opulent productions, the pairing did seem a little odd, but at that point, Johnny hadn't had a Top Ten single in five years and needed a jolt to send him back to the charts. So, he tempered his wild ways and made a Billy Sherrill record in She's All I Got, complete with the strings and heavy emphasis on romantic material. Paycheck had not been strongly associated with love songs prior to She's All I Got -- and once his wild-eyed outlaw days began, he was hardly seen as an ambassador of love -- but his slower sides for Little Darlin' proved that he had a strong honky tonk ballad style, similar to his protege/peer George Jones, and Sherrill exploited that side of him throughout this lovely record. What makes the album work is that the singer and producer found a common ground by muting both the gritty hardcore country of Paycheck and Sherrill's lush, layered arrangements. Strings have been left behind, but there are plenty of choirs and weeping steel guitars, and even when the production is a little thick for a Paycheck song, or the tempos a little too sprightly, it works because the material is first-rate, because Sherrill's production is deft and sensitive, and, of course, because Johnny Paycheck is a superb singer, easily adapting his style to this setting. With its romantic bent, it may be somewhat of an anomaly within his catalog, yet it no doubt stands as one of his consistently greatest albums (all the while setting the template for the great Sherrill-produced George Jones albums of the '70s).

"I remember being 13 and standing around at a Waylon Jennings concert at Lanier Land Music Park with my parents. My dad, who can talk to anyone, struck up a conversation with one of the Hell's Angels, who was doing security. The next thing I knew, the guy said, 'Well Waylon likes kids,' and I was on my way back stage to meet him."
Thus began a lifelong friendship that would lead Tommy Townsend into the studios and learning from his ultimate music mentor, Waylon Jennings. Tommy was born in rural Blairsville, GA, and like most southern boys, Tommy was taught time-honored values of hard work, love of God, of family, country, and country music.
Childhood days were spent playing football, riding dirt bikes, and learning to play both acoustic and electric guitar, bass and mandolin.
His earliest music recollections date back to a five-year-old standing on his bed with a mic, decked out in cowboy duds, beltin' out a song to an attentive audience…his dresser mirror. His dad would play bluegrass guitar and sing, and the records of Conway Twitty, Vern Gosdin, Keith Whitley, Hank Jr., Merle Haggard, and of course, Waylon Jennings, were mainstays in the Townsend home. His first experience on stage was playing drums in a local square dance band with his father on bass and his cousins on fiddle and guitar.
His first live singing performance happened by chance. "I was twelve and playing drums for a band, and we were set to play in the school talent show, when the lead singer backed out. My buddies and I decided to go ahead and I volunteered to sing, even though I was scared to death."
By 15, he'd gotten his courage up enough to record a small studio tape and give it to Waylon. Shortly afterward, he also met Jerry Bridges, Waylon's bass guitarist and co-producer. The two men were impressed with Tommy's fledgling effort and promised to take him in the studio when he was a little older.
Music still tugged at his heart, and by this time, Tommy was writing his own songs and going back and forth between Georgia and Nashville, always keeping in touch with Waylon and crew. At age 18, Jennings and Jerry Bridges kept their promise and took Tommy in the studio and produced some sides. It would be the first of many times Waylon and band would take Tommy under their wings and into the studio, and occasionally, out for an appearance on the road.
One of Tommy's fondest memories related to Waylon’s guitar. "Just before I got called out to perform, the guitar tech told me he didn't have time to finish stringing my guitar and to just go ahead and use Waylon's." When he got on stage, Tommy, rather sheepishly told the legend he had to use his guitar. Waylon laughed and said good-naturedly, "This friendship shit is going too far." Then he strapped the guitar on Tommy and said, "Here ya go Hoss."
Jennings was free with his advice on stage, in the studio, and also about life. Having fought his own demons and come out on the other side, he advised Townsend "never to do drugs, never get mixed up with the wrong people." His last words of advice to Tommy were, "do what you feel and never compromise." Certainly words the outlaw lived by.
Waylon continued to be a pivotal force in Townsend's life, and the two would collaborate several times over the years, with Waylon playing on some tracks and singing harmony. But, when it came to the business of music, ole Waylon stayed clear saying, "Tommy, I don't want to take our project to the labels myself, because if they found something wrong with it, it would make me mad, I'd piss them off and ruin your career."
Following Waylon’s death in 2002, Tommy continued to perform regularly with Jennings’ band as well as performing his own dates. He soon caught the attention of music veterans including, Raul Malo, the lead singer for the multi-award winning group The Mavericks, and Grammy Award winning songwriter/producer, Bobby E. Boyd. Working with Malo and Boyd, Tommy began to write and record a new album. The rollicking anthem “Cowboys Want It” took a quick foothold at country radio. “The idea for the song came from co-writer Tom Colwell,” Townsend says. “The more we worked on it, the more fun we had, and it was obvious from the first time we played it on stage that the audience was having a ball, too.”
With an album ready for market and an attitude ready to take on the world, Townsend is poised to make his dreams come true and take his career to a whole new level.

Eddy Arnold's warm, neighborly voice has served him well over the years, and since he made his first recording in 1944, he has been at this an astounding sixty-plus years, during which time he has notched 92 Top Ten hits and reached the top spot 28 times. In 2005, at 87-years-old, Arnold has released his 100th album, the calm, wise and unassuming After All These Years, which was produced by Jack Clement and Jim Malloy. Arnold's voice isn't as strong as it used to be, but the warm, caring tone is still there, and he wisely tackles willfully nostalgic ballads that turn his increasingly hushed singing into a clear strength, and on songs like the lead-off track here, the gentle "Old Porch Swing," he gives the lyrics a priceless fragility and presence. Other highlights include the light rocker "Don't She Look Good," and two songs that originally appeared on Clement's 1978 album All I Want to Do in Life, "When I Dream," and "It'll Be Her." Arnold also revisits his 1956 hit, the durable "You Don't Know Me," which was a hit in 1962 for Ray Charles, and again in 1981 for Mickey Gilley. It may be an autumnal statement, but After All These Years has a quiet, easy pace about it that makes it refreshingly novel when placed next to the hustle, bustle, and bluster of most contemporary country releases.

Tracy Byrd's brand of new traditionalist country made him a star in the '90s, particularly his playful, good-time party singalongs (though he also turned in the occasional ballad success). Byrd was born in the small rural town of Vidor, TX, in 1966, and grew up listening to his family's extensive country record collection. When Byrd was 20 years old, he visited a novelty recording studio in a shopping mall and sang over a karaoke-style backing track of "Your Cheatin' Heart." Impressed, the saleswoman invited him to perform in an amateur talent show, and when Byrd was well-received, he decided to make country music his vocation. He dropped out of college and joined Mark Chesnutt's band, eventually replacing Chesnutt as the house headliner at a popular nightspot in Beaumont, TX. He made one unsuccessful trip to Nashville in search of a record deal, but his second time around, he landed a private audition with MCA executives, who signed him right away.
Byrd's self-titled debut album was released in 1993, and while it wasn't a blockbuster, it put the singer on the map in a big way with its third single, the number one smash "Holdin' Heaven." The follow-up album, 1994's No Ordinary Man, was Byrd's commercial breakthrough; it sold over two million copies thanks to four Top Five hits: the dance tunes "Watermelon Crawl," "Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and Famous," and "The First Step," and the change-of-pace ballad "The Keeper of the Stars," which became a wedding favorite among country fans. Byrd followed his big success quickly with 1995's Love Lessons, and while singles like "Walking to Jerusalem" and "4 to 1 in Atlanta" didn't duplicate the massive popularity of their predecessors, they still helped the album sell at a respectable gold level. 1996's Big Love returned Byrd to the Top Five of the singles charts with the title track and "(Don't Take Her) She's All I Got," and the title track of 1998's I'm From the Country reached similar territory. Byrd subsequently decided to leave MCA for RCA, and made his label debut with 1999's It's About Time, which featured a smoother, poppier production on tracks like the near-Top Ten "Put Your Hand in Mine" (the record's biggest single). However, Byrd returned to straight-ahead, good-time country for the follow-up, 2001's Ten Rounds; fans rewarded him by sending the single "Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo" to the top of the charts, giving Byrd his second number one. The album also featured the Top Ten hit "Just Let Me Be in Love" and a duet with Mark Chesnutt on the playfully anti-pop "A Good Way to Get on My Bad Side."

Some call them "Jazz". Some call them "Classical". Some call them "Bluegrass". They are all right. When you listen to the music of the Kruger Brothers, you can't help but be amazed by the depth of their artistry. Drawing on a rich cultural palette, theirs is a music that celebrates the best of what music can be: exciting, engaging, intelligent and delightful
Born and raised in Europe, brothers Jens and Uwe Kruger started singing and playing instruments at a very young age. Growing up in a family where music was an important part of life, they were exposed to a wide diversity of abiding musical influences. Jens and Uwe started performing regularly by the time they were 11 and 12 years old and began their professional career in 1979. Joel Landsberg, a native of New York City who also had a very extensive musical upbringing, joined the brothers in the early 90's and together they soon established the incomparable sound that the trio is known for today.
Since a formal introduction to American audiences in 1997, their remarkable facility with their instruments and unique take on the American Songbook, have made the Kruger Brothers a fixture within the world of acoustic music. Although initially staying close to a traditional repertoire, Uwe chose to follow his urge to draw from his personal experiences. The result is a catalogue of songs distinguished by a rich detail and insight into the delicacy and complexity of everyday life which betray an honesty that has become a hallmark of the trio's work.
In all, the Kruger Brothers personify the spirit of exploration and innovation that forms the core of the American music tradition. Their original music, composed by Jens Kruger, is crafted around their discerning taste, and the result is unpretentious, cultivated, and delightfully fresh.
Since moving to the United States, the Kruger Brothers contribution to American musical culture has been greatly appreciated. They were awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant for "Music from the Spring" a symphonic suite composed and orchestrated by Jens Kruger, which premiered in 2007. In addition to their regular concert schedule they perform this piece regularly with select symphony orchestras throughout the country.
Through their numerous CD releases, radio and television performances, lectures and collaborative efforts, the Kruger Brothers powerful artistic statement inspires and enlightens.

John Stewart - California Bloodlines 1969
Issued in 1969, California Bloodlines is regarded by many to be singer/songwriter John Stewart's finest work. That's debatable, but it is a hell of an album. Stewart, who had finally left behind the Kingston Trio to pursue a solo career, solidified it here. Well known as the guy who wrote "Daydream Believer" for the Monkees, Stewart proved to be a credible, sometimes even enigmatic performer in his own right. Nick Venet produced California Bloodlines. He took Stewart to Nash Vegas and enlisted a host of studio cats who existed largely outside of Chet Atkins' countrypolitan mafia: drummer Kenneth A. Buttrey, bassist Norbert Putnam, harmonicat Charlie McCoy, Lloyd Green on pedal steel, and others, including the most sought-after upright pianist in country music history: Hargus "Pig" Robbins. Incidentally, many of these same musicians played on Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline session. Musically, California Bloodlines is a study in contradictions. Texturally thin like Stewart's voice, the songs are romantic visions of people and places that come out of a present which is already in the past and a past inhabited by ghosts. But this is also where Stewart excels lyrically. His portraits of spirits are made nearly flesh in his songs, which are ambitious lyrically if not musically, such as the title track, "The Pirates of Stone County Road," "Razor-Back Woman," "Some Lonesome Picker," "July You're a Woman," and "You Can't Look Back," with Green's pedal steel dancing throughout the melody and filling in each line. But perhaps the most beautiful track on the album is the elegiac "Missouri Birds," with its lilt and slow-stepped observations about space and time. And while generally regarded as a folk artist, Stewart's country roots are displayed here are as deep as Mickey Newbury's, even if he wasn't born in Texas. This is a glorious recording which kicks off an erratic yet never dull career with a bang.

Johnny Paycheck was the stage name of Donald Eugene Lytle (May 31, 1938 – February 19, 2003), a country music singer and Grand Ole Opry member most famous for recording the David Allan Coe song "Take This Job and Shove It". He achieved his greatest success in the 1970s as a major force in country music's "Outlaw Movement" popularized by artists such as David Allan Coe, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver and Merle Haggard. In the 1980s, his music career suffered from his problems with drugs, alcohol, and legal difficulties. He served a prison sentence in the early 1990s but his declining health effectively ended his career in early 2000.

Wesley Dennis (born April 22, 1963 in Clanton, Alabama) is an American country music artist. A native of Alabama, Dennis previously held a job installing car windshields before he took to singing in bars. In 1995, he signed to Mercury Nashville Records, releasing a self-titled debut album, and charting three singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. He also toured with Alan Jackson that same year.
Dennis's debut album was produced by Keith Stegall, who has also produced for Jackson, and was released on March 7, 1995 to mostly favorable reviews. New Country magazine critic Chris Dickinson gave it three-and-a-half stars out of five, calling him "as honestly neo-trad as they come", although he said that the tracks "This Hat Ain't No Act" and "Bubbaland" were "dime-a-gross." USA Today also gave a favorable review, comparing Dennis' vocals to those of Randy Travis, but criticizing "This Hat Ain't No Act" as a "trite" song

Here's one of the best groups to be signed by record company Hi-Hat! Vanha Isäntä won the national pop band contest in 1973, and debuted on vinyl with the single "Onkimiehen blues / Greensleeves" the following year. A second 7", "Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms / Pälkäne Backstep" changed their language from Finnish to English and the label from RCA to Hi-Hat.
For starters, here's the first album from 1975. It's subtitled "Music from Ireland, Scotland, Bretagne and North America, i.e. areas where Celtic-based folk music is still alive..." It contains material ranging from country and bluegrass to Irish dances, and a Lovin' Spoonful cover. All wrapped up in one of the funniest record sleeves ever. The artist is Mauri Kunnas, one of my favourite cartoonists, and his work on the front cover is so rich with details I decided to do the artwork at near maximum size, so you can examine the sleeve thoroughly. You'll certainly find many familiar characters among the horde of people: Jimi Hendrix, Adolf Hitler, Batman, Donald Duck, Albert Järvinen from Hurriganes, president Urho Kekkonen, Leonid Brezhnev, minister and politician Johannes Virolainen, Jeff from Kunnas' popular comic strip Kotlant Jaarti...
Vanha Isäntä followed this with three more albums, abandoning the celtic music for pure country and western.
TraAklist:
1. Mormon Breakdown
"An instrumental piece born half by accident - the first part of the verse is from the Irish folk song "Mormonbraes" and the rest follows the tradition of American banjo instrumentals."
2. Peach Pickin' Time in Georgia
"Great country yodeler Jimmie Rodgers' song in a ragtime-influenced arrangement."
3. An Suisín Bán
"An Irish tune, a so-called "set dance" picked from the setlist of The Chieftains."
4. Tramps and Hawkers
"One of the many tunes whose origins are disputed between the Irish and the Scottish."
5. Sweep Hornpipe / John Ryan's Polka
"Two slightly odder and less heard Irish dances: hornpipe and polka."
6. Jenny Drinks Nae Water
"Originally a Scottish dance, our arrangement is a bit more sensitive than usual."
7. Blue Ridge Mountain Blues
"One of many homestead songs about mountains in the bluegrass genre."
8. Stetson
"A dobro instrumental composed by Olli, performed by the composer himself with accompaniment by the band."
9. Farewell to Athenry: The Musical Priest / The Wind That Shakes the Barley
"Through these two reels we send our hellos to Christy Howley and our other hospitable Irish friends in the town of Athenry."
10. Darling Companion
"Lovin' Spoonful's song from ten years ago. Juha made good use of the studio by singing a duet with himself."
11. Hamilton County
"A typical American violin tune performed in breakdown style: every instrument gets its own part."
12. Humours of Schull
"At the Cambridge Folk Festival, the destination of our yearly studying trip, there's a band that's active for nearly 24 hours a day, playing a type of down-to-earth music that sounds approximately the same as our version of this reel."
13. Bretagnelainen sikermä
"The tune heard at the beginning and the end of this medley was taught to us in the summer of '74 by an Irish accordion player."
14. Going Down This Road
"A bluegrass classic - the lyrics exist in several different versions."
15. All I Ever Loved Was You
"A serious attempt to capture the wistful mood of slow bluegrass songs."
16. Old McLevander
"Seppo's banjo etude no. 2."

Freddy Weller was a member of Paul Revere & the Raiders who launched a solo career as a country singer at the end of the '60s, just as he started having success as a songwriter when his collaborations with Tommy Roe led to Roe having hits with their co-written numbers "Dizzy" and "Jam Up Jelly Tight." Clearly, Weller was not one to be pigeonholed, and as his career rolled on during the '70s, he continued to not quite follow a straight path. Although he was known as a songwriter, he had his biggest country hits with covers of pop and rock tunes from the '60s, taking Joe South's "Games People Play" to number one, Chuck Berry's "The Promised Land" to three, the same placing achieved by his cover of the Cowsills' "Indian Lake." He opened up his sound with a little bit of soul and mellow grooves, resulting in a stretch of smooth romantic hits. He dabbled in funny, tongue-in-cheek songs that gently lampooned '70s pop culture fads, such as "Fantasy Island" and "Bar Wars." Throughout it all, his music flowed easily and his warm, simple voice sold it convincingly, leading to 19 country Top 40 hits, all of which are collected on Collectors Choices' 22-track 2002 release The Very Best of Freddy Weller, which is surely the definitive overview of his career as a hitmaker. Weller's music is enjoyable if probably a little too relaxed and unassuming for its own good to be truly memorable, which may be why this is the first comprehensive overview ever assembled on him. His hits are easy-rolling and friendly, walking a line between traditional country and sweeter country-pop while taking a couple unexpected but related detours. It's very pleasant to hear, but it also sounds very much like its time. With that in mind, The Very Best of Freddy Weller can be recommended not just as a comprehensive overview/introduction of his music, but also as a period piece of sweet, pop-inflected '70s country that may not transcend its time but nevertheless evokes it nicely. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
22 tracks from the man who did as much as anyone to bring the influence of rock 'n' roll to the stodgy Nashville scene! And Freddy came by his rockin' roots honestly-he went from a two-year stint as guitarist for Paul Revere & the Raiders (detailed in the tune 'The Legend of Paul Revere & the Raiders') to a successful solo country career, bringing a new level of sexual frankness to country music as well as working with such top-notch talents as Spooner Oldham and Billy Sherrill. This exclusive anthology includes notes by Colin Escott featuring quotes from Freddy himself-essential '70s country, on CD for the first time! Collectors' Choice. 2003.

John Gale Horton (April 30, 1925–November 5, 1960), known professionally as Johnny Horton, was an American country music and rockabilly singer most famous for his semi-folk, so-called "saga songs" which began the "historical ballad" craze of the late 1950s and early 1960s. With them, he had several major successes, most notably during 1959 with the song "The Battle of New Orleans" which was awarded the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording. The song was awarded the Grammy Hall of Fame Award, and during 2001 ranked No. 333 of the Recording Industry Association of America's "Songs of the Century".
During 1960, Horton had two other successes with "North to Alaska" for John Wayne's movie, North to Alaska, and "Sink the Bismarck." Horton is a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

12 Songs is a 2005 album by Neil Diamond. It was his first album of all-original, all-new material since 2001's Three Chord Opera. It was produced by Rick Rubin and is often erroneously cited as the first Diamond album since the Bang Records era to feature the artist playing guitar.
The working title for the album was self-titled. The original pressing of the album was copy-protected using Sony's controversial XCP technology.
Initial work on the album began after Diamond had concluded his tour behind Three Chord Opera in 2002. Retreating to his Colorado cabin, Diamond found himself temporarily snowed in, and started to pass the time away by working on new material.
Not long afterward, Diamond met Rick Rubin. Rubin expressed interest in working with Diamond, and the two got together several times at each other's homes before ever going into the recording studio.
Rubin, using the artist's Bang and early Uni albums as a springboard, encouraged Diamond to keep writing material over the course of a year. Once the two collaborators had plenty of material at their disposal that they felt strongly about, Rubin put together some of the same musicians he had used for Johnny Cash's American Recordings releases, including Tom Petty sidemen Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and encouraged Diamond to play guitar himself in the studio. The sessions were also the last ever performance by organ player Billy Preston, who died in June 2006.
The end result, 12 Songs, ended up being one of Diamond's most successful and critically acclaimed studio albums in years, debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Rubin's influence would extend beyond the recording sessions, as the subsequent tour behind the album found Diamond using tougher-sounding arrangements of his classic songs with his longtime backing band, and playing more guitar onstage than he had done since the Hot August Night era.

Every now and then a new artist comes along that has the ability to shake things up in the music industry, WC Edgar is that artist. He’s been a dear friend of mine for almost twenty years as well as a former steel guitar player in my band.
As a songwriter WC is as good as they come and with a voice to match. You’ll hear vocal influences from Johnny Paycheck to David Allan Coe all delivered with an attitude that pulls no punches in letting the listening audience know who’s boss.
This new CD is hot and sure to gain attention in what used to be called ‘Music City USA’ Nashville. I especially enjoyed the line in track number four Modern Day Savior where he says ‘That Nashville Music’s’ done left town’, ain’t that the truth!
From listening to Man In The Backseat a song about the night Hank Williams died to the great songwriter hook in From Where I Sit (I can see where you stand) WC touches on everything from “hard core honky tonk” to “rodeo” to “let‘s get drunk” to “crank it up and let‘s rock”.
This is a great new CD and I love him like a brother!
