Regardless if your considering your 1st Tattoo , luvin' your latest or sportin' a seasoned piece , post healing sun protection is a must in order to keep your Tattoo looking its best for life... its almost never too late to start good protective habits!

All, and I mean ALL Tattoo pigments (ink) WILL fade due to sun exposure! (tanning beds are just as brutal on a Tattoo!!) , Color , B&G or BlackWork are all subject to the ravages of sun exposure , and if a potential Artist tells you His or Her ink won't fade my best advice to you is find the nearest exit & be on your way , I can't stand a damn liar & refuse to let such a sack-o-crapp do my Tatt !

Pigments , the base of any color or tone ,will fade from exposure to UV Rays and in a Tattoo fading is a real kick in the butt , no matter how well its applied ,the skill or talent of the Artist after healing its up-to YOU to protect it FOR LIFE ...many clients have a problem with placing the blame for a dull or weak looking Tattoo on the Artist & often enough (not always! ,but more often than not) it's the client that was a slacker in His or Her duty's to maintain the piece , it only takes a few trips into the sun or tanning bed to begin the fading & the only fix for that is to go under the needle again & I would rather take such adventures in an Artist's chair to get another Tattoo rather than redo whats already been done... but that's just me.
~As in any piece of Art , be it a painting , fresco , tapestry and so on safeguarding the work from damage is a ongoing task ..Tattoos are no different~

AFTER proper healing ,protecting your Tattoo(s) will be necessary for as long as you desire it to look the best , not a big deal, but its a ongoing need & by simply applying a good sunblock ANY & ALL times sun exposure is possible you can protect your ink... a Tattoo is yours for the rest of your life & protecting it is a life long responsibility.
*** FOR THE RECORD ***
Sunscreen is not sunblock , anything less than a SPF of 45 is an utter waste of time & will only -slightly- offer protection ,the smaller the SPF number the less it helps.

The absolute best protection I have found is a total sunblock & a product called "Zinc Oxide" (available at your local or other shopping centers) ,yea yea I know its a diaper rash medication but its usefulness for protection is outstanding and is my best suggestion & ought be applied to the Tattooed area of the skin 15+ minutes prior to venturing out into the sun or cookin your hyde in a tanning bed ,its a ointment ,generally white in color but an assortment of similar products in assorted colors are available if you prefer. (doubtful your will carry that but often surf-shops & other specialty stores have such pretty products)
...I will use "Panama Jack's SURF 'N SPORT SPF 75 Sunblock Lotion" or a similar product if Zinc Oxide is not available.
{for those with sensitive skin Baby or Infant Sunscreen or Sunblock products are available & are generally hypoallergenic ,water resistant & moisturizing to the skin , but keep a minimum SPF of 45 in mind ..the higher the SPF the better!}

!! -if you time in the sun exceeds 4+ hour's I would suggest a booster like a spray-on sunscreen is rather useful & a quick fix , I personally use "Coppertone's ultraGUARD SPF 50" ,but a similar product is acceptable- !!

Many clients &/or fellow Artist have told me they never heard &/or thought of such protective measures but I assure you its worth it I personally have Tattoos that were done 10 , 15 & 20 years ago & guarantee they look bolder & brighter now due to my consistent use of "Zinc Oxide" than they would if I had not.
Weather riden' ,doing yardwork ,poolside ,at the beach on vacation or out -N- about protecting my Tatt's is worth it & when asked I gladly enplane ~or~ for fun I have often looked at people that just gawk & in a stern & miffed tone say;
"WHAT !! ..I'm a fuhhkin leper! , they don't exile us to islands or ban us from the general public anymore , keep staren' & I'll toss a finger at ya!!!" (as I grab my finger)

Pier 1 Imports started as a single store in San Mateo, California in 1962. Our first customers were post-World War II baby boomers looking for beanbag chairs, love beads and incense. every day my mum takes 12 medications...they help keep her alive...she relies on them to keep her heart beating at a normal pace, to keep her from hearing voices after the dementia developed after her stroke, to keep her blood from clotting, to keep agonizing nerve damage from her stroke less terrible...i say less because the pain NEVER goes away...and so much more...

medi-cal allows her SIX medications a month...SIX! so her medications are constantly going through, TAR, meaning it can take up to a month (and has many times) before she can get some of her medications refilled until they give her the okay...and sometimes they don't until the first of the month...her doctors are no better and it doesn't matter how many times we switch her to a new one, because they're all the same...

she runs out of refills, they take over a week to respond to the to allow them to refill..the above is for the pain in her legs, which can get so bad she can't walk, merely hobble...the doctor's office took TWO WEEKS to refill it for her because the woman she normally sees (who isn't a real doctor but a trainee) QUIT out of the blue and then my mum's doctor went on vacation for one week! none of these people gave a damn that my mum was suffering, that she and so many others needed their medications while they went on vacation...it infuriates me that as "amazing" as this country is, we can't get free medical and dental...

america is supposed to be this rich and powerful country, guess what? that's bullshit...at least when it comes to taking care of a sick woman who doesn't have the money to buy her medications, and instead has to continue every day in pain...

please don't get me wrong, i do love living in America...i'm proud of being born here...but it comes a time when things have to change...other countries run on higher taxes (oh yes, we hate that i know) but they're able to provide free medical and dental and schooling...honestly, i don't understand why we can't...

But in front of the camera she must have been shy, because instead of animating on her own I had to keep pushing the button in her hand.

Inviting

After Ottawa was hit with its first winter storm of the year yesterday, most of the city was paralyzed, but once the snow slowed last night, the market was full of people out drinking and celebrating. I loved the way all the restaurants in the market looked so inviting after the fresh snow.

I didn't feel like lugging my tripod around, so I stuck my 50mm f/1.8 on my D300 and set the ISO to 1600 - I'm pretty pleased with how it all turned out. I wouldn't have minded giving the building a bit more space to 'breath', but I couldn't back up anymore, and zooming out isn't an option with my 50mm, of course. Comments and criticisms are always welcome!

Printouts of the lecture slides so far from the course I'm taking over the summer...

It started out sanely enough at 2 per page, but then for the last set I switched to 4 per page and that changed the page direction. So now it's like two booklets stapled together, with 1 sheet in common, and it opens in a different direction on either side. (The back is still the last page, though, so it's not nearly as nifty as a book with two front covers.)

Baby Nayan

Chester Zoo’s new baby elephant calf, which has caused a stir of excitement among keepers and visitors alike, has been named Nayan meaning eye in Hindi.

The male calf, which was born close to midnight on Sunday 18th July, has been exploring his new home while staying close to his mother, Sithami. The name was chosen by both the Zoo’s elephant keepers and the staff from the Assam Haathi Project, the conservation project which mitigates human elephant conflict in north east India. The project is run by Chester Zoo and EcoSystems-India.

Nandita Hazarika , Project Manager of Assam Haathi Project, who was visiting from India at the time of the birth, said: “We are delighted to be involved in the naming of the Zoo’s new elephant calf. We worked with the elephant keepers to find a Hindi name and think Nayan is a perfect choice. As a charity, Chester Zoo funds various conservation projects abroad so by visiting the new baby elephant, visitors are helping support these projects and in doing so playing a part in conserving various animal species around the world.”

Nayan is the second calf for Sithami, 13, who is also mum to Sundara, six. Proud dad is Upali, 16.

117/365 - April 27th, 2011.

This morning, I anxiously made my way down to the hen house, hoping for the best... I expected at least 2 babies under their mama when I got down there. To my surprise, I opened the door to the "baby room" to see not 2 or 3... But 4 little ones running around! Not sitting under their mama, oh no. They were running all about, frazzling poor Rune's nerves, I think. She was quacking at them, pushing them under her but they were quite rambunctious, doing as they pleased.

I just stood in amazement. After a little squealing over their cuteness. It truly was amazing. Rune had tried to hatch ducklings twice last year and failed both times so to see her finally succeed and see such unique little ones, it was awesome. Out of the 4, none of them look like the other... #1 and #3 are similar in markings but very different in coloring. #1 is more grey while #3 is much darker, almost black. Then, we have #2. The typical solid yellow duckling that melts my heart. Ahh, she is so precious. #4 looks just like Rune when she was a duckling. A light greyish blue with a touch of yellow on her belly. She's the quietest of the bunch thus far.

Later in the afternoon, I took Mimi down to meet the littles and get individual pictures of each of them. Then, Miranda and my mom got to see them and I promised Rune no more intrusions after that! Except, well, me.

I stayed down in the hen house for about 30 minutes tonight, just watching them climb all over her, run around and play. Amazing that just 24 hours ago, they were all in eggs underneath their mama. And today, they are all active, rambunctious, little bugs. Life is amazing like that.

As for names, right now, #1 is named Ollie (long story!), #2 is Jubilee (subject to change), #3 is Zorro (or Zora if it's a girl) and #4 is Walter if it is a male... If not, it will be Trudy. I think. Kind of difficult to name them when you don't know gender but that's the general idea as of now. Ollie is for sure. The hatched on my uncle's birthday so Ollie and Walter are kind of in his honor. Mimi named Zorro/Zora so that will probably stick as well.

I have my fingers crossed for all females... or maybe one male. We shall wait and see! I can't wait to see what their coloring is as they get older.

The fathers are a Rouen (Ludwig), a Blue Swedish (Tobbe), a Blue Swedish/Rouen cross (Anders) and a Magpie (Ricky). I don't think the Magpie fathered any of them by their looks as of now... And I'm 90% sure all of the eggs were Rune's but #2 makes me wonder if Maxine snuck in an egg... A solid yellow chick from a Blue Runner? Kind of odd.

More goodness was crammed into the day... But the highlight was the littles. I continue to be married to amazement. And I dig it.

277/365 - Going for a Ride.

October 4th, 2009 - I went to Clarkesville today to visit my dad and his family. My grandparents and Miranda also came along to visit for a bit. It was very nice... a very good visit.

They only stayed for a bit but Matthew was quite taken with Miranda. He's such a little flirt. He did crack me up with his "I am a ro-bot!" trick. When he'd wind down, he'd reach behind himself and wind himself back up. Reallly cute! Otherwise, he was a wild man as usual. I spent the first 5 minutes of the visit flinching every time he ran into the walls or fell down.

I checked out my dad's goats and loved on his cats. Then, Mr. Noah showed up with his mama, Bridget. He has grown SO much since I saw him last! He's now a very mobile and chunky baby.

I munched on his chunk and smooched his cheeks tons. He didn't mind it one bit, luckily :P

The girlies don't get much mention because they're at a not so fun age (pre-teens) and aren't that friendly these days. Just seem to be very dramatic know-it-alls ;)

Bridget and I got along as usual. She's a cool chick and quite sweet.

It was really one of the best visits I've had with my dad... Things have definitely calmed down and smoothed out which I am incredibly thankful for. Also, there is an element of acceptance on my behalf as well. I've accepted Reeda and the kids. Noah is my step-nephew. Matthew is my step-brother and so on. It's fact. And I'm okay with that.

My daddy sent me home with REALLY good news and a bag full of scuppernongs... I was really content when I left for the first time ever.

I just kind of wish he wasn't so far away along with the robot and chunky monkey.

1966 STELLA IN LEATHER JACKET

On January 18, 1968, Ioana Claudia Moga was born. She was a healthy little baby girl and very, very pretty. She had dark hair and big eyes. What an amazing creature she was. I fell in love with her instantly.

Because I had a Caesarian-section, Ioana and I spent a little more than a week in the hospital. A few days before we left, she didn’t feel well. She had a slight fever and the doctors were a bit concerned. But they decided that the two of us would be more comfortable at home and discharged us.

It turned out to be a mistake.

We went home, and the next evening Ioana’s condition worsened. She began throwing up. Her temperature rose. And she had a terrible fever. We rushed her to the emergency room, and when the doctor drew blood, he discovered what was wrong. Ioana had a staph infection that she must have contracted in the hospital. At that point, everyone became extremely concerned.

Later, we learned that the hospital where Ioana was born wasn’t very clean. Nearly 20 babies had died from staph infections they contracted there during a short period of time.

Ioana survived for two months. The staph infection ate her. At the end, she had a big hole in her back because the infection ate her flesh. It was the worst thing you could imagine, and it made me crazy. I can’t explain how distraught I was; I was with Ioana in the hospital all day and all night during those two months.

It was hard. I remember the ugly hospital. I remember that everybody tried to save her. I even prayed to God, but nothing helped.

Then near the end, on March 18, 1968, my mother pulled me aside. She was a smart lady and knew Ioana was about to die. She wanted to spare me the terrible pain of watching my daughter die.

“Go home, Stella,” she said.

“I can’t, mom.”

“Go,” she said. “Change your clothes, take a shower and then come back. I will stay with Ioana.”

My mother knew what was about to happen. She knew that if Ioana died in my arms I’d never recover from the loss. So she did what any good mother would have done, she protected her daughter.

“OK, mom,” I finally said. “I’ll go.”

I left. I went home and showered and changed my clothes and took a break from that terrible hospital and the dank, dark hospital room. It was the last time I saw my daughter alive. As my mother had foreseen, Ioana died. And she died in my mother’s arms.

When I returned to the hospital and found out that Ioana was dead, I quite literally lost my mind. It’s hard to recall everything that happened after that. I was very, very depressed for quite a while and they had to keep me in the hospital for a few days. My mother stayed with me to help pull me through that challenging time.

We buried Ioana in a very little casket in the same grave as my grandfather. He was one of the best people the Earth had ever seen, and I wanted my little girl to be with him forever. They made a little hole in the dirt at his grave and put the casket in there with him. Years later, I wanted to bring Ioana’s remains from Romania to America, but they couldn’t find any bones. She was so, so tiny when she died.

My whole world changed with Ioana’s death.

Nothing ever was going to be the same again. Nothing. In the days that followed, I felt so guilty. I wondered if because we had sex before marriage that God was punishing me with bad luck. That was an old Romanian superstition, and I was sure it had happened to me. I should have divorced John right then, after Ioana died, but I didn’t. Everybody told me to stick with him, that it was just the grief speaking. So I stayed with John. And together, we went back to finish college.

The first year after her death was a blur. I didn’t want to go on. Holding that beautiful angel in my arms was all I wanted to do. I went through all the stages of grief just like every normal human being. I had no idea then why this had to happen. God doesn’t make mistakes. We may not understand why horrible things happen to good people.

Once I started to heal emotionally, I began to ask myself the question why my little girl didn’t get to stay with me. I waited and waited for the answer. It never came. I was in too much emotional pain to find the answer buried deep within my heart. I know that God was cradling me through every miserable existence. And I let him.

From deep within the strength of my soul, I wanted another baby. How could I even feel this way? I asked myself that question again and again. But somehow that’s what was supposed to happen next for me.

I was gentle with myself. It was the darkest year of my life. I learned then one of the biggest lessons of my life – that this too shall pass. I wasn’t ready to get back to feeling good about myself and my life. Somehow, staying in a perpetual state of grief kept my daughter alive and close to me in my thoughts.

My parents were very seasoned with dealing with tragedy. This one was their worst moment as well. Just when you think you can handle anything, life in Romania threw us anoth

Mac & Cheese

While at my baby Dr appointment today, my Dr started talking about her love of Mac and Cheese-ok, obsession really. She called it her crack. So of course, I couldn't stop thinking about making it for dinner tonight.

Below is the recipe I use with notes about what I changed, since I can't follow a recipe to save my life.

By the way, I highly suggest having a simple green salad on the side, so you don't die of a heart attack while eating so much fat.

Vegas style Mac 'N' Cheese with Grilled Lobster

3 ounces (6 tablespoons) salted butter
(I used a full stick-I hate having left over butter)
1 1/2 tablespoons finely minced fresh onion
(I used about 2.5 tablespoons)
1 1/2 tablespoons finely minced fresh garlic
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
(I used eight to compensate for the extra butter)
1/2 teaspoon Hungarian paprika
(Just had plain old Paprika)
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for pasta water
1 teaspoon dry mustard
(Only had honey mustard)
2 teaspoons hot sauce
1 quart heavy cream
(Oh my hell! I used 16 ounces cream & 16 ounces Heavy Cream)
1/2 pound processed cheese singles, diced
4 ounces sharp yellow Cheddar, shredded, plus about 4 cups for topping
(I topped with only 2 cups of cheese here..you know to keep it healthy)
2 ounces Italian fontina cheese, shredded
4 ounces fresh grated Italian Parmigiano
2 pounds dry macaroni elbows

(Did not add the three following items)
Grilled lobster, recipe follows
Bread crumbs, recipe follows
Chopped parsley, for garnish

In a heavy 6-quart saucepan over low heat, melt butter and add onions and garlic. Slowly sweat over low heat until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add flour, stirring to combine, and incorporate all dry ingredients, along with hot sauce. Stir until uniform.

Slowly whisk in heavy cream. Raise heat to medium, add cheeses and stir constantly just until cheese is melted. Cook's Note: do not bring this mixture to a boil; the temperature shouldn't exceed 140 degrees F.

Bring 2 gallons of salted water (you should be able to taste the salt, about 1/2 cup) to a boil in a 12-quart pot. Add macaroni; boil about 6 minutes, or until al dente. Strain, and immediately cool by rinsing with ice-cold water.
Ten minutes before you want the mac on the table, in a very large nonstick pan, warm cheese sauce over medium-high heat, stirring constantly with a heat-resistant rubber spatula. Once cheese sauce comes to a simmer, add cold pasta and lobster meat. Return to a simmer, stirring constantly. Turn out warm noodles and sauce into large casserole dish, about 6-quart size. Cook's Note: For individual servings, separate noodles into 8 individual casserole dishes.

Top generously with additional shredded Cheddar and bread crumb mixture. Smooth bread crumbs into an even layer over the pasta and pat down with fingers to form a loose crust. Place under broiler until crumbs are an even golden brown. Garnish with chopped parsley, and serve immediately.

Grilled Lobster:
1 cup parsley leaves
2 cloves garlic
1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for brushing grill
2 teaspoons salt
2 (1 1/2-pound) lobsters (live)

In a food processor, combine parsley, garlic, oil and salt. Split lobsters in half from the head down. Remove claws and cook for 5 minutes in boiling water. Remove parcooked claw and knuckle meat and marinate along with split tails in parsley mixture for 20 to 30 minutes. On a well oiled high heat grill, grill lobster tail meat down, along with claw and knuckle meat until charred slightly. Chop lobster meat into 1/2-inch cubes.

Bread Crumbs:
2 cups panko bread crumbs
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup fresh grated Italian Romano cheese
In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients until combined. Set aside.

I am not making this up

What you are about to read is a real story. No names or places have been changed to protect any innocent. The details are graphic and should not be read to children as a bedtime story. However, I have ommitted the details to reduce the gore so you are about to read a real story with toned down graphic gore. I am not making this up.

Tuesday night I went to my parents' house to use their pool. My Dad immediately began gesturing wildly to me to come look at something. It was a snake, in fact, the snake pictured above. He was really excited about it. In his words:

"The snake started over there, by your Mom's honeysuckle and has been hunting its way all along the pool fence. It's methodical. I'm amazed."

We continued watching the snake hunting in a very methodical way around the pool house and to a wire that runs up to the roof of the pool house. The wire is also in the above photo.

Though also amazed, I left the scene but soon returned upon an extreme amount of excitement from my Dad. When I had left, the snake had wrapped himself around the wire and was ascending the wall toward the roof. I am not making this up. I saw the beginning part of it.

What I missed was the snake entering the birds nest (Phoebe Somethings my Dad told me later). The mom and dad had been sitting in the nest, pensively watching the snake and uncertain of the fate of their 3 offspring.

The next few moments are a blur. The snake entered the nest. The mom and dad fled, along with an older baby who could flit but not fly. The smaller baby flopped out and hit the ground, 10 feet below, where it lay, stunned. The snake was out of sight for a moment then we saw the telltale sign: a wing helplessly flopped over the nest. The snake was strangling the baby.

We were torn! What trauma yet what excitement! This poor disrupted family! The cunning and methodical hunter snake! Hooray for him, he would live another day on this meal for which he worked so hard!

Thoughts were interrupted by the snake- I am not making this up- crowd diving out of the nest and hitting the ground 10 feet below with a loud thump.

There he consuemed the baby, now dead from the strangle, head first all the way to the feet. Success and failure!

The other baby was but a few feet away. Its beak opened and closed repeatedly-- feebly. We are not quite sure why; perhaps in attempst to call for help, perhaps grasping for air, perhaps in confusion looking for a regergitated meal.

My Dad, totally taken by the moment, nudged the baby toward the snake. We are still not certain whether this gesture was valliant or villanous; the baby was destined to die soon and this sped up the act. The snake began an immediate strangle and we watched the bird draw down its last breaths. Then, when lifeless, the snake positioned his very small mouth at the head of the bird. He unhitched his four jaw hinges and began to consume the bird whole. In the photo, shoudl you chose to view the gore, you will note a lump in the middle of the snake representing the first bird. The second bird is mostly consumed.

The snake consumed the second bird and very quickly moved the second lump back toward the first lump, we assume where digestion woudl take place. A very satisfied snake then slithered around and finally away. Success.

In the meantime, there was a total trauma underway. The older baby bird (or perhaps just bigger) was on the ground under a mesquite tree. The cat was coming over to see what the people were doing. Dad left to take Sydney to dinner so Mom and I were left to observe. We tried to comfort the momma and daddy birds in their horror. They sat low in the mesquite and repeated the saddest, most mournful bird song we have ever heard. Linus the cat came closer. The mom and dad began to tremble, the branches trembling beneath them.

Mom and I went closer, debating whether to let Linus consume the last baby. Mom and I found in our hearts we too mourned for the lost babies, though we understood the circle of life. We felt badly for these parents who had nursed their offspring to an age only to lose them. We would rescue the remaining baby.

Of the few roadblocks to our plan, the largest was language. We could not communicate to the birds our inentions. As we drew near the baby, Linus also closed in. However, Linus never spotted the baby. He ended up just hanging out. The mom and dad didn't know that, however, and began to dive bomb. They flew around and around, swooping and diving and flittering and fluttering, never close enough to be caught, by woman nor cat, not that either species tried. Finally, with the sun dropping behind the mountains and clouds ablaze above, I realized the effort was hopeless. Actually, I started wondering if they woudl get so crazy they woudl try to peck my head.

Mom thought this was a silly idea but we agreed perhaps if we left the scene the cat would come with us and the mom and dad could commiserate with junior.

Some high school girls showed up.

84/365 - I woke up and I was like WHAT?!

With every passing day, I develop A.D.D.
Not literally but it's how I feel.

I've been getting way behind on this 365 project and it's all due to my sleeping pattern. See, I go to bed around 3 or 4 in the evening and then wake up around 11 or so. I then stay up all night and do it all over again the next day.

So today will most likely be filled with internetness, entertainment from the TV, reading, cleaning and other crap like that.

I am going to try my hardest to stay up until 8-9 tonight. Hopefully I will succeed.

Today has been nothing but boring. We were supposed to take Catie to the hospital but everyone excluding Mom fell asleep. John dreamed away on the couch and I chilled in my room. I had a really good sleep but got woken up by Catie purposely plopping down on my bed. I'm pretty positive I was a bitch to her because I'm almost always a bitch when someone wakes me up.

She told me baby names. NOW, NOW, let's not get ahead of ourselves..

She's not pregnant. She thought she was because she got sick but it turned out to be a urinary tract infection.

I fell asleep after she told me the baby names and woke up around a 11 something. I didn't hear anything.
No Talking.
No Music.
No Laughing.
No Games being Played.
No IM's.
No Nothing.

I woke up and looked in everyone's room and they were no where to be found. It was peaceful, but bloody silent. I just assumed that David had picked them up and took them to the hospital.

Turns out, I was right. David's car pulled up out front and everyone was in it -- including David's Sister.

David's Sister, Jonelle and I go waaaay back. She's the one who got me smoking at a ripe age of 11/12. Anytime we would ever go swimming she always pushed me under and held me under so I wouldn't come up for air.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, She's one fucked up cookie.

They drove off and then John, Catie and Mom came in and told me about their 6 hour hospital stay. They waited forever and ever to get seen and it took a half and hour to get the IV out of Catie. (just because the nurses here are retarded)

Sooo they told me about it and it sounded really crappy. But at least Catie isn't in any serious harm. =)

After that Catie cooked homemade French Fries and I ate just about all of them. She then made tuna casserole. It was good, but I was soo stuffed from the fries.

Truth: I am a French Fries addict. Gimmie French Fries or hot dogs and I'll eat practically all of them. That's just how good they are. YUM!

Other then that, I've started officially reading Vampire Kisses 2: Kissing Coffins. It's really good! I absolutely love the series so far, but I kinda think Ellen Schreiber should do Manga for the whole entire series. Then, I'd be ecstatic!

I lovvve the main character Raven, she's so freaking awesome!

Anyway...My throat hurts and I am sick of sitting here so I'll probably go read some more. I might also make some more Hot Chocolate. Mmmm.

Oh and by the way...I'm thinking about getting into Dance classes. I think it'd be awesome. But for now I'll probably just do it in my room.

Boipeva (Xenodon merremii).

A Boipeva (Xenodon merremii, Wagler, 1824) e uma serpente muito comum de ser encontrada em praticamente todo o Brasil, inclusive em nosso bairro. E uma serpente de grande porte, tendo em media 1,5 metros de comprimento, e possui, em geral, escamas escuras acinzentadas ou avermelhadas com desenhos amarelados ou brancos, mas isto pode variar muito (polimorfismo). Tem como caracteristica marcante sua agressividade e a capacidade de achatar o corpo contra o solo como se fosse uma fita (Boipeva em tupi significa cobra chata). Possuem habitos terricola e preferem areas abertas proximas a agua, onde e mais comum encontrar sua principal presa.

A primeira parte de seu nome cientifico, Xenodon, significa dentes estranhos. Essas serpentes possuem dois longos dentes em sua boca que sao usados para perfurar os pulmoes dos anfibios (sapos, ras e pererecas) que sao sua principal presa, principalmente os sapos (as boipevas sao imunes ao veneno destes anfibios). Os anfibios, quando sao capturados, enchem os pulmoes de ar para aumentar o tamanho do corpo o que dificulta para serem engolidos. Ja a segunda parte de seu nome cientifico e uma homenagem a um pesquisador alemao.
Apesar de serem agressivas, de possuirem esses dentes longos no fundo da boca, e ainda terem o padrao de cores parecidos com os da Jararaca, estas serpentes nao possuem veneno, e sendo assim, nao apresentam risco para os seres humanos. Como nao sao venenosas, nem constritoras (cobras que apertam para matar, como a sucuri e a jiboia) e nem sobem em arvores, sao teoricamente indefesas. Por causa dessas restricoes elas se tornaram mestres do blefe e usam como artificio o mimetismo (mimica, imitam neste caso uma cobra venenosa), alem de achatar o corpo, chiar, escancarar a boca, dar bote e fugir. Dessa forma elas conseguem enganar os predadores e se mantem vivas.

Os dados a respeito da reproducao desses seres sao relativamente incertos, parece que preferem as epocas mais quentes do ano e botam de 5 a 45 ovos.

Os encontros com seres humanos costumam ser catastroficos para estes animais. Pelo simples fato de serem serpentes, e pela incompreensao das pessoas, elas ja tendem a ser mortas. Como estas se fazem parecer com cobras venenosas, e assustam as pessoas com sua agressividade, quase sempre sao mortas.

Gostaria de deixar aqui uma observacao pessoal. Nao e pelo fato de serem venenosas, ou nao, que as cobras tem que ser mortas. Todos os seres vivos tem sua importancia dentro da natureza, e com elas nao e diferente. Trata-se de predadores absurdamente especializados e grandes controladores de populacoes de animais de pequeno porte, principalmente de roedores. Nossa falta de conhecimento e incompreensao nos leva a atitudes mal medidas e drasticas. Entao, busquem informacoes a respeito desses seres, aprendam bastante e os compreendam. E possivel que, entendendo esses animais, o medo se transforme em respeito e admiracao.

As serpentes nao sao mas e nao correm atras das pessoas. Em caso de encontros com serpentes, simplesmente as deixem em paz, elas evitarao o encontro por conta propria. Se, ainda assim, moradores do JP, nao quiserem esses animais nas proximidades de suas residencias, devem, preferencialmente, ligar para a FUNED e chama-los, ou me chamar. Farei a remocao sempre que possivel (lembrem-se que tambem trabalho e nao estarei disponivel 100% do tempo). Para quem quiser tentar, a captura podera ser feita de tres maneiras: com o laco (um laco na ponta de uma longa haste como um cabo de vassoura), com o gancho (uma haste com um gancho na ponta para carrega-las pela barriga) e com um balde (caso elas estejam enroladas e imoveis, coloca-se o balde por cima delas e passa uma prancha ou uma tabua por baixo do balde). E sempre aconselhavel estar com roupas apropriadas para fazer a captura.

The Boipeva (Xenodon merremii, Wagler, 1824) is a very common snake to be found in virtually all of Brazil, including in our neighborhood. It is a large snake, averaging 1.5 meters in length, and has, in general, scales dark gray or red with yellow or white drawings, but this can vary greatly (polymorphism). Its striking feature of its aggressiveness and the ability to flatten the body into the ground like a ribbon (in Tupi means Boipeva flat snake). Have terrestrial habits and prefer open areas near water, where it is more common to find their main prey.

The first part of its scientific name, Xenodon means strange teeth. These snakes have two long teeth in his mouth that are used to pierce the lungs of amphibians (frogs and toads) that are their main prey, mainly frogs (boipevas are immune to the venom of amphibians). Amphibians, when they are caught, they fill our lungs with air to increase the size of the body making it difficult to be swallowed. The second part of its scientific name is a tribute to a German researcher.
Although they are aggressive, they have long teeth in the back of the mouth, and still have the color pattern similar to those of Jararaca,

unfortunately, ADDA has a very soft heart and every August is difficult for that is when my dear cat, LITTLE BABY passed away two years ago.

LITTLE BABY is always in my heart...and in my memories...

Someone made some comments on how one really just has to let go of those feelings. Way to harsh for ADDA.

My cats, as well as SO many friends have passed on, though they all still hold a special place in my heart.

ADDA wrote this little true story how one should have hope...I guess that is why I like 'MANHATTEN', the movie by WOODY ALLEN. The last line, "One should always have hope".

everyday in SWISSLAND, we would walk by a contained yard which had one of the most beautiful cats we ever did see...We always made sure to peek through the grape vine fence to say 'BONJOUR'...

the beautiful white cat with black markings would come close to greet us, and then roll around and then walk away. we were always so overjoyed to see this wonderful cat.

one day, we saw the owners sitting at the cafe table in the yard, with the big beautiful cat resting next to them. we were overjoyed to see the owners for we wanted to know the cats name...

'MOOSE... '
'Oh, like the animal in North America?'
'No, MOOUSE is the french word for PUTTY, like the stuff one uses when they are putting up drywall.'
'WOW...well, that's rather unique...why MOOUSE...though it fits him perfectly!'

'WELL, several years ago we moved from France to this place here in SWTIZERLAND. Everything was going fine, though the last few days of the move were rather hetic for MOOUSE.

The last day, the movers came and took everything out of the house. '

or so we thought for we could not find him anywhere. We were in a panic for we were LEAVING.

NO MOOUSE to be found anywhere. Everyone was in tears...It was horrible and sad. We had the whole neighborhood crying and trying to find our beloved cat. Our move as well as our family was falling apart because of our missing cat.

We moved here and we went back almost twice or three times a week to the old place. We put up flyers. We left food. We left water...The new owners even knew of our plight.

When the moving truck arrived, we already knew of the missing cat and the possibility that the cat may of jumped into a box, you know how they love boxes, and MOOUSE could of been accidentally packed!

You have never seen boxes un-packed so fast in your life. Even the movers were helping! Opened boxes everywhere...stuffed scattered all over the place.

Our family was torn...as well as the house was torn-up for we were remodeling several rooms at the time. My wife said, "All the moouse in the world can not hold those walls together if the family is not intact."

We all cried...again.

Life went on. Our hearts had the memory of our dear cat.

One early eve, six months later we heard a distint 'meow' outside our house.

IT WAS MOOUSE...!

MOOUSE crossed the FRENCH-SWISS border, crossed a river (though probally over a bridge, though one is guarded by the boarder patrol), made it up the hill, and over this fenced in yard.

MOOUSE is the moouse that keeps this family together..MOOUSE found us, though he never left our hearts.

Baby Bird

We just had our towering indian trees trimmed and cut and so there are empty nests lying around our backyard again... I was kind of half-wishing there was a baby bird left in one of them. I've always been fascinated with nests and little eggs and baby birds (who wouldn't?). But my fascination is a little something of the extraordinary which started when I was a kid. You see, I came across the book "Elizabeth Hatches an Egg," a part of the Sweet Valley Series... That particular book sparked my imagination and curiosity that I wanted so hard to find me an egg and wanted to challenge the possibility of hatching it just by keeping it warm under my pillow. Then I'll have a baby chick that will think I'm his mommy... And I'll have to carry it around and feed its little hungry mouth. Bizarre much? In another SVH book, I forgot the title, the students from Sweet Valley High had an assignment that included taking care of an egg and bringing it to school everyday for several days, taking turns with a partner. At first, it seemed that it was an easy job but later on the students found out that it's quite challenging to keep a little egg safe, or to at least not lose the egg. The assignment, of course, was to teach them responsibility. I also read from another book, I'm not sure but I think it's from The Babysitter's Club series, the students where each given a sandbag to carry around like it's a baby. Aside from responsibility, I assume the assignment was to imply that child-rearing isn't all that easy. For some reason, that kind of assignment thrilled me. And I remember wishing we could do it at school back then. As I grew older, I also loved babysitting my twin cousins when they were little tots. I really loved babies and kids..! I would feel proud if I lulled a baby to sleep. And when my friends started having their own kids, I felt quite jealous. So jealous that I told my husband, my then fiance, I wanted to have a baby already. And he felt the same. ¦

And now you see, I have my little boy already... I now have a little hungry mouth to feed, an egg to take care of, and a sandbag to carry around, a very mobile sandbag at that... ^_^

When does a hobby become an obsession?

Has a simple hobby like birdwatching become an obsession when the highlight of your week is when your bulk order of 5000 mealworms comes in? Or can you call it obsession when you are buying a 13 lb box of oranges at Costco and a woman also buying some tells you how much her and her husband love these oranges and you reply " these are for MY Orioles" Oh well I guess I could have a lot worse obsessions. Glad you all enjoy it with me.

Buddy and Holly seem to be doing well and constantly feeding as you can see. It has been very cold and rainy this week, so the nest checks have been very quick and not many good shots. I take one or two quick ones and if they don't turn out..I have to wait until tomorrow.
