It would seem that the Bugatti Veyron has another challenger nipping at its tracks. Well, not exactly in its tracks, because this time, the challenger won. Guinness has officially verified that Shelby Supercars’ Ultimate Aero was able to produce an average run of 256.19 miles per hour on a remote road in Washington, toppling the unofficial record of Bugatti that is worth 253.52 miles per hour. The driver of the record-breaking car is Chuck Bigelow (yes, that’s really the name) and he happens to be 71 years old. Who says only the young gets to have all the fun? Now, let’s just wait and see if Bugatti Veyron would take on this new challenge (This writer certainly hopes so). |

Holy.Shit. I dont usually do movie reviews but I figured I had to for this one. I saw the first screening here in Saratoga Springs at the matinée showing at 12:20. It was the first time Ive gone to the movies by myself. Kind of weird but it was actually pretty cool and the people that were there together were in the minority actually. Plus I got the best seat in the house - the seat with no rows in front of it in the middle of the theater. So no tall asshole could sit in front of me. Anyway, to the movie. Wow. I saw someone on the imdb board compare this to a roller coaster and it is kind of like that. Maybe its just the feeling you have after the movie is done, I dont know. But either way its definitely a ride. Its one of those movies were everyone leaves the theater and no one talks. Its kind of spooky. Like the found footage you just saw was real and you just watched it and now you have to think about it. They did a good jobs cloverfield review the cloverfield review of this movie. Even though they released a lot of viral video clips and everything, you still have to see the movie. Its a totally different experience than what I thought it was going to be. I had this picture in my mind of like a Godzilla type creature and that kind of movie but its not really like that at all. I dont know if I can explain it, but theres more breadth to the movie than I previously thought. Theres just a lot more there than I expected. I believe I was right when I made my first post about Cloverfield and how it was different than most Hollywood movies. Well duh, I think anyone can see that. But until youve seen the whole cloverfield review you dont realize the real differences. First off, no big name actors. Well at least they arent, YET. But that really helps keep you focused on the story and the rather than the actors. Which is very important in a movie like this. Second, the destruction of Manhattan. Weve seen dozens of times, not to mention in real life (FUCKHEADS!), but for some reason we keep going back for more. Why? I dont know. It has something to do with conflict. Everyone knows Manhattan, its a symbol of America, love it or hate it. So instantly your in the film with the characters. Ive been there! Now theres a monster destroying it and it sucks you in right away. Why cant we destroy Los Angeles next time or something&how do they always get the good end of the deal? Maybe because you could just shine a huge light on LA and everyone would melt. But anyway, the destruction of Manhattan in this movie is probably the best Ive seen. Never mind that its done by whose impervious to everything our military can throw at it. You do get a good view of the monster so dont worry. Plus Im sure you can see it on the Net by now anyway. But yea the rampage through Manhattan is definitely worth seeing alone. There are parts of the movie that infuriate you when theyre near the monster cloverfield review you dont get to see it because Hud, the cameraman, is filming stupid shit. But it does lend a sense of realism to movie. If I were in that situation I dont think I would be filming the fucking monster either. One shot would be good enough for me. Of course, I wouldnt still in the middle of Manhattan, but anyway& The monster itself is dynamo as well. None of the concept art online from prior advance screenings was truly right, but they did a good job. I mean Im sure its hard to draw something youve never seen. You can tell ten different people the same description and easily get ten way different drawings. I think actually if you compiled all the drawings and took pieces from them you might actually be pretty close. I thought we were going to see more of the little critters than we do, but they have to be scarier than the big one. The big one cant get to certain places, the littles ones can. Theyre nasty too and the first two times you see them are pretty cool. You almost know theyre gonna be there the second time but its still well done. The movie is very tense, obviously, but there are some laughs and of course, even a love story. What monster movie doesnt have a love story in it? cloverfield review Cloverfield had to sink that low. Haha, just kidding. But anyway, there are even tearjerker moments in there if you are so inclined. All in all I think and feel this movie has everything you need for a good movie, and it delivers. So go see it with an open mind, if possible, and just enjoy it. But you really should go see it on the big screen, I think especially with a movie like this it makes it more worth while. Your little 202 isnt going to do the trick. So unless your independently wealthy and have your own movie theater in your house, try to get to the early showing to avoids all the idiots that populate movie theaters during the evening hours. Or go to the late show. But just go, and see it. I cant say you wont be disappointed, but I sure wasnt. And yes, Rob should have left early& |

DHHL is currently the only entity building affordable housing in this state.Hence why ill advised legislation imposing kgmb zoning on DHHL land should be rejected. I allege that they operate as a political committee and are therefore subject to FEC rules. I dlisted.com thought of this complaint during dlisted.com Cindy Sheehan debacle over at Daily dlisted.com where Cindy pledged to run as an independent against Nancy Pelosi, and the Daily Kos basically turned on her. While some conservatives took great delight dlisted.com this, I really didnt care because its politics as usual. The right has thrown their fair share of people under the bus for not drinking the Kool-aid too. However, the statement that the DailyKos was about electing Democrats stuck with me. I always assumed it was a standard left-wing group blog spouting the latest and greatest in left-wing diatribe. However, the statement that the blog exists to get Democrats elected is repeated in various places around the site, including statements by Kos himself. Federal Election Commission rules apply for organizations that spend or contribute an equivalent of $1,000 per year in trying to influence elections for federal office. DailyKos is owned by Kos Media, a company, which makes it fit the definition of an organization. It surely spends at least $1,000 per year in hosting and based on what they charge (and get) for advertising, their support of candidates is certainly worth over $1,000 per year. Lastly, their self-identified purpose is to influence elections in the Democrats favor. They fit the criteria. Second in a series. This is from a paper I presented. This segment deals with an analysis of a study of the formation of a cultural identity in the text book covers found in the US in the 18th and 19th century. The second article analyzed wished to examine the use of visual metaphor in the front covers in popular textbooks published in the United States in the late 18th and early to mid 19th century. In this study (Provenzo, 1984) the argument posed is that by use of traditional and symbolic metaphors a distinct patriotic iconography emerged in the United States. In declaring independence from England, it was important for the United States had also declared the new republic of England’s social traditions and the need was to find a replacement for the new republic. Typically found on the textbooks from this era are symbols from the ancient world, typically found in the ancient Roman Republic. Ultimately, the new republic symbols would become identifiable with the new republic being formed. The author’s asserts, a patriotic iconography or symbolism emerged, drawing upon the collective history of the nation. In early editions of textbooks used in the United States images of the Founding Fathers are seen. However, by the end of the 18th century the figure of Minerva or Athena is seen acting as a guide for young children. It was a common practice in England to put the ruling monarch on the cover of children’s texts, yet after only a short period publishers had rejected this practice in America. The use of these characters from antiquity is not unusual, and emerged consistently. As time progressed, the image of Minerva went through slight changes. Light is seen as coming from her head, she holds a staff, and other symbols from antiquity appear. Interestingly, winter classic is the Roman equivalent of Athena, the safeguard of the new republic so long as her image remained within the walls of the city. The symbolic parallel is clear, and was over a period of time was brought to the focus of the new nation’s children daily. In later editions of texts the Roman Goddess of Liberty is jay r. grodner The suggestion of the study is that educational materials reflect an emergence and are part of the evolution of a culture. It is clear that development of a cultural identification with ancient Rome was paramount in the formation of a national identity for the United States, and the educational system was at the front and center of this formation of a collective sense of historical identity.
