Reviews Of ASUS U46SV-DH51 14-Inch Thin and Light Laptop
Not a lot to add that hasn't already been said.Great laptop. Light-weight. Horrible speakers. The boot time seems slower than usual but that might be the 5400RPM hard drive.I tried an SSD but this motherboard does not play well with the SandForce SSD controller. It booted a LOT faster but there were problems resuming from sleep or hibernate and on every 3rd or 4th boot the computer wouldn't recognize the SSD at all. This a known problem with the SandForce controller so I'm not going to blame ASUS -- just something people should be aware of before they buy. Perhaps an SSD with a different controller would be a better choice.I'm next going to try a 7200RPM hybrid drive and see how that improves the boot time. From other reviews it should bring it down under 20 seconds.Regarding the bloatware, you can pretty much remove everything with the ASUS branding other than the Wireless Console Utility and the AI Recovery. The first controls the hotkey enabling/disabling of the WiFi and the Bluetooth. Not sure about the reviewer who said this model doesn't have Bluetooth cuz it most definitely does. They also mentioned WiMax which this doesn't have so they must have been reviewing a different model. The AI Recovery creates the restore disks from the hidden restore partition so you'll definitely want to keep that until after you've made your disks. In fact, don't mess with any of the partitions until after you've made your discs. Out of the box the laptop comes set up with a C and a D drive and when I repartitioned to get rid of the D-drive and expand the C-drive I lost access to my restore partition.Getting it back was something of a pain but I did get it.After you've made your discs you can use them to reinstall everything factory fresh and at that point you will be given the option of eliminating the D-drive and having just one large C-drive.
