Pumping Station, Workington, Cumberland United Steels pumping-station, between the Black Path and the River Derwent, taken sometime in 1985. This is a nicely-proportioned gem of industrial architecture, but is looking rather shabby on this picture. The two electrical supply transformers with their conservator tanks can clearly be seen, separated from each other by a blast-wall. The purpose of this pumping-station was to supply the Derwent Blast-Furnaces with cooling-water. The pumping station is still extant, but its future is uncertain. FYI: Chestnut Removal $50 My truck wouldn't start very well today. I had to about floor it to keep it running. I replaced the fuel flow regulator about a year ago and the symptoms were identical. I limped into the shop where they informed me that it was probably either the fuel flow regulator, $250, or the fuel pump, $600. Forty-five minutes later, it turns out a pile of chestnuts (mechanic deduced they were walnuts) were packed in my engine compartment. If you've ever been charged more than $55 for nut removal, you got ripped off. Source of good luck ~ Trolls by Russ Source of good luck Part of the dolls charm was that it was so ugly - it had huge ears and a pot belly, no forehead and long strands of sheep's wool for hair. Danes believed the dolls were so ugly that you had to laugh at them and if you were laughing, nothing bad could happen to you. Soon the dolls became a source of good luck to people around the world. Initially they were favored by high school and college girls but soon grown men were carrying them around on their travels. Keyworth Church Keyworth (Monday September 15th, 2008) The earliest document to mention Keyworth is Domesday, dated 1086, but recent (2001) finds on the parish outskirts, of Roman and pre-Roman coins and other artefacts suggest human occupation goes back at least another thousand years. Keyworth is a hilltop village in an area of gently undulating boulder clay country, ranging between 200 and 300 feet above sea level. It is situated some seven miles south-east of Nottingham. Until the 19th. Century it was linear in form, with most of the farmhouses and labourers’ cottages flanking a single quarter-mile-long street (now called Main Street); and with, at its northern end, the church, the Manor Farm and a small open space (now called The Square) with village cross, pump and pinfold, all of which have now gone. The village logo is a windmill, but this was demolished in the 1950s. The parish was enclosed following the passing of an Act of Parliament in 1798. Before that date land was divided into three large arable fields, which were themselves fragmented into some 3,000 strips farmed under the Open, or Common Field system. In addition, there was a large area of common pasture, which also provided the main source of firewood for the village. In 1801 the population of Keyworth was 325, the great majority of who were either farmers, farm labourers or their dependants. The 19th. Century saw three radical changes. First, the open fields and common pasture were enclosed, which also involved redistribution of the old arable strips into more compact land holdings, no longer subject to common regulation, and the abolition of all common land. The landscape outside the village was transformed as a network of hedges and ditches covered the parish. But the appearance of the built-up area was little affected: most of the new landholdings radiated from the village, so farmhouses were not relocated, but remained alongside Main Street and The Square, which continued to be coated with mud and manure well into the 20th. Century. The second change was a rapid expansion of the domestic framework knitting industry, introduced to the village in the previous century. It became the main source of employment by the 1860s. Numerous framework-knitting workshops, with their characteristic long windows to give maximum light to the knitters, became a distinctive feature of the village. Only two survive today, one of which is a Grade II listed building. The expanding framework-knitting industry gave rise to a third change: population growth, to a 19th. Century peak of nearly 900 in 1881. Many new cottages were built, housing both agricultural labourers and framework-knitters; they not only filled gaps in the old village, but also led to some ribbon development along roads leading to the north, east and west. It did not occur on the road leading to the south (Wysall Lane), where the old village still abuts directly onto open country. Two other significant 19th. Century developments were the rapid growth of Primitive Methodism, which, together with an older and modestly flourishing Congregational church, meant that Non-conformists greatly outnumbered Anglicans; and the establishment of a non-denominational Board school in 1872, fought for by the Non-conformists in the teeth of fierce opposition by the rector and his supporters, who had built a church school only ten years earlier. The animosity generated by ‘The Battle of the Board’ took decades to subside. Ironically, the Board school was demolished in 1985, but the church school survives as the parish hall. Towards the end of the 19th. Century, the two mainstays of the village economy declined: framework knitting was becoming concentrated in town-based factories, and agriculture was entering a long period of depression as cheap imports of grain, meat and dairy produce flooded the domestic market. In 1880, however, a railway station was opened in Plumtree, bringing Nottingham within commuting range of Keyworth, thereby heralding the basis of Keyworth’s future. But to begin with, few Keyworth residents turned to commuting - the station was a mile from where most lived - and many left to live near their work in Nottingham or elsewhere. Population numbers declined and were not to reach their 1881 level again until 1931. After the Great War, motorbuses replaced horse-drawn vehicles, and as these came right into the village many more Keyworth people began to commute. Few now used Plumtree station, and it was eventually closed to regular passenger traffic in the 1940s, though the line remained in use until the 1960s. Meanwhile, as growing numbers of townspeople sought a healthier life in the country, Keyworth became a focus of inward migration. This was reflected in further ribbon development, much of which took a circular form, following pre-existing roads to the north and east of the old village, leaving a large area of farmland inside the circle. If you look real close (at least on the original you can) the Regular here last sold for 0.29/gallon and the Ethyl was all of 0.32/gallon. Dolphins spotted behind our ferry boat! The Bottlenose Dolphin is the most common and well-known dolphin. Female Bottlenose Dolphins live for about 40 years, whereas males rarely live more than 30 years. The species is commonly known for its friendly character and curiosity towards humans immersed in or near water. It is not uncommon for a diver to be investigated by a group of them. Occasionally, dolphins have rescued injured divers by raising them to the surface, a behaviour they also show towards injured members of their own species. Such accounts have earned them the nickname of "Man's best friend of the sea". On our boat trip from Vernazza back to Portovenere our captain spotted a group of Dolphins. It's very rare to meet Dolphins in the Mediterranean Sea. The captain of the ferry stopped the engine. It was an amazing experience! Dolphin encounter 1 ~ Just exploring! If they decide (like two I saw in Alamitos Bay) to 'visit' us, then we are truly enriched by the fleeting experience. Bottlenose dolphins are well known as the intelligent and charismatic stars of many aquarium shows. Their curved mouths give the appearance of a friendly, permanent smile, and they can be trained to perform complex tricks. In the wild, these sleek swimmers can reach speeds of over 18 miles an hour. They surface often to breathe, doing so two or three times a minute. Bottlenose dolphins travel in social groups and communicate with each other by a complex system of squeaks and whistles. Schools have been known to come to the aid of an injured dolphin and help it to the surface Similar posts: salt water sump pump battery powered backup sump pump breastfeeding breast pump submersible water pump manufacturers centrifugal pump analysis flojet pumps listen to pump up the jam lace up pumps shoes |

A smiling Kevin Pietersen runs onto the pitch with the Duckworth-Lewis calculations in hand realising John Dyson's careless blunder has handed England a win- West Indies v England 1st ODI Providence 2 An amazing miscalculation from West Indies coach John Dyson handed England an extraordinary victory in the opening one-day international, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, when he misread the Duckworth-Lewis chart and called his batsmen in when they were two behind the required target. With the light fading Stuart Broad trapped Denesh Ramdin leg-before to tip the D/L target in England's favour, with West Indies needing 27 from 22 balls, yet Dyson insisted his not-out batsmen walk off after reading the sheet in front of him. Andrew Strauss knew his team were ahead, but Dyson needed convincing and went to see the match referee before the result was confirmed. It overshadowed what had been an excellent match and left Dyson with serious questions to answer. "When it came down to that last wicket I didn't go across the column," Dyson told Sky Sports. "I went down the wrong column. It's my responsibility, that's it. I've apologised to the team, that's all I can do. It was a bad mistake." It was another occasion when cricket didn't do itself many favours, but West Indies only have themselves to blame as they became preoccupied by the light for a few overs before actually walking off. Kieron Pollard clearly wasn't pleased with conditions before pulling James Anderson to deep square-leg where Steve Harmison, who had spilled a seemingly crucial catch moments earlier at long-on off Pollard, clung on, but West Indies were still a fraction ahead. That changed when Ramdin fell to the second ball of the 46th over and the next batsman hadn't even taken guard before the light was offered and the players trooped off. Dyson was convinced his team had won, but after frantically waving his clipboard around, he went to see the umpires and soon received the bad news. It brought back memories of Shaun Pollock's misunderstanding of the D/L method during the 2003 World Cup which cost South Africa a place in the Super Sixes. "Yes, it was a miscalculation," the captain Chris Gayle said. "He [Dyson] was actually looking in the wrong column because the last wicket changed the equation. There's no reason to point any finger. I'm not going to kill him." Strauss said the D/L target was on the scoreboard "but you can never be sure it's right". "I had a paper brought out to me and when the last wicket fell it looked as though we were a run in front of them but those tables are quite hard to decipher," Strauss said. "West Indies obviously thought they had won, otherwise they wouldn't have walked off." The game itself had swayed one way then the other, but West Indies appeared to have claimed a vital advantage after a scintillating Powerplay attack from home-town hero Shivnarine Chanderpaul. He slammed 26 off Harmison's seventh over which turned the chase completely in their favour as England's lack of confidence started to seep through once again. His assault was breathtaking; he cut Harmison square, audaciously swept him over fine leg for six then took four consecutive off-side boundaries between point and mid-off with increasing force. After the first four of those boundaries he'd managed more runs off his own bat than England did in their entire batting Powerplay that yielded a measly 17. With the adrenalin pumping he couldn't stop playing shots and picked out Strauss at square leg in the next over as he swept Broad. It gave England renewed hope, which increased when Anderson had Dwayne Bravo well caught at backward point, but Pollard was playing the best innings off his international career before his lack of experience came through as he tried to play for the light. The scenes of celebration on the England balcony when the result was confirmed suggested they'd won a much bigger prize, but this was their first international success of the winter and they weren't really too bothered about the circumstances. They produced some solid cricket throughout the day, firstly to post a competitive 270 on a sluggish surface with half-centuries from Owais Shah and Paul Collingwood, who suffered a migraine during his innings, and then to keep West Indies' reply under control under Chanderpaul cut loose. Shah, who responded after a disappointing Test series, reached his half-century from 67 balls and Collingwood took 58. With the stand progressing well England were well placed to launch on 190 for 3 after 37 overs, but a rain interruption came at a bad time for England and they struggled to find the same momentum after the break until Matt Prior provided some late impetus. Broad snared Gayle early which boosted spirits and although Ramnaresh Sarwan and Lendl Simmons built a stand of 125 it took them 27 overs with the asking rate climbing all the day. Collingwood continued his impressive match when he had Sarwan caught at midwicket and Simmons was then victim to the increasing pressure when he lofted Gareth Batty to deep midwicket. Two days ago Chanderpaul High pressure cylinder This large compound rotative engine takes some driving as its speed was supposed to be regulated by the pumping load so unlike any of the other engines at Kew this one has to be "hand driven" while in steam. The original throttle valve for this engine delivered so much steam that a smaller pilot valve (about a quarter of the size) had to be added , bypassing the large main valve. This now serves as the regulator for the engine making it far more controllable. Incorrect sitting posture - slouching Back pain is the second most common reason people visits their GP (the first is the cold/flu) accounting for more than 7 million consultations every year. Many sufferers rely on pain-killers and people suffering with chronic back pain are at a higher risk of developing depression. The NHS spends more than ?1 billion a year on treating back pain and in addition there are other (indirect) costs to UK businesses. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimates that musculoskeletal disorders, which includes back pain costs UK employers over ?600 million per year and claim that we have an 80% chance of getting a lower back problem at some point in our lives. In many cases, the pain is due to extra strain on the lower back muscles caused by bad posture from sitting in front of a TV/computer screen or ‘slouching’ on longer journeys in vehicles. BackCare, the UK Charity dedicated to helping us keep healthier backs (backpain.org) recommends; “When driving, maintain an upright posture.” By keeping the lower part of the back to follow the contours of the lumbar support, the correct upright posture is created, however, it takes constant conscious effort to maintain the correct upright position and so many people revert to spending hours in their vehicles in an un-healthy position (see figure). Prolonged ‘slouching’ causes the lower back muscles to tighten, working to protect the spine… and this can lead to muscular spasms – commonly known as ‘back ache’. The CG-Lock gently keeps the hips in the correct 'upright' position. posture du danseur / dancer form Posture de yoga: Natarajasana (Nata = Danseur, Raja = Roi, Natara, asana=position) Cette posture en rapport avec Nataraja (le danseur cosmique), represente l'un des aspects de la divinite Shiva.
