Surface water is water collecting on the ground or in a stream, river, lake, wetland, or ocean; it is related to water collecting as groundwater or atmospheric water.
All water naturally open to the atmosphere (rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, streams, impoundments, seas, estuaries, etc.) and all springs, wells, or other collectors directly influenced by surface water.
Water that flows in streams and rivers and in natural lakes, in wetlands, and in reservoirs constructed by humans.

operate like a pump; move up and down, like a handle or a pedal; "pump the gas pedal"
Surface skimmer pump attachment
This is the Surface Skimmer pump attachment I purchased to clean up and remove the surface film. It works by drawing 70-99% of the flow from the bottom opening. The rest of the flow is adjusted within said range to allow surface water to be sucked through the top. The adjustment allows fine tuning so air is not pulled through the system.

A little boy pumps water from a well standing in the flood in Bihar, India on September 30, 2008.
Along with thousands of other drinking water sources, this well has probably also been contaminated by dirty water, however the locals do not have an alternative source.
