Cursing is relaxing and it's part of a personality. If you are a lady it would be better not to curse but sometimes you really need to. Also, language would be boring without curses. I have some nice ones of my own and I am attached to them severely. Some of them are in, some are out but they are a part of my everyday life. What is the best curse you have ever heard? There is a finnish curse which has a special sound. It has more than a meaning, especailly when you hear those Finns say it, PERRRRRKELE. Actually, the meaning is not hursh at all, at least compared to Croatian curses. Perkele is for hard working people with converged cheek-bones and rough voice. Here is some wiki info about perkele to prove my point:Perkele is a god in the Finnish mythology equivalent of the God of Thunder, which was also referred to as "Ukko", meaning "an old man". The name is originally taken from Indo-European cultures. With Christianity, the priests co-opted Perkele for one of the many names of Satan eventually turning the name of the god to a swearword. Today, "perkele" is one of the most common words of power in the Finnish language. The word also has a special role of realizing and strengthening the Finnish national identity when it is carefully used in occasions of exceptional determination and hard work. Perkele is a name from Finnish mythology that later acquired the meaning of devil. Perkele is probably the most well-known Finnish swearword outside of Finland. When used for expressing one's miscontent or frustration, perkele often suggests that the sayer is determined to solve the problem, even if it will be difficult. It is one of the first Finnish words learned by foreigner, as well as vittu. Vittu is a quite ancient word for the female genitalia but now has the literal meaning of "cunt." Linguistically it is used similar to how 'fuck' is used in English to add force to a statement or express frustration. Often considered extremely profane, its usage is nowadays not only limited to teenager slang, but is often used as an emphasis in a forceful or frustrated expression, as in "Mitä vittua" meaning "what the fuck". There, I hope it was an useful lesson for some of you. Perkele is also a swedish band and, as the picture shows, someone's nick name here in Zagreb. That guy has definitely left his mark, he signed his nick on the former mosque in the center of the town back in 1984. and it is still there. Onnea perkele! |
