Vaccuum booom - vakum bomba???????

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Noun 1. vacuum bomb - a bomb that uses a fuel-air explosive; "a thermobaric bomb can create overpressures equal to an atomic bomb".
Fuel-air weapons are particularly devastating. Those not incinerated are injured by the massive blast or the vacuum.
Typical injuries include:
1. Concussion, blindness
2. Rupture of the eardrums
3. Seared airways and collapsed lungs
4. Injury from striking solid objects
5. Multiple internal haemorrhages, internal organs displaced and torn
Human rights groups say fuel-air weapons are so indiscriminate that their use in populated areas violate international
The amount of pressure generated when the bomb detonates is up to twice that of conventional explosives.
Ordinarily, atmospheric pressure is a little more than 1 kg/sq cm (14.2 psi). In a fuel-air explosion the pressure reaches 30 kg/sq cm (426 psi).
As the blast wave spreads outwards, its destructive power is heightened by the fuel-air mixture reaching a temperature of 2,700C (4,890F).
Conventional high explosive such as TNT have a bigger blast, but the fuel-air blast is more prolonged and more damaging to buildings.
If the cloud mixture reaches confined spaces such as caves or bunkers, its effects are even more devastating because it is not diluted by the surrounding atmosphere.
As the cloud disperses, the main charge detonates and ignites the now extremely flammable mix of fuel and air. The ignition of the mixture produces a blast moving at supersonic speed - 3 kms per second (6,700 mph).
This effect is magnified by using more warheads.
After the bomb is dropped over the target area, a fuse fires a charge on the drums at 30 ft (9 metres) above the ground.
This breaks open the drums ans releases the fuel contents. The fuel spreads quickly in the air and produces a cloud approximately 60 ft in diameter and 8 ft deep (18 by 2.4 metres).
The US military has different types of fuel-air weapons. The weapon pictured here is the 552-lb CBU 72 and it was used in the Gulf War. It comprises three 100-lb drums, each of these holding 75 lbs of ethylene oxide.

Ethylene oxide is used to manufacture other chemicals such as ethylene glycol which is used in vehicle anti-freeze, photographic solutions and ballpoint pen ink. Exposure to the chemical can damage the heart, kidneys and nervous system.
Fuel-air explosives are wide-area weapons that can be used for various purposes:
• Clearing or creating a landing site
• Mine clearance
• Installation pentration

They are most effective in fortified or built-up areas such as bunkers, caves and trenches where the explosive aerosol cloud intensifies in confined spaces beyond the reach of conventional explosives.
Rusija testirala "vakuumsku bombu"
MOSKVA, 11. rujna 2007.

A evo i prvih reakcija nekih čelnika:

* Wladimir Putin: "Ovo oružje ćemo koristiti isključivo u samoobrani - na bilo kojem dijelu zemljine kugle"!
* George Bush:"To nije ništa novo.
A čije ?"
