This is taken from a series shot on an extremely windy, gusty day (up to 35 mph, I think) using my FF16 kite and holding on for dear life to the winder with both hands. The scene looks downriver to the west. The Boise city skyline is barely visible on the far left of the horizon. The hills are affectionately known as the Boise Foothills, very popular for hiking and biking. Near the highest visible mountain top is the local ski area, Bogus Basin. "Bogus" comes from Boise's brush with counterfeiters who were thought to be improving the value of their paper and ink in a mountain hideaway, probably more than 100 years ago.

Brintons fire, Kidderminster
This is a non photographic postcard depicting the aftermath of a fire at a carpet factory belonging to Brintons.
Dated January 23rd 1907, it is not known which part of the extensive factory the fire was in.
The reverse of the card contains text from a newspaper report of the time, the Birmingham Gazette and Express.

The Attic - My New Office
Well here it is - my new home.
I thought that living outside of the dorms was going to be difficult, but I've found that I'm actually pretty excited about it. The room is huge, with a great big vaulted ceiling, windows with a view of Mt. St. Helens outside, and two adjacent storage spaces connecting to it. There's a chicken coop in the yard which is currently un-occupied, but will be remodeled in the spring so that I can raise my own poultry.
I'm also within walking distance of the post office, several grocery stores including a vegan outlet store, and numerous cafes, restaurants, and shops of all kinds.
I photographed the room while standing in the middle of it. The first shot is looking back toward the staircase, with my 'office' to the right. The table there is 6 feet long to give you a better idea as to the size of the place. I'll be doing most of my taxidermy work here.
The second shot (below the first, on the left) is looking into the living section of the room. I'll sleep on two stacked mattresses, which I can separate if I have company over so that we each have a place to rest. I normally sleep under a jackal skin blanket, but it's in the process of being repaired right now, so I have two black rex rabbit fur throws on it instead. Naturally, I don't sleep with the leopard; he will be tacked to the wall after I have professionally felted by a Portland taxidermy studio after Christmas (my present to myself).
The bookcase is loaded with some of my favorite reading material and reference books: The Jaguar Princess, Life of Pi, The Immense Journey, Walden Pond, and various field guides to wilderness survival, edible plants in the area, and of course, taxidermy supply catalogs.
Zeeke, the coyote, is situated over the bed, and Mr. Skull, who is famous, takes the place of honor over the window as the center-point of the room. The curtains on the window below were hand-sewn just yesterday by my mom using a special hand-made fabric called batik, which we brought back from our two-year visit to Jakarta.
The rug came from a consignment shop, as did the coffee table in the middle; the dresser has been in my family for a long while and was made in the 1920s. Everything on it is hand-carved.
The final photograph to the right shows the little wicker book case we also brought back from Jakarta with us many years ago. I have Ashland the mountain lion curled up there, and will make an alter for him when I have more of the proper supplies.
The vase on the top shelf is actually a mortar shell from WWI, and is one of the most unique pieces of trench art I've held in my own two hands because it still has the original patina on it. I've got a mug made from a WWII mortar shell, but the vase is far more intricate. Trench art is fascinating to me.
Later, I'll photograph the alcove where I keep all my pelts, the mini-fridge, and my snowboard gear. I'll probably also photograph the attic space once I get it cleaned up a bit. Even though it's in an attic, I've taken to calling it "The Den" in my head, because it's where I'll spend most of my time meditating in the dark, playing my Native American flute, and smokin' the good stuff. I'll move a few chairs in there so my friends can join.

Snowball(Snowbie) is white and Domino is black and white. They often sleep like this with each other otherwise they are cuddled back to front. They are such great buddies. Domino was in a man's hand when he came to us..so tiny..and Snowball welcomed him right away. We think he might have thought it was a big mouse???LOL
Snowball has again been quite ill today. I have stepped up his medication again. Tonight he does not appear to be so feeble. He is such a polite and sweet natured cat that when he throws up he usually does it on ceramic tile floor or an area rug. Really!!
It has been in the low to mid 60's here this week so more stuff could be done outside so not so much to do in the spring. We will not complain for November. The deer hunters are not going to be real glad if no snow appears!!

Whenever I see complicated and recursive patterns of Persian rugs, I automatically remember the fractal and fractal arts. I think Persian rugs are one of the most ancient forms of fractal arts.

Manhattan Scales
Some skyscrapers at the southern tip of Manhattan shot on a ride to Liberty Island.
Not really Manhattan but taken from the Brooklyn side. The inspiration for this shot comes from two places... This composition was made iconic in the movie "Once Upon a Time in America". The B&W style of it is from the "Sin City" comics.
I like this photo so much I am going to print and hang it in my home.

Day 1: Downtown Seattle
So we haven't started the road trip yet, but we've kicked off our trip in good ol' Seattle. I lived here in '80-'83; a lot of things have changed, some things haven't changed a bit.
We met my wonderful Flickr friend {machel spence} and her family (beautiful India, too!), which was a blast. Did a lot of geek talk; talked about our kids' education; Machel gave us a couple of her *spectacular* mushroom pictures, and Shingo got a butterfly on a mount!! We were sorry we couldn't spend more time together, but Machel promised to take me to Mt. Rainier the next time we visit. Cool. We just need to make that like next month :-D
Climbed the Space Needle for the first time in like 30 years. And what do you do when you climb high places? TILT SHIFT, BABY.

Vintage Star Medallion Wall Quilt (Around Town)
I designed this vintage-style medallion quilt to hang on a wall in my living room. The colors were pulled from the chair upholstery and a braided rug in the room. Approx. 52" square. Quilted with a traditional clamshell design. Finished on Feb. 14th 2009.
NOTE: This quilt was published in the March/April 2012 issue of Quiltmaker magazine, renamed as "Around Town". I sent the pattern in on a whim and was very excited to have it chosen for publication!

THIS Fabulous HAND KNITTED RECYCLE RAG RUG is created by me. Wonderfully colourful, durable and washable, they make great floor coverings for the kitchen, bathroom or living areas, or will add life to even the darkest room as a wall hanging.)))))))))))
Rag rugs, are a relatively new type of durry on the market. Probably the creation of a thrifty householder, they were originally made from scraps of old apparel, using stout cotton thread as the 'warp'. Cotton still forms the warp, but the 'scraps' used for the weft in these durries are recycled sheets.
I had some flat sheets that never had used that I have bought the set of sheets. So, I started cutting them and knitted this gorgeous Cottage Summer Rag rug.
This hand knitted rug will add chic to any space. It would be perfect in a bathroom, kitchen, porch or even for your pet!
Great for a gift as well.
Measurements:
30" by 31".
Care Instruction:
Machine wash in cold water and lay flat it to dry. Please do not iron.
