This is such a powerful laptop! It just runs extremely fast and the feel of the keyboard is lovely. The sound from the laptop speakers are super loud and retains some of the bass sounds too. I'm also a gamer. This runs amazing with games. I have games that use up a lot of gb's and it runs smoothly. like butter! I recommend this computer!

ASUS U46SV-DH51 14-Inch Thin and Light Laptop Reviews By Customer
Reviews Of ASUS U46SV-DH51 14-Inch Thin and Light Laptop
Not a lot to add that hasn't already been said.Great laptop. Light-weight. Horrible speakers. The boot time seems slower than usual but that might be the 5400RPM hard drive.I tried an SSD but this motherboard does not play well with the SandForce SSD controller. It booted a LOT faster but there were problems resuming from sleep or hibernate and on every 3rd or 4th boot the computer wouldn't recognize the SSD at all. This a known problem with the SandForce controller so I'm not going to blame ASUS -- just something people should be aware of before they buy. Perhaps an SSD with a different controller would be a better choice.I'm next going to try a 7200RPM hybrid drive and see how that improves the boot time. From other reviews it should bring it down under 20 seconds.Regarding the bloatware, you can pretty much remove everything with the ASUS branding other than the Wireless Console Utility and the AI Recovery. The first controls the hotkey enabling/disabling of the WiFi and the Bluetooth. Not sure about the reviewer who said this model doesn't have Bluetooth cuz it most definitely does. They also mentioned WiMax which this doesn't have so they must have been reviewing a different model. The AI Recovery creates the restore disks from the hidden restore partition so you'll definitely want to keep that until after you've made your disks. In fact, don't mess with any of the partitions until after you've made your discs. Out of the box the laptop comes set up with a C and a D drive and when I repartitioned to get rid of the D-drive and expand the C-drive I lost access to my restore partition.Getting it back was something of a pain but I did get it.After you've made your discs you can use them to reinstall everything factory fresh and at that point you will be given the option of eliminating the D-drive and having just one large C-drive.

I purchased this laptop from Amazon after looking at many laptops at Bestbuy. They had some Asus computers there and the people working at Bestbuy stated that Asus was a very high quality manufacture of laptops. They also stated that Asus makes the mother boards for many other computer manufactures. For this model, Asus gives a one year all in one warranty and if you send in your registration right away, they extend the full warranty for two years. What I mean by a full warranty, it includes repairing or replacing the laptop even if you drop it. Buying a computer from Bestbuy for the price I paid for this laptop and I wanted a similar warranty, that would be $269.99 more.I've read some comments about the speakers on this laptop. I don't understand the problem with the speakers, they are very loud and the quality seems fine to me. It's not meant to be a boom box and if you don't like the sound, you can always plug in some headphones. Compared to other laptops that I have reviewed and looked at this beats them all for price, performance, looks, warranty and usability.

Asus X44L-BBK4 14" Notebook Computer i3-2330M 4GB 500GB Windows 7 Real Reviews
Please pardon this review since it is on the Asus X44H instead of the X44L. I bought the X44H at Bestbuy on 12/18/11. It was advertised for $399 then on the 25th they marked it down to $349 which I went back today and Bestbuy, without a problem or complaint, gave me the differance back. I was very surprised and pleased. I was ready for a fight. In regards to the "R. Mahood "Luv2RV"" comment on updates. The exact thing happen to me during the updates. The wireless went away as well as the Power management system. I corrected it by doing a restore from 2 days earlier. So I decided to no longer to use the Asus Live Update for anything. They have a software update utility as well as Windows update, so their update isn't really necessary. This new computer was a replacement for my 6 year old Compac laptop that I paid $799 for. At the time $799 got you a bottom of the line computer. (It was still functioning fine but it was time to upgrade, plus I wanted a new toy). Overall, I am very pleased with the unit.

Reviews Of Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830T-6417 13.3-Inch Laptop
I bought this laptop to replace my five year old Gateway laptop that was really a monster. I had a hard time choosing between getting another laptop or buying a tablet as a replacement. I'm so glad I bought this laptop! I've had it for a few weeks now and I couldn't be happier. Pros:LightweightFastRelatively quiet (although I'm used to a beast of a fan)Doesn't get terribly hotBattery life is amazing! I get at least 8 hours.Thin, good sizeHDMI out so I can hook it up to my TVIt's blue!Cons:Had to buy an external CD drive to install Office (almost negligible, I could have returned it if I wanted the money back enough)The case absorbs oil from my hands, so there are always marks on the top that I have to wipe off. Annoying, but not damning.Keyboard is oddly shaped, takes some getting used to.Overall, a good buy for someone who doesn't need too much from their computer. I mainly use it for word processing and accessing the internet and it serves me well. Would definitely recommend it to a friend!

For me ideal size laptop with a 13.3 screen weighing in at 4 lbs.Best battery life of any notebook I have owned. I have purchased two of these. The first one had a Synaptics touchpad which is excellent. I ordered the second one 2 months later and it has an Elan touchpad and initially it was notchy and problematic. The fix is to lower the palm check setting and the improvement was significant. Would still prefer the Synaptics but now they are almost the same .The display on the Acer is excellent. Keyboard and sound are also excellent. The unit has a sturdy solid feel considering the weight. I would recommend the 3830T-6417 over the 3830T-6870 because it runs cooler. The 6417 never really gets warm with little sacrifice in speed. The cooling fan is quiet but not silent. It ramps up a little from time to time for no apparent reason. I replaced the original hard drive with an SSD drive which makes a huge difference in a laptop. Notebook hard drives are quite slow in comparison to desktop hard drives.

Dell Latitude D600 14.1-Inch Laptop - 512MB RAM, 30GB Hard Drive Customer Reviews
I took this laptop to my PC tech and it was horrible! PC tech input: After taking a look at this Dell Latitude D600 I was already concerned about the price she had paid of $150.00 for a machine that is hardly worth that even in mint condition.Upon inspection of this unit I had discovered all 3 of the batteries the seller had given her were bad. One of them even had the word BAD written in permanent marker. She even complained about the faulty battery and they sent her another faulty battery to remedy the problem. After further inspection of the machine the internal hardware wan not as stated, product description states a 30gb HDD is included. 30gb isn't alot to begin with but is ample amount of storage for documents and a decent amount of photos and music. This unit was equipped with a measly 20gb HDD.Furthermore the overall cosmetic condition is Par at best, they have been so kind to include some sticky pleather material on the LCD lid to cover up the huge gash and any other cosmetic blemishes you might not like.I peronally have refurbished well over 50 laptop machines in the past year and know that from a recycling facility these guys couldnt have paid more than 25-30 bucks for this unit, bought a square of pleather from JoAnnes for a dollar, jacked up the price $120 and called it a day. He is probubly some loser who lives in his moms basement for free and needed some more beer money. Trust me he is a winner. (SARCASM)

Lenovo Thinkpad T420 4178-6VU 14" Notebook Client Reviews
Lenovo Thinkpad T420 4178-6VU 14" Notebook Genuine Reviews Genuine Individuals
This Laptop was delivered on January 7, 2012. Here are my first impressions. Configuration is average for the most of modern laptops but with some advantages: -Latest processor Sandy Bridge Core i5 2520M dual core 2.5 Ghz; -4Gb RAM (used only one slot, I'm going to install additional memory which shall provide me with max of 8 Gb of total memory 2x4Gb). -500 Gb/7200 rpm hard drive is fast enough and equipped with anti-shock feature. -This machine has 14" matte HD screen with resolution of 1600x900 which does not give any reflections at all! It tilts 180 degrees which is very handy. -It has Intel HD Graphics 3000 and nVidia Quadro NVS 4200M with 1 Gb dedicated memory, which is not the fastest but is still sufficient for day-to-day activity: work with MS Office applications, Web surfing, watching video and playing not too demanding games. -Three USB-2 drives + one e-SATA/USB are an advantage, more than enough, but it would be better to have USB-3 and HDMI port which in this case replaced with Display port which is not so widely used yet. -Spill proof keyboard is a beauty of this machine! I used to have laptops of different brands: Toshiba, Dell, Asus, Sony, the last one is Samsung (I still have it) but this one is the best in terms of the keyboard! Typing this keyboard is nothing but the pleasure. The only thing which requires to be got used to is the location of certain keys such as DELETE, two keys right above the arrow keys, which I found unnecessary - they switch pages when surfing the internet current to previous and vice versa. I'd prefer to have HOME/END keys instead of them. Also FN and CTRL keys: ctrl key should be at the lowest left and fn key is between ctrl and windows keys, but you can swap them in BIOS. -Interesting feature is the track point - did not have chance to use much but with a little practice I'm sure it can be more convenient than touchpad. Touch pad is normal, nothing to say bad or good. It is smaller than the same in Samsung QX 411 but you do not touch it accidentally when typing which was a pain with Samsung. -Another cute thing is a little flash light on top of the camera, which allows for typing in complete darkness. You can turn it on by pressing "function + page up" keys simultaneously; it justifies the strange placement of these keys, because it's extremely easy to find them in the dark. -Sound quality - alright. Not best but not too bad. I found a bit inconvenient combined headphone/mic jack, had to buy special headphones with combined phones/mic connector. -Built in web camera is crisp and works flawlessly in fast networks. -Laptop has a fingerprint reader which switches on the machine. Nice feature. -I've bought configuration with 9 cell battery 55++. Had a chance to test it with everything on: Wi-Fi, connected wireless mouse, Bluetooth, LAN cable, in other words normal operating mode (no gaming, no films): Web browser running with at least four tabs open with running flash, MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, Windows live mail + 15 minutes of YouTube video. And it lasted 7.5 hours, without watching video it would last the whole 8 hours! I think it is an excellent result. As for the weight it's about 2 kg just a 100 gr heavier than Samsung QX 411 which has same 14" display and 6 cell battery with 3-4 hours life. As for the build quality - A+ a very solid reliable laptop the best I've used. Design: Very practical yet beautiful, I like it's rugged style, it has everything I need but "no frills", no glossy finish, display hinges made of metal the lid does not shake. No gaps, no squeaks. I'd say that it's as good as mac book pro with one exception MBPs for show-offs and Thinkpads for pros. Generally speaking I absolutely satisfied with my Lenovo ThinkPad T420.

ASUS G74SX-XA1 Republic of Gamers 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop - Black Customer Reviews
I actually purchased this machine as a development box, not as a gaming box, mainly because I wanted a SILENT and powerful machine. The machine is a bit heavy, but for people my size, (6'3", 230lbs), 9lbs more or less does not really matter. The machine has met all my expectations, delivering a fast machine, lots of RAM, great screen, and it is S I L E N T (for a PC Laptop), and the keyboard and palm rest makes it very comfortable when one is coding for 12 hours straigh.HOWEVER, I cannot belive the utter piece of garbage touchpad they included in this. I am not sure what the manufacturer of this touchpad has to black mail ASUS upper management with, but it has to be something juicy. The touchpad starts off ok, but after a few hours, it goes "wonky", i.e. the pointer studders, it moves in random directiosn when just pulling your finger in a straigh line. I tried updating both BIOS and touchpad drivers to the latest avaialble on ASUS's website, to no avail. When it goes wonky, the only way to fix it, is to do a complete shutdown. The only solution to making this semi usable, is to DISABLE the driver software, and just have Windows see it as a PS/2 compatible mouse. Its still annoyingly over sensitive, but at least it is working. If it was not for the piece of garbage touchpad I would have given this a 5 star rating.

I immediatelly added another 4GB stick of ram (16 total) and use it for hosting a Windows/Linux test Virtual Network with 8 running VMs. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the touch-pad software and the size of the screen bezel.

After looking over the previous reviews, I waited until about 2 weeks of continued use before leaving this review. Overall, the computer performance is superb. I played all my games: SC2, Borderlands, Black Ops on all max settings and gameplay was very smooth. What seems to bother most people is the responsiveness of the keyboard. I have to say that it's impossible to type anything when the touchpad is on. Not a big deal, because I never use the touchpad. When touchpad is off, the keyboard responds with no noticeable quirks. I would like to upgrade the harddrive as it is a component that noticeably lowers the performance of the computer. with a new solid state drive, this laptop will provide endless entertainment and take on any newly released game for at least 5-7 years on high settings.

See All Reviews ASUS Zenbook UX21E-DH52 11.6-Inch Thin and Light Ultrabook
Overall:A good machine with some minor flaws and one major flaw. Looking forward to an improved second generation.Wifi:This latop almost deserves 3 stars for the wifi card alone--it's that bad. Nearly returned the zenbook because of the this, but found a micro-usb wlan device to offset that dealbreaker. If engineers at Asus read this, make sure the second generation does not include a wireless card that has a maximum dbM of 16.Speakers:The best that you can have on a laptop of this size, and the best I have heard on any laptop.Battery:Lasts for about 4 hours +- 30 minutes after having the screen on the lowest possible setting and wlan powered down.Screen:Solid, decent, nothing special (see the specs).Hard drive and Processor:Unbelievably fast. At the login screen at ~12 seconds, even when performing a hard drive test on Linux during the boot process. Programs launch instantaneously, and pdf's load very quickly.Keyboard:I enjoy chiclet keyboards, so I can't give an unbiased review here. That said, I think the keys are good and I don't have many problems with depth etc, but my thumbs usually brush against the trackpad and that causes some small problems with cursor relocation. An option of powering off the trackpad with a small button would have been beneficial. The power button is the same as any other F-key on the top row, and is in the upper-right corner. It is easier to use this power button than on previous laptops.Home, End, pgup, and pgdn are function keys attached to the arrow keys, and thus are not convenient.Trackpad:It works, but Asus should have used a better brand than Sentelic. A little disappointing.OS:Using Archbang Linux on this and boots much faster than Windows 7, which itself booted in about 15-20 seconds. Be warned that the power-saving feature doesn't seem to work with Linux though (at least according to my perfunctory searching for a solution on this issue). Recommend getting the Airlink wlan here: http://www.amazon.com/AirLink101-AWLL5088-Wireless-Ultra-Adapter/dp/B003X26PMO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325476957&sr=8-1then download the drivers from Realtek's website, then turn off the internal card with a startup script.Weight and general handling:Wonderful. Two and a half pounds is light in the hand and it is very thin when stowed in its canvas envelope. Positive emotions surge through me at various times, such as when I pick this up and feel it in my hand, open it up to use it, and feel the weight of my backpack on my shoulders.Aesthetics:Beautiful, well-crafted, overall solid look to it. The most appealing machine I have seen. Looks great in the brownish case that comes with it, which is like a soft canvas envelope for the zenbook.Thermal properties:Gets a little warm, but never hot except for when I leave it running and stow it in my backpack. Fan is very quiet.

I have been using the macbook air for the longest time but asus is my favorite brand after apple, when i saw this i couldn't believe the design and hardware thats included in such a small ultrabook, well after couple days of use i love it. It is the fastest ultra book out there without a question and this comes from a guy thats a computer technician and has been using macs more than anything.I have owned all types of pc's and laptops but for a ultrabook to be as fast as any device out there is a stunning job by asus to build such a beutfifull designed ultrabook and have all the best hardware inside. This had a issue with the mouse and scrolling but guess what? Asus released a driver which already has fixed that issue. Overall this is the best piece of product your money can buy. This machine is a beast.

I have had good experience with Asus service and products in the past. This Ultra Book needs to be fixed.1) Pulling out the A/C power cable while on, will sometimes immediately shut off computer, as if it was hard shut down. I lost data twice. My 2 year old pulled the cable out one time and I lost important spreadsheet work.2) the track pad and software to modify it don't work as expected.3) Battery life is disappointing.

Apple MacBook MC240LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop Reviews
I picked up the white Macbook about 7 months ago and have been very happy with the purchase. This is my first Apple laptop and my second Mac all together. The 13 inch screen is perfect for my needs. A netbook is too small, and the bigger ones are too big to haul around (for my needs, anyway). I mainly use the machine for typical office use (OpenOffice, web surfing, etc...) and it's been great. I've also looked into a little bit of development with it, and it performed those tasks admirably (although I'd like a bigger screen if I get serious with it). The only draw back is the small hard drive. I have to keep pretty much all of my media (photos, music) on my other machine, but it doesn't really hinder me too much. Granted this laptop is more expensive than a comparatively equipped XP laptop, but I've more than made up for it in that I don't have to spend time maintaining the OS and the fact that the Mac still boots up in less than 2 minutes, while my XP laptop takes at least 5 minutes before it's usable after startup (and no, I don't have a bunch of startup items and garbage starting on boot on either machine).

A lot of this model have defective Samsung LCD panel in it.[...]I got one. And it is such a hassle to have Apple to repair or replace it for you.I already tried to repair twice, every time they return still defective. And they won't replace it for me. Horrible customer service and quality control.Horrible. Stay away. I know this is already the last generation, but still, stay as far away from this computer as possible.

ASUS Zenbook UX31E-DH52 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Ultrabook Reviews Full of Functionality
ASUS Zenbook UX31E-DH52 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Ultrabook Most Helpful Reviews
At long last, PC users finally have a strong alternative to the Macbook Air in the ultrathin, ultralight category. The ASUS UX31 meets or exceeds the technical specifications of the base model 13" Macbook Air, while starting many hundreds of dollars less expensive. Kudos to ASUS for throwing in the VGA and ethernet dongles rather than nickel-and-dime-ing you like Apple with extra charges for these standard accessories. The included sleeve will do a fine job protecting the laptop, but it seems like rather cheap synthetic materials to me- can't complain at this price, though. In particular, I was happy to see ASUS put a high-resolution 1600x900 13" display, unlike the recently announced Acer ultrabook which has a standard 1366x768 resolution. More time with Adobe Creative Suite will be needed for a final verdict, but the display seems high-quality enough for most consumers.I found the keyboard to require a bit more pressure on keys to type with than the Macbook Air, resulting in some missed keystrokes, but that will probably change over time. Also, the trackpad does not have a high-quality feel to it- the front is split into two "clickable" regions, but the touchpad layer itself feels like a brittle, thin film of plastic that FEELS like it will break after a while- only time will tell.Thank goodness for the other reviewer who mentioned downloading new drivers for the trackpad- the "Sentelic Finger Sensing Pad" has HORRIBLE response out of the box- often not recognizing taps and gestures, jumpy tracking, and choppy scrolling. I wouldn't have noticed since the Asus LiveUpdate utility did not report any new software. It turns out that the drivers on the support site are labeled as "Beta" and won't be automatically downloaded until they are considered "final". Do yourself a favor, though, and download them anyway. Still not as smooth and accurate as on the Macbook Air, but a big improvement. To answer a comment on the previous review, this laptop uses WiFi/Bluetooth hardware from Atheros, not Intel, so WiDi is not supported. I've had some flakiness with the WiFi- not sure how good the reception is, as I'm very close (i.e. at the same desk) to the base station and often not getting more than 3/5 bars in the indicator.Thankfully, the laptop comes without too much additional software. Trend Micro antivirus software is included, but I didn't activate it and simply downloaded the free Microsoft Security Essentials instead so it will be easily updated with Windows Update- oh, and be prepared for the usual many waves of Windows Updates to install, with one batch causing the laptop to freeze and hang after reboot for me, forcing a hard reset. Not a great first experience, but one I'll blame Microsoft for rather than ASUS. Finally, ASUS and Intel have a bunch of annoying gadgets installed to show you various battery and CPU status, but they seem easily uninstalled. The one thing I'm confused about is the so-called "ASUS Instant On" feature. Honestly, I don't know what turning "Instant On" ON does other than change the default Start menu button from "Shutdown" to "Sleep". Sleep mode with automatic Hibernation when the battery gets low has already been part of Windows 7, so is it really doing something different that requires me to keep yet ANOTHER utility open and running all the time? Seems like just marketing- except if so, this marketing spin adds yet another cr@plet running on the desktop...?

ASUS Zenbook UX31E-DH52 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Ultrabook
Ultrabooks are the new Intel-configured "standard" to compete with the Apple MacBook Air. I had been watching this space for a few months, anxious to replace my elderly XP Windows mini-tower. I finally bit when I saw all that Asus is offering for $1,099. I had a number of must-haves and like-to-haves.Must:Minimum of 1600x900 screen resolution. Asus is the only one I know of at this time that offers > 1366x768. And the screen is 450 nits (meaning it is very clear and easy to read).Solid state drive with at least 128GB.i5 or better processorFast wakeup from sleep. The UX31 is amazingly fast. Wakes up about as fast as my iPad! Unbelievable.> 6 hours of battery life. This will definitely vary based on what you're doing (e.g. watching a movie will drain the battery in < 4 hours). I am a professional software developer, so I do some heavy-duty processing at times and I usually get around 5.5 hours before the UX31 warns me that I've reached 10%.Bluetooth. I'd recommend a BT mouse in addition to the trackpad. The pad isn't bad, but if you're doing a lot of typing you will occasionally move the cursor unintentionally.< $1200. Intel said that Ultrabooks should be < $1000, but the only ones that are so far are poor in some quality and performance areas (I won't name names, but don't confuse Asus and Acer).4GB+ of memory.Like to have:Nice looking. The UX31 is very beautiful inside and out - even the bottom! Yet is very solidly built.Quiet. This system is very quiet and doesn't get hot. The venting is in front of the speaker behind the keyboard and out the bottom.Lightweight. The UX31 is < 3 lbs. What's not so good? All systems have drawbacks - here's my list for the UX31:- The keyboard isn't as good as I'd like. It's not bad, but you definitely have to type more deliberately than a "regular" keyboard.- The battery isn't user-changeable. You have to send it to Asus to service.Bottom line: I did all the research across all the companies (you should see my spreadsheet :P ) and the UX31 is the hands-down winner for this category of system.---As a side note, if you really want more than this, my larger laptop choice is the Dell XPS 15z. It is really a MacBook Pro competitor and costs a lot more than the UX31. I'd recommend the Plugable USB docking station and the Build laptop and accessories cases to go along with the UX31. All purchasable on Amazon of course! And by the way, the UX31 is in short supply. Don't give up - just keep looking. I thought I'd have to wait weeks, but I found a place with it in stock and free shipping (I had it in two days!!).

This ultra notebook outperforms others in its class, hands down.Comparing the cost to a MacBook Air 13.3", if you add up the peripherals and warranty that come with this computer versus what Apple charges for the comparable items, this computer is $310 cheaper than a MacBook Air.Great machine. Loving it.
ASUS Zenbook UX31E-DH52 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Ultrabook Real Reviews
{I was looking forward to getting this laptop for a very long time because I really liked the Air form factor but really dislike the closed nature of the Apple ecosystem. The Asus is definitely a beautiful laptop and I liked its design a lot, but I think they got the basics wrong, which is shocking: wireless, touchpad, keyboard, and customer service. First and foremost the wireless did not function correctly. At first I noticed that it went in and out even though I was sitting right in front of the router and none of the other people in the room with laptops experienced the same problem. Alone, I could live with this, but if you plan to stream a lot of content, be forewarned. Second, when I opened up my laptop after closing it for a bit, it couldn't find ANY wireless networks. I had to troubleshoot, at which point it told me that the network adapter had been turned off and asked me if I wanted to turn it back on again. This happened EVERY time I opened the lid - so, so much for your instant connect. I really just can't imagine any good reason for why any computer manufacturer would ever default the computer to disable the wireless without the user asking for that. I updated the WLAN driver, updated the BIOS, and also changed the power settings so that wireless would never be turned off to conserve power. I did everything, and nothing fixed these issues for me. I should add that I have a very nice, relatively new $160 router - it's not the router!Second, even though I updated the driver for the touchpad, I kept experiencing problems with it. Scroll worked ok, but not as smoothly as on an Air. However, the special gestures just didn't work properly. I'd try to zoom in or out and it would zoom too much or too little and when I tried to rein it back, it just kept overshooting and it just wasn't usable. Likewise, every zoom in or out took a while to actually update, so you'd just be sitting in front of a frozen page while it tried to change the size of the page - it wasn't an instant experience like on the iPhone or the Air. I ended up disabling those features. Likewise, the touchpad insisted on zooming even when all I was trying to do was scroll. So....it's livable, but it's no improvement on the standard touch pad if the gestures are basically unusable. Third, the keyboard just wasn't great. I'd type and it would miss every 5th key or so. I'd have to go back and retype everything. I feel like this is something I could probably get used to after a while and train myself to type harder, but it just seemed strange to be having such a basic issue on a very expensive, top of the line laptop, when even the cheapest netbooks had better keyboards.Fourth, I called Asus customer support. I had registered my laptop and had become a member with the support stuff, but they insisted on taking my name and email and machine number, making me respell everything three or four times. I'm really not kidding - it took them 10 minutes just to get that info down and I don't know what the point of registering with the site was if I was going to be asked all this stuff again. I told them I had wireless issues and they didn't suggest changing power saver settings or getting the new WLAN driver (I read about that online), instead they suggested updating the BIOS. They sent me a link to their updates page and that was it. So, first of all, I feel like they didn't offer all available fixes. Second, when I went to the page there were three BIOS options and I had no idea which one I needed. I got all three, but then I couldn't open and install them! My friend figured out you had to go to a utility on the computer to get them updated. NOWHERE did it say how to implement these updates. We did use the utility, but then there was no feedback to say that anything had been updated, so who knows if it even worked. I called support back and they insisted that I give them all of that personal info again, even though I had a service number from the last time I called. So I had to repeat my name 5 times yet again! Don't they have all that info on file from the last call?? Why give a service number if you're going to spend 10 minutes asking me basic info AGAIN? So I gave him all that info and he started doing something and I was on hold for a while and we got disconnected. I called a third time, and they asked me for all of my info AGAIN. I told the person that I had already given info twice in the last hour and I didn't want to do it again, since clearly it was in front of him now that I had provided a service number and the info twice before. He insisted three times that he couldn't help me without me "verifying" that the info was correct. So, I gave up and hung up. So, be forewarned, trying to get service is both unhelpful and frustrating. In the end, I decided to send this back and I'm typing this review from an Air. Trust me, I waited for over a year to replace my laptop just so that I wouldn't have to buy an Apple, but dealing with the Asus truly drove me into Apple's arms. With the Air, none of those issues are a problem. If you ever need tech support, you show up at an Apple store and someone helps you instantly - no calls to Bangalore with people who are just reading from a script. Everything just works. There's no bloatware. In the Asus, you had both Asus and Windows utilities that seemed to conflict- like more than one manager for power and wireless. You might have fixed a problem in one and not the other. Plus, you get a nice backlit keyboard and pretty amazing gestures. Sure, it's more expensive, but if you're going to shell out over $1000 for a laptop anyway, don't you expect the most fundamental things to work?As an aside for Asus's benefit, since you guys read this site, I think you sunk not just the Zenbook, but the entire ultrabook campaign. People really thought they'd finally get an Air alternative and then were sorely disappointed. Guess what? They did what I did - returned your computer and got an Air. Guess who won't be buying another laptop for another 2 years or so? All of the people who were disappointed with yours! But, that's not just bad news for the Zenbook, it's bad news for you because those of us whose first intro to Asus was the Zenbook now believe that you make half baked products. Likewise, you've proven yet again that no one can do it as well as Apple. This is all very unfortunate because many of us were rooting for an Apple competitor and many of us truly do believe that the more open approach to software development and platforms is the right way to go. But, by creating yet another crappy product, I think you're driving many people to believe otherwise. Problem is that once Apple gets you into their ecosystem with one product, they really make it appealing to then add other products or services to that ecosystem and the more people do that, the harder it will be for you to ever get them out of it. I think you missed a real opportunity to turn things around for yourselves.|I'm not as tech savvy as most of the other reviewers, and most of their comments are spot on. I purchased mine from BB. It has a different part number [UX31-RSL8]. Not sure if there is any difference. BB listed the color as Radiant Silver. I wish they would state what it is: Dark gray. As for the Asus updates, it does sound like they rushed this unit out the door. On the Asus site there are 27 updates available. Everything from trackpad to bios. I have no clue which ones to download,[Any tips?] so I only did the ones that were in the popup from Asus when the computer is first used. One was the track pad update and this has helped somewhat, but there are others on the Asus site. Now the pad is too sensitive. Attempted scrolling often becomes an unintentional tap. I see no provision for any adjustment of pad sensitivity. Adding a mouse does not help when I use it on my lap. The screen is very sharp, but my last netbook, [Asus S-101] had a matt screen. I miss the matt screen a lot. This screen is like a mirror and detracts from the viewing experience. To use this laptop on a desk is fine. However,I usually use it on my lap, like when sitting on a couch. The sharp edges and corners of the deck are sharp enough to cut my palms. Why couldn't they bevel these edges? For me, this is a serious flaw. The SD card slot only allows the card to go in half way. The S-101 hid the entire card. WiFi performance is fine, but I did go into the advanced settings in Power 4 Gear and change the wireless card setting to full power. It had a desktop display gadget for P 4 gear, but I somehow lost it and can't find a way to retrieve it. I miss it because sometimes it goes into battery saving mode for no reason. I worry about the life of the tiny AC plug. It looks too fragile. Even with all these gripes, this is a great computer with top notch performance.|This is a thing of beauty, but laptops need a few key things to really work well and these things depend on how you use it. I touch type, and I need a keyboard that does not miss keystrokes. there is nothing more frustrating in the world than to have to shift focus to making sure you are doing something differently, especially like typing. I've almost never met a keyboard I didn't like, but this one has my fingers in spasms and convulsions. the thing is it sounds like you are typing but the keystroke can make a noise, but not register. this is especially apparent on the larger keys like the enter button, but it seemed to happen randomly throughout the keyboard on various words. writing any code, especially javascript with all it's {}[]'s was a nightmare. I think if you touch type you should really go look at one in the store and pull up a flash typing game to test how accurate your typing was. I gave it a day or two and really wanted to love it, because the screen is great with a nice pixel density.The trackpad, while not great isn't that bad. I got the elan one, and the sandisk ssd. I didn't notice any slowness on the ssd. I had a few other nitpicks like the lack of 5Ghz in wifi, the placement of the delete key right next to the power button, and the lack of backlight.The only other issue I had was with the thinness of the front, it just seemed to be pushed away with my wrists while in bed. The corners are also a bit sharp and uncomfortable.I ended up returning the ux31 and getting 25% off a series 9 at the microsoft store, and I bought it for the keyboard but the device is very nice in every other way, it also has a matte screen, it's lighter, and it has a backlight for the keyboard.|I purchased this speedy zenbook the day after it became available after much research and anticipation. I experienced the terrible WiFI and touchpad issues at first. Still not crazy about the touchpad even after some updates. However, the WiFI now works perfectly since the early Dec update. BUT why couldn't this update been performed automatically? Nonetheless, maybe I am a novice, but did expect to encounter some problems with a brand new ultralight model. I did not want a MAC but I needed something light. The keyboard is tricky but I find that the angle of placement of the laptop and my fingers makes a difference. This is a gorgeous, extremely fast, super lightweight laptop with great graphics and sound. There are few others at this weight (not considering a mac) and they certainly have a better keyboard BUT they cost twice as much. Bottom line--not perfect but works well for me for travel, watching movies, web/email, and work (documents, excel, remote connections, etc.).|I read most reviews for this model and I thought there were many chances for me to get a malfunctioning product, but as many reviewers say, as you open the box you instantly think this product is made for you... incredible design and very light.So as I started using it, I thought about the flaws I'd read such as the keyboard, the trackpad and wireless reception, and I found out there were none of them present on mine! Perhaps the keyboard is different, but it's not slightly difficult to type at, it's just that the average keyboard has no spacing between keys and this one gives you a new sensation, but not a hard time typing.The wireless reception is perfect and the only odd thing about the trackpad is that it stops working on the edges each time you type, so that you don't accidentally move the cursor. Asus call this a feature, and is something you have to get used to, but besides that the multitouch gestures you can do are awesome: scroll up, down and to the sides, rotate images, go back or forward on files and browser, show all running windows on a nice interface or go back to desktop.I have a lot of confidence in Asus and perhaps I got lucky this time, yet it's the most extraordinary experience I've had with a PC and it was worth every peso.|So I've never reviewed anything on Amazon before but I feel compelled to review this purchase given how apprehensive I was while reading the reviews on this site and the contrast when I actually got my Zenbook-UX31e and experienced none of the issues people described. Here's what I ended up purchasingUX31E with 128GB SSD. I was hoping for the ADATA SSD since I thought they were the only ones supplying 128GB but I ended up with SanDisk. Obviously I can only comment on what I have but the SanDisk is blazing fast enough. Maybe the ADATA is faster, but I don't care. I got the Elan touchpad - had no issues with it before or after updating the drivers. However, I don't like using touchpads, not matter the laptop so I use a mouse instead. Touchpad is good enough when space is tight. Wireless - THe wireless did drop a couple of times in the first hour - and I was concerned. I switched from Wireless N network to Wireless B/G and have had no problems. I'll try the N again when I get back. Not a deal breaker since I'm mostly using this at cafe's and very few have Wireless N.Keyboard - Ok - everyone complained about the keyboard. How hard it is to type etc. I had 0 problems from the very beggining. Yes they have less travel than the macbook air's. Did not matter to me. Maybe my finger strength is ridiculous - I don't think so. Sometimes people exaggerate the problems they have when the write reviews. Like people who complained they need to hold the FN key down to change brightness - really. Come on. Ok - Now to the fun part. Build Quality - Wow!!! Solid aluminum. Industrial Design - Holy crap!! - I'm not a big mac guy but they know how to make hardware. Finally, so does someone on the PC side. This thing will turn heads, be different etc. Beautiful piece of kit. Battery life - Will exceed 8 hrs the way I'm using it. Browsing, light photoshop, development. I'm at 81% with 6hrs and 51 mins to go as I type this review. Performance - Not a single hicccup. In fact, I had 3 different installs going at the same time - A game, Photoshop and 7zip and no stutters while browsing. Sound - Amazing. Can't wait to blow away my friends with Macbook Air's and Pro's.|The wireless adapter is the pits.Tried, downloading all the drivers,tried all the KB's and double checked all the settings.It turns on and off on its own, loses it's connection repeatedly.Asus support was no help.It loses its wireless connection even when it is only two feet from my wireless modem.Signal shows fine, They need to fix this!!!! a notebook needs to have a solid functioning wireless connection!! With only two USB ports. I use one for a mouse, and the other for my USB hub, to connect all the rest of my perpherals. Now I have to use both of my available USB's when away from my hub so I can use a USB external wireless adapter. It would have been better if they put two USB2's side by side, with the USB 3 on the opposite side because ASUS Blue Ray recorder needs to USB's (without a powered hub)to functionThe rest of the computer works just Great.It was a eye opener for me the difference between a ultrabook,and a notebook, you have to carry around so many extra things like a powered hub, memory sticks, flashcards, BD/DVD drive, mouse, hard drive backup etc. kinda defeats the purpose of ultra portability.PattyB|My household has about three laptops and two gaming rigs and a bunch of electronics. My wife's two laptops are about 2 to 3 years old and both were awfully heavy. Since my wife brings around at least one laptop back and forth to work I figured it was time for something new. After reading several reviews online I decided the Asus was the way to go.The build quality of the machine is just fantastic. The brushed metallic body looks great. The screen is very bright and the keyboard is the nice chiclet style keys reminiscent of the Macbook Air. At any rate I would say it's build quality is just as good as any other Ultrabook on the market.The first thing I noticed after I booted up is that it's fast. The 128GB SSD hard drive really shines as it only took me about 2 minutes to have it completly usable. I also noticed that Asus did not include a ton of extra bloatware which is a nice feauture. Asus really paid attention to detail, The hardware itself looks fantastic and even the Intel and Windows 7 logos are subdued to match the rest of the color scheme.In conclusion, I'm an IT guy at work and a gadget freak at home. With 2 gaming rigs (GTX570's and SSDs) and several high end LED Tvs this laptop was still very impressive and I am hard to impress.|I've had this ultrabook for almost 3 months now. This is the machine I've been dreaming of since the Macbook Air came out. It's tiny, super portable, and thanks to the Solid State Drive, it's very fast (especially during boot-up). It never gets hot like every other laptop I've owned (Macbook Pro and ThinkPad T61). The keyboard is great (no backlight but the screen is bright enough to illuminate the keys). The trackpad is the biggest weakness (even after updatng its drivers) but really who cares? If you're doing any serious computing you should be using a full fledged mouse anyway. Only other problem I've had is random disconnections from my home and school networks. It's happened only a handful of time but I've had to reboot each time. If you like Windows and are looking for something portable, fast, and capable this is the rights machine.Also, I've run League of Legends on this machine and it ran at ~20FPS and looked beautiful. The integrated graphics seems to be able to carry its own weight.|I'was really happy when I got my zenbook, it looks so thin, and the case is not that shining, I like its apparence. And it is so light, I can carry it easily. The system also stats pretty quickly, and the screen is friendly looking. The only thing I feel bad is when I get my computer, it have some problems. It always restarts, especially when I download something. Another problem is bluescreen, it appears sometimes. So finally I return it. And they return almost all of my money, although I still waste some of them. I believe it will be your best laptop if everything goes well. If you want to buy zenbook, I am sure it is a good choice for you. But be sure you know enough information about this, and good luck.}

Asus X44L-BBK4 14" Notebook Computer i3-2330M 4GB 500GB Windows 7 Reviews
Asus X44L-BBK4 14" Notebook Computer i3-2330M 4GB 500GB Windows 7 Most Helpful Reviews
There must be dozens of iterations of a basic computer model, with the various CPUs, memory, I/O options, disk drive size, etc. I chose the X44 (mine is an H) because of: Brand reputation, screen size, newest CPU option (2nd gen Core i3), HDMI output, USB 3, and the good complement of disk and memory capacity and Win7 64bit.I am fully satisfied so far, coming from a very reliable and capable old Dell Inspiron. This ASUS feels as well built and is nicely equipped and performing. Upon first use, I found minimum bloatware. Manufacturers try to give you extra software that they think will make the computer easier to use, and tie you into their preferred services or way of operation. My experience is that most of the add-on software is more confusing than helpful, and adds overhead that can slow things things down. The first thing was to create system restore DVD's, which was easy using the ASUS utility. It took four disks. Next was to start doing updates. MS Windows updates went well. I hit a big problem when the ASUS wizard for drivers and utilities installed a WiFi upgrade. The WiFi ceased to work and was not even found by Windows. This was only solved by hooking up to internet via Ethernet cable, deleting all the network devices in the hardware setup, and then having Windows download and install the proper drivers. The audio upgrade was also problematic, and took manual intervention to get 'er done. I don't know how non-computer-savvy folks cope with buying and running a computer.Overall:Pros: Price/value, good components, minimal bloatware, good display (but glossy), solid keyboard, nice big trackpad, USB 3 and HDMI, textured work surface, great performance, MS Office Starter.Cons: Some pitfalls doing updates, "clicky" pointer keys, keyboard keys very sensitive, sound OK-kinda weak and tinny, only 2 USB ports, power port location sometimes awkward, unwanted trial software, glossy lid shows prints. If it lasts and performs as well as my old Dell, I can't ask more.Follow-up edit: I forgot to mention battery life. For a small battery pack, the run time is great. After a week of use, I have run it 3 hours straight a couple of times, as much time as I ever need, and had plenty of battery power left. That was regular performance. Then I discovered battery saving perf., so how long would it really run?

Samsung Series five NP530U4B-A01US 14-Inch Ultrabook Most Valuable Reviews
Samsung Series five NP530U4B-A01US 14-Inch Ultrabook Reviews Filled with Functionality
I bought this laptop right after my Thinkpad from 6 years ago finally gave up the ghost. What I wanted within a laptop was a thing that was quite portable, but didn't compromise any system specifications in generating it so. I decided to buy this laptop following a little bit of thinking, since it has some truly solid program specifications. Granted, it's only been a couple of weeks, but overall I have been very pleased with all the buy.Display/SpeakersThe 14 inch screen is nice and vivid, and has 1366x768 max resolution. For me, this resolution is ideal. Most likely what I like essentially the most concerning the display is the matte finish. Glossy finishes may be snazzy and shiny, for those who are attracted to shiny things, however the matte finish genuinely tends to make it significantly less complicated to determine the display in daylight. The speakers are pretty much what you'd expect for laptop speakers.Keyboard/TrackpadI have to admit that before acquiring this laptop I was wary in the keyboard, because the display unit in the store had lots of keyboard flex. When I got home, however, I have been pleased to report that the flex on this pc is practically non-existent. It took me a little bit to grow to be accustomed for the shallow keyboard, because on my last laptop, the keyboard felt like a typical desktop keyboard. Now that I have grow to be accustomed to the shallow profile, I've identified that the keyboard is very great. You can find things that can be improved, like backlighting, and including some type of an indicator on the hardware that you have caps lock on rather of relying on the short-lived on-screen notification. I did need to adjust the settings on the trackpad to address accidental palm touches whilst typing, but right after making the adjustment (the manual particulars how you can get towards the required screen), I have no real concerns. On the topic from the trackpad, it is very significant, and lots sensitive. The trackpad is programmed by default to respond to gestures comparable to what you'd expect for MacBook. While it wasn't directly discussed in the manual how to set the trackpad for scrolling based on edge input on the trackpad, I was able to obtain to the correct settings menu to enable this feature. The trackpad has two buttons, instead of what you see many occasions now with laptops where the buttons are a portion in the touchpad.CoolingThis is most likely my favorite portion of this pc. Historically I have not necessarily been great to my laptops in terms of cooling. I have a tendency to compute in bed. I suspect that a great portion of my former laptop's issues were really since I did not let it correctly cool. Regardless, I'm fairly pleased with this computer's cooling technique. It is totally silent. Completely. I can hear it, just barely, if I put the computer appropriate next to my ear. It's that quiet. The cooling program utilizes vents that happen to be situated on the bottom and ejects the heated air in to the hinge. Even then, the heated air is not really all that hot. It's a lot more slightly warm air. I'll say that in case you use the pc for hours on finish, you'll notice the keyboard becoming slightly warm, but with regards to warm laptops, this really is not a temperature I normally concern myself with. I've been watching the internal temperature as well, and I've never observed it go above 68C, most of the time becoming around 50C, and that's when running some processor-intense programs.Performance/Ports/bloatware/wireless cardAs far as the performance goes - This is undoubtedly the very best performing machine I've ever owned, possibly even the very best performing that I've ever utilized. The SSD in combination with the quad core processor tends to make this a really enjoyable knowledge. Right after obtaining my pc setup, it took 23 seconds to totally boot up, and 6 seconds to return from sleep. This was prior to operating a boot time optimization setting that Samsung contains using the pc. For the sake of ....ahem... research, I even ran this laptop by means of a grueling test - the Civilization V test. The pc handled the middle-of-the-road graphics settings like a pro. I did not try the higher-level graphics, but I wouldn't be surprised if it performed nicely under those circumstances as well. The personal computer has a smattering of ports, none of which I've had a opportunity to use but save the USB ports, but I'll surely be happy that they are there when I need them. The exact same kind of philosophy applies for the DVD drive. While I do not use it every single day, I do use it for factors like backups, and am happy to have the choice. The wireless works flawlessly. I in fact get a much much better signal reading on the laptop than I do on my other devices, and that is when the devices are directly next for the laptop. I'll say that I'm a bit disappointed that Samsung chose to contain bloatware on this otherwise fabulous machine. Fortunately I was in a position to uninstall them, but it is frustrating nevertheless. Also, among the large draws to this machine was the large internal difficult drive. By no means once more will I've to become worried about a complete hard drive.Size and Weight/Aesthetics/PriceThis is an ultrabook. Make no errors. It is thin, lightweight, looks like a true charmer, and expenses about what you'd anticipate for an ultrabook. In fact, comparing to other machines, I'd say that for an ultrabook this really is reasonably priced. Yes, it features a 14 inch screen. Yes, it really is a little bit thicker than other ultrabooks in the marketplace. Yes, it really is a touch heavier than other ultrabooks available on the market. But there's a trade-off amongst the ultimate thin and light machine and an overall robust machine. You get a heavier machine with all the larger screen, with all the difficult drive, using the DVD drive. Would I rather skip those items to acquire a slightly lighter machine? No. This model is currently really portable.Summary Positive/NegativesAll in all, it is a genuinely very good machine. I had to do some configuration operate out of the box. Aside from that and overall, some pretty minor complaints, this really is a true gem.Positives:- Thin, light, portable- 500gb difficult drive- FAST- Great cooling system- Nice 14 inch display having a matte finish- general comfortable keyboard, minimal flexNegatives:-Keyboard is not backlight-Needed to produce minor adjustments to trackpad settings out of the box

Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 0596A28 11.6" LED Notebook E-350 1.6GHz - Matte Black Client Reviews
I use both Mac and Windows computers but when it came to finding a small computer for travel the Lenovo came out at the top of my list. I wanted something lighter than my 15.4 inch laptop. I also wanted to get a netbook from a company with a good track record for service which eliminated Dell and Asus from the list. The Lenovo at 3.5 lbs is light and the 11.6 screen is XGA at 768 vs 600 lines of resolution. It has a separate AMD graphics processor which definitely helps with performance. The netbook does support two 4GB RAM modules for a total of 8GB of RAM.It has WiFi with excellent reception and with 802.11n it is much faster than my old WiFi laptop. It also has a 1GB Ethernet connection which I use when transferring large files from a desktop computer to the netbook before a trip. The speed difference of the 1GB Ethernet is very noticeable and cuts file transfer times by 90%.The keyboard is outstanding and has to be used to be fully appreciated. It has the action of a top quality aftermarket desktop keyboard and much better than any other I have used from HP-Compaq, Apple, Dell, or Toshiba. With a reduced size keyboard the extra feel of the Lenovo is much noticed and much appreciated. The best part is the pointer in the center which I find much easier to use than a touch pad when I cannot use a mouse, as when strapped into an aircraft at 30,000 feet. The netbook also includes a SD card reader which some people may find useful. It has a HDMI port which I do find useful when traveling. I can take a HDMI cable and hook the netbook up to the LCD televisions I find in most hotel rooms. All in all this laptop has met my needs, both for functionality and price. I didn't want to spend more than five on a laptop, and this was the perfect price for my needs and use.

ASUS G53SX-XA1 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop - Republic of Gamers Reviews
Excellent Laptop, really quiet for the hard work.I like: You can play any game at 1080p smoothly with high quality, for competitive gaming you can download at 720p, use filters and the processor does its job giving excelent fps ;). Virtual machines running smoothly. The illuminated keyboard gives it good look and uis very comfortable. The button to save energy or to bring the full Load PC performance is really very useful. The noise when you are playing really low compared to many notebook of market, has good cooling system with two air vents at rear.I dislike: The screen is not made from good quality, "Powered by Epson", but using a FULL HDTV with HDMI port to play casual games and watch movies will be very useful. The power cord on the right side is where it gets so clogged mouse, They should be put in the back. Without the power cord putted the performance has a problem to provide continuous power because it shows a small lag when it comes to areas of high load processing and graphics.I'm very happy with the purchase, i thing that you can't get the same performance with less money.I leave you the unboxing and 2 min of gameplay[...][...]

ASUS Republic of Gamers G74SX-DH71 Full HD 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop Customer Reviews
Very good laptop at a good price. One note, I found the LED/LCD display to be an issue. When set at maximum brightness the display is too bright to look at for long in low lighting situations without a headache starting. You can lower the brightness, however the built-in brightness controls work by dimming the LEDs behind the LCD by turning them rapidly on and off. This is very similar to fluorescent lighting and seems to cause flicker induced eye strain in a segment of the population including myself. I found best solution was to leave LED brightness at maximum and use software controls on the laptop drivers to lower the LCD brightness by adjusting the gamma, contrast and brightness settings. Eye strain and glare stopped. I also disabled the trackpad since it only gets in the way when typing. Other than that, perfect gaming laptop.

ASUS U36SD-DH51 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Laptop Customer Reviews
ASUS U36SD-DH51 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Laptop Reviews Full of Functionality
I purchased this laptop after reading thousands of reviews. I wanted something light (<2kg) with long battery life (>7h), small and powerful (>intel i5). I was considering other options like Acer S3, asus UX31, sony vaio SB/SA series and Toshiba Portege R835.S3- I am not a fan of Acer and it came with the SDD which I found too small.UX31- It is really good and nice but it has less connectors and was too expensive. Not sure if it can be upgraded.Vaio- I was about to buy it, but it was thicker and heavier and the battery was not so good. It had the option of the docking station though.R835- I read it had issues with fan noises and with excessive heating. But it was lighter than U36sd and had a cd-rom drive. Finally I decided to go for the Asus u36SD + an hybrid SSD/HDD Seagate Momentus XT .This machine as it stands is very good. It is light, long battery (8:30h in saving bat mode, but if you use video media it is near 4:30h), and powerful. The only downside is the HDD that comes originally, it is a 5600rpm and for my taste it is too slow. I wanted a faster HDD, but SDD are too small in storage size or too expensive. So, I went for an hybrid SSD/HDD (Seagate momentus).Changing the HDD is not difficult if you are a bit skilled and there are many tutorial videos on youtube that show you how to do it. You have to open the computer because the hatch under the laptop only gives access to the RAM memory. But, as I say, it is not difficult and the change is really worth. The speed increase is very noticeable from the very first moment. The laptop is very quite, no issues with fan noises or excess of heat. The keyboard is chiclet style and very comfortable. Also the mouse is multitouch and works very good.Clearly the down side of the computer is the screen. It is not the best screen in the world. It is shiny LCD but it is not the worse either (toshiba is worse). If you compare it with a MacBook Air... it is just a quite bad screen. If you are gonna use the laptop mainly outdoors, just buy a Mac Air or UX31 which also has a really good screen. However, for normal use indoors and seldom times outdoors it is ok. Actually, I don't think that working with a 13" screen is nice, so I just plug it to a desktop screen and it works great for me. But, as I said, if I need to use inside it is good and and enough. In addition, ASUS provides an utility that makes colors more vivid and a better contrast.Just a note, I use it inside and have the brightness at 50-60%.Note: it has a 2 year worldwide warranty not 1 year as it is stated in the specifications. It comes with 4gb of RAM in one slot. I bought and extra 4gb last week, and the difference in normal use performance almost did not change. However, to handle heavy tasks it is now better. But a regular user does not need the 8gb. 4 is enough. All in all, I am delighted with the laptop and I do recommend it specially if you combine with a 7200rpm HDD or an hybrid one, even an SSD.I give it 4 stars because I consider that 5 stars is perfection and this item is still improvable, i.e. screen and HDD. For all the rest it is perfect.

Apple MacBook Pro MB133LL/A 15.4-inch Laptop Reviews
Background:I wanted to buy the new unibody MacBook Pro. Tried it at the Apple store and here are my findings and opinions, and comparisons with the March 2008 model (MB134LL/A - the one I bought and am reviewing).Display on unibody model is super glossy and very reflective - and has no option for matte finish. Keyboard on unibody model did not feel as nice as the March 2008 model.Unibody model is slightly larger - bezel width is more than the March 2008 Model. Also, the March 2008 model is a lot cheaper (about $700), and there is an additional $150 rebate from Amazon.Meaningful specs difference:2.5 GHz versus 2.53 GHz CPU in the new high end one,2 Gigs of RAM versus 4 Gigs of faster RAM in the new high end (I upgraded to 4GB myself for $60),8600M GT 512MB versus 9600M GT 512MB in the new high end (20-30% faster),250GB 5400RPM versus 320GB 5400RPM in the new one (more on this below),The new one also has dual graphics (use the lower power one for more battery),but I'd always use the higher one, which would lead to less battery lifethan the March model.Display:Like I said, I prefer matte finish (or a glossy that is not like a mirror). The default colors were a little dull, so I went to System Preferences/Display/Color/Calibrate andtweaked around and saved a new color profile. It is MUCH improved now - much better saturationand has the contrast of glossy without the reflections.Usage:In less than 5 minutes, I upgraded to 4 Gigs RAM - bought that for about $60 from Amazon.I am keeping my two original 1 Gig sticks in case I need them in the future.I have VMWare Fusion running Windows XP Professional for some of my must-have Windows apps. I have given the VM 1 Gig of RAM and 40 Gigs of disk.Performance of Mac apps and Windows apps is superb.I am using a WD Passport 320GB USB drive for backups with Time Machine.Battery:Last about 2.5-3 hours with almost constant usage. The best thing is when I close the lid,it goes to sleep instantly, and wakes up instantly when I need it again, with no loss ofbattery regardless of how long it sleeps. That is VERY DIFFERENT from my experience withWindows laptops that lose battery even when sleeping. No idea why.Storage:It came with a 5400RPM 250GB HD. I bought a WD 7200RPM 320GB with a big buffer from Newegg - I plan to swap out the HD - that requires "minor surgery" so I am doing my researchbefore I do it this weekend. The new disk will be a lot faster, although the it comes with seems to be pretty fast already. I am swapping as I like doing stuff like that.UPDATE: I swapped the hard drive and did a full restore from Time Machine - it now is exactlythe same as my las back-up with all apps and settings, except with a bigger and faster hard drive. This "surgery" is t for the faint of heart. :-) And is probably totally unnecessary for most folks.Mac OS X:So simple. After using Windows PCs and laptops for over 15 years, I am amazed how easyand intuitive it was to use a new OS. I know Mac OS X is very powerful and I am just beginningto learn the advanced features to play with. Being able to run Windows XP in a VM with such a smallload on the system is very nice. I use software apps that are either not available on the Mac yet,or have much older versions on the Mac. This is not specifically about the MacBook Pro but thefact that the MacBook Pro has enough juice to do this is what is worth noting.Boot Times:When I shutdown and restart, it comes up in 30 seconds or so. Much faster than my experience with Windows laptops. Here's the best part - if I put the Windows VM to sleep in my Mac,it comes back up in seconds! Much faster than Windows used to wake up on a Windows laptop! So for a portable laptop, the MacBook Pro is quite powerful and fast.Overall:I am glad I bought this model instead of the new Unibody model. This is by far the best portable computerI have ever owned. I've always felt that the MacBook Pro carries a price premium over "equivalent" ormore feature rich Windows laptops, but now I know why. They are better.

When I left for the US I knew that Apple will be updating the Macbook Pro so I sold my iBook back home. I assumed it would come out by mid-January during Macworld and I was very willing to wait at least a couple of months for it to come. Suffice to say it didn't happen with the bloody Macbook Air coming out so I ended up using a Vista PC *groan* for a month and went on a EEE PC *sigh* til yesterday. For those looking for a computer avoid Vista like taxes and go Linux or better yet a Mac.When ordered I had to wait 16 more days til it reached my doorstep as only Apple had it on stock until recently. I then bumped it to 4GB RAM as it was cheaper to buy it separately and do it yourself. So what's new you ask? Unlike older MBPs it runs really cool so the the heat sink fan just needs to operates at 2000 rpm most of the time. This simply means I can comfortably put the notebook on my lap and it doesn't sound like a dust buster. Battery lasts longer and I got the much talked about multitouch. Faster processor, more video memory and larger hard disc drive differentiates this base model from the previous generation.

It's now eight days since I got my new MacBook Pro after more than 4 months reading and searching to get convinced enough to do that move, and pew I did it :)Let's start with the hardware specifications, it has 15.4 inch widescreen with (LED backlight technology) this extra-awesome hyper saturated colors. (I read a few articles about LED backlighting and it differs from the old CCFL screens, you can read more about that here http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/06/macbook-pro-backlight-comparison-led-vs-ccfl/ ). And it has an Intel 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo processor with 4 megabytes L3 cache, 250 GB 5400RPM SATA (low-noise) disk, 5 hours-long battery and Airport Wireless card that supports 802.11n technology with awesome reception accuracy and iSight camera. The most astonishing thing for now is the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard 64bit, AWESOME operating system, and I can really understand now why apple always said that it's the most advanced operating system in the world, they are right, it's. :) it's a very well designed for a great user experience and you'll see many snapshots in the next few posts and well. it has more than 300 new features over the previous version "Tiger 10.4 and the main thing you'll notice about mac is that it's a REAL FAST.The great news is that most of the well known and famous applications I needed are available for mac, like Microsoft office and it's open source clone open office, adobe creative suite 3, yahoo messenger, MSN messenger and iChat works as an awesome jabber chat client. Also, it's really fast.I use it mostly for music, internet, pictures, movies, homework pretty much what everybody uses a computer for. Also, I use it for my research, extensive statistics work and various medical work, and it works greatiLife is awesome and so is leopard (find out at apple.com)like when you turn on your pc it has load and load and load then when the desktop finally pops up then if you click on something it takes like 1/2 an hour to open upon this laptop it loads and and when the desktop shows you click something and it actually opens like its supposed toI have been using pcs all my life and i just got fed up with them.It is very nice computer to use especially during presentations (Apple Keynote is Awesome, especially, its presenter mode). Spotlight is very effective tool for searching for papers. Also, there are limitless possibilities and solutions for scientific purposes. Finally,Advantages:1- Very Fast.2- Reliable computer.3- Can run windows and mac osx applications (I use VMWare as a virtual machine).4- Lots of tools for your research (example ofr nice software for research: Sente, Papers, Endnote, Yep, ...etc).5- Stylish.6- Perfect Screen.7- Good Battery Life.8- Durable (I dropped it twice).9- Nice for chatting and communication (It's isight integration is flawless).10- Perfect software and hardware integration.Disadvantages:1- Needs more RAM (At least 2 GB Ram). Finally,It is a perfect laptop for a graduate student for the price.

Dang. Thought I had spotted a bargain with the new Sandy Bridge 8-core processor (2670), 8 GB RAM and what I thought was a good video card. But this card is the nerfed version of the GTX 560M. This card has another .5 GB video RAM, but only 128 bit memory bandwith vs. 192 bit. It makes a difference people. I benchmarked Crysis today. Couldn't even get 30 frames at native res on only high settings. very high kicked this thing's butt. sorry folks. asus, that's a fail. sending it back for the MSI alternative with GTX 570M card.

ASUS K53E-DH91 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop Reviews Full of Functionality
Reviews Of ASUS K53E-DH91 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop
I took a chance ordering on line because I couldnt find an Asus locally. The fit and finish of this laptop is impressive. The Mocha color seems tobe more attractive than black or silver. It has a ribbed finish and the touchpadstays pretty cool. It comes with a plethora of crapware which I havent yet takenthe time to get rid off, but I sure as hell will. It is probably the reason thatit is a little slow on getting to my screen. Although not as slow as that POS Lenovo that I sold off for twentyfive bucks. Like most of the mfgs today, youhave to go on line for the manual. Another PITA. I would rather they chargedanother 10 or 20 dollars for a full manual. The unit feels quite substantialand well made. Ive only had this for a few days so its pretty early to give anaccurate in depth review. I do have one problem which I emailed Asus about. The rightclick on the touchpad does not allow me to "X" out or click on other tabs, asnothing happens. I have to use an external mouse. Sort of defeats the reasonfor buying a laptop. They claim they will respond in 24 to 48 hours. Didnt happen.I'll give them one more day and then I'll call Amazon for a replacement. I'llsee what happens in the next day or two. So far I'm not too enthralled with theAsus support. Hope I didnt make a serious error in my purchase decision. If it allworks out, I'll update my review in about 4 weeks. Asus finally responded to my emailand they stated that the reason for the delay was due to a server problem. However,by that time I discovered that it was a "USER" error and I resolved it. So far, Im very pleasedwith this laptop. Dont think I could have found a better product. Unfortunately for meAmazons price has dropped by $20.00 and they dont price match on computers. Now its a really good buy if your in need of a decent laptop.

ASUS A53SV-XE1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop - Black Customer Reviews
ASUS A53SV-XE1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop - Black Reviews Full of Functionality
If you're looking at this laptop, you're probably searching for the same kind of laptop I was: a powerful, attractive, quality laptop that doesn't break the bank. I'm happy to say the Asus A53sv-xe1 meets these expectations nicely. Design is top notch. The A53 is attractive without looking garish. The black lid has a faint, nice looking interlocking cell kind of pattern on it. If that's not your thing the design is faint enough that it probably won't bother you too much. The lid feels nice and sturdy, pushing on it does not seem to affect the screen. The chiclet keyboard feels comfortable, typing is a breeze. The keys push down with a satisfying feel. Controls in games feel smooth. The touchpad seems decent and I don't mind using it but I prefer a real mouse. The entire keyboard area is built with aluminum, much like the Macbook Pro and looks/feels very nice. Nice quality. The A53 also feels pretty light, and it's a breeze to carry it around. Processing and graphics performance is excellent, as can be expected with a Sandy Bridge i7 processor, 6 gigs of DDR3 RAM, and an NVIDIA 540m with Optimus. The i7 handles most processing tasks with impunity. Games-wise, the A53 runs Crysis 2, Empire: Total War, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 smoothly at medium graphics settings (High for Crysis2). While playing, the fan noise is noticeable, but not annoyingly loud. The aluminum hand rest area felt quite cool while playing. The heat management techniques that Asus uses seem to be pretty effective. The hard drive is what holds the A53 back. The difference in speed between its 5400 RPM HDD and a 7200 RPM HDD is noticable, and performance suffers. Battery life is decent but not exceptional. You can expect around 4 hours of battery life of normal laptop use. A small positive is that in my experience Asus laptops tend to have large power bricks, the A53 has a nice sized one. The speakers seem to be pretty good, which is kind of unusual for a laptop in my experience. Nice and loud. One negative of this laptop is that it comes with a considerable amount of bloatware. If this bothers you you will need to spend some time uninstalling all of it, and may need to download some drivers from Asus's website to get some laptop functions working again if you do. In conclusion I have to say the Asus A53 is an excellent laptop for its price. In my opinion its positives of excellent design, performance, and price far outweigh its negatives of bloatware and 5400 rpm hdd. Asus once again proves it's one of the top brands in the business. However, those who might prefer a faster harddrive and more ports, including a USB 3.0 port, may want to consider the Asus N53sv-xe1 for around 90 dollars more.

I had purchased this laptop at best buy less than 30 days ago. I had a mishap, and the screen broke. I took blame for it. I then contacted Asus and told them I would like to have it fixed. They said I could send it in. I did, by the way, you have to do a LOT just to do that. Sent it out, have not heard from them. Today, 2 weeks later, I decided to check on it. Went to their website, entered my RMA number, saw they were waiting to hear from me since the 1st of Nov. Thought, ok, finally I will find out how much, and can have them fix it. Called up, got a run around, then they told me to check my email because that is how they give you the price etc. I did, and guess what, NO EMAIL! Ok, I thought, I asked how much will it cost to fix, they guy said "I do not know, you will have to get the email", again I told him I had no email yet. That is when he told me they would send another email in,,,,,,, get this............ 24 to 48 hours. What the??????????? So not only were they waiting to "hear" from me, but they do not even know why!! I really should have bought the MAC. I will NEVER buy from Asus EVER EVER EVER again!!!!! They can keep the stupid thing for all I care. I have no use for a product with NO support for it what so ever!
