Car boot sale
This is a popular institution in the Forest of Dean, held in a field just outside Coleford every Sunday morning through the year and attracting hundreds of stalls and probably thousands of customers whose cars spread out across the rest of the field. It's 20p to go in and Lin and my mother-in-law delight in it. Here's Lin bargaining over a carpet which she got for ?4.00, and later a 'lovely Turkish rug' for ?3. The contents of a car boot sale, were some catastrophe like the eruption of Vesuvius at Pompeii to descend upon the field leaving everything untouched beneath a layer of ash, would suggest many things about our culture - containing videos, DVDs, popular books, a multitude of DIY tools, enormous numbers of toys, chine wear, electrical goods, old agricultural tools, vegetables, plants, pictures, kitchenware, TV's, video players, fridges, washers, curtains, blankets, chairs, sporting goods - but no alcohol, cigarettes or live animals or firearms. Every now and then you come across delightful finds - a piece of unidentified silver, beautifully illustrated book from the 1920 or earlier, a very nice old carpet.
Grandma and Grandpa's old house. My mother grew up here. Now for sale.
When this house was built in the 50s Grandma selected hardwood floors which were subsequently installed but just before they moved in Grandma changed her mind and requested wool carpeting, which was laid over the floor. The next owners chose to keep the floors carpeted as well. So here you can kinda see, through the window, 50 year old hardwood floors that have never been walked on save for the guy who came in and ripped up the carpet before the house went back up for sale last year. They're all glowy. Pretty sweet, huh?

This book helps readers visualize the vast possibilities that exist for this challenging space, and go about the remodeling process in an organized and efficient way. Roger German, a basement remodeling pro, covers every step, from the physically demanding "dirty work" to the rewarding finishing touches. He shows how to deal with a basement's special challenges, such as moisture problems and framing against concrete floors and walls, and gives instructions on pumping water up and out from basement baths and laundry rooms.

I don't want him to go :( [explore #256!]
Tuesday evening: We just got more and more worried about Sacha today because we realized he hadn't pooped since Saturday... and he still seems to hurt so bad.. so we took him to another vet, who quickly explained that there actually was something wrong.... Sacha most likely has a broken pelvis, he needs x-rays etc., and this will probably be a very expensive surgery... we have no idea what we're going to do... but I just don't want to lose him :(
Tuesday morning: Sacha's still in his cage, he seems a little more active now and each time I come in the room I see him get more excited and sniff the air, because he's hoping I'm bringing food. :)
Sunday evening: Still eating, he seems to be a little more active now, and he greets us when we come in the room! For me that is the sweetest sound in the world! Oh yeah and our neighbour gave us more details about what exactly happened, the car actually went over Sacha and by sheer luck he was terrorized enough not to move... I can't believe how lucky we are to still have him with us. And thanks to all of you for bearing with all of my silly questions and worries...
Sunday morning: he's still eating, I also mixed some water with his food and he drank it too. We took off the top of his cage and lifted him out to place him on his litterbox, and he peed (and obviously really NEEDED to!). I'm so happy!!
Update 2: The accident was at 9:45 this morning, and it's 11 PM... and he's still eating. I am so thankful that he's still here with us and I hope he's going to be up and running sometime soon... Thank you so much for all of your support & comforting words everyone. I don't see how I would have lived through this day of Hell without your reassuring messages.
UPDATE: we got him to the vet about half-an-hour after I posted the picture, and the verdict is - nothing seems to be broken, maybe something tiny like a toe, but it's not that bad. He also said that it was too early to see if there was any internal bleeding (I'm so thankful it wasn't too LATE) - so, yeah. We have to keep him in a cozy place all day and see if he seems to deteriorate/stop eating. Then it'll be off to the vet again, for something that I don't even want to think about. :( But so far he ate (vet gave us some food full of vitamins!) and he just stays in his cage. I'm not getting my hopes up but I do hope he's going to survive this! Thank you for all the kind wishes. It is so reassuring.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an old photo of Sacha, but right now he isn't in a very good position to be photographed. He's lying on the carpet in the basement, and just moping around. About an hour ago, he was fighting with a neighbourhood cat & dashed across the street without looking. And, well, there was a car coming, but it's not like Sacha would actually *care*. I don't want to imagine what would have happened if he had dashed half a second earlier. Our neighbours told us that the car was going super fast - thankfully Sacha was going super fast too, so that only his hind leg got hurt. We're not quite sure where it hurts, but at least there's nothing broken; my dad wants to let the swelling start before we bring him to the vet because right now there's just no way to know what hurts. (I'm pretty sure the vet could figure that out, but my dad is, well, slightly stubborn.) I just hope the swelling starts soon because the sooner he's at the vet, the better.
Oh yeah and the car didn't stop, of course. :(
I'm so worried... a few years ago my friends' Cocker Spaniel had to be euthanized after she got her paw run over... well actually, she didn't HAVE to be euthanized, it was their parents' choice. But still. Everyone knows cats are more delicate than dogs, right?
:(
For the life of me, I cannot remember that therapist's last name, but as soon as I do, I've got a thank you note to put in the mail
I brought home a stack of old journals from my parents' basement. They made my carry-on heavier than I ever care for a carry-on to be, but as they chronicle the last five years of my life, I considered the pain in my shoulders worthwhile. Plus, who knows when my sisters might go snooping in the vintage suitcases that hold my things down in all that mess. They read my diaries when we were kids, and I am the first to admit the entries have gotten significantly juicier since I was fourteen and loved __________ (?). Spike, his name was, I believe. Though we rarely spoke.
You know what I love reading? Almost everything. I even love the tiny notebooks wherein I marked every single dollar I spent between September 2003 and May 2005. I don't know why I quit keeping track in May 2005. On the 10th of that month I buy a cookie ($3, obviously I'm still in NY at this time), a chili dog ($2), dinner ($17, doesn't say where), and cat food (a cool $20). The next day I drink wine with Jennifer ($9). A week later I fly to Paris for the first time, and apparently it throws the whole thing off, the rest of the book is just a calendar of therapy appointments and various dates, nary a dollar sign in sight. I started smoking again in Paris that time, too. And then summer came and I moved to Iowa, where living on student loans inspired me to turn a blind eye to expenses, devoting myself rather to the page.
Or something like that. Anyway, I keep journals. I'm in that camp. How's your camp? Do the boys knock on your windows at night?
Today I journaled on an index card I'd shoved into my back pocket so I wouldn't have to carry my regular journal on a hike. On it I wrote things about--well, private things. During my hike, I saw two deer, a young buck and doe. They loved me from afar with their gentle elegance. I saw a fox so much bigger than any fox I've ever seen. I thought it might have been a coyote for a minute, except for that bushy tale. A coyote! Who does she think she is! But earlier there was a scorpion in my closet, I confirmed it with the owners of the house (Oops, we forgot to tell you about the scorpions? Yes, it's a good idea to shake out your shoes...), and so I had cause to wonder, to make room for possibilities, if you will.
Ok, it was some notes about how to be socially and politically involved after the election. I was trying to get through this without talking about Obama. But there it is. Making room for possibilities, if you will.

We Are the Dead…
…short days ago…
One of the dead, Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, MD.
The man.
The life.
His ultimate sacrifice.
The poem as it appeared, anonymously, in Punch, December 08, 1915.
To fill out the bottom corner of a page.
It was expected to be read and forgotten and disappear like most of Punch’s stuff…
Only it didn’t.
It “spoke” to so many… from every walk of life, all who had been touched by his words, and whose lives had already been, forever altered, by war.
So many…… never came back.
We must remember them. And thank them.
By our lives.
By the defense of our freedom and our ally’s freedom. Whenever that call comes.
Right now, Canadians are being called to support Afghanistan, in her quest to maintain her shaky democracy.
Already, seventy-one Canadians have given their lives for Afghanistan… for her to remain free.
Rest in peace, heroes… past and present.
more about… LIEUTENANT-COLONEL JOHN McCRAE, MD
Physician, surgeon, medical author, sketch artist, WW I soldier and unlikely poet.
Even more unlikely– a Canadian.
John was not a peacekeeper.
John is forever remembered NOT for the lives he saved as a doctor and field surgeon, nor for the battles he fought as a Second Boer War and WW I soldier, BUT FOR his reflections on war and on the necessity of maintaining our religious and cultural freedom, in keeping that faith, especially with those who have given their ultimate sacrifice to that very end.
Colonel John McCrae, from a WW I trench wrote, “In Flanders Fields” on a scrap of paper, upon the back of Colonel Cosgrave during a “recess” from the bombings. The inspiration for his sombre and reflective poem came after John attended the burial of a friend, and former student of his, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer.
John didn't like the poem and tossed it out. Another officer however "rescued" it and submitted it to Punch for publication. His poem was published anonymously, on December 8th in 1915, about halfway through the war. "In Flanders Fields" became famous “instantly”, and John's identity was soon discovered.
"Demanding the highest possible standards of service to sick and wounded soldiers, McCrae insisted on living in a tent like his comrades at the front and had to be ordered to the heated huts when the winter badly affected his health. He felt the war intensely, watching its changes reflected daily in the barometer of the many casualties reaching the hospital."
SADLY, John, a life-long asthma sufferer, would succumb to pneumonia while in command of No3 Canadian General Hospital at Boulogne, France only ten months before World War I would end on November 11, 1918.
"He would have broken faith had he lived while so many died."
John was happy with the poem’s success if, "the poem enabled men to see where their duty lay."
C.L.C. Allinson reported that McCrae "most unmilitarily told [me] what he thought of being transferred to the medicals and being pulled away from his "beloved" [artillery] guns. His last words to me were:
'Allinson, all the damn doctors in the world will not win this bloody war: what we need is more and more fighting men.'"

New Techno-Thriller by the International Best-selling author of SILVER & THE LAST ANGEL
As a journalist, Kristy French is never going to win a Pulitzer while she's at The Newcastle Gazette covering bake sales and town fetes. A missing persons report could be about to change all that. As a novelist, Ben Shelton's career's over before it's begun, he's the proverbial one hit wonder. The two of them have never met, but they're about to become the most important people in each other's lives. It isn't love. It's survival.
Johnny Lisker and his friend Alex Slater are having a beer in the local a pub after Alex's longtime girlfriend Beth broke his heart. It should be a quiet night. It isn't. Johnny stabs a man. Suddenly he and Alex are on the run from the law and there's no going back.
Just outside of the village of Westbrooke, disgraced American doctor, Brent Richards, is obsessed with playing the Devil. He has manufactured a strain of virus he calls N.E.S.T., one that effects the bodies' pain threshold as well as its need for nourishment. The side effects include blisters along the mouth, rapid weight loss -- and the insatiable need to feed.
Three people are missing. Murdered.
And the death toll is not about to stop rising.
Small towns are meant to be sleepy. Safe. They are not meant to be meat. Within a single week, Kristy, Ben and Westbrooke's residents have the comfortable safety of their world torn out from under them. People they have known all their lives turn on them and no-one knows what is happening, why, or how to stop it.
There's blood on the streets, and the suffering has only just begun.

Statistics: An Introduction using R
Computer software is an essential tool for many statistical modelling and data analysis techniques, aiding in the implementation of large data sets in order to obtain useful results. R is one of the most powerful and flexible statistical software packages available, and enables the user to apply a wide variety of statistical methods ranging from simple regression to generalized linear modelling. Statistics: An Introduction using R is a clear and concise introductory textbook to statistical analysis using this powerful and free software, and follows on from the success of the author's previous best-selling title Statistical Computing. * Features step-by-step instructions that assume no mathematics, statistics or programming background, helping the non-statistician to fully understand the methodology. * Uses a series of realistic examples, developing step-wise from the simplest cases, with the emphasis on checking the assumptions (e.g. constancy of variance and normality of errors) and the adequacy of the model chosen to fit the data. * The emphasis throughout is on estimation of effect sizes and confidence intervals, rather than on hypothesis testing. * Covers the full range of statistical techniques likely to be need to analyse the data from research projects, including elementary material like t-tests and chi-squared tests, intermediate methods like regression and analysis of variance, and more advanced techniques like generalized linear modelling. * Includes numerous worked examples and exercises within each chapter. * Accompanied by a website featuring worked examples, data sets, exercises and solutions:
http://www.imperial.ac.uk/bio/research/crawley/statistics
Statistics: An Introduction using R is the first text to offer such a concise introduction to a broad array of statistical methods, at a level that is elementary enough to appeal to a broad range of disciplines. It is primarily aimed at undergraduate students in medicine, engineering, economics and biology - but will also appeal to postgraduates who have not previously covered this area, or wish to switch to using R.

This little cottage, now hideously decorated by the carpet company which resides within, is one of the oldest buildings in Crawley. From the front there are so many silly advertising flags it's hard to see, but it's really more interesting round the back, where it's ancient roots show through in the form of half-timbering.
The cottage, known as Buckswood, was built in 1495 and extended later in its life. Farmland which surrounded the cottage was built on in the 1960s as Crawley's new town continued to expand. By some miracle it has survived, perhaps thanks to the Cheals family which once owned an extensive horticultural nursery in the town. The cottage sits almost surrounded by their garden centre, now called Squires.

More carpet offcuts. And the tardis. Why they had to put that in such a prominent place I don't know. It appears in the webcam too -I think the vicar should ask for it to be moved to somewhere less prominent. It is afterall right outside his front door and study window. I'm pretty sure that soon someone is going to be caught on the web cam going in or out.....LOL!

The high-level language of R is recognized as one of the most powerful and flexible statistical software environments, and is rapidly becoming the standard setting for quantitative analysis, statistics and graphics. R provides free access to unrivalled coverage and cutting-edge applications, enabling the user to apply numerous statistical methods ranging from simple regression to time series or multivariate analysis. Building on the success of the author’s bestselling Statistics: An Introduction using R, The R Book is packed with worked examples, providing an all inclusive guide to R, ideal for novice and more accomplished users alike. The book assumes no background in statistics or computing and introduces the advantages of the R environment, detailing its applications in a wide range of disciplines. Provides the first comprehensive reference manual for the R language, including practical guidance and full coverage of the graphics facilities. Introduces all the statistical models covered by R, beginning with simple classical tests such as chi-square and t-test. Proceeds to examine more advance methods, from regression and analysis of variance, through to generalized linear models, generalized mixed models, time series, spatial statistics, multivariate statistics and much more. The R Book is aimed at undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals in science, engineering and medicine. It is also ideal for students and professionals in statistics, economics, geography and the social sciences. Excerpts from Chapter 4 of The R Book Chapter 4: Level Set Trees and Code Learn how to make a volume plot and a barycenter plot, and calculate level set trees with the algorithm LeafsFirst, which is implemented in function ``leafsfirst''. This function takes as an argument a piecewise constant function object. The multimodal 2D example (Click on image to enlarge) We consider the density shown in the 2D three-modal density, and calculate first a piecewise constant function object representing this function, and then calculate the level set tree. N<-c(35,35) # size of the grid pcf<-sim.data(N=N,type="mulmod") # piecewise constant function lst.big<-leafsfirst(pcf) # level set tree We may make the volume plot with the command ''plotvolu(lst)''. However, it is faster first to prune the level set tree, and then plot the reduced level set tree. Function ''treedisc'' takes as the first argument a level set tree, as the second argument the original piecewise constant function, and the 3rd argument ''ngrid'' gives the number of levels in the pruned level set tree. We try the number of levels ngrid=100. lst<-treedisc(lst.big,pcf,ngrid=100) Now we may make a volume plot with the function ''plotvolu''. plotvolu(lst) We draw barycenter plots with the function ''plotbary''. plotbary(lst,coordi=2) # 2nd coordinate Note: We may find the number and the location of the modes with the ''modecent'' function, which takes as argument a level set tree. Function ''locofmax'' takes as argument a piecewise constant function and calculates the location of the maximum. modecent(lst) locofmax(pcf) The 3D tetrahedron example (Click on image to enlarge) We consider the 3-dimensional example. The calculation is much more time consuming this time. N<-c(32,32,32) # the size of the grid pcf<-sim.data(N=N,type="tetra3d") # piecewise constant function lst.big<-leafsfirst(pcf) # level set tree lst<-treedisc(lst.big,pcf,ngrid=200) # pruned level set tree plotvolu(lst, modelabel=FALSE) # volume plot plotvolu(lst,cutlev=0.010,ptext=0.00045,colo=TRUE) # zooming coordi<-1 # coordinate, coordi = 1, 2, 3 plotbary(lst,coordi=coordi,ptext=0.0006) # barycenter plot This time we have used parameter ''cutlev'' to make a zoomed volume plot. When this parameter is given, then only the part of the level set tree is shown which is above the value ''cutlev''. Typically it is better to zoom in to the volume plot by cutting the tails of the volume function away. This is achieved by the parameter ''xlim''. We may us for example the following command to make a ``vertically zoomed'' volume plot. plotvolu(lst,xlim=c(140,220),ptext=0.00045, colo=TRUE,modelabel=FALSE) Additional parameters which we have used are the ''modelabel'', which is used to suppress the plotting of the mode labels, ''ptext'', which lifts the mode labels with the given amount, and ''colo'', which colors the graph of the volume function to make a comparison with the barycenter plots easier. The 4D pentahedron example (Click on image to enlarge) We consider the 4-dimensional example. N<-c(16,16,16,16) pcf<-sim.data(N=N,type="penta4d") lst.big<-leafsfirst(pcf) lst<-treedisc(lst.big,pcf,ngrid=100) plotvolu(lst, modelabel=F) # volume plot plotvolu(lst,cutlev=0.0008,ptext=0.00039,colo=TRUE) # zooming coordi<-1 # coordinate, coordi = 1, 2, 3, 4 plotbary(lst,coordi=coordi,ptext=0.0003) # barycenter plot

Prairie Rugs Cotton Area Rugs Desert 2.5 x 8 Foot Runner
The World's Finest Handmade cotton area rugs. They are made exclusively for us in India with total quality control. The best materials are used to make our rugs including 100% cotton (chindi) rags; expensive European dyes; high-grade cotton warp thread. The rags are triple washed after dyeing to prevent color transfer. Prairie rugs are machine washable in cold water. They can also be dry cleaned. Typical cotton rugs are often made with low grades of cotton, printed cloth or cotton blends. The low grade warp thread means the rug may only last for a few seasons. Our handmade cotton rugs are made to last for decades because we use the finest materials.

A bit of spice -- hand-woven runner
This rug is for those of you who aren't afraid to add a little color to your life!
The draft pattern for this rug came from a Norwegian calendar, and the color design is my own.
The Scandinavian design shows off stripes of red, turquoise, orange and white against a black background. The rug is made from cotton-blend fabrics and measures 40 by 20.5 inches. It's small size means it would work equally well as a wallhanging or table runner.

Before and After
Replaced the commercial-grade carpet in the kitchen. We looked into putting tiles instead of carpet, but because the floor is not level all the way across, tile would not be a good choice (and it would be much more expensive).
We are happy with this though!
1634 Side
This side would be the rental. It has brown (kinda commercial grade) carpet throughout and paint job is not as good. Kitchen looks exactly the same, but cabinets a little more worn on this side.

Peshawar Spices
peshawar google finding #1:
"Peshawar is the most lively city of Pakistan. (...) The city lies at the edge of the Historic Khyber pass.
Being an important border city the bazaars of Peshawar are the most attractive. There is always a lot of activity going on. There are merchandise from all over central Asia here. Oriental Rugs, Afghan Jewelry, tribal Handicrafts, Wood carving, spices and all kinds of fabrics are available in the city."
peshawar google finding #2:
"The story of the gigantic car bombing of the area between Meena and Kochi bazaars in Peshawar, which killed at least 105 persons, is especially heartbreaking.
Muslim extremists in Darra Adam Khel appear to have planned and carried out the attack, done by remote-controlled car bomb. They had threatened the markets with retribution if they did not forbid women to shop there.
Pakistani extremists often preach ‘char divari’ or the immuring of women– keeping them within the four walls of their homes and forbidding them to go out at all. This idea, typical of Taliban sorts of thinking, is not Islamic and is contradicted by what we know of early Muslim history, in which women played an active and public role. "

Large round rug
The last in a series of hand-made rugs by Martin's 97-year-old mother. In this one, the outer braid, and one near the center, are clearly visible, as they are of different colors than most of the rug. For more information on these rugs, see the other photos in the "rugs by Martin's mother" set.
At the larger sizes, you can distinguish the different braids better. They have been woven end-to-end, and adjacent braids have been interwoven, so that the rug doesn't fall apart. There are six cloth strips in each braid.
I confess -- I got rid of some miscellaneous furniture by cloning the carpet over it.
Baby girl crocheted rug from flannel and denim.jpg
I made this rug for a new great-niece. It was made from 1 1/2" strips of flannel. The flannel started out to be large blocks of pink, green, baby blue... Once I cut it up into strips the colors became very verigated.
I did a few rounds of lightweight denim around the edges.
This rug is really soft and was pretty quick to make (thanks to the thickness of the flannel and denim).

Nuneaton Carpets
- Nuneaton is the largest town in the Borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth and in the English county of Warwickshire.

Nuneaton Through Time
Nuneaton Through Time is a unique insight into the illustrious history of this part of the country. Reproduced in full colour, this is an exciting examination of Nuneaton, the famous streets and the famous faces, and what they meant to the people of this area throughout the 19th and into the 20th Century. Looking beyond the exquisite exterior of these well-kept photos, readers can see the historical context in which they are set, and through the author's factual captions for every picture, and carefully-selected choice of images, the reader can achieve a reliable view of this town's history. Readers are invited to follow a timeline of events and watch the changing face of this vibrant town, as Peter Lee guides us through the streets of Nuneaton. There is something for everyone here, whether they have lived in the area all their lives, or whether they are just visiting this Warwickshire town. It also shows how photography has continually evolved to keep up with an ever changing society.

Interior looking east, Nuneaton Abbey
Interior looking east of the mostly reconstructed St Mary's Abbey church, Nuneaton. Note the battered remains of the original church's crossing piers flanking the central arch (which itself is a copy of the original arch which survived until the 1830s)
Not a well known building by any means, but a crucial one in the history of this town; this is the ancient abbey church founded at 'Eaton' in the 1150s whose resident nuns gave the present town the name 'Nuneaton'.
Very little of what one sees today survives of the original building. The cruciform church was sold after the dissolution and converted into a mansion. Abandoned in the seventeenth century it was quarried away until all that survived by the 1860s were the foundations, some low walls and the battered crossing piers of the former central tower.
In 1876-7 this desolate ruin was brought back to life as a place of worship after centuries of neglect, when half of the original length of the nave was reconstructed on the old foundations in neo-romanesque style with the old crossoing piers enclosed by a temporary brick stucture for use as a chancel. The west wall was also left in plain brick to allow for possible completion of the nave on the ancient footings further west at a later date, though this retains it's incomplete appearance to this day.
In 1904 the chancel was rebuilt in neo-gothic style on the old foundations east of the crossing by Harold Brakspear, followed by the north transept in 1930. The architect had drawn up plans to restore the south transept and central tower too, but sadly these were never realised, leaving the south transept as a ruin sealed off by the 1877 'temporary' brick wall and leavving the church in this odd truncated state today.
Inside the ruined crossing piers remain from the original church, as well as part of a fine medieval tiled floor (currently hidden under fitted carpet)'.
Situated in a residential area of Nuneaton, the church is normally kept locked; I visited on Heritage weekend in order to get a rare glimpse inside the churches of this area.
Nuneaton Abbey Ruins
Fragments of tracery, possibly from an internal screen rather than a window (can't see a glazing groove). These are scattered inside the ruins of the orignal west end of Nuneaton's abbey church.

The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century. ++++ The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. P1220959M - Putting Art to the test
Spott has a lie down on the Secret of the Syncope II.
Being industrial strength outdoor carpet (almost the cheapest one can buy, one step up from the green spiky fake turf stuff) he finds it unsatisfying. It doesn't scratch our art itch, let alone soothe our burning feet. It's not soft, or lush, or squishy; it's a thin coat of acrylic polymers on top of rolled concrete. It's also sponsored by the beer choice of gangstas. So we determine that the secret of the syncope is this: it's BORING.
CLEAR THE DECKS (June 13)
A worker cleans off the surface where old astro-turf has been ripped up. He’s prepping the area to lay down new outdoor carpeting.

Goodloe "Blood Stains The Fury of the Coming Storm"
From the innocence of youth, to the blood curdling realities of war, Hart Goodloe proved through the entirety of his life that the world is larger then one man. His life also gave testament to the idea that if a life is lived correctly, one man can leave an indelible mark on the lives of others. Goodloe is a story of timeless love, breath taking pain and quiet redemption. From it's inception the novel takes the reader on a journey commencing in the quiet town of Danville, Kentucky in the late 1800s and follows a course through the bloody fields of France during WWI, the Great Depression and small town American life. Following the life of a surgeon and a humanist, Goodloe weaves an intricate tale colored by the life of his wife Hattie and a bond of love that proved eternal.

More than 100 widespread myths about drug and alcohol abuse are enumerated and then dispelled in this book about the reality of addiction. Questions such as Does proper parenting and involvement prevent alcoholism? and Do alcoholics lack willpower? are addressed, and a myriad of addiction-related falsities that the general public and even medical professionals have considered true are identified and refuted. Specific attention is paid to defining and understanding alcohol addiction, including guidelines on identifying symptoms of alcoholism in social settings and detailed information on the biological difference between the disease in its early and late stages.

First half of lounge done
This floor had been carpeted over for at least 25 years. Good thing too as the wood underneath was in good condition, but was looking dry and dull and in need of some looking after. You can see some of the untreated floor in the foreground.
The floor was sanded, sealed, sanded again, sealed again & waxed twice. Alcove painted & shelves put up. Restored cast iron radiator's now working too.
This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago before being put back together.
At the moment this half of the room has all the furniture and boxes piled up, so it doesn't look much like this and won't until the other half's done. Hopefully be done in a couple of weeks.
End of the Day
Unfortunately the County has no extra dumpster's that they can bring out for clean ups. Along with cleaning up the garbage Southport members also transported 4 truck loads along with trailers to the convenience center. The County worker was afraid we would fill up the convenience center with the trash the volunteers had given their time to pick up.
At the end of the day this is the remaining pile of trash.

A ride with Surya..
Upon reaching Sangama, one has a choice to either cross the cauvery by foot or to take one of these boats across the river. The cauvery is very shallow at Sangama and the water will probably reach your waist.
There are a lot of warning boards nearby indicating that crocodiles are present in the water, but the locals said that they have not seen any in the recent past.
We took this boat that was captained by a kid named Surya. Surya was quite thrilled looking at the camera and was all excited to have his picture taken. There were around four boats on the day we went and Surya was probably the youngest boat rider there.
