Green Challenge: Thin Mint Page This is my Girl Scout Thin Mint Page. Our very nice UPS guy gave Penelope her very own Thin Mint when he came to eat lunch one day. He is our Girl Scout provider for our cookie stash. We buy lots of Thin Mints from him every year. On this particular day I forgot the bib at home so we were wiping her hands every time we could so she would not make to much of a mess. She did rather well with it. I would like to change the little Nutrition Facts on the side so if anyone has any thoughts about the Thin Mints Let me know. I am trying to find a sample of what I am looking for. Our Deepest Fear Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. Asian Shrimp Salad Recipe: Pre cut coleslaw (I used the one with white cabbage, red cabbage and carrots) Handful of chopped basil Handful of chopped cilantro thinly sliced red pepper thinly sliced cucumber shrimp or shredded chicken or sliced steak Dressing: 1/4 cup vegetable oil (not olive oil or any other oil that will impart flavor) 2 tablespoons fish sauce 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar juice from one lime 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon seasme oil 1/4 teaspoon mild soy sauce 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (more or less depending on how spicy you want it) Wisk it all together, taste and adjust seasonings, pour over salad, toss well. Super easy and super fast. Especially if you buy your protein already cooked. Eated! As a meal this feeds two people nicely. As an appetizer it could feed 4-6 depending on what else you were serving. More Pickles, plus dinner I finally found lotus root, so to use it up I made a variety of lotus pickles. And, since I had my deep fryer out already, I made a potato side dish as well. These are all from my "Easy Japanese Pickling" book. The lemongrass shrimp, however, is from Nancie McDermott's "Quick and Easy Vietnamese." I just realized, I flipped the marinades for the Nambanzuke and the "Fried Style". The scallions are supposed to go with the "mentsuyu" style base ( with the chile), while the quartered sections should go with the bonito sauce. I guess I actually prefer the flavoring of the "Fried style," but I also really liked the onions with it. Oh well, I guess mistakes are bound to happen when you try to make a whole bunch of similar items at the same time. County Clerk's and Surrogate's Offices (Historical Museum, Historic Richmond Town) Historic Richmond Town, Staten Island, New York City, New York Richmondtown, in which this building is located, is an unusual survival of an early town and county center. It represents a cross section of development, varying from the late seventeenth to the late nineteenth century. Historically and geographically the center of Staten Island, Richmondtown is about seven miles from St. George and is located in LaTourette Park. The town is in process of restoration and reconstruction. Certain notable buildings on Staten Island, which would otherwise have been lost, have been moved to Richmondtown to insure their preservation. Some reconstructions are planned to fill in historical gaps. Some modern buildings, in character with their surroundings, will also be added to provide necessary services. Streets within the area will be closed to vehicular traffic; peripheral highways will give access to parking fields and to the visitors' entrance. The houses will eventually be completely furnished and shops equipped with tools to show how previous generations lived and worked. Quiet tree-lined streets, gardens and orchards will form an attractive part of the setting of the town. The Richmondtown Restoration, which includes this building within its boundaries, is the only project of its kind in the metropolitan region. It is administered by the Staten Island Historical Society under a contract between the Society and the New York City Department of Parks. The County Clerk's and Surrogate's Offices is a two-story brick office building located on its original site and built In a simplified Italianate style. The oldest section, built in 1848, was a one-story building. In 1858 a second story was added, in 1877 a wing and in 1917 an extension to the wing. All these additions are in keeping with the original structure. Abandoned in 1920, when the County Clerk's and Surrogate's Offices were moved to St. George, it was renovated and turned over to the Staten Island Historical Society in 1933-35 for use as an Historical Museum. History The first European colonists settled in the area that is now known as Richmondtown in about 1680, the date of the first land grant. In 1695 a combined church, school and home for the lay reader and school teacher, known as the Voorlezer, was built by the congregation of the Dutch Reformed Church. In 1696 the Dutch received a lease of land in Cocclestown (Richmondtown) upon which stood the Voorlezor's house. This hamlet was probably known as Cocclestown because of the heaps of oyster and clam shells or "coccles" left there by the departing Indians. Many of the buildings we see in Richmondtown today were built in the early part of the eighteenth century Including a church, a county house, a jail and several houses. The Revolution had little effect on this quiet community, except for the fact that the building and church were destroyed because the Dutch were believed be sympathetic to the rebel cause. In 1898 Staten Island became a borough of the City of New York, and the many county functions and offices which had been at Richmondtown were moved to St. George. By 1920 all the remaining offices had also been transferred. - From the 1969 NYCLPC Landmark Designation Report Michele Verno “The most important job of the county clerk is to make sure elections are honest and above board. Unfortunately, that has not always been the case here in Atlantic County. We need change and I will bring that change. This is my pledge to you: I will take politics out of the Clerk’s office. The rule of law will apply to all elections – no exceptions. Ballots will be counted as ‘one man, one vote.'" honeychile i take you anywheres This is NHPD Lieutenant Rives King Bellefontaine straight out of New Orleans Cajun country. Wheee! Growing up near the New Orleans area and having Cajun friends around me was always an entertainment. So I was inspired by that and talking with Kaitlyn about something TOTALLY UNRELATED to create him. He is a hard core cop who just so happens to be a really rare human, sans ghouls, that knows of the creatures that lurk in the darkness. *cue epic movie music pls* Uploaded for Kaitlyn by her demand! Yes BOSSY is her new theme song and she rocks it so much better than Kelis! Biography: Rives was born not in the stylish French Quarter of New Orleans, but in a shack by a swamp. He was raised around the animals that lived there, learning from his mother not only to respect the animals but protect yourself as well. It was something she always tried to do for him, protect that is, nearly costing her life when she saved his young one from the men who were after his father. A pan of grease was sitting on the stove where she was about to cook, the contents catching and thrown onto her face and body. Rives watched in horror as she caught fire before his eyes, he screaming and trying to run to her but held back by the gang members as they laughed. It was that life changing moment that made the little boy turn away from the life he most likely would have fallen into. Instead, with his horribly scared mother, Rives lived his life devoted to breaking up the New Orleans gangs. Finding himself deep undercover in the midst of their drug world for years until a bust went wrong and his cover was blown. He had to get away then, thankful by this time he mother was gone and not there to see her son lay in a hospital bed for months recovering before he left the city for good. Arriving here to start over in a new police department and a new city he is ready to get back to what he is best at, being a cop. P.S. Did I mention he is devoted to his religion? A very devout Voodoo man before you . . . so if anyone hears things about animals going missing for religious sacrifice you know where they going :O 3 little pigs Mother Pig sends her three little piglets out into the world to "seek their fortune". The first little pig builds a house of straw, but a wolf blows it down and eats the pig. The encounter between wolf and pig features ringing proverbial phrases: One day the big bad wolf came and knocked on the first little pig's door and said, "Little pig, little pig, let me come in." And the little pig answered, "No, no, I won't let you come in, not by the hair on my chinny chin chin." "Well," said the wolf, "then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in." So he huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down and swallowed the first pig. The second pig builds a house of sticks, has the same conversation with the wolf, who huffs and puffs the house down and swallows the second pig. The third pig builds a house of bricks. The wolf cannot huff and puff hard enough to blow the house down. He attempts to trick the third little pig out of his house, but the pig outsmarts him at every turn. Finally, the wolf threatens to come down the chimney, whereupon the third little pig boils a pot of water into which the wolf plunges. In some versions, the pig cooks the wolf into a stew and eats him. In recent years, the story has been retold in softer tone. In these retellings, no one is eaten; the two less prudent pigs escape to their brother's house, while the wolf escapes rather than being fatally boiled. Three Little Pigs is a fairy tale featuring talking animals. Published versions of the story date back to the late 18th century, but the story is thought to be much older. The phrases used in the story, and the various morals which can be drawn from it, have become enshrined in western culture. HOW LONG TO COOK MY TURKEY : HOW LONG TO
How Long To Cook My Turkey : Zutto Rice Cooker. How Long To Cook My Turkey
Another Smoked Turkey story The first time we ever smoked a turkey was about 14 years ago. We had purchased a Weber charcoal smoker and since we had company coming for a few days thought a smoked turkey would save alot of cooking time. We didn't know that you were supposed to 'cure' a smoker before using it. Our first butterball came out looking like a black plastic turkey if you can imagine that. When our company, ( my mom, Aunt Martha and her friend Fay) arrived, I noticed my aunt looking at the turkey on the counter suspiciously. Finally she couldn't stand it any longer and asked me 'What the hell is that?" Because I was born a smart aleck I couldn't resist playing with her a bit. I told her that I wasn't much of a cook but that I wanted to bake a turkey in honor of her visit. [Keep in mind this turkey is solid BLACK.] After I watched her eyes widen in horror, I told the truth that we had smoked it. Since we were new at smoking we didn't know it wasn't supposed to look like that. Once we pulled the skin off though it was heavenly instead. She loved it and talked about how good it was her entire visit. We continued to smoke turkeys but never had one turn jet black again until a few years later. My aunt had suffered a stroke and the family in Louisiana was gathering before she was taken off life support. We weren't able to travel there but the day she passed away, we smoked a turkey and it was just as black as my first one. I couldn't help but think of her looking at the turkey and laughing when I did. Eleven - Merry Christmas The festive season is upon us. We are all together round one table, first time in four months. This is very unusual for our family, it has been just us four for a very long time, and it's nice to be in each other's company. George got back from Russia without any major problems, thankfully, so we all planned a nice Christmas Dinner, opened our presents and celebrated this day the English way. It was definitely fun dressing up! I am so looking forward to New Years. I just want this year to be over. Christmas made me reflect on the past few hundred days. It feels like so much has happened in such a small amount of time. I'm just glad I have managed to actually do what I have always wanted to do, study Photography at a decent University outside of London. George achieved his Year Abroad and my parents are getting by, without us. No reason to fret, time flies so fast George will be back home for another few years probably, in about six months and summer holidays will come knocking by like I haven't even left home. I am very anxious to find out how next year will pan out. How I finish my first year at University, whether I'll find a job which I genuinely enjoy, manage to maintain my relationship with Peter, where I'll be living, or who I'll be living with my next academic year. Who knows. I might just find myself round the same table, eating a home cooked Christmas dinner, wondering what 2012 will be like... Fact #11 - I miss being in a big family. Mmmm One of my favorites: Filet Mignon with a peppercorn brandy demi glace. Asparagus in a lemon butter and potatos with rosemary and balsamic. For the recipes to share group: Lightly salt the filets with sea salt and saute a couple of minutes on each side then transfer to an oven. In the skillet, add some minced scallions to the beef fat for about a minute. Pour in about 1/4 cup of brandy. Tip the skillet AWAY from you until the brandy catches fire. Mix in 1/2 cup of demi glace (should be in the meat dept. of a good grocery store). Add some crushed green peppercorns. In about 2 minutes, add a little bit of heavy cream. Let that cook for a bit and pour it over the filets. Top with some fresh thyme (which I always forget in the fridge as I did above). 2/14/2011 ~ Day (something): Happy Valentine's Day! My favorite red wine, filet cooked perfectly and fork tender, steamed brussel sprouts, oven roasted asparagus, sauteed mushrooms and caprese (made with a variety of heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozeralla, fresh basil, balsamic glaze and a drizzle of truffle oil) and red velvet cupcake from Just Cupcakes for dessert. Absolute perfection! This and knowing how very loved I am ... I couldn't ask for a better Valentine's Day! MORPHY SLOW COOKER - SLOW COOKER
Morphy Slow Cooker - Dalek Cookie Jar. Morphy Slow Cooker
Paul Morphy Hello my friends todays painting is someone who is my favorite chess player , you see playing chess is something I enjoy as much as I do painting, I've been playing chess before I discovered girls so you can say it was my first love, chess causes less trouble than girls and doesn't tax the mind as much haha , but this site isn't about chess its a art site,so I wont go on and on about chess, anyway this guy name is Paul Morphy and he was Born to a well-to-do family in New Orleans, Paul Morphy became quite a strong player (thanks largely to the fact that his father – a Judge who also served in the House of Representatives from 1825-1829 – was an avid chess fan) by the age of eight. His uncle Ernest, known as the “Chess King of New Orleans,” played the young Paul often, and this undoubtedly had a major impact on his nephew’s quick rise in strength. In fact, Paul became so strong that he was able to blindfold himself and still beat Ernest (who had full sight of the board) at the age of twelve! Paul wasn't only skilled at chess, he also excelled in his academic pursuits and, by the tender age of nineteen, he had earned his law degree and admission to the bar (he had memorized the entire Civil code of Louisiana!). Unfortunately, Morphy’s scholastic success was a bit too quick for his own good – it wasn’t legal to practice law at that age. With time to kill, he decided to travel and play chess. Morphy was, perhaps, the most famous person in the world (it’s been said that he enjoyed greater notoriety than the Beatles did in their heyday). Courted by royalty, politicians, and the “in” crowd, Paul was invited to endless functions, balls, dinners, operas, and who knows what else.I wish I could report a happy continuation to this genius’ life, but that wasn’t the case. Viewed as a chess professional (though he stridently insisted that chess could never be a profession, and that it was merely a pleasurable game, not to be taken too seriously), his career in law never got off the ground. Depression followed, and when a woman refused his offer of marriage by telling him that he was “a mere chessplayer,” he retreated farther into isolation. In time he began to manifest symptoms of deep paranoia, and insisted that someone was trying to poison him and that others wanted to set fire to his clothing. At this point he would only eat food prepared by his mother and he had little to do with anyone other than family members and a small group of friends.Bobby Fischer said that, given time to study modern theory and ideas, Morphy would beat any modern player (except Fischer, of course!).Morphy's final years were tragic. Depressed, he spent his last years wandering around the French Quarter of New Orleans, talking to people no one else could see, and having feelings of persecution. Morphy was found dead in his bathtub on the afternoon of July 10, 1884 by his mother. The doctor said he had suffered congestion of the brain (stroke), brought on by entering cold water after being very warm from his long mid-day walk. He died at the age of only forty-seven.on a interesting sidenote where Paul Morphy lived or known as the The Morphy mansion, sold by the family in 1891, is today the site of Brennan's, a famous New Orleans restaurant. 15Ş SECOM: Galera do Calco com a equipe da Morphy :) No dia 23/09/2010 o diretor de negocios e planejamento da Morphy, Marlon Souza, palestrou na 15? (17) Best end of Cornish lamb with confit shoulder, provençale vegetables, baby spinach and thyme jus One of Chef Ramsay's original classics, I found this glamorous tower a little – dare I say it? – pedestrian. The lamb, prepared to a loving medium rare, lacked a richness in flavour, tasting almost bland. That was the disappointing part, where the flavours didn't live up to the pretty plating. Despite these limitations, the root vegetables were very well cooked. I enjoyed the coin like medallions of confit lamb shoulder which were concentrated with flavour, but their texture was a little tough (making me question how these muscle fibres could be stringy after being confit in fat?). Salvaging that latter fact, I did appreciate the thin sear at the top of the mini-medallions and the bit of crust it created. The sauce was decent, having a smooth texture that coated each mouthful of meat, while the dollops of white cream of celery added a unctuous but faintly starchy component to the dish. Lamb Medallions with shallots, tarragon, and red wine Mr. Bittman again. As tasty as it was it will take a very special occasion to make it again, because if I learned anything it's that lamb ain't cheap. You're looking at $12 worth of meat right there. But cost aside, it was not only really good but also quick and easy. Simple Cream of Onion Soup - For Mother's Day [Recipe 015] My mom likes soups, so I went ahead and made her some for Mother's Day. I looked through the soup book I have and chose this since it was simple yet sounded very tasty. It definitely was tasty and my mom liked it a lot too! I modified the recipe from the soup book a little bit by omitting some extra onions you could cook and add separately near the end of the recipe. Recipe • 4oz/1 stick of butter • 1? - 2lbs (4 medium sized) yellow onions • 1 bay leaf • 7tbsp dry white vermouth • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth • 1 cup heavy cream • salt & pepper • chopped chives for garnish Melt the butter in a large pan/pot. Once butter is melted, add chopped onions and bay leaf. Stir so that all onions are covered in butter. Cover pot and let it cook on low flame for about 30 minutes while mixing it once in awhile. The onions should be soft and tender but not browned. Add the vermouth and increase the heat. Let it boil until most of the liquid has evaporated. Add the stock. Add about 1tsp of salt and pepper. Bring to a boil then lower the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat. Leave it to cool then discard the bay leaf and process the soup in a blender or food processor. Return the soup to the rinsed pan. Add the heavy cream and reheat gently until hot but not boiling. Taste and adjust the seasoning. Serve in a bowl sprinkled with chopped chives. How to cook a simple sausage casserole Follow these 6 simple steps top left to bottom right: Required: A oven-proof lidded casserole dish One sausage casserole mix ( see comments) 1.0 Slice one onion and a tomato (mind fingers!) 2.0 Add one tin of baked beans (large or small) 3.0 Pre-cook as many large sausages as required, these are Pork & Apple. 4.0 Add cooked sliced sausages and sauce (mixed) to casserole dish (replace cover!) 5.0 Cook for 1 hour at 190C (do NOT sleep during this crucial time) 6.0 Add already cooked vegetables as required (eat THEN sleep) Follow the above precisely (or near enough) and you will be delighted with the result. Quaker Oats Plant View of Quaker Oats and other industrial site from the I-380 bridge in Cedar Rapids - this is the only point we were able to cross the Cedar River to get back to Iowa City. We came from Chicago through Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Ely. The drive from Iowa City to Chicago normally takes 3.5hrs, with this flood route it took 7.5 hours. Quaker Oats In this world of mergers and buy outs I am not entirely sure this factory is still Quaker Oats, but for me it will always be known as Quaker Oats, a Peterborough landmark. I do have to say though I didn't smell the cooking oats. Sad:-) It was a familiar smell growing up. WHAT IS THE ANARCHIST COOKBOOK - THE BEST COOKBOOK What Is The Anarchist Cookbook
TSAs @ LAX thought I like to play Bomberman IRL. "Scan check lane five." I was staring at what looked like a Jackson Pollack where someone inverted the colors in PhotoShop. I tried to prevent any time loss. I said, "It's an xbox, with four controllers" The tsa peered through the acrylic into the guts, then said "It's, blue." I told her "My friend is a Kentucky fan, he painted it before he gave it to me." "We will need to rescan it." This took forever, then the box got rubbed down with a chemical wetnap. Wetnap was then tossed into what I assume was a spectrum analyzer. Nope, I have not read the Anarchist's cookbook. She then lets me go to my gate. what is love? love is simple. few days ago i went for hiking up the mountain in Lecco. it was quite hot that day. while i and my friends were having a rest, these two elderlies were just crossing beyond us. it was so beautiful of the scene. they were not forging quickly, but step by step, hand in hand. it was not about the hiking or physical training, it was about the LOVE.
