Rod or No Rod

Rod or No Rod

Rod or No Rod? The age old 1911 debate! In my personal experience, and many years shooting 1911’s in both leisure and competition style shooting , I find that Guide Rods are often more of a selling point, than an actual benefit to the firearm. First of all they make taking the gun down a lot more troublesome. And you need a bushing wrench to do so. While that is great for your full on Comp Gun. It is not a great item for a service pistol that may need to be taken down and cleaned while in the field. And some Guide rods even need a Allen wrench to take down. The guide rod on the “TRP” ( top pistol ) Is a 2 piece design, and requires a wrench to disassemble.

Some say that a guide rod will greatly improve accuracy, I don’t find this true at all. Most modern made CNC made 1911’s shoot way better than any human can reproduce while shooting off hand.

Some Say Guide Rods make your 1911 more reliable. I don’t find that true at all. Matter of fact I find that most 1911 pistols are reliable with or without guide rods. Reliability issues are more Likely an issue with a weak extractor or bad magazine.

Just my 2 cents on the subject…….. feel free to chime in!

This grove of 7 trees borders our yard and is in front of the shed. I have marked out with orange flags the boundaries and will plant shade shrubs and plants inside the border.

So far I have the two Azaleas here that were already there. A fern and a Columbine I moved from my old house. A Hellebore, fern and Woodland Poppy that a neighbor gave me.

Usually Fritz the gnome likes to keep me company when I'm working in the yard but you can see here that he is trying to sneak out of the picture!

Blinded Sphinx Paonias excaecatus

Blinded Sphinx Paonias excaecatus

Family: Hawk Moths Sphingidae

Identification: Very common in Ontario. Forewing has many shades of brown with a strongly scalloped outer margin. White fringe may be visible on the inside edge of scallops. Front wing base has a series of dark wavy lines (nearer the head). Lower hindwing has a pinkish tint with a blue eyespot, without a black spot within the blue, thus the ‘iris’ is missing and the moth is blind. Abdomen has a dark longitudinal line through the center.

Similar Species: The Lettered Sphinx Deidamia inscripta has much more white on wings.
The One-eyed Sphinx Smerinthus cerisyi has wavy wing tips, not scallops. Lines at wing base are light, not dark.

Size: Wingspan 55 to 95 mm.

Habitat: Fields, woodlands, and forests.

Food: Adults do not feed. Larva eat American hornbeam, apple, basswood, beech, birch, cherry, chestnut, elm, hawthorn, hop hornbeam, oak, poplar, rose, serviceberry, Spiraea, willow, and many others.

Flight Time: Mostly June to July.

Life Cycle: One generation per year. Larva to 75 mm. Bright green with granulated integument, some forms with red spots. Over-winters in cocoon stage.

Comments: Listed at Ojibway Prairies in Essex County.

Came to lights Jul 17, 2011 in S. W. Ontario, Canada.

The 2009 Import and Export Market for Textile Curtains, Drapes, Interior Blinds, Roller Shades, and Bed Valences in Thailand

The 2009 Import and Export Market for Textile Curtains, Drapes, Interior Blinds, Roller Shades, and Bed Valences in Thailand

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on textile curtains, drapes, interior blinds, roller shades, and bed valences in Thailand face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying textile curtains, drapes, interior blinds, roller shades, and bed valences to Thailand? How important is Thailand compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of textile curtains, drapes, interior blinds, roller shades, and bed valences vary from one country of origin to another in Thailand? On the supply side, Thailand also exports textile curtains, drapes, interior blinds, roller shades, and bed valences. Which countries receive the most exports from Thailand? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for textile curtains, drapes, interior blinds, roller shades, and bed valences in Thailand. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for textile curtains, drapes, interior blinds, roller shades, and bed valences for those countries serving Thailand via exports, or supplying from Thailand via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Thailand fits into the world market for imported and exported textile curtains, drapes, interior blinds, roller shades, and bed valences. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Thailand in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Thailand is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Thailand compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

Lothian's NEW digital LED front screens

Lothian's NEW digital LED front screens

Another glimpse of Wright Gemini B9, fleet number 846 this time on Service 16 heading to Silverknowes. Lothian driver Christopher Cuthill observed that there is a new and very distinctive advantage to these screens - the intermediate screen here shows Tollcross, Princes Street and Leith Walk which is what you would expect....except that on the return journey it will show Leith Walk, Princes Street and Tollcross, all at the touch of a button - now that is progress is it not?

There has been much talk in recent years as to what would happen if Lothian converted their screens to LED. In the Spring of 2010 fourteen state-of-the-art Airlink buses with a branding Blue Sky Thinking arrived in Edinburgh at a cost of ?250,000 per bus. A rear digital, LED screen appeared and not too much was made of this as the same thing had happened to 846 on her rear end in July 2009. Quite suddenly the talk started and many became worried that LB was about to follow other companies in introducing full frontal electronic screens.

I like the fact that Lothian have attempted to replicate the type-face and lay-out of the roller blind screens and to me it's the best example of a bus LED screen I've seen. Good in that colour too. Everyone has their likes and dislikes but modifications can be made to every detail on that screen in seconds, in letter size, shape and colour. That may well prove to be the winning ingredient and LB will be able to adapt the screen to take in public opinion in time.

Magnifying Glass Pendant with Kashgar Garnet

Magnifying Glass Pendant with Kashgar Garnet

Length: approximately 32" (can be resized up or down)

Length of full pendant: 5"

Diameter of magnifying glass: 2"

This necklace is made up of kashgar garnet beads, sterling silver beads, silver-plated bead caps, and a silvertone magnifying glass pendant. It is finished off by a sterling silver toggle clasp.

Kashgar garnet was discovered in Kashgar, China, a city on the westernmost tip of China, near Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan. Although very little information is available on this incredibly beautiful stone, I am assuming, since it is called garnet, it is probably the rough stone at the outer veins of a garnet mine.

This necklace has a wonderfully vintage look and feel to it, and is perfect for those people who don't need (or want to carry) reading glasses, but need a little extra help every so often. You can casually use it in a restaurant to help you read the menu. It is great to use when antiquing, as you can get a closer inspection of a product to check for dings and flaws that could seriously affect the value. Because of its length, it can also be worn with any neckline. It is a very versatile and useful necklace. A perfect marriage of form and function.

Vito B Stuck Shutter release

Vito B Stuck Shutter release

I had to pull my Vito B apart again due to a stuck shutter, I ve had a few enquiries so I've posted pics of the suspected problem.

First step is winding the spool spiggot on the back of the camera. It should have tension and should be wound two clicks. If it loose and rolls very easily with only the frame numbers clicking over, you have a stuck shutter release lever.

Pop open the Vito B by unscrewing the flat screw on the accessory shoe and one screw in the film canister holder.

This photo is the normal position the shutter release lever in the "stopped position". This prevents the shutter being depressed again leading to a double exposed shot.

Lightmeter

Lightmeter

The earliest type of light meter called Leningrad is an analog amateur soviet lightmeter. It has a reflex viewfinder in the middle of the dial. It allows the use of aperatures from 1.4 to 45 and shutter speeds from one two thousandth of a second to 2 minutes. A sliding white filter is provided for use as an incident light meter.

A friend of mine gave it to me because he didn't want to use anymore. Frankly it is not something you will work with. But I think it really works. Nowadays the digital cameras failed with evaluating and understanding the correct exposure. Sometimes when I see it in my bag, I use it.

A text, in english, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

The fountain at the junction of three roads (tre vie) marks the terminal point of the "modern" Acqua Vergine, the revivified Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome. In 19 BC, supposedly with the help of a virgin, Roman technicians located a source of pure water some 13 km (8 miles) from the city. (This scene is presented on the present fountain's facade.) However, the eventual indirect route of the aqueduct made its length some 22 km (14 miles). This Aqua Virgo led the water into the Baths of Agrippa. It served Rome for more than four hundred years. The coup de grace for the urban life of late classical Rome came when the Goth besiegers in 537/38 broke the aqueducts. Medieval Romans were reduced to drawing water from polluted wells and the Tiber River, which was also used as a sewer.
The Roman custom of building a handsome fountain at the endpoint of an aqueduct that brought water to Rome was revived in the 15th century, with the Renaissance. In 1453, Pope Nicholas V finished mending the Acqua Vergine aqueduct and built a simple basin, designed by the humanist architect Leon Battista Alberti, to herald the water's arrival.
In 1629 Pope Urban VIII, finding the earlier fountain insufficiently dramatic, asked Bernini to sketch possible renovations, but when the Pope died, the project was abandoned. Bernini's lasting contribution was to resite the fountain from the other side of the square to face the Quirinal Palace (so the Pope could look down and enjoy it). Though Bernini's project was torn down for Salvi's fountain, there are many Bernini touches in the fountain as it was built. An early, striking and influential model by Pietro da Cortona, preserved in the Albertina, Vienna, also exists, as do various early 18th century sketches, most unsigned, as well as a project attributed to Nicola Michetti, one attributed to Ferdinando Fuga and a French design by Edme Bouchardon.

Premium Cream Blackout Window Roller Shades, 26 x 72, Free Shipping

Product Description Our beautiful fabric roller shades join function and fashion. Each shade comes standard with a continuous cord loop to make opening and closing simpler, and adds an elegant touch. Keep the harsh rays of the sun outside and enjoy a restful night sleep with our blackout shades, or the privacy offered by our non-blackout roller shades. Moreover, save a few dollars on your summer cooling bills by keeping the warming sunlight outside. Roller Shades can be mounted on either the inside or outside of your window; however, we highly recommend ordering outside mounts since the fabric is generally about 1 3/8" less wide than the width of the mounting. - For an outside mount we recommend ordering a size that is 3" to 5" larger in width than your window opening to minimize light gaps. - For an inside mount, you must order an exact size. For instance, order a 36" shade only of the window opening at the top of your window is 36". In addition, since the width of the fabric is about 1 3/8" less than the window, please be aware that the fabric will come approximately 34 5/8" (from a 36" purchase) creating a potential light gap.

Morning glory is a common name for over 1,000 species of flowering plants in the family Convolvulaceae, whose current taxonomy and systematics is in flux. Morning glory species belong to many genera, some of which are:
•Calystegia
•Convolvulus
•Ipomoea
•Merremia
•Rivea
•Astripomoea
•Operculina
•Stictocardia
•Argyreia
•Lepistemon

Habit
Most morning glory flowers curl up and close during the warm parts of the day, and are fully open in the morning, thus their name. On a cloudy day, the flower may last until night. The flowers usually start to fade a couple of hours before the petals start showing visible curling. They prefer full sun throughout the day and mesic soils. Some morning glories, such as Ipomoea muricata, are night blooming flowers.
In some places such as Australian bushland, some species of morning glories (bindweed) develop thick roots and tend to grow in dense thickets. They can quickly spread by way of long creeping stems. By crowding out, blanketing and smothering other plants, morning glory has turned into a serious invasive weed problem.
Cultivation
In cultivation, most are treated as perennial plants in frost-free areas and as annual plants in colder climates, but some species tolerate winter cold. There are some species which are strictly annual (eg. I. nil), producing many seeds, and some perennial species (eg. I. indica) which are propagated by cuttings. Some moonflowers, which flower at night, are also in the morning glory family.
Because of their fast growth, twining habit, attractive flowers, and tolerance for poor, dry soils, some morning glories are excellent vines for creating summer shade on building walls when trellised, thus keeping the building cooler and reducing heating and cooling costs.
Popular varieties in contemporary western cultivation include 'Sunspots', 'Heavenly Blue', the moonflower, the cypress vine, and the cardinal climber. The cypress vine is a hybrid, with the cardinal climber as one parent.
History
Ipomoea purpurea in Loganville, Georgia
Morning glory was first known in China for its medicinal uses, due to the laxative properties of its seeds.
It was introduced to the Japanese in the 9th century, and they were first to cultivate it as an ornament. A rare brownish-coloured variant known as Danjuro is very popular. During the Edo Period, it became a very popular ornamental flower.
Ancient Mesoamerican civilizations used the morning glory species Ipomoea alba to convert the latex from the Castilla elastica tree[citation needed] and also the guayule plant to produce bouncing rubber balls[citation needed]. The sulfur in the morning glory's juice served to vulcanize the rubber, a process pre-dating Charles Goodyear's discovery by at least 3,000 years.[1] Aztec priests in Mexico were also known to use the plant's hallucinogenic properties. (see Rivea corymbosa).
In popular culture
•The morning glory represents "love in vain" for whatever outside circumstances according to the Victorian "Language of Flowers", which attributed various properties and sentiments to flowers so that people could communicate their feelings by what flowers were given as gifts, such as those by a suitor to their loved one.
•"(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" is the title of British rock band Oasis's second album, released in October 1995.
•The line "What's the story, morning glory?" is the opening to "The Telephone Hour" from the musical Bye Bye Birdie.
•Wake Up Honey, a song from the 2008 album Azn Pride -This Iz the Japanese Kabuki Rock- by Miyavi, whose chorus uses the flower metaphorically in reference to the way the flower blooms early in the morning; is an early riser.
•On the TV series Bewitched Samantha and Darrin live at 1164 Morning Glory Circle.
•A line in the song Carolina in the Morning (notably sung by Daffy Duck in Bob Clampett's cartoon Book Revue) mentions morning glories.
Culinary uses
Ipomoea aquatica, known as water spinach, water morning-glory, water convolvulus, Ong-Choy, Kang-kung, or swamp cabbage, is popularly used as a green vegetable especially in East and Southeast Asian cuisines. In the USA it is a Federal Noxious Weed, and technically it's illegal to grow, import, possess, or sell. See: USDA weed factsheet. As of 2005, the state of Texas has acknowledged that water spinach is a highly prized vegetable in many cultures and has allowed water spinach to be grown for personal consumption. This is in part because water spinach is known to have been grown in Texas for more than fifteen years and has not yet escaped cultivation.[2] The fact that it goes by so many names means that it easily slips through import inspections, and it is often avail

I had no intention of shooting katydids again, but today this one got into the house somehow and what was I to do, ignore it?
Clinging head-down on the big vertical blinds of our sliding glass patio door, I shot it in the usual way--handheld Sony F1000 autoflash connected to my camera by a short cable, small aperture, fast shutter.
(F7.1--1/640--iso100--there's a sunny day outside behind it, but my choice of settings effectively turned it black).

Ona to Seal Rock beaches

Ona to Seal Rock beaches

Just south of Newport, Oregon on our way to Florence, Oregon (where we "stealth camped"), was a series of impressive rock formation like Seal Rock and nice gentle long sandy beaches. We stopped at many just to sample the best that each had to offer.

Monday 5 October 2009
We arrived in Newport Oregon, Monday evening in time to secure a good camping spot at the Oregon State Park South Beach campground (hot showers and right on the beach). We organized our camp which didn’t take long since our bed was already made up in the back of our 1994 Toyota 4 X 4 pickup truck with a cab high canopy (screen windows & reading lights).

Then we grabbed the cameras and hiked to the beach to take a few photos as the sun dropped below the horizon over the Pacific Ocean.

Tuesday 6 October 2009
We broke camp and drove to the Oregon’s tallest lighthouse at Yaquina Head, north of Newport. We rated this visit as one of the highlights of our entire road trip. The lighthouse was built in 1873 and was interesting to visit. The staff there gave a nice tour and provided us with interesting facts and stories about the lighthouse. We arrived early and the beach just south of the lighthouse was not crowded and had a large gathering of harbor seals, pelicans, cormorants and other sea birds. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

After the Yaquina Head lighthouse visit we made our way to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. We were at first disappointed because the otter and aviary exhibits were both closed, but once inside the many excellent aquarium exhibits, we enjoyed our stay. The weather was perfect the entire day.

Leaving Newport, we headed south on highway 101 and made frequent stops and took short beach hikes all down the coast to Florence. Ona Beach, Seal Rock, and an enjoyable visit to the beach and then the lighthouse at Heceta Head.

We camped near Florence and watched the sun go down over the Pacific once more this time after a hike to the end of the North Jetty. Strong winds came up in the evening.

Trying to get attention

Trying to get attention

When we arrived early morning to the Yaquina Head lighthouse, we decided to hike down along the beach before visiting the lighthouse. The pelicans were graceful in flight and comical as they vied for prime perches on the rock islands along the coast. They looked absolutely ridiculous trying to preen and spiff up. Let's face it, homely is homely. Still they tried.

Below the high tide mussel beds, the harbor seals consisted of two groups. Adults soaking up the sun with their tail ends and snouts high in the air. Adults in the vertical treading water position and swiveling about to see everything that was going on about them. And then, last but not least (and the most entertainin), were the harbor seal "teenagers" purposely splashing, and doing everything possible to try to get the attention of the adults trying to relax on a rock. They were persistent!

We'll be finding out on Monday whether we're having a boy or girl. I'm so excited! I happen to have a 99% sure feeling it's a boy, however ... as does most everyone who has ventured their opinion/feeling. A. is really hoping for a baby sister. I think she's most concerned with the fact that if we have a boy nobody will get to wear all her cute baby clothes (she is very upset that her beloved jellies may have to be given away if it's a boy). And if it's a boy he's going to be entering a totally girl's world here at the house ... born into tea parties, princess dances, a pink and green bedroom, a pink playroom complete with flower canopy and pink Pottery Barn play kitchen ... the works. :)

These were A's first little "real shoes" ... of course, she was barefoot most of her first couple years and still is any time she can swing it. The circus toile fabric is one of A's baby blankets.

We'll be happy and blessed, boy or girl. A girl will be familiar ... and a boy will be a whole new adventure for us all. :)

Have a happy Saturday everyone!!

It has also been found that gardening is an enjoyable task, and many doctors are even prescribing it to their patients for stress relief. Looking at the beautiful plants growing and their fruits emerging and developing has definite therapeutic effects. Thus, more and more people are turning to gardening as a pastime.

Phoebe Scribe - Conor's new girl (6 2 9)

Phoebe Scribe - Conor's new girl (6 2 9)

Conor Nitely looks up, noticing Guin then. Cheeks go red like a fire engine. He turns quickly to Phoebe, rolling the clay fast in his hands as he speaks a little too loudly now. "SO...ERRR...YOU KNOW TINKERBELL?"

Phoebe Scribe tucked her ruler back into the side pocket of her backpack and trailed her gaze around the others' clay doors, before crumpling hers up and starting to read the new word. She mouths it out, and sets about making the shape of a bottle of beer. She rolls it on the ground, and begins shaping a column of clay. Her face turns bright red when Conor calls her tinkerbell. She swallowed hard. "Uh, I's not tinkerbell. Audr-- Phoebe."

Conor Nitely shakes his head, clay still rolling /fast/ between those hands. It's unrecognizable as a bottle really, more like a sad worm. "NO TINKERBELL..." Cheeks go three shades deeper when he realizes he's shouting. Three deep breaths then, quieter as he continues. "Tinkerbell has a chain. Says Boo. Saw you on the bridge." He looks down at the misshappen lump in his hand, smashing it back together before he continues. Nervous eyes flick to the crowd as he leans in to whisper to the girl.

Phoebe Scribe started shaping her bottle with her hands, and grew more frustrated when it wouldn't shape the way she wants. She heard Conor's whisper and blinked, mouthing an "o" when she turned to look at him, promptly shutting up and furiously working on her bottle.

Conor Nitely scowled, mostly at himself. He'd done quite well tonight with the new girl, yelling at her then seeming to make her upset. He concentrated on his clay for awhile, the lump still not resembling any type of bottle. Not from lack of trying though. A sigh of relief at the next word. This one /had/ to be easier.

Conor Nitely nodded slowly, finger raising to his own lips to mimic the gesture. "Conor doesn't tell," he whispered back, molding the first tube for his flashlight. Unruly hair flopped as he shook his head, remembering to correct himself. "/I/ don't tell. And I'm Conor. See-Oh-En-Oh-Are."

Phoebe Scribe nodded and started to roll a second piece for her flashlight, making a little lump that she meant to resemble a button. "Tinkerbell's nice to me." She held the flashlight with thwo hands, so it wouldn't flop or break apart. "Nice to meetcha Conor."

Conor Nitely looked a little surprised at that, not sure they were still talking about the same person. "She's nice to me too..." he started hesistantly. "Didn't shoot me yet." Sage nod then, hands absently rolling a second lump for the head of his flashlight. "Did you just move here? 'Cause I haven't seen you before. Just at the bridge. But I /wasn't/ running away. Just...walking fast."

Phoebe Scribe smirked a little when she looked up at him. "I dun think she shoots kids." She squished her flashlight flat and pounded on it with her fist. "Um, well..." She hemmed and hawed before leaning in to murmur. "Kinda. It's complicated. Live with m'daddeh now. Used ta live with my grandpere." Her eyes lower to the clay and she pounds on it a little harder.

Conor Nitely rolls the word around in his mouth, tripping on it for a moment as he repeated, "Grandpere." He leans back into her to whisper back. "Good you have a daddy to live with right? Is he nice?" A quick plea to Sister D, brow creasing as he wonders if she's about to take the clay away. "Can I take some home...err back with me Sister? I need to make something that's not a door or flashlight or bottle then get the moisture out."

Phoebe Scribe looked back at the nun and beamed a smile briefly before she shrugged at Conor. "He's alright, but ain't never home. Tinkerbell says he's an asshole though." She whispered the swear word, cringing as it left her lips. "WHat 'bout you?"

Conor Nitely shrugged, smirking only slightly at the swear. A vague answer at best. "Sometimes I stay in the barracks and sometimes I stay in the Nook and Cranberry. Has a balcony!" He broke into a full grin at Sister D's words, small hands reaching out quickly to snag two chunks of clay. The pink piece he tried to palm, hiding it as best he could as he shaped it into a ball. The white sat untouched for a moment. "Sometimes not home is good though? If he's...you know...an..." he hesitated at repeating the word, eyes flicking to Guin in a -not around her- look.

Phoebe Scribe scooted forward to grab a sheet of paper and a few colors, picking red and green like she typically carried around in her bag. She blew air from between her lips, and nodded to Conor. "Not home is good. What's nook and cranberry?" Her fingers curl around a green crayon and she brings it to the paper.

Conor Nitely watched her go for the paper, suddenly realizing clay time was over. He'd shove both chunks into his bag quickly, re

Trees

Trees

Once upon a time there was a smug little town perched at the edge of a deep blue ocean. All around it, trees grew. Great twisting tentacled trees. Trees with limbs like undulating snakes, like curls of smoke turned miraculously solid. The trees breathed in and out, cleaning the air continuously; their fallen leaves and acorns fed the earth around their roots, creating food and habitat for all manner of other critters. Their branches were anointed with nests; their summer shade cooled the meadow, preserving moisture through the long brown rainless summers.

The trees harmed no one. At least not on purpose. Of course there were “accidents” when people felled them; maimings, fatalities, losses of human limbs; that was to be expected. But most of the time the trees, as far as anyone in the town knew, pretty much just stood there, swaying in the breeze, changing with the seasons; anonymous, dispensable, to be hacked away without a thought when the thing called Progress demanded it.

Then one day a fairy (do you think they called them fairies because they so often set things right, or restored an order of fairness?). Anyway, one day a fairy happened by and was surprised by what she saw. She’d last visited the shore a few hundred years earlier (a short blip in fairy time) and seen a very different place.

The people who lived there hundreds of years ago led a rich and satisfying life. The sea and surrounding woods and meadows provided a diverse and nearly endless food supply. The people ate well; had plenty for the winters; lived in comfort… and had the luxury of dedicating time to art, to craft, to ceremony, song and feast. They had their hardships. Their life was not idyllic. But they cherished and respected the earth. And the trees.

The new town was different. The people there saw the trees (if indeed they noticed them at all) as barriers, as things to be removed and gotten past. They slaughtered the trees to build their houses, heat their houses, cook their food. They slaughtered more to grow crops, to build roads and shopping malls. The trees were not entirely resigned (remember those “accidents”). But they were rooted; that was the only thing that truly held them back. And so the fairy, hoping to return the place to its earlier balance, gave the trees the power of movement; made their roots fast feet; encouraged them to bring the place back to what it had been.

The trees went forward without hesitation. They had dreamed of this day for a very long time. Many had been planning it in detail for centuries. They decided to wait till late in the night when most of the town would be sleeping or distracted.

As darkness fell, they began a slow shuffle. Earth erupted as first one, then 10, then a hundred others ripped their deep thick heavy roots from the ground… setting off a string of low successive rumbles like a long roll of thunder. A soft cloud of dust rose up around the town’s outskirts as the trees moved in. They barricaded roads. Stopped traffic. And, after all those countless years of practising with only air, their long twisting talons made solid contact; pried the roofs off houses; lashed down the power lines and watched, amused as the people jerked and fried with their own innovation coursing through them. The trees systematically ripped up the town, destroyed the people’s built environment. They worked through the night until nothing artificial stood, and all the people had been killed or had fled.

By morning the trees were exhausted. Movement was new to them and they had had a lot of it. They surveyed what was left of the town and they were well and truly pleased. They lashed long branches across each other’s backs in celebration of their victory. And then.

And then one tree saw something shiny, flickering in the dust. It was small and metallic with a strange glass front that kept changing colours, patterns, frequencies of light and dark. The tree picked it up and showed it to a few of the others. They didn’t understand why or how, but the bright shiny flickering glass held their attention. Soon more trees gathered round. And they touched the object, and it made sounds. And it continued making sounds, and somehow the sounds and the flashing glassy light seemed connected – and the trees found it even more compelling.

These were all park trees. They had lived in the closest thing to wilderness there was around the town. Few of their immediate family had been slaughtered, and so they were less vigilantly anti-people than their more urban counterparts. They talked among themselves and decided on two things.

1. They would take the shiny object back to the park to amuse them. Now that they had tasted freedom, they were less keen about standing all day and night in silence with nothing to watch or listen to but weather, insects, birds and other plants.

2. On their way back, they would check the ruins of the town for any more shiny objects. If t

Think and Grow Rich

A must for anyone wanting to improve their lives and their positive thinking. There have been more millionaires and indeed, billionaires, who have made their fortunes as a result of reading this success classic than any other book every printed. NAPOLEON HILLS's "Think and Grow Rich" is the authors most famous work. This is the COMPLETE Reference Book. A true masterpiece with the fundamentals of the Success philosophy. *** ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Napoleon Hill was an American author who was one of the earliest producers of the modern genre of personal-success literature. His most famous work, Think and Grow Rich, is one of the best-selling books of all time. Hill's works examined the power of personal beliefs, and the role they play in personal success. "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve" is one of Hill's hallmark expressions. How achievement actually occurs, and a formula for it that puts success in reach for the average person, were the focal points of Hill's books.
