How To Build A Spinning Wheel

    spinning wheel
  • An apparatus for spinning yarn or thread, with a spindle driven by a wheel attached to a crank or treadle

  • a small domestic spinning machine with a single spindle that is driven by hand or foot

  • A throbber is a graphic found in a graphical user interface of a computer program (especially a web browser) that animates to show the user that the program is performing an action (such as downloading a web page).

  • A spinning wheel is a device for spinning thread or yarn from natural or synthetic fibers.

  • (How To’s) Multi-Speed Animations

  • Practical advice on a particular subject; that gives advice or instruction on a particular topic

  • Providing detailed and practical advice

  • A how-to or a how to is an informal, often short, description of how to accomplish some specific task. A how-to is usually meant to help non-experts, may leave out details that are only important to experts, and may also be greatly simplified from an overall discussion of the topic.

  • Incorporate (something) and make it a permanent part of a structure, system, or situation

  • build up: form or accumulate steadily; "Resistance to the manager's plan built up quickly"; "Pressure is building up at the Indian-Pakistani border"

  • Construct (something, typically something large) by putting parts or material together over a period of time

  • Commission, finance, and oversee the building of (something)

  • construct: make by combining materials and parts; "this little pig made his house out of straw"; "Some eccentric constructed an electric brassiere warmer"

Day 346 - Josué's new robot

Day 346 - Josué's new robot

This past year for Christmas, Melinda gave me a robot kit. I brought it back to El Salvador with me, but then it just sat in its box for several months. As I was cleaning my things out last week, I found it again, but at the time, I was planning on going on a trip to Honduras, so I didn't think I would be able to build it. In the end, the trip to Honduras got canceled for obvious reasons, so today I had a couple of hours to build the robot. Josue watched me the whole time, asking millions of questions. I did my best to explain to him resistors, transistors, capacitors, motors, and gears. He now has a basic but crude understanding of how the whole thing works.

The robot is fairly simple—the front wheel swings 45 degrees to one side, and a crude differential on the rear axle lets the rear wheels spin in opposite directions. The black snout is actually a microphone, which responds to hand-claps or collision with furniture by reversing the direction of the motor for a few seconds. When the motor spins forward, the robot goes in a straight line. When it spins backward, the front wheel turns and the differential kicks in, so that the whole thing makes a 90 degree turn before starting to go forward again.

Once I got it built, we let it run all over the house. Later in the week we're going to take it to the basketball court and see how it performs there. When I take off, I'll leave it with Josue.

Turbo windmill, the "spinning" version of spailboat.

Turbo windmill, the

Prototype turbo windmill, under construction right now.
See technical drawings.

The positions of -, and lift transferences by, the blades in the spailboat-family are all firstly stabilized. Scaling up is possible, because of stability. I know by now, this makes no sence to most of you. But it is stability which is the parameter to build big. I mean, how big could a piramide possible be, when built in a tree? Building in trees, instead of on the ground, is not smart, but still, conventional sailing boats and conventional modern wind turbines hang their sails / blades in trees, so to speak, while wind -, and kite surfers and turbo windmills are like the piramides built on the very ground. Windsurfers and kitesurfers are stable compositions, sailing boats are not stable, and therefore wind -, and kite surfers can be sized up with enormous proportions, in addition to be made as strong as possible, while sailing boats have reached maximum size long ago. Even the strongest sailing boat flips. It is no wonder that ever since the introduction of the steam machine, boats were driven by it, and later, by other kind of engines / motors.

Normalizing the lift transference is exactly the same as using wheels instead of the slide.
