We have really everything in common with America nowadays except, of course, language.
A lifetime of happiness! No man alive could bear it: it would be hell on earth.
It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare.
In America, they want you to accomplish these great feats, to pull off these David Copperfield-type stunts. You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?
Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain.
When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.
I've grown to realize the joy that comes from little victories is preferable to the fun that comes from ease and the pursuit of pleasure.
