Early cultures, which viewed education as a system of absorbing a well-defined subject matter, offered little opportunity for speculation.

Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict.
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
I feel about airplanes the way I feel about diets. It seems to me they are wonderful things for other people to go on.
The most beautiful adventures are not those we go to seek.
Everybody likes to go their own way--to choose their own time and manner of devotion.
To achieve great things we must live as though we were never going to die.
But be, as you have been, my happiness...
