Basements - All About Basement Finishing
Easily And Quickly Learn How To Finally Enjoy Your Basement... Even If It's Wet, Cluttered, And Scary.
Do you want to make more out of your basement... but currently only use it for boxes and Christmas decorations?
Your Basement Has More Potential Than You Ever Thought It Did
To some they are sources of joy, with furnished rooms, comfortable atmospheres, and plenty of storage.
To others, they are dark storage spots.
But many have found the keys to a great basement.
They've learned that basements don't just have to be used for storage.
They can be great places to have "fun" rooms in their house.
Why Not Turn That Space Into the Room You've Always Wanted?
Basements don't have to be wet, dark, and somewhat scary places where you store boxes of stuff you never look at.
They can be changed into something great!
Lighting can be fixed, the temperature can be corrected, and bugs and rodents can be dealt with.
In fact, even wet, dank basements can be turned into something you're proud of.
It feels too overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. You just have to know what you're doing...
Many basements stay the way they are because people don't have a vision for what they could be.
Just imagine what your basement could be if you put the effort into it.
Another living room? A downstairs bar? A craft room?
That's why I've written this book, Basements. I want everyone to know what I've learned about working with basements without all the trouble (and expense!) of trying to figure it out themselves.
Basements can take your homes to another level.
Besides being a source of joy, a finished basement can increase the value of your home.

19th (originally 25th) Police Precinct Station House
Upper East Side, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States
The 19th (originally 25th) Police Precinct Station House, located on the north side of East 67th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues, was built in 1886-87 to the design of Nathaniel D. Bush. Appointed Architect to the New York City Police Department in 1862, Bush was responsible for the design of station houses in the city until 1895. Bush's design for this station house, a significant departure from his earlier, simpler buildings, appears to have been influenced by skyscraper and commercial building design of the previous decade in New York City. The midblock station house, five stories high above a basement, was constructed with a cross-shaped plan with one-bay wings and is faced in red brick and gray granite with contrasting buff- colored stone detail. The design combines elements of the and the Renaissance Revival and
neo-Grec styles. The three-bay main facade, articulated as a grid formed by continuous rusticated stone piers and intermediate cornices, successfully affirmed the authority of the Police Department in the rapidly expanding Upper East Side neighborhood. This station house has served the 19th Precinct since 1929. In 1990-92, the building was rehabilitated and received a new rear addition. Today, it is one of ten Bush-designed station houses in Manhattan known to survive, and is one of only two to continue serving its original function. In addition, it remains an integral component of its blockfront, consisting of four impressive nineteenth-century institutional buildings, all designated New York City Landmarks.

The 28th Police Precinct on the Upper East Side
As Manhattan's population pushed northward into the Upper East Side in the nineteenth century, the district, though it was still relatively sparsely settled, needed a police station house. In 1852, a modest four-story brick-clad station house for the 19th Precinct was built at 220 East 59th Street. After 1878, with the construction of a new station house at 163 East 51st Street, the 1852 building served the 28th Police Precinct.
Other neighborhood institutions included Grammar School No. 76, the German Hospital, the Institution for the Improved Instruction of Deaf Mutes, the Ladies Home Society of the Baptist Church, the Presbyterian Home, the Home for the Aged Poor, the Colored Home and Hospital, the Union Theological Seminary, and St. Vincent Ferrer Church and Convent. Describing the need for a new police station house in the area in 1885.
Newly-elected mayor Franklin Edson had called in 1883 for new police station houses to replace inadequate ones, and wealthy residents of the 28th Precinct petitioned the mayor to furnish the precinct with more patrolmen. A police commission study concluded that the existing station house would be unable to absorb additional personnel and that the station house's location on 59th Street, at the southern edge of the precinct, made it difficult to provide consistent police coverage. Costello noted in 1885 that "although it has a separate prison it is the unhealthiest and most antiquated structure in the city."'^ For a brief period, additional space was leased in an adjacent frame structure. By the mid- 18805, however, the Police Department had decided, after considering several sites, to build a new station house on a lot on East 67th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues, that was both city- owned and centrally-located.'s The lot to the east had been occupied by Engine Company No. 39 since 1875.
The 25th Police Precinct Station House
The Board of Estimate and Apportionment appropriated $70,000 for the police station house project. Costello reported in 1885 that Nathaniel Bush "is now engaged on plans for the new Twenty- eighth Precinct Station House, and that "in a few months a magnificent station house for this command is to be built on the north side of Sixty- seventh Street," with a separate prison, at a cost to exceed $80,000
The design as reported was "four stories high, with a mansard roof, and will be built of brick with bluestone copings and terra cotta trimmings. The general plan of the interior arrangements wil! be much the same as in other city police stations. . . One novel feature of the new station house will be the prison connected with it... a separate building in the rear... The new police station house was not, however, built according to this design, and ended up being the second of two adjacent municipal projects built on East 67th Street during the 1880s. clean mold from basement walls
For years I’ve struggled with my own wet basement – until I hit upon a solution. I thought, “Why should I spend thousands of dollars for basement remodeling if I can do the repairs and modifications myself?” For a long time, I thought only skilled contractors could do it. Boy, was I wrong.
After diving headfirst into books about waterproofing and house design, I came up with a simple system for waterproofing just about any kind of basement. Whether you have a large basement with concrete or a simple crawlspace for old stuff, you can perform basement waterproofing on your own with a little DIY spirit, some tools, and a little hard work.
I’m sure that many of you don’t want to pay thousands of dollars up front just to fix a damp basement. If you’re like me, you probably have more important stuff lined up for that kind of money. So without further delay, let’s tackle the problem of basement waterproofing.
There are different waterproofing systems that you can try. Depending on your house’s design, your budget, and the kind of time you have free for this DIY undertaking, you can choose to install a sump pump, a dehumidifier, etc.. All of these approaches will be discussed in detail in this book.

Georgetown Cupcake Recipe from the Martha Stewart Show
Makes 1 dozen.
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon baking soda, sifted
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 1/4 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, preferably European-style, room temperature
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1/2 cup cocoa powder, sifted
Vanilla Frosting
1 (24-ounce) package fondant
Red or blue paste food coloring
Silver edible glitter
Red, white, and blue nonpareils
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a standard muffin tin with 12 cupcake liners; set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside. In a small bowl, add milk and vanilla extract; stir to combine and set aside.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. With the mixer on low, add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add flour mixture in three parts, alternating with milk mixture; beat until just combined. Add cocoa powder and beat until just combined.
Fill each muffin cup two-thirds full with batter. Transfer to oven and bake until a cake tester inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean, 18 to 20 minutes. Let cool in pans for two minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Transfer frosting to a pastry bag fitted with a large 5/8-inch round tip (such as Ateco No. 808). Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes and set aside.
Meanwhile, press your thumb into the center of the fondant to make a well. Place a small amount of food coloring (red for Republican, blue for Democrat) in the well and knead fondant until color is well blended. Continue to add more food coloring to fondant until desired color is achieved. Roll out into a 1/16-inch-thick sheet.
To make Republican elephants, cut out 12 elephant shapes using 2-inch elephant cutters. Sprinkle with edible glitter. To make Democrat donkeys, cut out 12 bear shapes using a 2-inch bear cutter. Using a 2-inch daisy cutter, cut out enough daisy shapes so that you have 36 petals; sprinkle bear shaped and daisy petal fondant with edible glitter. Top each cupcake with a fondant elephant or bear, using two daisy petals to make donkey ears on each bear and one petal to make the tail. Sprinkle cupcakes with nonpareils and serve.
Vanilla Frosting:
Makes enough for 1 dozen cupcakes
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
4 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
6 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
Place all ingredients in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment; beat until well combined.
one of a kind
I have this simple silver ring that I wear everyday on my right hand. It's a very special ring to me and since I wear it so much, it began to look a little dull and dirty. Dave, a jeweler at the shop people, wanted to show me how I could really make my ring look new again. Wearing extra tight fitting overalls, shirtless with his prison tattoos covering his chest, Dave brought me up to his workshop loft which was filled with wax castings, dentistry tools, stacks of papers, and tons of random doo-dads. He took my ring from me and dropped it into some chemical that turned my ring totally black. He took it out of this chemical, scooped some baking soda in his hand with my ring, spit in it, and started scrubbing my ring in this saliva/ baking soda mixture. He got distracted with our conversation as he was doing this and set my ring down to show me some of his treasures. After about and hour of Dave showing me his works of art, and they truly were amazing, he handed my ring back to me and told me that I had the basic idea of how to finish cleaning it. So with my baking soda and saliva-crusted ring, which was still half covered in the black chemical stain, I left the shop people with a whole new appreciation for Dave.
The dude is crazy, dirty, and kinda quirky, but I've never met a person more passionate about his work and so determined to get people around him to somehow be involved with it... even if it means just showing them how to "clean" a ring for them.

The late Tupac Shakur's second album recalls the densely sampled sonic strengths of Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet, except here the bass lines are cranked and the sly samples tend to the gentler touches of Motown and Curtis Mayfield than James Brown. This contrast between hard and soft is appropriate because Shakur is as likely to sweetly honor black sisters ("Keep Ya Head Up") as he is to get angry in your face. Consequently, even with guest spots including the Ices Cube and T., 2Pac's strong raps remain this joint's real shining star. --David Cantwell

That's what took this a long time. I cleaned up the virtual as well as the real desktop. I also replaced the bootup drive with a fresh new 500gb 7200.12 Seagate and used the old 500gb 7200.11 Seagate as the timemachine copy of this main OS drive. Also made a mirrored 1tb raid just for projects. My music drive now lives externally. Now all projects live on external loaded drives that can be docked via the NewerTech VoyagerQuad. (you can see it next to the right speaker).
AND! I also moved the bookshelf so it is behind me which makes room for my little couch seat thing I got from German. Now I have a little spot away from my desk to do laptop stuff or watch stuff on the projection screen. Also I got some wires rerouted and now the inkjet can be accessed wirelessly by all mac's.
Yay.... now on to posting some Philippine photos!

Shot of the sun visor in my car. It's one of those that holds cd's. It makes a nice splash of color, although there is an awful lot of glare and reflection going on here that I didn't bother to try and clean-up. I guess it's a low effort day.
If you can decipher my scrawl you might get a glimpse into my music tastes.
clean up my music
It's like Mr. Rogers at the controls of the Beastie Boys in this eye-popping collection of music videos and concert performances from the Imagination Movers, a critically acclaimed rock band for kids. The Movers leap, slide, hop, stomp, strum, drum, rap and clap their way through 15 educational rock and hip-hop songs designed for kids and parents to crank up together.
Dressed in their trademark bright blue coveralls, these national award-winning musicians and real-life dads jam on guitars, bang on buckets and teach kids a variety of fun, funky dances and sing-alongs. This DVD features songs from the Movers' groundbreaking CDs "Good Ideas" and "Calling All Movers." Highlighted tracks include the XM Radio #1 hit song "I Want My Mommy" as well as "Clean My Room," "The Medicine Song," "Please and Thank You" and "Playing Catch."
Scott, Dave, Rich, and Smitty--the Imagination Movers--make music that's as much for parents as kids. While their lyrics are aimed at the short set, their bouncy tunes evoke pop and funk acts like Smash Mouth, Devo, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (without any profanity or sexual innuendo). The first DVD from the New Orleans-based quartet, Stir It Up, features a heaping helping of material from both their CDs, Good Ideas and Calling All Movers. Lively videos alternate with energetic live performances, many of which feature audience participation. Some songs, like "I Want My Mommy (Time for Bed)," combine both approaches. Fans of the Wiggles and Bob the Builder are sure to find themselves tapping their toes with abandon, while learning some useful lessons along the way, like the importance of remembering your manners ("Please and Thank You") and tidying up ("Clean My Room"). My tiny bathroom with an awesome floor. They're not tiles unfortunately; just black & white linoleum. But still attractive.
There was a thorough clean that took place today so with the combo of nice light, I finally got around to taking photos of my apartment.
Entry lino removal nearly finished
Only a few more old linoleum tiles to go. Hopefully this aggregate floor (which is the original floor) will look better once it's been cleaned, refinished, and polished.

The Kelston Crapper
THE VILLAGE OF KELSTON AND THE INVENTION OF THE FLUSH TOILET
The actual invention of the flush toilet, the credit must go to Sir John Harrington. Sir John Harrington, godson to Queen Elizabeth I, was a writer by trade. In 1596 he penned a tongue- in- cheek article named "Plan Plots of a Privy of Perfection." In the article, he described in detail his invention, the first flushing water closet. He erected one at the village of Kelston, near Bitton.
THE ROYAL PEE
The water closet, for the most part, worked, and the Queen had Sir John install a water closet in the Royal Palace. The Queen was so pleased with her new convenience, that she had his article bound, and hung it next to her water closet. One of the many problems with Sir John's water closet was that it was inadequately vented, and sewer gas constantly leaked into the Royal powder room.
The Queen remedied this problem by placing bowls of herbs and fragrances around the room. The flush toilet, however, would not be deemed "popular" for several hundred years.
THE CUMMINGS WATER CLOSET
The belief that Thomas Crapper invented the first patented flushing water closet is untrue. The first patent for the flushing water closet was actually issued to Alexander Cummings in 1775. A watchmaker by trade, Cummings designed a toilet in which the water supply was brought low into the bowl, and some water remained after each flush. "The advantage of this water closet," he stated, "depends upon the shape of the bowl." The Cummings water closet was generally made of copper.
It was a great improvement, but the seal at the bottom of the toilet leaked, continually emitting sewer gases into the home. No one was aware at that time, that sewer gases were highly explosive, as well as great bacteria carriers. Other inventors sought to change both of those problems.
Joseph Bramah, a cabinetmaker who regularly "fitted-up" water closets, sought to improve Cummings original idea, and a patent was issued to him in 1778. Bramah discovered that by replacing Cumming's string valve closure with a crank-type mechanism, he would essentially get an air tight seal between the toilet and what ever offending odors may be lurking beneath it. There were some problems with this new toilet, however.
THE NOISY LOO
The flushing action failed quite often, it was incredibly noisy, and the seal would dry up if the toilet was not used often enough. Although Bramah installed over 6,000 toilets by 1797, without a tight seal, the sewer gas problem remained. By 1860, people around Europe were tired of the odor from the sewer gases escaping into their homes.
Along came the inventor Henry Moule, with his patented Earth Closet. This wonderful commode dispensed dirt or ashes on to the offensive materials, rendering them odorless. The problem with Moule's invention was that the contents had to be emptied by hand. People bought the earth closet in great numbers though, because they could hardly stand the stench in their own homes from their previous toilet experiences.
THOMAS CRAPPER
Thomas Crapper, an industrious plumber,d his shop on Marlborough Street in London in 1861, and aptly named it The Marlboro' Works of Thomas Crapper & Company. Crapper continuously tested toilets at Marlboro Works, so much so that he had a 250 gallon water tank installed on the roof of his building. Crapper's claim to fame is the improvements that he made to the water closet. He invented a pull- chain system for powerful flushing, and an air tight seal between the toilet and the floor. He also patented several venting systems for venting the sewer gas by way of a pipe through the roof. Crapper also teamed up with Thomas Twyford, the pottery maker.
THE POSH BOG
Twyford changed his pottery assembly lines from turning out tableware to turning out toilets, with Crapper supplying the inner-workings. Twyford also made toilets into art pieces, by molding them into many shapes including dolphins. The fine porcelain makers Wedgewood and Royal Doulton soon followed suit (Stein Rod). None of the porcelain manufacturers were opposed to the free advertising, as the names of their firms were emblazoned on the toilet, in a conspicuous place.
THE JOHN
Across the Atlantic, Americans were still using chamber pots, but only in the event of an emergency such as illness or bad weather. Other than that, people used the outhouse, a small building constructed over anpit with a bench inside into which several holes were fashioned. The user would sit over the hole and relieve himself. The flush toilet did not gain popularity in the United States until after World War I, when American troops came home from England full of talk about a "mighty slick invention called the crapper." The American slang term for the toilet, "the john," is said to be derived from the flushing water closets at Harvard university installed in 1735,

1981 UK - school cleaner, Derbyshire
This could be a council issued uniform overall or maybe an overall she has bought herself - some schools did supply uniforms whilst others didn't - some county councils had a standard uniform overall style for all female staff across the whole county and all departments.
Back in 1981 all school cleaners would have been directly employed by the county council as education authority - the days of schools running themselves through a Board of Governors and of cleaning services being contracted out to private companies were still a long way off in 1981 when this photo was taken.

blind abstract
shot of my bedroom window blind. I used a narrow DOF for abstract effect! When i told my wife that i'd been photographing the bedroom blind and the Dyson vacum cleaner, she felt convinced that I am truly mad. She has no idea of the joy my Canon 100mm F/2.8 macro lens gives me!!
Rain Drops On My Window At Night
I was about to close the blinds in the kitchen last night and noticed the rain on the window like it was in the shot below. I got as close as I could using the Raynox close up filter again with the 50mm @ f3.5.

Splashing it Clean
We decided to drive down to Disneyland instead of taking advantage of the plane tickets work was providing.
I mentioned that I was thinking about doing just that a week before the trip. I really don't enjoy the hassle of air travel, and when I saw the instructions that recommended we were to be at our shuttle stop on the return 4 hours before our flight, and realized that if I drove away from the hotel on the way back I'd get in at about the same time, I started to seriously consider it.
Then there were the side benefits. Obviously we'd have less stress because we'd be in complete control of when we left. But we'd also get a chance to take side trips--like this one to Casa de Fruta. (We'd hoped to get to see Lisa down in LA finally, but she was too busy with work to make it feasible.)
So at the Super Bowl party the day before, we talked about it. We kept going back and forth. Benson, who would get out of taking me to and picking me up from the airport, subtley argued in favor of the car trip. We decided to go, but then spent a couple hours on Gtalk later in the night deciding if we really really wanted to. (There were some cons--having to pay for gas vs. a free plane ticket, being tired from driving, not experiencing being in a large crowd of people from work taking over the airport, etc.) By the end of the night we made up our minds to drive down at 10 the next morning.
I woke up at 7:30 to a report on NPR that I-5 over the Grapevine was closed. Great! I called Wendy to say we could either fly after all or just spend a couple more hours taking (the much more scenic) 101 down. Since she'd already told the trip organizers she wasn't flying, we decided we'd do 101. Fortunately by the time we left, the Caltrans website said 5 was open again.
I almost always stop by Casa de Fruta when I'm heading down south, but I was tempted to skip it this time so we'd get in earlier (there were some keynote addresses starting at 5:30, and we were already pushing it). Since Wendy had never been, though, I decided we had to stop.
We loaded up on dried fruit, nuts and various chocolate products--and a couple fresh apples. I was happy for the apple, but we decided by the end of the drive that we should have gotten more of the chocolate stuff and less of the weirder dried fruit stuff (dried kiwi and pluots were particularly bad choices).
Desert Blooms
This little painting was a test of my patience and skill level. I started this a bout a month or so ago... figuring it would be a quick simple little painting. I was wrong!
Every attempt to paint it just ended in disaster. I painted and washed this painting back 8-9 times. I just couldn't get what I was envisioning... though I was getting a nice underpainting from the staining pigments!
I gave up... put it aside telling my hubby that right now this is beyond my skill level to save, but I know there is a painting in here.
So... it sat on the shelf for about 4-6 weeks. This week I decided to clean up my awaiting paintings before tackling any new ones. Actually I have been working on both new and old paintings... small ones... 8 x 10's and have been enjoying working with that size though I do like to work bigger... 16 x 20 up to full sheets (22 x 30).
This was the next one in the pile so I put it back on the easel and off I went. Well... first I use a Mr. Clean sponge and lightened some areas. From there I applied... lifted... applied and blotted... and let it air dry between layers vs the hairdaryer I use ALL the time.
I realize this is not the best composition, but I wanted to keep working with it to see what I could accomplish with the challenge. I used a scraping tool for highlights... I also used some gold and silver paints for highlights... just got them and trying them for the first time... so this was an experiment of all types. I do like to play with my paintings... apply, lift, scrub, sand... scrape... spray, etc. I rarely just apply paint and let it dry.
This is the results framed (the photo is a tad blurry) and I will say it looks better in person. I am proud of this little painting as just a short time ago it was beyond my skill level to save... and now it is definitely frame worthy!
Don't give up... set it aside and come back to it another day... there is a treasure just waiting to be discovered. Ohhh... and with the watercolor canvas you could paint a painting 100 times over or more... it won't let you give up...;)

Sambal Ikan Bilis / Spicy Anchovies
This dish reminded me of another sambal ikan bilis that has sliced onions, fried potatoes and roasted peanuts in it. Another yummy variation~ Jenny
Sambal Ikan Bilis
Ingredients:
1 medium onion
200g dried anchovies
6 cloves garlic
1? tbsp tamarind paste – dissolve with some water and extract juice
5 shallots
15 dried chillies – cut into short lengths, soak in hot water for 5 minutes and deseed
1? tsp prawn paste
salt and sugar to taste
Method:
1. Fry the ikan bilis until crisp and put aside.
2. Grind the prawn paste together with onion, shallots, garlic and dried chillies.
3. Heat 4 tbsps oil in a pan and fry the ground ingredients until fragrant.
4. Add tamarind juice, salt, sugar
5. Cook, stirring occasionally until the ground ingredients thickens.
6. Add in the ikan bilis and mix well.
7. Serve with plain rice or nasi lemak etc.
Recipe 2
Nasi Lemak Chilli:
It is a simple sambal tumis (fried sambal) that can be adapted to suit different palates.
Method:
- Knead 1? Tbs assam (tamarind) pulp with 200ml water until the pulp dissolves. Strain and set it aside.
- Soak 20 dried chillies in water for 30 minutes, then drain and grind them with 14 shallots, 2 large fresh red chillies, 3 cloves of garlic and 1 level Tbs of belacan into a fine paste.
- Heat 200ml of oil in a wok over medium heat until very hot. Add the paste and stir it vigorously into the hot oil.
- Reduce the heat slightly and slowly fry the paste until it darkens to a deep red-brown, thickens to a jammy consistency, and the oil separates out. This should take around 10to 12 minutes.
- Stir in 3 Tbs sugar, 1 tsp salt and the assam liquid, which will thin the paste. Fry for two to three more minutes, until it's glossy again.
- Adjust the seasoning to your liking. Let it cool, then store it in a clean, airtight container in the fridge.
Tips:
- Slowly does it, don’t rush when frying the chilli paste or it will be undercooked.
- You can vary its flavour in many ways
- Use different kinds of belacan, or palm sugar instead of white sugar.
- For more intensity, add a stalk of lemongrass or a tablespoon of dried shrimp.

Action on fly-tipping in St. Mary's Place - 20/10/2010
This afternoon we took action to combat a spate of fly-tipping in the St. Mary's Place area.
Both Dan and Tom grew up in this area and Chris still lives round the corner, so we are particularly passionate about the areas upkeep.
Residents had complained to us that fly-tippers have been targeting the area and dumping old electrical and household equipment in their doorways, with one elderly resident complaining that he had spoken to the Council but no action had been taken, and that he is often forced to clean the area himself.
We contacted the local Housing Office on Lavender Street who agreed to tackle the issue and make sure the dumped mattress and TV got cleared away.
We are now urging residents to get in touch with us if they don't get a satisfactory response when they report fly-tipping.
6/52 Fly-Tipping= A CRIME Against beauty
Fly-tipping is a menace that blights attractive countryside. Worse, the problem is growing rapidly.
In 2007-08, there were 1.28m fly-tipping incidents dealt with by local authorities in England, costing ?74m a year to clear up. 50% of these incidents involved household waste.
There were 5,326 fly-tipping incidents in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin in 2007-8. The clean-up bill was ?292,925.

How To Run Your Car On Water
Read on to learn how a free technology lets you increase your gas mileage by 50% or more in any car or truck, clean your engine, and save the environment.
It might sound impossible, but this book will show you how to:
- Run your car mostly on plain old water you get out of any faucet in your house or hose in your yard Shave 50% of more from your fuel bill every single year from now on...no matter what vehicle you drive
- Cut your car maintenance costs significantly, and have your car run better
This is not science fiction. It's actually proven science you can install in your very own car in less than an hour (even if you're not a mechanic).
It’s the dirty little secret “Big Oil” has known and kept from you for years… that water is power!
That doesn't mean big hydroelectric power dams that cover tens or hundreds of square miles. It means raw power from just simple tap water in a device smaller than a shoebox...and you can make the thing yourself!
It today's world, you're supposed to do your part to help the environment, but have you seen the price on a Toyota Prius? If you could afford "new" hybrid technology, you probably wouldn't care what gas costs!
In the meantime, you've got your current car and it runs 100% on gasoline ...which means you're a slave to Big Oil. Until now...
The big auto makers know all about hybrid cars. The technology isn't really "new" at all.
The big boys even know how to make cars run on water (no, that's not science fiction). But they're in bed with Big Oil, and that means you get the shaft.
They don't want you to convert to cleaner, cheaper, better fuels. They know plain old water is about 300% more potent than gas, and they never want you to find out. It would slaughter their profits.
The key is the science behind this. What you'll do is convert your car to a gas-water hybrid. You'll use both water and gas, but you'll slash your gas use to the bone, probably by 40-80% right away.
Crazy, but true. A simple device you can make at home for pennies will take regular water (H2O) and convert it to a gas (HHO) that your car can run on. The only waste product is pure water again! Talk about being absolutely wonderful for the endangered environment.
You can run for hundreds of miles on less than one quart of water. That means there's almost literally money pouring out of your kitchen faucet.
It's completely safe. And since water burns cleaner and more efficiently than gas, it actually cleans your engine and helps your car run smoother over time...not to mention saving the environment from choking CO2 emissions.
It's okay if you don't get all the science behind this. You don't have to get it.
Do you understand everything about your car engine? No, but you can still drive! That same principle applies here.
With this book, you'll be able to install this simple hybrid system in your own car in less than an hour. Or, if you want, you can give it to your mechanic and let him do it.
The system is 100% safe. You won't risk electrocuting yourself, and you won't be playing with nuclear fusion. You don't have to be a genius to prevent yourself from destroying your engine, or anything even remotely close. It's simple, easy and safe.
You can run your car on virtually free water, and pocket hundreds of dollars in savings every single year with this step-by-step manual that shows you how to implement this technology.
Stop paying through the nose, and actually start smiling when you go to the gas station today!

Shelby King Cobra Chassis
If you ever wondered what a sports racer like the King Cobra looked like under those body panels then here is a look courtesy of Dave Friedman. A little history... In 1963 Dave MacDonald convinced Shelby they should build a modified sports racing car. They ended up buying Cooper Monaco's and fitted them with their tried and true 289 and BMC-Huffaker transaxles. At only 1400 pounds the little cars cleaned up even from their first outings. There ended up being 8 King Cobras built, a few (maybe 4) are still used in vintage racing today. It is amazing how close the engine is to the driver compartment. You have to wonder what would happen to a driver if one of those racing engines blew in a big way.
Chrysler New Yorker 72' (Jason) 440 V8
We found this car in one of the many garages at Jason's Father in Law's house. It's one of those great cars that is just sitting in the garage for, who knows how long. The car is immaculate inside and out, with no rust, and a very powerful 440 V8 under the hood. The engine compartment looks very clean and the blue paint could be seen on the motor, as if it was hardly ever used. I should have checked to see how many miles were on the old girl, but forgot to do so. Nice Ride...

Tall Buildings, Fast Trains
I spent a day in Pudong, the area for tall buildings and fast trains.
I got up early. Too early. I hopped on the ferry across the Huangpu River to Pudong. The trip costs Y2, and takes about 10 minutes. The ferry drops off a little too far south, though.
I stolled up to where I knew there was a Starbucks overlooking the river, with a nice view of the Bund. It was 8:00am. The door was open, but an employee engaged in shifting some boxes informed me that the store opens at 9:00! In North America, a Starbucks store probably does half of its day's business before 9:00! So much for my breakfast of a latte and croissant.
I head to the Super Brands Mall. In the basement, there is a food fair with "Gino Bakery". I get a cappuccino and a pastry. It's cheaper than Starbucks, but not as good. (Actually, the best coffee I've had in China was at BreadTalk in Chengdu. There is a BreadTalk in Shanghai, but I haven't tried it.)
Next stop, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. It has a couple of observation decks and a museum. I decide not to go to the highest observation deck, because I plan to get even higher, later. The lower observation deck is at 267m. The view is pretty good.
I manage to beat the crowds of tour groups going up (no line at all), but there is a line to go down! A long line is already forming at the bottom.
The museum is under the tower. It chronicles the time of the foreign concessions in Shanghai, when the Americans, British, French, and Germans controlled territory in Shanghai, and built the Bund. The history is pretty interesting. The museum has some multimedia displays, and it is entertaining.
Next stop, lunch on the 54th floor of the Jinmao Tower. It is the tallest building in China, and the 4th tallest in the world. The Grand Hyatt Hotel occupies the 54th to 87th floors. The 88th floor is an observation deck.
The cafe on the 54th floor is booked up for lunch. Fortunately, I can go to the Italian or Japanese restaurant on the 56th. After perusing the menus, I choose the Italian. It is the most expensive meal I have eaten in China.
You know you have been in China for a long time when you start to think of Y100 as "a lot of money". It is worth a little less than $12.50 USD! It is also the largest denomination of currency I have seen in China.
The thought that Y100 is "a lot" is reinforced when a shop, taxi, etc. cannot make change for it. A big production ensues with the person going next door, across the street, etc. to find change. Imagine walking into a shop in Los Angeles, buying a candy bar, and being unable to pay with a $10 bill!
After a while, you start to think of Y100 as equivalent to $100.
So, my lunch in the Grand Hyatt was Y195. Y120 for a pizza, Y40 for a Coke, and an automatic 25% service charge. But, when you convert to dollars, it was $25 to have a very good pizza (thin crust!) on the 56th floor of what is probably the finest hotel in Shanghai, and probably all of China. And the service was impeccable.
The Grand Hyatt has an amazing atrium. From the 56th floor to somewhere in the 80's, it is hollow, and each floor has a balcony looking into the centre. Since I have eaten at a restaurant on the 56th floor, I figure I am entitled to take a look at the atrium and snap some photos.
Unfortunately, at the same time, three German hooligan tourists arrive to see the atrium. They are loud and obnoxious, and are obviously "crashing" the Grand Hyatt for a look. The hotel staff is suddenly on the alert, and they probably think I am one of the hooligans. I've got my snaps, so I depart.
Next task, check out the Super Brand Mall, another pantheon to shopping. It's just another shopping mall with fancy brand names.
I decide to go check out the maglev train to the airport. It is a few stops away on the metro. My intention is not to ride it, but just to see where it is, and double-check the operating hours. I will be taking it to the airport when I leave China for Australia. The Lonely Planet book states that the cost to ride is Y75, and I don't want to spend Y150 for a roundtrip.
However, it turns out that a roundtrip is now Y80. It will be nice to ride it during daylight hours, and without worrying about all of my luggage, so I splurge the $10 for a roundtrip. After all, how often do you get to travel 431 km/h, on land?
At speeds lower than 300 km/h, the ride is comfortable. Faster than that, it gets a little rough, and small discontinuities are magnified into jolts. When we pass the opposing train at around 300 km/h, the wind buffet is loud and jarring!
Finally, I end the day back at the Grand Hyatt, in the Cloud 9 Bar on the 87th floor. Two cocktails at Y80 apiece, plus 15% service charge. (Normally, there is no tipping in China.) The service is, once again, impeccable.
Pudong was farmers' fields, fifteen years ago. Then, Shanghai decided to build a new financial and technology area there. Many, many highrise
365 Day 236*
Hey Ryan, how many times are you going to lie down in the motherfucking street and take another self-portrait?
Well bitchhole, I’ll do it as many times as I want. And this time, you get to see my dirty-ass grey socks.
I don’t wear white socks. I actually threw all of my white socks in the trash like about a week ago.
Which reminds me, I need to do my laundry. I had the whole entire weekend to do my laundry and guess how much of it got done?
Not one non-white sock.
And since I threw all of my white socks out, I’m beginning to run out of grey and black socks. I think I’m officially as of today out of non-white socks. Now I have to start wearing dress-up socks up to my knees like a fucking douche-fuck.
I digress, the shot at hand is a picture of me **floored** smoking a fatty in the middle of the street in front of my apartment.
Floored!
Have you ever met anyone that all at once runs into you like a train wreck collision crash course for WOW?
I mean I see sometimes dozens, hundreds, or thousands of people per day in my travellings. But sometimes you come across somebody that just fucking wipes the slate clean and throws you for a fuck-loop around a non-existent sphere into the planet Neptune.
I love when I ramble and make no sense.
And those of you that actually are brave enough to read this far and give a fuck what I’m saying are true superstars. I mean like seriously I would high five all of you (and then say “too slow” and pull away when you tried to return the favor).
Whoop there it is! (I don’t know why I just said that, I just felt I had to end this and that is the only thing that popped in my head).

HOW TO CLEAN MY DRIVING RECORD - DVD CLEANING TIPS.
How To Clean My Driving Record
- A driving record is given to each driver. The record is determined by the experience, prior accidents, traffic tickets (speeding) and driver training. The better the driving record, the lower the risk.
- Is similar to a background check. The insurance companies will look at your driving record to see if you have any driving convictions, moving violations or a history of causing accidents.
- Kept on file in all states, a driving record is a log of the motorists' past offenses, including speeding tickets, moving violations, DWIs, and other incidents related to his or her driving career.

Ugly looking homemade mic stand and pop screen (pop blocker) combo for recording vocals and so forth without all the extra loud popping sibilance and plosive sounds. I looked up plans and not having a stand for the mic to begin with, needed to modify them. I combined pieces of plans based on what I saw at the stores. Hit Goodwill, score. Hit Big Lots, found nothing of use. Then hit Lowe's, and Walmart to clean up the rest of the parts needed.
The following monstrosity works pretty well (despite all the duct tape covering over metal or reinforcing places I did not want to move around much) and was made from the following:
used heavy metal-based lamp with snake neck - $2.50 @ Goodwill
plant loop stake (metal plant support) $0.98 @ Lowe's
2" by 1 1/2" ABS bushing 5 (pipe fitting piece) $0.66 @ Lowe's
#24 clamp $0.97 @ Lowe's
#28 clamp $0.99 @ Lowe's
Black "Knee High" pantyhose (two pair) $2.00 @ Wal-Mart
Mini basketball backboard $1.00 @ Wal-Mart (the craft section was out of embroidery hoops)
wall anchor screws and plastic anchors free, had them
purple duct tape, free, had roll
bread ties, free (used to keep the hose in place on the hoop since I misplaced my plastic zip ties)
scissors
wire cutters
phillips and flathead screwdrivers
Logitech (Konami branded) USB mic that came with one of our PS2 Karaoke Revolution games
Total Price: $9.10 before tax, plus gas driving around to the stores.
It works well, and a side by side comparison I conducted was amazing in the effect a simple $10 could bring, versus the cheapest $10 pop screen hooked up to who knows how expensive a mic stand. I wanted one I could use anywhere a desk or table was free. Score!

This picture was really last minute, but I like it :)
So I did absolutely NOTHING today.
I woke up around 2 and watched tv for pretty much the rest of the day.
MTV cribs was on, teen edition, and my god those kids are lucky. One kid has a slide that brought you downstairs. How freaking sick is that?! I actually did clean my room a bit and do some laundry, but only because I was sick of my mom being on my back about it and my dirty clothes pile was close to touching the ceiling, not even kidding. haha, whoops.
My sister was at her friends house who lives right down the street and my parents didn't want to go, so I took my dad's car and went. Keep in mind that I don't have my license yet. It was actually pretty comical. My mom was literally chasing me down the driveway. I want to go take my written portion of the test next week, but the DMV stops giving it so early everday except Thursdays. After I do that I'll still have to wait another couple of weeks for the driving part since everything is so backed up. Sighhh.
Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive. I still have to finish three art projects and start studying for midterms. Wahoo. It's so nice to know that there's still two days left of the weekend though.
Alrighty, 2:30 am. Latest I've posted a picture I think? Hopefully this will stay the record. I'm gonna try to get better at posting these earlier, promise!
Peaceee :)

I have an awesome custom messenger bag that was an integral part of dating and ultimately helped me marry my wife.
Being a city girl, I knew I had to impress her, so when we were dating, I ordered a Timbuk2 for trips to Chicago. It was perfect for walking Michigan Ave., going to The Taste, even survived a few RibFests without too much extra sauce with its easy-to-clean nylon fabric.
Three years(!) into the relationship, I was ready to pop the question, but how to do it? Since we spent so much time in the city, I knew a Chicago landmark or event had to be part of it. The summer concerts were still going on at Millennium Park, home of the "Bean," so that was a perfect spot to propose; the park, music, and a giant metal jellybean.
I asked her to go to the concert and we packed up to head downtown. I had already slipped the ring box into my bag, so it was ready for the perfect moment. We walked around the park listening to the music as I steered her toward the fountain. When we got there, I started my speech and casually took out the box of the generous main compartment.
Getting down on one knee, I asked her to marry me, and she promptly flipped the box closed! To this day she swears it was just surprise, but I'm not so sure.

Dug up ladies long down coat
Another fantastic landfill find. I know my girlfriend is very wasteful but this is just a crime. 6 foot below the surface I pulled out a Gucci handbag, then another, then a Louis Vuitton bag, then some Gucci shoes.
However, the straps had been cut. Then I pulled out a couple of dresses, but they had been slashed. Immediately I think back to when I first met Samantha, she bought alot of designer clothes and when she was finished with them, she'd slash them before throwing them away. Some of her friends did the same too.
Anyway, I keep digging and eventually see shiny black nylon behind the muddy water starting to fill the hole I've been digging. I manage to pull and dig carefully without tearing when I notice the label of the coat. I check it for any tears but see none. After several careful washes it's perfect. It's belt was even in one of the pockets. There is no decomposition or damage so I don't think it's been discarded long. I got a specialist cleaner to do most of the cleaning after I hosed it all off and they did a grand job, it even smells nice now.
I just can't believe someone would throw something like this away. It makes you wonder how much good stuff there is thrown in landfill.

Record Cleaning Solution
- When cleaning contact lenses, the first step is often to apply a few drops of cleaning solution to the surface and rub gently for about 20 seconds. The solution and the rubbing work together to loosen any debris, which is then rinsed off with saline solution. The next step? Disinfection and storage.

Mobile Fidelity: One Record Cleaning Solution (16oz)
Unless you have one of those expensive vacuum cleaning units, this one of the best and easiest way to deep clean your valuable records. This quick drying, alcohol-based cleaner dissolves particulate matter and evaporates, taking the residue with it, eliminating the need for secondary rinsing. Once clean, you'll notice a clear reduction in noise, quieter, deeper backgrounds (especially good on ambient and jazz records with lots of silence), and a greater dynamic range all around. For best results, use with 2 brushes - one to apply the ONE liquid, and a dry brush to remove any remaining particles. 16 ounces. Recommended.

The Cost
You're three tracks into The Cost before you find a song, "The Rise," that opens with anything but singer Glen Hansard's voice as the first thing you hear. The beauty is, you're waiting for the voice, with its hints of Cat Stevens's tonality and its utterly distinct Irish lift. It's Hansard that provides the Frames with such a rising vibe, the sense of a band always lifting off, pressed higher by Colm Mac An Iomaire's violin. Mac An Iomaire's strings slip and slide in the thickets of guitar, playing exceptional cat and mouse both when the guitars are clear and crisp and when they're crashing furiously. The Frames wouldn't claim to write epic tunes, but over and over the songs build toward ecstatic sonic events. Witness the hushed open to "People Get Ready" how it morphs into a violin and guitar-grit blast of wind-blown energy or the distortion-scoured hum behind Hansard's lone voice on "True" launching a languorous, piano-driven backdrop as the singer lets loose a first-class yowl--the stuff of anguished beauty. --Andrew Bartlett

Wow the room looks really bright here. This is the Version 3 of the room. Is it well done? I really like this version more then the others.
Do you like the duvet from dwell? It cost freaking 300+dollars so it better look nice! lol
The (Faux) Polar Bear Rug was from ebay and bought for a very decent 50 bucks. The best part is it feels so good on your bare feet....
My new pillows were custom made with a dupioni silk fabric and no I never use them because they are hard as a rock plus they cost a pretty penny so they are just deco. Is that bad? What do you think? Can we have deco pillows only for show or should they all be usable regardless of cost? I want to hear comments on this because I have gotten mixed reviews and I wanna hear more.
My hotel room in Debark
Very typical room in a budget hotel. The night costs was 40 Birr (2.85 Euro). As long as there are no carpets or rugs on the floor, these are usually reasonably clean, but rugs and carpets are the perfect habitat for fleas and roaches.

House Cleaning Association
- Housekeeping or housecleaning is the systematic process of making a home neat and clean in approximately that order. This may be applied more broadly than just to an individual home, or as a metaphor for a similar "clean up" process applied elsewhere such as a procedural reform.
- a formal organization of people or groups of people; "he joined the Modern Language Association"
- the state of being connected together as in memory or imagination; "his association of his father with being beaten was too strong to break"
- (often in names) A group of people organized for a joint purpose
- A connection or cooperative link between people or organizations
- A plant community defined by a characteristic group of dominant plant species
- the act of consorting with or joining with others; "you cannot be convicted of criminal guilt by association"
Living with Chickens: Everything You Need to Know to Raise Your Own Backyard Flock
Chickens-why not? Tens of thousands of people in all areas of the country enjoy raising these birds, whether for food or companionship. You can, too, with this indispensable guide. Then again, you may want to read Living With Chickens just for the sheer joy of it.
Straightforward prose and dozens of clear, detailed illustrations gives any future chicken farmer the tools he needs to get started, from step-by-step instructions on building the coop to a brief background on chicken biology ("gizzard talk"); from hints on getting high-quality eggs from the hens, to methods for butchering. Vermonter Jay Rossier draws on his own experiences and those of his fellow poultrymen in discussing how to keep marauders from the chicken coop, the benefits of homemade grain versus commercial, and how to live (and sleep) with a rooster in your midst. Personal anecdotes, interesting facts, and lush, full-color photographs of the birds and their landscape round out this comprehensive book.

like a room we all shared
“We was always outside, all weathers. Partly that was the fact that the houses was overcrowded and partly it was coz of them bloody bugs. Not that the houses wasn’t clean. My Mum was a real stickler, but you just couldn’t get rid of the buggers. Them blighters, they lived in the wallpaper, in the plasterwork. They bit ’til you was mad with it.
“The doors was never locked, we all knew each other and there was always people looking out. The street was like a room we all shared. If Mrs So and So wanted something from the shop or a message taking to somewhere, she would just look out the door and ask one of us kids.
“All the adults was ‘Uncle This’ or ‘Aunty That’. They saw if you done anything wrong or if you wasn’t in school or whatever and they’d just as like give you a slap and send you off and then tell your Mum and Dad and you’d get another slap from them.
“But then, they would also see if you was alone if your folks wasn’t there or something and they’d take you in and give you a sandwich an’ that. We looked after each other in them days.”
This story was repeated in one form or another many times throughout the memory gathering.
The familiarity of stories of the tight Cockney community spirit, can hide what it is that these elders were trying to tell me. The children were always out and about and were messengers for the community in the same way that nerves carry messages around the body. Children were at the core of the community. They were seen and they were heard and, although their life was tough, they had a place, a value and a role. All spaces were spaces where children could reasonably be expected to be.
These adults saw how different life was for the children around them now:
“They ain’t got nowhere except them silly little bits of playgrounds. And what with the cars all around and people looking at them like they was trouble, the kids ain’t got much choice of places.”
Demolition In Progress
They're knocking down the terrace at the bottom of Somerset Road. I'm always intrigued by demolition works, but I actually stopped to snap this one because these houses have an unpleasant association for me.
Years ago now, I crashed my car here. I pulled out of the junction just out of shot to the left, and straight into the path of an oncoming cement mixer. That my head bounced off the driver-side window, rather than the front of the truck, probably accounts for my not being dead. After the larger bits of debris had settled, I staggered out of the car and some kindly students in one of these houses offered the use of their bathroom to clean myself up in. I have a comical recollection of trying to dab surprisingly large amounts of blood off myself from the thousands of little cuts you get from flying safety glass, and failing miserably. I left the sink looking distinctly gory, and staggered back outside to find police all over the place and an ambulance crew trying to find the owner of one very squashed Peugeot. They carted me off in a spinal injury stretcher and took me to the local A&E where the police read me my rights (awesome) and the doctors told me I was very lucky and that the duck-egg bump on my head would go down in a few days (also awesome).
So I'm not sorry to see these particular houses go, because they serve as a reminder of one of the most stupid things I ever did - although I maintain that the lorry driver must have been going way too fast for me to have not seen him coming before I pulled out.
