Hot Wheels on ice Winter driving is tricky. Yesterday I got myself into a big mess (reenacted today with my favorite Hot Wheels). There I was wedged sideways in a snowbank, chains broken and wrapped around the axel, shoveling like a madwoman and saying some very bad words. Fortunately I was almost home, Hubby came down and between the two of us we got the car out OK, no harm done besides a couple of sore backs and pouty faces. The joys of winter! A speckled colour-changing Hot Wheels Ferrari Testarossa. Around 1990 or so, Mattel introduced a line of special Hot Wheels cars with temperature-sensitive paint. I found this Hot Wheels Ferrari Testarossa in a box the other week, and I was surprised to find that the colour-changing feature still worked well, so I poured hot water on it to turn it yellow, and then used some ice to draw red splotches on it. Wheel Thrown Pin Pendant combo in Smoky blue and crystal clear The colors on this piece are cool cool blues, as well as dark burgundy/black a spot of purple and wonderful crystal clear. The Size is 4.5 cm or over 1 3/4 inches in diameter It can be worn as a pin on your hat, scarf, jacket, purse, ect. ect. but also and most commonly worn as a necklace. The bail suits most chains, cord, omegas, string, ribbon. So this piece can be worn in so many ways and with your favorite neckline. The photo is to show how the pendant will hang on a semi rigid cord, on a chain it hangs lower but with the same invisible setting look. This piece comes with your choice of around 10 different necklaces to wear it on. I typically offer a magnetic clasp metal cord or a black or clear rubber cord with my pin pendants, but they come in many lengths and types so please contact me about them The Piece itself has been fused with Stained Glass during the Kiln-firing process. I have combined many kinds of glass (clear, opaque, milky, and different colors) The Glasses become liquid and bleed into each other in the kiln swirling ands blending at the edges. Finally as I cool the kiln the glass fractures and crackles but with a smooth glass top. The crackling refracts light and glistens in the sun Glee Artie Abrams A small plushie of Artie Abrams (played by Kevin McHale) from the tv show Glee. This was made for my best friend for her belated birthday. She is a huge fan of the show (appropriately called a Gleek) and Artie is her second favorite characrer after Tina. He stands at about 14 centimeters/7.5 inches tall. The body is made from felt and the hair is made from yarn. I made the sweater, but not the knit material it's made from. The wheelchair wasn't that well made, but it's made from wire and covered in felt and rubber on the wheels. It is entirely handmade (even the glasses) and made from my own pattern. It was completed in roughly one week. HOW TO BUILD A SPINNING WHEEL : A SPINNING WHEEL
How To Build A Spinning Wheel
Day 346 - Josué's new robot This past year for Christmas, Melinda gave me a robot kit. I brought it back to El Salvador with me, but then it just sat in its box for several months. As I was cleaning my things out last week, I found it again, but at the time, I was planning on going on a trip to Honduras, so I didn't think I would be able to build it. In the end, the trip to Honduras got canceled for obvious reasons, so today I had a couple of hours to build the robot. Josue watched me the whole time, asking millions of questions. I did my best to explain to him resistors, transistors, capacitors, motors, and gears. He now has a basic but crude understanding of how the whole thing works. The robot is fairly simple—the front wheel swings 45 degrees to one side, and a crude differential on the rear axle lets the rear wheels spin in opposite directions. The black snout is actually a microphone, which responds to hand-claps or collision with furniture by reversing the direction of the motor for a few seconds. When the motor spins forward, the robot goes in a straight line. When it spins backward, the front wheel turns and the differential kicks in, so that the whole thing makes a 90 degree turn before starting to go forward again. Once I got it built, we let it run all over the house. Later in the week we're going to take it to the basketball court and see how it performs there. When I take off, I'll leave it with Josue. Turbo windmill, the "spinning" version of spailboat. Prototype turbo windmill, under construction right now. See technical drawings. The positions of -, and lift transferences by, the blades in the spailboat-family are all firstly stabilized. Scaling up is possible, because of stability. I know by now, this makes no sence to most of you. But it is stability which is the parameter to build big. I mean, how big could a piramide possible be, when built in a tree? Building in trees, instead of on the ground, is not smart, but still, conventional sailing boats and conventional modern wind turbines hang their sails / blades in trees, so to speak, while wind -, and kite surfers and turbo windmills are like the piramides built on the very ground. Windsurfers and kitesurfers are stable compositions, sailing boats are not stable, and therefore wind -, and kite surfers can be sized up with enormous proportions, in addition to be made as strong as possible, while sailing boats have reached maximum size long ago. Even the strongest sailing boat flips. It is no wonder that ever since the introduction of the steam machine, boats were driven by it, and later, by other kind of engines / motors. Normalizing the lift transference is exactly the same as using wheels instead of the slide. MARCHESINI FORGED ALUMINUM WHEELS. MARCHESINI FORGED
Marchesini Forged Aluminum Wheels
1198SP But to keep at Bay the 170 HP and torque of 13.4 kgm-twin, Testastretta survival instinct, we think the Ducati Traction Control (DTC) that in these situations is particularly appreciated. Already by the 1198 is a sight to enjoy, but this version SP, with all its precious pieces, is really to be put in the living room, perhaps during the week, while weekend must bring it to the track. What about aluminum tank, nice to look at, but incredibly lightweight (-1 kg and + 2lt capacity), as well as lightweight and attractive look forged wheels are seven-spoke Marchesini. Two steles Ohlins 43 mm and Tin surface treatment are the gambling leader at the front, while the same service provider is the mono, a super adjustable rear and exclusive TTXR, as well as the Steering damper. The ROAR emitted from exhaust 2-1-2 takes you to the throat, baritone, bass and puts the willies every opening of gas, while the new entry, the Ducati Quick Shift (Shifter) is a must that you appreciate not just crossed the threshold of the runway. Bam, in the second, third and fourth one behind the other as if they were shot, and wafting a roar Testastretta exhilarating. First down two gears, braking and outgoing I touch the gas for the SP curve means shoot at you out of the front that eases, but maintains contact with the soil (for now ...). Finally the Supercorsa begin to "cling", and then start to mistreat the gas knob. Result? The 1198 SP wants to take over and put it under, but resist and begin a fight which ends only with the checkered flag that indicates the end of the round on track. Craft. There lots of craft to ride well this superbike, unlike 848 Evo that comparison is much more "human". On the other hand the satisfaction that you can give the SP are enormous. Requires both a physical and mental effort, not the need to drive clean as his younger sister, here you must drive "bad", so that all the pieces of the puzzle are in place and the bike behaves "good". Or better ... well almost, because the front wants to pass over their heads constantly accelerating in the first three marches out of the curve, while the rear wheel, in the absence of DTC would at least double the speed compared to the front! Guarantee of effectiveness in every situation for the braking system, which proves the ability of any good pilot. Hard put to narrow, unless you're professional pilots. Much easier to notice of the action of the slipper, which works well and allows to keep the rear of the controllable 1198 SP even when exaggerates in detached. In a fraction of a second in which connect with the outside world, I see a man waving a checkered flag is finita. He conveys this motorcycle are unique! O meglio…quasi Wiseco Forged Aluminum Pistons New forged aluminum pistons. These are the centerpiece of the rebuild.. Yes I got the sticker in there on purpose. Chowk was once renowned for its beautiful dancing girls called Tawaifs , this intoxication of dance was known as Mujra.. households were lost on the beauty of a Tawaif.. a cultured prostitute , it was Adab and Tehzeeb,, etiquette, manners and deportment. The Nawabs of Oudh I am told by an old wizened man in the Pata Nala area where I was born, were passionately crazy about this leisurely pastime... the other was love for little boys too, .. fortunes were spent on finding a nice doe eyed little boy who would be the apple of his owners pride. And jealousies, the tenderness of these little souls in their feminine charms and guile. The Nawabs loved pigeons or flying pigeons , this was known as Kabutarbazi.. racing pigeon from the roofs of their Havelis.. rare species of pigeons like Shirazis, Fantails, and other imported varieties. Kite flying was a hobby that was in their blue blood called Patang bazi..kite fights, the razored thread and the delicacy of cutting the string of your opponents kite. WHAT IF ? - "...IRON MAN DATED MS. MARVEL" (BEST SEEN IN THE FAST LANE ON VALENTINE'S DAY) CAROL- "So I said to Cap, You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow...." TONY- "Everyone wants to be Tony Stark. Even I want to be Tony Stark" CAROL- "Find me an Iron Man who's interesting enough to fly with and I'll be happy." TONY- "My father used to say, 'Let them see the suit and not you.' " BOTH- "Sorry....what did you say?" Office romances. So unprofessional. And yet....Tony Stark and Carol Danvers do strike sparks off each other every time they meet and especially so when they've got each others backs when teamed up in the mighty Avengers. Iron Man and Ms. Marvel. Whew. "Evil doers prepare to be evil don'ters." Meanwhile, the top is up, the sun is shining and the open road's ahead.... " 'Nuff said." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a little consideration I decided to go with this pic as my Valentine's Day shot for 2009. Gail and I went for a drive in the country and had fun shooting a series of travelling toys. Specifically, Ms. Marvel and one of the Iron Man movie figures sitting in the Hasbro Iron Man Roadster. I held them up on the dashboard and shot through their windscreen and ours. Experimented a lot with altering the depth of field and then played with the footage afterwards in Photoshop. This particular frame is a composite of a sequence shot on the run out of Melbourne, just south of the Docklands on the run up to the approaches of the West Gate Bridge. The windshield of the toy car is steeply raked and when bouncing around throws off all kinds of interesting and hard to predict distortions. It was a fun trip, I felt a bit like we were filming a couple of stars in a classic movie, hence the cross purposes dialogue filched from Cary Grant and Lauren Bacall from various contexts. The toy car is configured for left hand drive, U.S style, which is wrong for Australia. Then again, if Tony built the car, then he maybe doesn't NEED a steering wheel at all, and can perhaps control it via his armour's interface anyway.....I wonder if he's told Carol that yet? ;) Batman - 1st Issue BATMOBILE No. 267 with ORIGINAL BOX, PLINTH and ALL EXTRAS by Corgi Toys The cardboard ring was put around the cockpit windshield during packing. Hanham Cricket Club c1910 image above: Hanham Cricket Club c1910 (names not kinown) Modern-day Hanham Cricket Club was founded in its current form in the early 1950's but has strong connections to the previous club which played from the middle years of the last century. Including performances from the good Dr W.G.Grace and his brothers. When W.G.'s brother Dr Henry Grace left their Downend home he established a practice at Hanham, and took charge of the local cricket team, often inviting W.G. to play with them. Here is another anecdote which indicates the effects of the economic depression on people's lives The clanking trains during the years around 1930 suffered competition from a rowdy, robust newspaper seller who sat in a mobile chair for handicapped people, and outdid the clanging of the tram-wheels by shouting 'Paper', which was the Evening Times. Mr Daiziel, for that was his name, told me he had injured his leg in the first world war, but had been refused a pension. However, a policeman informed me that he developed rheumatism from diving into the River Avon to rescue the many suicides in those days. Mr Dalziel confirmed that he supplemented his income by such deeds, adding that he allowed the bodies to float down the river beyond the Bristol boundary, because he was paid some ten shillings for every body he recovered by the Bristol Authority, but only received five shillings for a similar operation from the Gloucestershire Authority. 'Glass That Would Bend' How new technology changed the face of market gardening. Not all was doom and gloom. For some businesses the thirties offered the possibility of applying new techniques and products Hubert Dearnley describes the extent of market gardening, while Jack Bateman recounts how success brought prosperity to at least one family concern: Market Gardening There was never any official boundary between the Kingswood and Hanham communities, although the separatist feeling persisted up to post-war years. There was, however, a green belt of market gardens holding the two communities apart. This buffer state of market gardens spread from the Bristol city boundary in Magpie Bottom in the west to Greenbank Road on the east. The fertile southern slopes below Mount Hill Road up to the rear of Victoria and Beechwood Avenues were substantially the present Woodyleaze Estate. This area was intensively worked by several families, such as the Whitchurch and Bateman families. Similarly, the western valley of Footshill and Magpie Bottom were 'extensively worked' by the Sampson family. On the horticultural scene in the 1930's arrived a Walter Victor Bateman, with an honours degree in horticulture from Cambridge. He was to change the whole of West Gloucestershire. He became the manager of H. Copp & Co. Prattens of Midsomer Norton covered several acres of south-facing land with an overhead watering system 'Walter Victor's'. The idea was that plants absorbed as much water through their foliage as they took through their roots. I was apprenticed to W. V. Bateman, and learnt to pollinate Begonias with a rabbit's tail in an attempt to produce a black Begonia. It was never accomplished, but he had me spellbound. Albert and Bert Copp went to the Royal Agricultural Show and came back with more radical ideas than W.V.B.; glass that would bend. Perspex had just been discovered. Perspex meant that one could put a greenhouse anywhere. Another innovation was to pump it up like a big half-grapefruit. Bert and Albert Copp covered all the land in Tabernacle Road in this glass. It held heat from the sun and did not conduct the cold. It did not replace glass' too many people had interests in timber and glass. W. V. Bateman was one, H. Praten, who made the greenhouses was another. Henry Copp & Co grew cultivated mushrooms for the first time, and after the Royal Horticultural Show he came home with the first portable greenhouse. It was like a wigwam, you could move it over blackcurrant bushes, strawberries, fresh flowers and outdoor tomatoes. It was about two weeks in front of every other nursery man, and so received a better price. I had changed my job again, and my motorcycle for a twin Enfield with a side-car for light haulage. I hauled fruit to the Bristol market in the early mornings. Eric and I had a stall in Nicholas Street. By the 'nails' we prospered. Harry Copp became the purveyor of soft fruits for the West Country. I went to work for him for more money.
