HRVATSKI NBA AMBASADOR PROMIJENIO ADRESU: Gira u 76erse, Korver u Jazzere...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

BACK ON THE EASTSIDE: GIRA JE NAKON KUKOČA DRUGI HRVATSKI KOŠARKAŠ NA ROSTERU 76ERSA...

scout, Philadelphia 76ers

Gira novi Sixer!

Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that the Sixers have acquired guard Gordan Giricek and a first-round pick from the Utah Jazz in exchange for guard Kyle Korver.

"We are excited about acquiring a player of Gordan's ability, as well as an additional asset in the form of a first-round draft pick," Stefanski said. "This move will provide us with increased salary cap flexibility this off-season and also allows us to continue our evaluation and development of the young talent we have on this team."

"On behalf of the entire Sixers organization, I want to thank Kyle for the positive impact he has made on this team and the city of Philadelphia through his play on the court and, even more importantly, his philanthropic efforts off of it," Stefanski said.

CIBONA vs UNICAJA by REPRIZA.NET

Probati ću to nadoknaditi večeras, prije sutrašnjeg predbožićnog shoppinga...

"You have to many offensive tallents, and no blue-collars to support them"

TIAGO SPLITTER

Lana Banely...

Bitna stvar: Larry Ayuso NIKADA nije rekao niti riječ protiv svojeg trenera.

A to se ne postiže kada jedan od 20 ponajboljih cro-košarkaša at the moment Lukša Andrić protiv skakačko dominantne momčadi dobije ŠEST MINUTA i gleda kako REMEMBER THE NAME: Boniface N'Dong 'lijepi Hoskina...

Utah Jazz: Sloan boots Giricek as feud boils over

..upravo sam pratio tekmu između Girinih Jazzera i Bobcatsa, i već kad sam mislio ugasit i zabit se u jastuke, na scenu stupa Giriček ;-) izgleda da je tokom time-outa negdje pred kraj druge četvrtine nešto prigovorio Sloanu i ovaj ga je dosta ljut poslao u svlačionicu...ajajaj mozda jos bude na half-time emisiji...upravo sam vidio snimku...Sloan onako čući u krugu ekipe, pokazuje preme svlačionici i dere se na Giru "go to the lockeroom, go to the lockeroom", tipovi sa half.time showa kažu da je Gira vjerovatno nešto rekao starom..Iggypop, NBA.BLOG.HR

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jazz guard Gordan Giricek wasn't backing down from the shouting match, coach Jerry Sloan was pointing toward the exit and assistant coach Tyrone Corbin was trying to step in between the two.

That was the scene during a timeout with 7:50 left in the second quarter, when Giricek and Sloan had it out. Giricek was sent to the locker room for the rest of the game and afterward suspended for the final two games of this road trip.

It was the culmination of a month's worth of tension between the two. Giricek lost his job as the backup shooting guard 13 games into the season and didn't get off Sloan's bench at all on the Jazz's trip to Detroit, New York and Philadelphia.

The Jazz did not officially announce that Giricek was suspended, but the decision to send him home might as well have amounted to that. Giricek declined to comment on specifics afterward aside from saying he had done nothing wrong.

It wasn't clear if Giricek and Sloan even spoke after the game. The guard was told that he would not be flying with the team outside the locker room by trainer Gary Briggs.

"No. I don't know," Giricek said after being asked if he wants out of Utah — and before he was informed he would not be permitted to travel with the team to Orlando, where the Jazz visit the Magic on Friday.

"My agent (Marc Fleisher)," Giricek added, "is going to talk to Kevin (O'Connor, the Jazz's general manager)... It's actually gonna be taken care of, right? Everything can be fixed, right? So, we'll see." (source: Tim Buckley/Desert Morning News)

Giricek and Sloan have long had an uneasy relationship and Giricek went to general manager Kevin O'Connor earlier this month to say that enough was enough, he'd probably stayed in Utah too many years and that he wanted to move on.

It is Giricek's belief that Sloan has fostered a perception that he is a weak defender, while Giricek repeatedly says that he was one of the best defensive players in Europe. Giricek is in the final year of his contract, which increases his trade value.

The Washington Wizards were said to be interested in trading for Giricek last summer. Giricek also would be open to a buyout that would leave him free to sign with any team.

What precipitated the argument with Sloan was unclear. Giricek checked in for the final 18.1 seconds of the first quarter and stayed in to start the second. He missed a jumper and traveled before hitting a 20-footer with 8:30 left in the quarter.

MEHMET OKUR TRYING TO TRIP GORDAN GIRIČEK: Mehmet Okur was trying to trip Gordan Giricek as they were going to their locker room after beating Philadelphia on 11/28/07.

Immediately after that shot, Giricek gave up a layup to Jason Richardson at the other end. Asked if that play in particular had drawn Sloan's ire, Giricek said that wasn't the issue.

The Jazz already were down two players Wednesday in Mehmet Okur, who missed his fifth game since injuring his shoulder, and forward Matt Harpring, who is expected to play Friday after he finishes undergoing gastric testing in Utah.

One option is to recall rookie guard Morris Almond (NBDL: 37.5MIN/26.5PTS) from his assignment with the NBA Development League's Utah Flash.

Deron Williams, meanwhile, said the Jazz weren't shaken by seeing Giricek sent to the locker room or suspended. "We can't control it,'' Williams said. "We've just got to keep playing, keep trying to get wins."

JUČER U CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA..
Michael Jordan Works Out,
Talks About Bobcats

Managing Member of Basketball Operations Michael Jordan took the court with the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday for a brief workout with the team. While Jordan demonstratively laughed off the possibility of a comeback, he did take time after practice to talk with the media about a host of different things pertaining to the Bobcats. The following is a transcript of Jordan's meeting with the media:

(On his being involved in practice the last several days)
This was more or less for the morale of the players. The last couple of days it has been all about trying to get them to focus on the little things and to play as a team. They’ve been in a lot of games. The Orlando game was a great example, they came out and played great as one unit. In the second half it became a bunch of individuals, which in essence shows that when you play together as a unit you can beat some good solid teams. But as soon as you become individuals, you can’t do anything right. I also told them yesterday that on this team we have no All-Stars – none. That means everybody has to rely upon each other to be successful. Until we develop an All-Star that can take over a game, I think it’s very important for them to understand that they have to play as a unit. I think that’s the message that a lot of the guys got. As I said in the meetings yesterday and watching film, I utilized my experience on a team and in a structured situation to know that a lot of the little things, these guys are not doing.

They need to focus on utilizing everybody’s talents. It’s starts with Raymond (Felton) and it starts with Jeff (McInnis), in terms that they are the leaders on the basketball court. They are the most integral part of our team right now because everybody goes with their leadership, from their aggressive defense to them setting up plays. Most of my conversation were with them, as well as with Gerald (Wallace), (Emeka) Okafor and Jason Richardson, because they’re leaders too, when you look at it, but everything starts with them (point guards) as well as with the coaching staff and the team in terms of understanding what their responsibilities are. It was a workshop this week because I felt like they needed it. They were getting at a point, where they just could not get over the hump. A lot of that is because of their own play, partly because of the way they go out and focus on some of the little things. It was good. Today wasn’t anything, except me getting exercise, so don’t take it out of context.

(On why he initially didn’t want to practice with the team)
Initially I said no, mainly because I felt like if you’re going to compete at this level you have an inner drive to be the best athlete. You definitely don’t need anybody else to motivate you. That’s all though predicated on the way I approached the situation as opposed to how some of these kids approach it. We have to see how they respond to this, this is just practice, we still have games to play to see how this all plays out. Don’t use this as an excuse, use it as a stepping-stone to go out and play. If you go out tomorrow and do the same thing, you can care less if I come here and hang out with you. But if you take what I said and my actions of being around and put it to good use, then it’s a tool we can revisit quite often, but if there are not results, don’t use it as an excuse.

(What made him decide to come to practice)
What we really made me (decide to come to practice), was because they were missing so many little things. You can see if they play with the right focus, they can do it. The Boston game was a great game, there was just one mistake at the end of the game. The Orlando game, which I saw the other night when I was here. I was nervous about, obviously because it’s the first national television game and you didn’t know how they were going to come out. They were nervous and they came out and relied upon each other and they played extremely well and had a nine-point lead. Once they got that comfort, they reverted back to old habits. “It’s a television game, this is where I can showcase my talents.” It became more an individual game and not using all the components within the team as they did in the first half.

That’s when I made the point to say, “Let me see if I can look at the film with these guys and let them see what I see from my perspective and then relay it to them and see if they understand what I’m seeing.” Not in a derogatory way, but more or less in helpful way. I thought the game against Orlando, they could have stepped out and made a name for themselves. They did, but so quickly they reverted back to old habits in the second half. That proves to me that they have it, you just have to somehow get it out of them, so they focus on all 15 guys, as opposed to one guy here or one guy there being the focus. I think the last couple of days we had great conversations. We had a great dialogue between myself and every player on this team. I felt good about it, but now can they take it and use it tomorrow. It’s a tough opponent tomorrow. Utah’s struggling, but they are very solid in screen-and-rolls, which is one of our weaknesses. It’s going to test whether we comprehend what we were always discussing in the film session yesterday. I think they have it, but we’ll know tomorrow.

EUROLEAGUE NEWS 18-12-2007

(On if he and the coaching staff are tough on Raymond Felton)
Not tough, just demanding. Raymond’s fourth year is coming up. By now we should start to see more consistency in his play, less turnovers, more leadership so that you don’t have periods where you come down and lose the ball with no shot on three straight plays On that fourth play you have to focus. What we used to do is have a designed play where we know we can get a good shot. He still struggles with that. He still takes it upon himself to say, “I can do it myself.” It’s not what we probably expect.

There may be situations where he can do it, but you still need all 11 players. My comment, I don’t mean it as a derogatory sense, is that we don’t have any All-Stars on our team. We have a lot of guys who are on the verge, but those little things get you over the hump. Consistency gets you over the hump. It’s not what you think, but it’s what your productivity is over a consistent basis. I felt like I needed to say that so everybody understands and they can look and say, ‘You know, you’re right.’

None of these guys have been All-Stars. We have two guys who have been on winning teams D.A. (Derek Anderson) and now, Nazr (Mohammed). The rest of the guys are trying to establish themselves in terms of a winning situation. Let’s understand who we are so we can move from that and utilize each other as pieces of puzzle to paint a different picture. But if you have a different vision of the picture then we’re losing the battle already. So let’s get everybody on the same page.

(On if it’s important for the Bobcats to focus on getting the ball in the post)
Totally. We have a good post up guy in Mohammed, as you saw in the Atlanta game. He goes in and Raymond got a layup. He got everybody operating and moving without the ball. He’s able to find people. Okafor can do that but we have to get him the ball and allow him to be part of it – make him a threat. If we can’t penetrate the defense with our dribble, then penetrate with a pass. We have in certain situations been able to get good things once the ball goes in the middle. Now it’s not going to be every night, but at least you focus on it and put the pressure on the defense to react in some way and now the perimeter comes into play.

When you start individualizing the game, where everybody wants to be “the guy” then you’re going to have that lull in our success. Let’s focus on what has really been a strong point for us, which is getting the ball in the post. Granted you have Jason Richardson, who is probably shooting the best three-point shot, but we have yet to figure out how to get Matt Carroll operating. His strong play is coming off screens, extending the defense, keeping the spacing. If we have Matt Carroll out there trying to go one-on-one, we have problems.

These are the conversations I made a point to have with the guys as well as the coaching staff from my perspective. Sam (Vincent) is totally saying the same thing but coming from me is resonates a little more and a little bit fast. How I look at the value of each player, is to evaluate the components of the team. It’s not about paying a guy $15 million because he averages 30 points, but you win 15 games. That to me doesn’t benefit the team. To me it’s about building with 12-13 solid players and you go out and win ball games and everybody consistently plays their role.

(On Nazr Mohammed)
I’ve played with Nazr (Mohammed) quite a bit. I’ve seen him play. He’s a consistent guy, a great locker room guy, a great veteran and he wasn’t getting much time in Detroit. We’ve been beating the wires trying to find someone consistent, someone of value, not too extreme where it hurts us long-term as far as financial planning with the cap. Nazr’s contract didn’t hurt us. We made a commitment with it, but it didn’t hurt us. If we feel like we have the right components to make it work, let’s do it.

We feel like we’ve been doing that for the last couple of months, trying to find replacements for Sean (May) and Adam (Morrison), who are out for the whole year. We ask our young kids to do a lot. They’re learning at the same time so we can’t expect the consistency each and every game. I think Jared (Dudley) has given us a lot, a lot more than what we expected at this stage. For him to see more time, it’s only going to elevate his skills long term, but to ask to get immediate results, we had to go out and find someone.

HE WAS THE BEST KEPT SECRET OF NBDL...NOW HE IS A GO-GETTER...CHECK OUT FIRST EVER JAMARIO MOON YOUTUBE.MIX...

(On what they are going to do with the open roster spot)
Nothing right now. We don’t want to just make a deal to make a deal because we have an empty space. If there is something out there that can add to this team and it’s economically worthwhile, we would look at it. We have the flexibility to add another player. I don’t see a need right now, but our options are always open which to me is most important thing with this organization is to keep your options open.

To see and hear more from Jordan's practice with the Bobcats tune into News 14 Carolina on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as the Bobcats take on the Utah Jazz.

That’s why we love Ricky Rubio

Did we need a bounce pass between the legs to start talking about the Spanish prodigy again?

Since his team - Joventut Badalona - does not play the Euroleague this season, Ricky Rubio has gone a little off the radar those last few months. Well for anyone outside of Spain because on the national scene, he’s been unbelievable. Leading the ACB in steals and bringing wins after wins to his Badalona team.

The scary thing with Rubio is he’s still unable to rent a porn in a video store. He’s still 17 and if I’m the head coach of the Spanish National Team, I already feel like having an aspirine if I have to choose between Calderon, Cabezas, Raul Lopez, Sergio Rodriguez, Sergio Llull and Ricky.

Ricky has developped a good stroke from the outside and generally speaking has established himself as a true offensive threat (14 ppg in 23 minutes in the Spanish League), without taking it easy in any way on the defensive end. Word is he has become a better distributor and has cut down on his turnovers. You’d think he takes fewer risks with the ball in his hands? Have a look at above video clip (fast forward to 1257) and I’m sure you couldn’t tell…

PREDVODNIK NEW LOOK T-BLAZERSA - SG BRANDON ROY

KOŠARKA JE IGRA NIZOVA:
Trail Blazers Look To Make It 8 In A Row

Seven wins and counting. At least the Trail Blazers hope to continue the count Monday when they play the New Orleans Hornets for the 3rd time this season.

The Trail Blazers seem to be unstoppable right now. They are the hottest team in the Western Conference, only the Celtics are currently on a larger winning streak. Portland picked up their 7th continuous victory on Sunday against the Nuggets, the same team who snapped the Blazers second largest streak this season, when they grabbed 4 wins in a row at home. This time the Hornets are hoping to be the spoiler, but with the way Portland has been performing, combined with their home wins record this season (9/3), it won’t be easy.

That’s not to say maintaining their hot streak is going to be simple for Portland. The Hornets, 15-9, are having an incredibly strong season of their own. The young Hornets team is hot off a victory in Phoenix, and if they can take out the number 2 team in the western conference, then Portland is faced with a serious challenge. Both teams picked up a victory off the other this season, and this 3rd match-up will be the tie- breaker. So fans can expect a high energy-and high scoring- affair. Last game Portland had a new season high with 61 points at the half, and with Aldridge returning to the line-up, they might surpass that.

The Portland team has been playing incredible in the absence of Aldridge who has been out with an injury the past 4 games. This is due mostly to the stand out performances of the bench. Channing Frye has filled Aldridge’s shoes successfully, especially on Sunday when he scored 14 points in the first quarter alone. The team must continue to play in this fashion even with Aldridge’s return - as the combination will be unstoppable.

Brandon Roy will be matched up with Chris Paul, the Hornets’ leading scorer- averaging 21.5 points this season. Roy has led Portland in scoring, averaging 18 points. Roy can expect to be double teamed excessively, so he’ll have to concentrate on delivering assists as much as gathering his own baskets.

Joel Pryzbilla has been a standout player for Portland this season, and he will be a key factor when it comes to blocks and rebounding, two big factors in their last victory. He will have to battle Tyson Chandler for those R’s, which will be a tough match as the New Orleans’ center has averaged 11 a game this season.

This will be LaMarcus Aldridge’s first game back, and immediately upon returning he is faced with the great task of taking on power forward David West. West played phenomenally in their last game against Portland, scoring 34 points in that match-up. So defending West will be crucial, they need to try to hold him to single digits to take the victory.

BULLS vs SPURS 1995/96 – MJ23 38pts, 9 rebounds, 4 steals: This is the 10th game of the Bulls' historic 1995-96 season, where they end the regular season with a record of 72-10. This win was their 4th straight, improving their record to 9-1. Jordan was his usual self, coolly dropping an efficient 38 points. His impeccable mid-range game was on display here as he sank his smooth fade-aways all night long.

The Trail Blazer team never likes to disappoint the home crowd, and the confidence they’ve gained over this winning streak can certainly carry them to that 8th straight victory, making this the game to see.

The game airs locally at 7 pm on Comcast Sports Network.

Keeping it real isn't always the best motto

In the wake of someone allegedly shooting at Jamaal Tinsley Sunday in Indiana and Sean Taylor’s recent murder – as well as this summer’s home invasions of Antoine Walker and Eddy Curry – it’s understandable to wonder about the danger of being a professional athlete.

Athletes are often criticized for carrying guns, but are these examples why they feel the need to carry?

Could athletes eliminate much of the threat by better picking the company they keep and choosing where (or where not to) go at night? Is it even fair to ask athletes to stay away from clubs?

Is it fair to ask them to leave their friends behind? The same people who cared and believed in them before they became successful?

Unfortunately, yes. Anyone who is successful will tell you firsthand that with success, change has to occur. In my estimation that is why most people aren’t successful. They are afraid of change.

In religion they call it blocking your blessings. In sports, it’s called knowing your personnel.

Some people are actually afraid of success because success sometimes requires you to remove yourself from familiar surroundings. Who doesn’t want to be in a place that everybody knows your name?

It’s the same reason why an abusive couple stays together. They’re afraid not of the consequences of their current problems, but what will happen if they do change.

In today’s society, having a gun in the house is acceptable, in my opinion. But if you’re going out and risking your multimillion-dollar livelihood in the less-controlled environment of the streets, you might want to consider hiring a bodyguard.

I totally understand that random stuff happens and that most players and other successful people are targets. But we increase our chances of becoming a target based on whom we hang with and where we go.

Are you more prone to run into trouble if you’re a regular attendee of strip clubs and night clubs, and you have a crew of friends that can’t adapt to your success? Yes! That’s where the madness happens.

I’m not saying that you have to stay home and be a hermit, but you do need to be selective. And even then you can still have problems. The key is bringing along friends who can adjust to your success.

Everyone in rap music screams, “Keep it real!” But do you honestly think Jay-Z has every member of the Marcy Projects still hanging with him? Do you really think that all of Michael Jordan’s crew from Wilmington, N.C., was sitting in Chapel Hill when he went to college? Or, for that matter, now sitting in one of his mansions?

With success comes change, and that change sometimes involves selecting better company. There’s an endless list of superstars, including Mike Tyson, Pacman Jones and Michael Vick, who haven’t been able to make wise decisions. That’s because they’re too concerned with trying to “keep it real.”

I have a new philosophy: Keep it right. It’s one thing to become successful. It’s another thing to maintain that success.

FIBA PR N°58
Meeting of the FIBA Central Board in Chicago

The FIBA Central Board met yesterday, Saturday 8th December, and today, Sunday 9th December, for its 3rd Session of the 2006-2010 Term of Office in Chicago, USA.

The meeting of the Central Board was organized in cooperation with USA Basketball, with the assistance of the United States Olympic Committee and World Sport Chicago, and featured the presence of the leaders from the NBA, the NCAA and of the host national federation, USA Basketball.

NBA Commissioner David J. Stern, NCAA President Myles Brand and USA Basketball President and FIBA Central Board member Val Ackerman all participated in phases of the meeting, accompanied by their respective top executive officers. Mr. Stern, Mr. Brand and Ms. Ackerman provided presentations on their organizations and participated in very productive debates with the FIBA Central Board members.

The working sessions with the NBA and the NCAA have been regarded by the FIBA Central Board as another very positive step in a long and fruitful collaboration with these two prestigious basketball organisations operating in the USA. Indeed, the presence of the NBA and the NCAA at the FIBA Central Board meeting is unmistakable proof of the continuous willingness of all parties involved to work together on many future initiatives and projects for the growth of basketball.

Below are some of the issues discussed and some of the decisions taken by the FIBA Central Board, which concluded its meeting on Sunday evening.

2. FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament to take place in Greece

The Central Board decided that the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men will take place, from 14th to 20th July 2008, in Athens, Greece, in the 18.000-seat OAKA Sports Arena located in Maroussi.

The remaining three men's berths for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be decided in this 12-team FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament that will feature the following participants: Brazil, Cape Verde, Canada, Cameroon, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Slovenia.

TOP 10 PLAYS 11-12-2007

The following nine teams have already booked their tickets for the Olympic Basketball Tournament for Men that will take place in Beijing, China, from 10th to 24th August 2008: Angola, Argentina, Australia, China, Iran, Lithuania, Russia, Spain and USA.

The draw that will determine the composition of the four groups of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men will take place on 31st January 2008 in Athens, Greece.

For further information on the system of competition of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men, please refer to Press Release # 53 or to the following link.

10. Opening of the bidding process for the FIBA 2014 World Championship

The FIBA Central Board decided to open the bidding process for the 2014 World Championship for Men. All National Federations interested in hosting FIBA's premier championship in 2014 will be required to send their letters of interest to FIBA by 30th April 2008. The complete bidding process will end when the Central Board decides the host during its meeting of April 2009.

One kid I am excited to see play is Aleksandar Ugrinoski from Croatia. This kid can ball! He was our third pick in the draft. He joined camp late because of VISA problems from Croatia but he is fun to watch. He is quick-lacks experience but is lightning fast. He is 19 and has never declared for the draft so can not be called up by an NBA team this year. He is unique in that way. So basically, he is here to prepare for the draft. Could he be a first round pick in 2008? Stay tuned. - Brandt Andersen, owner, Utah Flash

Dragi Joke,

SIMPTOMI:

- OBRANA1: inferiornost u skoku, posebice obrambenom
- OBRANA2: no help-defence (nema pomaganja suigračima)
- NAPAD1: beskonačno «carinjenje» lopte od strane playeva
- NAPAD2: napadačka neprotočnost lopte, posebno u obliku nastavaka JEDINE AKCIJE

DIJAGNOZA:

- OBRANA: prima se previše laganih koševa
- NAPAD: ofenzivne akcije «pročitane»

LIJEKOVI:

- promijeniti akciju ili uigrati potencijalne nastavke postojeće akcije
- dati Andriću/Kaštropilu/Žoriću više minuta u rotaciji s Hoskinom
- dati Roziću/Krasiću više minuta na niskom krilu
- razmisliti o eventualnom pomicanju Larrya Ayusa na jedinicu

TERAPIJA:

- REANIMACIJA MINUTAMA ANDRIĆA & ROZIĆA, LOPTAMA AYUSA...
- TEŽIŠTE IGRE U NAPADU PRIBLIŽITI KOŠU, IGRATI S VIŠIM PETORKAMA

Naravno, vrijedi spomenuti i BITNE PRETPOSTAVKE gore navednog plana:

IVERSON'S 51-POINT NIGHT (NUGGETS LOSS TO THE LAKERS)

Two group leads spoken for after Wednesday results

Week 7 got underway on Wednesday with seven games that already left a clear picture of how the group leadership situation shapes up at the halfway mark of the regular season.

For the second week in a row, CSKA Moscow overcame injuries to keep hold of first place in Group A. Even without starters Matjaz Smodis and Alexey Savrasenko, not to mention Euroleague MVP Theodoros Papaloukas, CSKA cruised past visiting VidiVici Bolonga 79-53 as six players scored between 10 and 16 points.

CSKA is now followed in second place by Montepaschi Siena, which rallied to defeat visiting Olympiacos 86-84 on Terrell McIntyre's last-minute heroics.

In Group B, Lietuvos Rytas shook off a two-game losing streak and returned to first place by dominating Cibona for a blowout 93-59 home win in Vilnius, Lithuania. Martynas Petravicius led the way with 17 points for L. Rytas, whose 5-2 record ties it with Unicaja after its 91-75 road loss a the hands of Efes Pilsen.

TOP 10 PLAYS 06-12-2007

Drew Nicholas and Ermal Kuqo formed an outside-inside tag team, scoring 16 and 13 points, respectively, as Efes was in complete control for the last three quarters. L. Rytas and Unicaja will share their first-place tie with either Maccabi or Aris after those teams play Thursday, while Efes will be even with the loser of that game, a victory behind the tri-leaders.

In Group C, two teams stayed tied for third place, at least, while waiting for Thursday's showdown between undefeated Panathinaikos and second-place Real Madrid to make things clearer.

Despite missing league-leading rebounder Mirsad Turkcan, Fenerbahce Ulker rose up for a 72-76 road win at Partrizan Igokea as Will Solomon played hurt and scored 21 points.

Fenerbahce remains tied with AXA F.C. Barcelona, a big 80-58 winner over visiting Brose Baskets Bamberg as Mario Kasun put down 14 points for the winners.

Last but not least, the Euroleague's newest team, Chorale Roanne, broke its five-game losing streak in style by thrashing Lottomatica Roma 104-85 as Marc Salyers, Brion Rush, Adam Hess and Pape Badiane combined for 77 points.

PO ZORI SE DAN POZNAJE...
Garnett leading early MVP field

The NBA season is a month old and there are a few subjects I’m already tired of discussing.

First, no more Kobe Bryant trade talk. I really doubt the Los Angeles Lakers’ Mitch Kupchak wants to be remembered as the GM who traded Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe.

Second, can we put a hold on the New York Knicks’ soap opera. There’s always drama on a last-place team, but do we need to talk about it this much.. I doubt it.

Lastly, the Big Three is for real in Boston. Stop waiting for their demise.

So this week I’m focusing on the top individuals in the early going who have separated themselves from the pack as MVP candidates. And, yes, they are listed in order of preference.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1. Kevin Garnett: He, along with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, have transformed the Celtics into America’s team. But, more than any other player, Garnett has given the Celtics his identity.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

2. Dwight Howard: He has put the Orlando Magic on his young shoulders. The league’s best center once again resides in south Florida.

3b. Deron Williams: Surprise. Some people think his teammate, Carlos Boozer, leads the way for Utah. Williams, however, is the engine that makes the team go. He’s the reincarnation of Jason Kidd, only with a jump shot.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

5. Steve Nash: As each year goes by, he seems to only be getting better.

NBA.BLOG.HR - KRATKI KOMENTAR:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

6. Tim Duncan: His stats might not scream “MVP” but the San Antonio Spurs’ record does. Any person who watches the Spurs realizes Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker live off the Big Fundamental.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

7. Tony Parker: Just because you’re living off someone doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t also pay your own rent. Parker is making his own money. After winning the NBA Finals MVP award, he’s having his best individual season.

NO ANSWER, NO KING: 76ers fire GM Billy King, ex-Nets GM Stefanski takes over...

FORWARD WITH FUTURE MIX by PATRYS15: Sean Williams, New Jersey Nets...

ON THE FIRE BRIGADE...
Early Season Studs

These players have impressed early on, performing much better than their average draft positions. If you own several of them, then your team is probably at or near the top of your league's standings. Hopefully you checked out my Rankings Comparison before the season started, because I suggested that Jefferson, Terry, Kirilenko, and Ginobili were all being underrated.

#1. Richard Jefferson
38.3 min, 26.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.1 steals, .5 blocks, .9 threes, 47.4% FG, 93.7% FT

R-Jeff is back! After a disappointing '06-07 season that was hampered by injuries to both his ankles, Jefferson is healthy and dominating early on. His +12.3 Roland Rating is tops on the Nets. He's been very aggressive on offense, getting to the line 10 times per game and shooting a remarkable 97.1%. However, considering his career mark is just 77.7% FT, that number will surely fall. His 26.9 points and 1.29 steals per game are also well above his career-highs. Those numbers may slide a little, but R-Jeff has room to improve both his rebounds (5.6) and assists (2.4). In '05-06 he averaged 6.8 boards and 3.8 dimes per game, a good sign that he'll improve on his current numbers. The recent injury to Vince Carter will only help his cause. Jefferson is looking like he'll be a top 20 fantasy player all season long.

#2. Ronnie Brewer
29.7 min, 14.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.8 steals, .2 blocks, .4 threes, 54.0% FG, 85.0% FT

Brewer has been phenomenal in his 2nd NBA season. On offense, he's scoring 14.7 points per game on 54% FG shooting and 85% FT shooting. With Deron and Boozer commanding most of the attention, Brewer gets a lot of quality shots, so he should be able to keep his FG% above 50%. Of course, most of his fantasy value comes from his defense. He's currently 4th in the league with 2.78 steals per game. This is not a fluke, as he averaged 2.59 thefts per game in college. Even if he starts to struggle with his shot, Brewer will continue to get the majority of minutes at shooting guard because his defense is vastly superior to Giricek's. If he can average 14 ppg on 52% FG shooting and 80% FT shooting to go along with 2.5+ steals, he'll continue to be a top 50 fantasy player.

#3. Rudy Gay
32.9 min, 20.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, .7 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.1 blocks, 1.6 threes, 51.4% FG, 78.1% FT

Rudy Gay has also emerged in his sophomore season. His points (20.6) and threes (1.57) are about double what he averaged last season, and his shooting %'s are way up. After shooting just 42.2% from the field and 72.7% from the line last year, he's shooting 51.9% and 78.1% respectively early on. Gay's length and athleticism allow him to get a steal and a block per game no problem. Even if his shooting starts to decline, Gay can sustain his current fantasy value by improving his boards (3.7) and assists (.7). He averaged 4.5 boards and 1.3 dimes as a rookie, so his current numbers will surely improve. Gay's ceiling is very high, and if he continues to improve he'll be a 3rd round pick next year.

#4. Hedo Turkoglu
34.7 min, 18.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.2 steals, .2 blocks, 2.0 threes, 43.8% FG, 70.0% FT

What a resurgence for Hedo: he's currently averaging career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and threes per game! He has really benefited from the departure of Grant Hill and the loss of Tony Battie to injury (which forced Lewis to play more PF). Oh yeah, I'm sure playing with the Man-Beast helps a little bit as well. Can Hedo continue putting up these stellar stats? Well, judging by his current shooting %'s (43.8% FG, 70% FT), I'd say the answer is yes. In '05-06 he shot 45.4% from the field and 86.1% from the line, well above his current numbers. I understand if you want to sell high on Hedo, but he's going to be putting up solid fantasy lines all season long.

TOP 10 PLAYS 04-12-2007

#5. Jamal Crawford
40.3 min, 18.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, .6 blocks, 1.4 threes, 41.7% FG, 86.1% FT

Crawford is off to a sweet start this season, averaging career-highs in points, assists, steals, blocks, and FT%. There's a good chance his steals and blocks will decline, but Crawford can easily maintain his other numbers. In fact, his 1.4 threes per game are nothing compared to the 2.2 per game he averaged after the All-Star break last season. Considering that Isiah is having issues (to say the least) with Marbury but is giving Crawford all the minutes he can handle, Jamal should continue to put up big numbers.

#6. Kevin Martin
40.0 min, 26.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals, .3 blocks, 2.0 threes, 44.7% FG, 85.6% FT

Kev-Mart has been a top 20 fantasy player early on. He's currently 4th in scoring (behind Kobe, LeBron, and T-Mac) and is getting to the line more than ANYONE else in the league (11.3 FTA/ game). Martin has had to shoulder the scoring load with Artest and Bibby out, but don't expect his points to decline that much. The dude can flat out score. I think the return of Artest is actually going to help out Martin's FG% (which was a solid 47.3% last year). And while his steals are sure to fall, his boards should go up a little bit. Kev-Mart is one of the best young scorers in the game, and he'll keep that title all season long.

#7. Al Harrington
32.8 min, 20.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals, .2 blocks, 2.5 threes, 53.4% FG, 64.7% FT

Harrington has been a stud for the Warriors thus far. He's averaging 20 ppg thanks to a stellar 53.4% FG. Rebounding has been a weakness for Harrington in the past, but he's focused on improving that and is pulling down a career-high 7.2 boards per game. The 2.5 threes per game that he's making as a center-eligible player is what makes Al so special. Harrington is deadly from 3-point range and he's expanded his offensive repertoire by adding super quick spin moves in the paint. His FT% is currently an ugly 64.7%, so there is definitely room for improvement there. The points, threes, and FG% may slide a bit, but Al is clearly an improved player this season.

#8. Jason Terry
32.7 min, 22.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.0 steals, .6 blocks, 2.6 threes, 54.9% FG, 89.7% FT

After starting for most of his 8 year career, fantasy owners wondered how Terry would respond coming off the bench this season. Well, it clearly hasn't bothered him, as he's averaging career-highs in points, blocks, threes, FG%, and FT%. The blocks are an anomaly, but his stellar shooting %'s are not. Since arriving in Dallas 3 years ago, Terry has shot 47% or better from the field, 40% or better from 3-point land, and 80% or better from the line every single season. So his current shooting numbers may slide a bit, but they're not going to fall far. The Jet is one of the most underrated fantasy guards in the league.

(04.12.2007. 21:44)

#9. Andrei Kirilenko
35.3 min, 11.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.8 steals, 2.3 blocks, .1 threes, 45.3% FG, 76.9% FT

AK Freakin' 47! One of last year's biggest busts has turned it around big time. He still doesn't score a lot of points or make many threes, but it doesn't matter when he's doing everything else. Over his last 4 games, he's averaged 9.8 assists, 9.3 boards, 3.3 steals, and 2.5 blocks per game, which tells you everything you need to know. The hustle stats (boards, steals, and blocks) are no surprise, but his 7.1 dimes are well above his career-high of 4.3 per game. As an AK owner, if he finishes the season with 75 games played and 5 assists per game I'll be stoked. He remains an injury risk, but there's a decent chance of that happening.

#10. Marvin Williams
35.3 min, 17.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, .4 steals, .4 blocks, .1 threes, 56.6% FG, 78.4% FT

The former UNC star has really blossomed in his 3rd year. His +15.2 Roland Rating is far and away the best figure on the Hawks (J-Smoov is 2nd at +4.1). His FG% has jumped from 43.3% in '06-07 to a stellar 56.6% this season, resulting in a nice ppg jump as well. His boards and assists are also up, which is nice to see. Williams won't be able to shoot over 55% from the field all season long, but he'll make up for it with more steals and blocks. Last year he averaged .81 steals and .47 blocks per game, so averages of .9 and .6 aren't out of question.

On 21 January 1989, MJ treated us all to an amazing performance, hitting his first 9 shots on his way to scoring 53 Points in the Chicago Stadium against a tough Phoenix Suns team.

Jordan shot 20-28 from the field (71.4%) and 13-15 from the line (86.7%) along with 16 Rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Impossible right? Well not for Jordan -- he did that all season.

In perhaps his best all-round season, and maybe the best all-round season of all time, MJ averaged 32.5 points at 53.8% from the field and 85% from the line, along with 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 2.8 steals and 0.8 blocks per game over 81 games.

STARTING UNITS

CHICAGO BULLS - as usuall...but this was 2 years before first Championship ring...

PG John Paxon
SG Michael Jordan - 5th year pro, @ age 26
SF Scootie Pippen - 2nd year pro
PF Horace Grant - 2nd year pro
C Bill Cartwright - 2nd year in Windy city

PHOENIX SUNS - Cotton Fitzimons team in transition from good to very good, starting 2 rookies on this occasion..

PG Kevin Johnson - 2nd season in 'Zona
SG Jeff Hornacek - guarding MJ
SF Tim Perry - rookie guarding Cartwright??
PF Armon Gilliam - rookie 2nd team selection 88/89
C Tom Chambers - signed as FA

He also led a young Bulls team to the Eastern Conference Finals against the eventual champion Pistons. Amazingly he didn't even win the league MVP that year because Magic led the Lakers to more wins. It shows how great and competitive the league was back then.

My favourite move is at 4:44 when he explodes baseline for a slam. The quickness of his first step along the baseline is amazing and he throws the ball into the basket so hard and fast and so high, it's unbelievable.

Enjoy...

Brad Miller calls Beno Udrih a ‘metrosexual’

What Beno calls style, Brad calls something else. Kings center Brad Miller has been giving Udrih a hard time about his fashion, and his ridiculing became public on Sunday.

“He’s a typical, goofy European with tight pants, tight clothes - pretty standard,”
Miller said with a laugh.

A metrosexual, one might say?

“Definitely a metrosexual,” Miller said. “He has the nice accent. He’s telling us, ‘This team was loaded with lots of Europeans before (in the days of Peja Stojakovic, Hedo Turkoglu etc.), so everybody knows what’s going on.”
