MMA update:
Zelg against Curtis Stout, Destination Japan: Cro Cop to face Yoshida, Mirenić to sign with Pride FC...
Mirko Cro Cop Filipović has left for Japan, to challenge Hidehiko Yoshida in the 2nd round of Pride FC Open Weight Grand Prix this Saturday 1st of July.
Is this gonna be a real critical countdown for Mirko or just another step to GP belt, on his arrival to Japan, Mirko said:
- "Yoshida is the most popular japanese fighter, and the most expirienced. I'm aware of his judo skills, but I'm ready to win this fight, of course I prefere stand-up fighting, but I will fight on the ground too, if situation puts Yoshida down on the ground I won't give him chance to stand up, cause I'm gonna attack him on the ground."
Mirko apparently is in excellent shape, and his injured leg is doing much better now, and Mirko is feeling fine and he's determined to win this fight.
Critical Countdown fight card
Under Mirko's skirts another croatian fighter will try to find his way to Japan – Damir Mirenić is invited by Pride FC officials to be a guest on the Pride FC OWGP 2nd round, where he will be negotiating his possible deal with Pride FC. Some sources already are speculating that Mirenić will participate on Pride Bushido Tournament in late August. Also some promotors from Russia and Brazil have spotted Mirenić and would like him to participate on their tournaments.
Zelg Galešić will face the biggest challenge so far in his MMA career, on the Cage Rage 17, this Saturday in Wembley Arena, (London/UK) he's gonna fight Curtis Stout of USA.
Comments and analisys are giving Stout better chance for winning cause he's more expirinced and more versatile than Galešić and also much stronger. On the other hand Zelg's good sides are his natural quickness and his pretty decent arsenal of kicks and punches. And like Andrew Garvey of kakutougi.info wrote: "Win or lose, a good performance will boost the Croatian’s career as well as providing the audience with a fight to remember."
It's interesting how Zelg is looking at this fight: - "Stout is a dangerous opponent with a lot of expirience. And well known after his brutal KOs against Gilber and Weir, he's considered as one of the best stand-up fighters in CR. It's gonna be a hard fight for me, but I'm gonna enjoy in every second of it, no matter how this fight will end."

Oh, I'm really late in posting this:
Fuji TV splits with Pride FC
taken from www.fightoption.com
Mainichi Shimbun in Japan reports that Fuji TV has cancelled PRIDE from their network. The contract is immediately cancelled. Fuji TV’s PR department in the article is quoted as saying that PRIDE breached the contract with Fuji TV (the yakuza scandal would be the likely guess — as Shukan Gendai noted last week), but they cannot say directly what it is. (For a refresher course on the yakuza scandal, use this link).
This Yomiuri Hochi report states that Fuji TV’s PR department claimed that PRIDE committed an “improper event” and that after consulting with their lawyers, they annuled the contract with DSE. Both the Nikkei & Kyodo news wires have articles on the story as well. The Yomiuri article mentions the past arrests of three yakuza men related to Seiya Kawamata, and the Nikkei article mentions in passing that “a weekly magazine” (Shukan Gendai) had an article series about the alleged yakuza influence in PRIDE.
...
In addition to Fuji TV canceling their contract with PRIDE, Yomiuri Hochi (via Yahoo Japan) reports that the network has also issued an order stating that any PRIDE fighters or people associated with PRIDE cannot appear on any Fuji TV shows. This includes variety shows, sports shows, and other programming.
...
At the following press conference, DSE President Nobuyuki Sakakibara vociferously defended his company and denied all allegations of ties to the yakuza.
...
hmmm...
It's clearly that Pride FC/DSE are in big troubles considering that there aren't so many TV-stations in Japan capable of broadcasting their shows on PPV, both - in Japan and abroad, specially in such a short notice - cause the 2nd round of the OWGP will happen in less than a month period.
Btw. PPVs are probably the most important financial source of Pride FC wealth and greatness.
And this cancellation, if you read it carefully, means that Mirko Cro Cop Filipović (like any other rRide FC fighter) is also banned from Fuji TV.

KICKBOXING - MUAY THAI
11th Best Fighter WAKO World cup
in Salsomaggiore Terme, near Piacenza (Italy)
from 2nd to 4th of June 2006.

Croatian Kickboxing Federation are well prepared and organized for this tournament, which resulted in sending there 65 athletes from 14 different clubs, and they'll collect all-in-all in 86 appearances (cause it's allowed for fighters to participate in more than one kickboxing form.
KARATE
1 silver medal and 1 bronze
on Croatia Cup in Karate (Zagreb 27/28.05.2006)
As expected the world champion Aleksander Gerundov (Russia) won his 3rd Super Cup in a row and get 5.000 euros of prize money, but Mario Vučić put up a nice performance on the Cup and reached the finals, where he lost to Gerundov. Neven Martić also participated well and won the bronze medal.

one little correction:
(thanks to Mr. Harry Gorian)
That Paris tournament which ended with Igor Jurković's victory apparently had nothing to do with K-1 Organization and it wasn't under K-1 rules or thai-kickboxing rules. The Tournament was organized under Samy Kebchi and it's name is GRAND TOURNOI and it's under kick rules (5x2min rounds, no knees, no shoes) and it was held under French Kickboxing Federation supervision.

Branko Cikatić said: - "This is gonna be a very strong tournament, with the best fighters from Japan, Thailand and Korea... Unfortunatelly - due the financial problems we couldn't afford to participate with more fighters in this World Championships."
