Geelong Locomotive Depot 5, c 1979
The story here is that B63 rolled into the turn table pit at Geelong Loco depot, in about 1979, there was also a B class, No 64 or 65 that rolled into the turntable pit at Seymour, the other consecutive B class number was at Ballarat Loco that night, story goes they rang up Ballarat Loco and told them to make sure the Hand Brake was on tight.
I'm not sure, but that person with the camera on the far left of the photo looks like Phil Hayward, a night shift welder at the Geelong Ford Factory, he was killed, along with 5 other people, at Farm House Corner, on the Hume Hwy, between Gunning and Yass, opposite Bill Grangers farm. A LTL Louisville, one of Grays, went around the corner South bound and lost it, his trailer took out three North bound cars with 2 occupants each.

From Wikipedia:
St John's Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral of Brisbane and the metropolitan cathedral of the ecclesiastical province of Queensland, Australia. The cathedral is situated on the outskirts of the city centre and is the successor to an earlier pro-cathedral on William Street in the heart of the central business district which was predated by All Saints Wickham Terrace (1862), the oldest Anglican church in Brisbane.
The cathedral possesses a four manual pipe organ, the largest cathedral organ in Australia, which hosts many recitalists from across the world: Pearson's design (and stone-vaulting) creates a five-second reverberation making organ-music particularly resonant.
St John's Cathedral is unique in Australia as the completion of the building design was achieved through collaboration between clergy, stonemasons and architects over a period of almost 100 years, as with Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals in the Middle Ages and, more recently, 20th century cathedrals such as Liverpool Cathedral in England, St John the Divine in New York and Washington National Cathedral in Washington DC. It is also the only Victorian Gothic cathedral under construction in Australia.

From Wikipedia:
The Old Treasury Building was constructed between 1858-62, and is considered one of Australia's finest Renaissance Revival buildings, constructed in palazzo form and built from wealth accumulated during the Victorian Gold Rush to house the state gold vaults.
The building was designed by young architect J. J. Clark at just 19 years of age. The oldest surviving designs for the building date back to 1857, and many of JJ Clark's drafts are on display throughout the building. Clark later went on to design the Brisbane Treasury in Queensland, considered to be another fine example in a classical style.

Somali wild ass
A few weeks ago I went along to see some friends of mine take part in a 10k run. The run was held at a well known zoo in the south of England and accord to their website anyone coming to support the runners would get a discount on the normal entry price. I got ?3 off of the ?16 entrance fee. I, and most of the other people coming to support friends and loved ones in the run, were not impressed. After the run I thought that I should make the most of the ?13 entrance and see some of the wild and exotic animals that zoos are famous for. I haven’t been to a zoo since I was a kid and don’t remember too much about them but I’m sure they weren’t this crap!
We wandered around caged enclosures of nothing with signs alleging that there was something really dangerous in them. I though the Desert Carnivores centre might have something wild in it but it turned out to house a very small sleeping tabby cat and a selection of extremely small tortoises that live off insects and plans. I’ve seen wilder things in puddles.
For sheer comedy value my favourite animal was the ‘Somali wild ass’ (which was a very bored donkey) complete with a sign saying how dangerous it was. This almost made up for the entrance fee!
I think zoos would be a lot more fun if they were like the wild. If they put Gazelles and Lions in the same enclosure then I'd happily pay ?16 to see it!
Panasonic DMC-LX5
aka, new shiny! Unplanned new shiny... found a new home for my (still) shiny LX3 and consequently had a good excuse to upgrade to the LX5. :-D
Was it worth it? Probably not, but my LX3 found a *really* good home...
And the longer zoom with improved reach (24-90mm/f2.0-3.3) on the LX5 vs the shorter (24-60mm/f2.0-2.8) on the LX3 is rather nice. The rest of the upgrades aren't quite as significant to my use. These include:
* h.264 (AVCHD Lite) instead of MJPEG for 720p movie recording (nice but not as critical).
* control dial instead of 4-way joystick (much less impact than I expected).
* button for playback mode rather than switch (thought this would be a bigger deal...).
* faster performance of AF, file writes, etc. (nice but LX3 was *just* fast enough).
* improved image stabilization (improved, yes, but not worth the price on its own)
* reduced image noise (ISO800 is now still ugly but barely usable vs. before...).
* improved dynamic range (it's there, but not hugely so).
* faster burst model (2.5fps) but unfortunately still a tiny buffer (just 3 shots).
* optical zoom while recording (quite nice!).
Lots of nice little improvements but nothing groundbreaking. Added together, even then it's hard to justify upgrading from an LX3 (or Canon S90) to an LX5... but hey, if you have an excuse to upgrade, then it's probably worthwhile.

The Fuji X100
My new Fuji X100 camera. I'm in love with it's retro design! It's the poor man's Leica. Finally caved in and had it imported from Hong Kong after waiting months for it to be released, THEN another half year waiting for local stock. It has been sold out everywhere! Demand reached a feverish point when first released and in some cases, had been selling on ebay for over $2000 (RRP is $1200). A lot of people who pre-ordered early sold the X100 to make a cool $200/$300.
I experienced a small delay in shipping and after ringing FedEx to find out what the problem was, I had the very unpleasant surprise of being told that I would have to pay almost $200 in customs. So I paid $1350 to have it imported which means I paid $150 over retail price, PLUS I had to pay another $200 in customs which means I could have just gotten it on ebay when it was first released!
But all my initial annoyance and frustration was quickly forgotten once I held the camera in my hands :)
Trying out my new camera
I was so sad, when my beloved Olympus Camedia C 740 (in 2003 it cost 700 Euros!) died ( I let it fall down the stairs *ouch*) and have used my daughter's Fuji Finepix since then, but it just wasn't the same. So for my birthday my dear daughter got me the Olympus Camedia C 760 from ebay. They go away for real bargain prices now. It's a newer and better model from 2004 and it looks brand new and feels brand new to me too. These cameras are so so good and it's a pity that Olympus is not doing the C 700 series anymore. I'm very happy I got another one though! :D

2-NIKON-D-3000-PROFESSIONAL-DIGITAL-CAMERA
CAMERA - A camera is a device that records and stores images. These images may be still photographs or moving images such as videos or movies. The term camera comes from the camera obscura (Latin for "dark chamber"), an early mechanism for projecting images. The modern camera evolved from the camera obscura.
Cameras may work with the light of the visible spectrum or with other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. A camera generally consists of an enclosed hollow with an opening (aperture) at one end for light to enter, and a recording or viewing surface for capturing the light at the other end. A majority of cameras have a lens positioned in front of the camera's opening to gather the incoming light and focus all or part of the image on the recording surface. The diameter of the aperture is often controlled by a diaphragm mechanism, but some cameras have a fixed-size aperture. Most 20th century cameras used photographic film as a recording surface, while the majority of new ones now use an electronic image sensor.
The still camera takes one photo each time the user presses the shutter button. A typical movie camera continuously takes 24 film frames per second as long as the user holds down the shutter button, or until the shutter button is pressed a second time.
From its inception, the camera has been instrumental in the recording of still images from then-present surroundings, and further modifications led to the development of motion picture sequences in the late 19th century. Cameras and the exhibition of camera-captured images are widely used in both professional and consumer settings in the 21st century for both mass and interpersonal communication purposes.

my old school film camera, it had its days, before i got my digital camera. even thought this was an economy valued camera back in the late 70's, it still worked till now, and produced some really fine work. This camera was also really small, so it was no hassle to bring it to other places. It also didnt have any lag time or such like digital cameras have today, this is why i loved it--- it just worked.
i remember it all like it was yesterday, going to the city the first time using this camera, boy did i have some nice shots. The same week i also traveled to places like Port Jefferson and Nortport, and got some more shots. then i did a little survey of commack, and did a lot of my shots come out with great amazement. the only lens that i really used was the 50mm that came stock with it, its all you really need for street photography or photojournalism. small and lightweight i kept it in the glove compartment of the car, so it was with me whenever i needed it.

Fort Moultrie Powder Room -121
Fort Sumter National Monument
Fort Moultrie
Sullivan Island, SC
The first fort on Sullivan's Island was still incomplete when Commodore Sir Peter Parker and nine warships attacked it on June 28, 1776. After a nine-hour battle, the ships were forced to retire. Charleston was saved from British occupation, and the fort was named in honor of its commander, Colonel. William Moultrie. In 1780 the British finally captured Charleston, abandoning it only on the advent of peace.
After the Revolution, Fort Moultrie was neglected, and by 1791 little of it remained. Then, in 1793, war broke out between England and France. The next year Congress, seeking to safeguard American shores, authorized the first system of nationwide coastal fortifications. A second Fort Moultrie, one of 20 new forts along the Atlantic coast, was completed in 1798. It too suffered from neglect and was finally destroyed by a hurricane in 1804. By 1807 many of the other First System fortifications were in need of extensive repair. Congress responded by authorizing funds for a Second System, which included a third Fort Moultrie. By 1809 a new brick fort stood on Sullivan's Island.
Between 1809 and 1860 Fort Moultrie changed little. The parapet was altered and the armament modernized, but the big improvement in Charleston’s defenses during this period was the construction of Fort Sumter at the entrance of the harbor. The forts ringing Charleston Harbor – Moultrie, Sumter, Johnson, and Castle Pinckney – were meant to complement each other, but ironically received their baptism of fire as opponents. In December 1860 South Carolina seceded from the Union, and the Federal garrison abandoned Fort Moultrie for the stronger Sumter. Three and a half months later, Confederate troops shelled Sumter into submission, plunging the nation into civil war. In April 1863, Federal iron-clads and shore batteries began a 20-month bombardment of Sumter and Moultrie, yet Charleston’s defenses held. When the Confederate army evacuated the city in February 1865, Fort Sumter was little more than a pile of rubble and Fort Moultrie lay hidden under the band of sand that protected its walls from Federal shells. The new rifled cannon used during the Civil War had demolished the brick-walled fortifications.
Fort Moultrie was modernized in the 1870s, employing concepts developed during the war. Huge new cannon were installed, and magazines and bombproofs were built of thick concrete, then buried under tons of earth to absorb the explosion of heavy shells. In 1885, President Grover Cleveland appointed Secretary of War William C. Endicott to head a board to review the coastal defenses in light of newly developing weapons technology. The system that emerged, named for Endicott, again modernized the nation’s fortifications. New batteries of concrete and steel were constructed in Fort Moultrie. Larger weapons were emplaced elsewhere on Sullivan's Island, and the old fort became just a small part of the Fort Moultrie Military Reservation that covered much of the island.
As technology changed, harbor defense became more complex. The world wars brought new threats of submarine and aerial attack and required new means of defense at Moultrie. Yet these armaments also became obsolete as nuclear weapons and guided missiles altered the entire concept of national defense.
Today Fort Moultrie has been restored to portray the major periods of its history. A visitor to the fort moves steadily backwards in time from the World War II Harbor Entrance Control Post to the site of the Palmetto-log fort of 1776.
William Moultrie
William Moultrie was a General of the 2nd South Carolina Regiment in the Revolutionary War. His regiment occupied a fort on Sullivans Island and was able to hold off the British from taken South Carolina at the time. The fort would later be name Fort Moultrie and was also used during the Civil War. Moultrie would be elected to represent South Carolina in the Continental Congress in 1784. He would only serve the one year before resigning to take the office of Governor of South Carolina in 1785. Moultrie is buried behind the Visitor Center at Fort Moultrie on Sullivans Island in South Carolina.

Everything working!!!
Started out the day having a bit of a crisis with Parallels Desktop - it installed beautifully but then I discovered that the Release Candidate version which contained the features I wanted didn't work with non-US activation keys so I thought I was fairly soundly stuffed, for the moment anyway (although not totally as the next upgrade which will include those features will be free to registered users).
Hurrah for the forum though, where a tame Parallels person revealed to me that the official release of the upgrade is less than a month away, so I figured I might as well install the trial version of the RC. And it works (so far) like a dream. Even Photoshop CS seems to be happy. Not quite so super-speedy as under Boot Camp, but seven million trillion times faster than I'm used to, and at least I'll be able to get at all my apps all the time and will only need to go into Boot Camp when I want to play games or if I'm planning on a long session in Pshop or InDesign or Flash and want maximum speed. Sooooo funky. And in the end it didn't even ask me for a new activation key, so not sure what was going on there. But happy now :-)
Galactic Sound Key- Base Chakra
This set of Light-Language activation artworks are designed to open a stream of magnified pure pranna through each chakra returning us to the flow of creation!
Each artwork represents a specific rarified slice of cosmic consciousness and is designed to restore the original intent of creation.
They reach each individual at their appointed level of awareness offering up gifts of light and sound as they gently lift, clear and purify the vibration for higher and deeper inspiration.
As each level of a dimensional state of consciousness is metabolized, integrated and synthesized through the being an alignment and synchronization occurs, releasing specific dormant codes of creation stored in activation points within the DNA.
Called the illumined language of resonance, the ancient mysteries of the heart, or the song of source, these codes are shift indicators that transform our whole being into vessels of pure light.
