For My Blue Moon Birthday Gal, Born on New Year's Eve.
I'm a day late on this because I'd hoped to get a shot of the real blue moon, but the clouds didn't cooperate, so I used an earlier moon shot I'd taken instead. Sammy's birthday was New Year's Eve, so she's truly my once-in-a-blue moon baby. Everyone thought how great it must be to have your birthday on New Year's Eve because, wherever you go, there's always a party. The only problem with that was the party was always in celebration of New Year;s Eve, and Sammy's birthday got kinda lost. So, eventually we stopped going to parties and focused on only Sammy's birthday all evening long; and if we were still awake at midnight, we'd wish each other a happy new year, and that would be it for our New Year's Eve celebration.
By the way, the last blue moon occurred on June 30, 2007, which was my birthday...

Baby Carmelo O'mari Ard, son of Ta'kia Ard delivered five-seconds after midnight on 1/01/11 at Regional Medical Center in Covington is the first baby born in Louisiana in 2011. The hospital thought he might be the first baby born in the USA, but babies in Chicago and New York CIty beat him out.

Hello, 7am!
The last week has brought big changes!
First of all, after my breastfeeding pep talk with Lauren, I am now
down to two pumps a day. And we have also had a day or two with no
bottles. Last night, we would have skipped the bottle except it was
Lucy's first National's game. I'm still not convinced that the Bebe Au
Lait Hooter Hider would hide the goods from those sitting behind me.
Plus it was like having a built in babysitter. Laura pretty much held
her the entire time and then passed her on to Lizzie for the dirty work.
Plus I've officially given up my stat sheet and traded it in for the
most amazing iPhone application, which is labled creatively as Nursing
on my screen. Henry pointed out at least four times that I have a
breast on my phone. Yes, I guess you're right. Now I know at a quick
glance on which side to feed, how long it's been, and how many times
she's eaten. With this info, her snacky ways seem to be fading away.
Maybe because I'm feeding her more regularly and there's no need to
play catch up. It's time to remove the batteries from the Itzbeen and
pack it away.
Second, I finally put Lucy in her crib. After nine weeks of bliss in
her Moses basket, Lucy was starting to push off on the walls of the
basket. She would push up to the top against her head. The self-
rocking benefit of the stand was useless because all of her weight was
tipped to the top. I guess that stepping reflex was really getting the
best of her, because she was even pushing her way out of her pjs. The
first night this happened, I found her with the neck of her gown
around her waist and one hand still stuck inside. It was around 4 or
so. The night before last, I skipped the gown, but she also had her
shoulders out of her legged pajamas. So last night when I noticed her
shoulder peeking through within minutes of laying her down, I made
Henry take everything out of the crib and put it in the Moses basket.
I was a tad bit scared that everything would end up on the floor in
the middle of the night.
Third, we successfully swaddled Lucy. I would tell people who asked
that we were only able to swaddle her twenty-five percent of the time.
In fact I had packed away her miracle blanket in the baby number two
bag. Everytime we attempted to put her in it, she made her way out
like Hoodini. We took advantage of Sarah's visit by asking her to wrap
Lucy for us. Dylan seemed excited by the sight of being wrapped up
like a mummy, what must be a distant memory. She wrapped and tucked
and we stood and counted. She was out. So instead of going out for
dinner, Henry went to pick up take out. Wow! Maybe she was just too
small before.
The swaddle sack with Velcro was another failure. The sleep sacks seem
to be a guaranteed chance that she will work her way out of her
diaper, poop and grind it into her skin for the rest of the night. But
I was open to the idea of swaddling her again, especially since there
was serious changes happening with her Moses basket.
Last night Lucy screamed bloody murder while I strapped her in her
straight jacket, I mean wrapped her in her miracle blanket. I know
that she loves to sleep with her hands next to her face. And
seriously, no miracle blanket baby is going to find their thumb in the
middle of the night. I was tempted to take her out as she continued to
cry. But I found her pacifier, attempted a couple of other S's
(swaddle, suck, shhh, swing, and ...., I can't remember the fifth),
and placed her in the crib. Next thing I knew it was 7 am. Instead of
sitting down to feed her, I took her back to Henry to share the good
news. Essentially she slept through her 4 am feeding. Hallelujah!
And finally, Lucy has graduated out of the Newborn diaper size and
into a number one. The Newborn size is so tiny! Who knew they made
diapers that small. And I guess there are even smaller ones for
preemies. I started to notice her legs were looking very tight and a
few additional blow-outs were happening. So I ordered a huge case from
diapers.com to be stocked and ready. Now she has plenty of room to let
things flow. I hope not too much room.
The best medicine
Day 175 of 365 (Monday) - I was woken a lot in the night as I had two poorly children. In my experience cuddles and Mummy milk cure most things, without the need for anything else. It helped my baby son cool down from his temperature the other night, and last night he went to bed with a rash, which by morning had almost disappeared. The two of us were lucky enough to return to bed for cuddles, more feeding, and some much welcome sleep too. Breastfeeding is an important part of how I raise my children, yet I have so few images of it. I had planned to just take a few shots of my baby generally, but he soon tired of that and wanted to feed again. I am thankful to 365 for ensuring I have such photos to remind me of precious times.

I just found the right place for my 1994 Macintosh Color Classic. I bought her as 2nd hand (but looked like new) from SVOA (An Apple Auth Dealer in Thailand) & then used for around 3-4 months before went to another PC. She had always been kept in closed since then. Day Twenty Seven
Isobel just didn't want to sleep last night. I don't know if it's the heat or her teeth or the fact that it's so light out for so late, or something else but she was up constantly throughout the night. As such Brandi ended up staying home sick since she was the one mostly getting up to try and get her down with her boobies.
I got to show Brandi that I can get her down for naps during the daytime with minor fussing only. Sadly though the naps don't stick for very long unless she's sleeping in our bed with me. I'm getting a little worried with that too though with her being able to crawl potentially off the bed now.
We had that infant study out at UBC today as well so we drove out there. My plan initially was to also head down to Wreck Beach afterwards but upon reading the weather report that said "chance of rain in the afternoon" we chickened out. Sadly it was nice and sunny. We may have to go down in the evening next time though to try and get a cooler time rather than the middle of the day. Also Angel couldn't come as she was suffering a hangover.
After the infant study we headed into Nitobe Gardens which is where this was taken. It was very pretty. Brandi took a lot of pictures including this timer one that she nearly killed herself running to get into place.
We stopped off at the Kits Beach Hamburger Stand to see if Mark was working but we did not see him. Got home and had family bath night after eating and I proceeded to Raid Ulduar in WOW. I won a pair of boots and a ring and nearly got this really REALLY good hat but another person beat me on the roll. Le sigh. Time for bed now.

I am not much of a muso, I don't own a U2 album [yuk, I don't like rock, are they even rock? i don't like them anyway] and the thought of getting my pedicured toes muddy at Glastonbury fills me with fear [and I won't mention the toilets] but I do love music. Mainly pop, sorry Spud. I am a cheesy quaver at heart and spent my formative years raving in various clubs, fields and marquees. However I now prefer dancing in the comfort of my own home [what's a club? it's a biscuit non?]. Actually, that's a bit of a lie, I'd love to go out more but it's tough with a young family as they're not allowed in. wah.
So there's always a song playing in my head and I seem to have an amazing memory for lyrics which is mad because i don't remember much else unless I consciously log it.

This picture was not taken by me (of course!). This was taken by my husband, with the help of surgery lamp :-D.
I delivered my baby with waterbirth method, which said to be less painful and more relaxing. Whatever they said, it's still painful :-|, but since I love hot tub... well... it helps a lot. Actually, I slept for a while, maybe about 15-30 seconds in the pool, and suddenly woke up when contractions came. But since waterbirth is a very natural way to give birth (I didn't really need to push, we just wait until my baby push herself to the water), the doctor was actually busy with his blackberry and all nurses was just joking around and have fun. Maybe I'm the only one laughing with wrinkles between my eyes.
It took about 3 hours since I entered the pool until my baby was swimming from my tummy into the water. It was such unforgettable moment when she came out of that water with sleepy eyes and funny voice. And I was amazed with her thick, black hair. What a beauty!

Baby Jack was born yesterday! April Fools Baby! We went to visit him and Charity and Trevor in the hospital tonight. Jack is adorable. Look how little he his! 6 lbs. 10 oz. He looks like a baby doll!

In 798 AD Charlemagne dispatched an embassy to Baghdad with orders to seek an alliance with the ruler of the Muslim empire,Caliph Harun al-Rashid. Interested in negotiation he decided to send Charlemagne a very special gift—a gift, he said in his note to the Imperial Council, that few in Europe had seen since Hannibal and his Carthaginians marched across the Alps - an elephant.
There are no details on where the Caliph's animal trainer found the elephant or how he got it to Europe. But find it and get it there he did. In the spring of 801 the huge creature lumbered patiently down the streets of Aachen, an old Roman town in western Germany near today's border between Belgium and Holland—a town newly prosperous since Charlemagne, ruling King of the Franks and recently crowned Holy Roman Emperor, had chosen it as his residence a few years earlier.
To Aachen, the arrival of the elephant was an exciting event. Crowds turned out to meet it. Boys, running and slipping over the cobblestone streets, shouted excitedly to their friends to come see. Adults, gathered in taverns or working in shops, turned out to point and stare at this gray beast with the stubby tail and the long trailing nose.
As for the alliance that Charlemagne wanted, it never came off. Charlemagne and Harun al-Rashid achieved no more than a vague understanding on trade and communications. Charlemagne, however, did keep the elephant and, later, even took him into battle where he frightened enemy horses. By the time he died in 810, his name—Abul Abbas—had become a household name in France and Germany and even the laconic historian of the Royal Frankish Annals, normally concerned only with kings and wars and eclipses, was sufficiently moved by that event to break into his narrative in 811 and add, "... the elephant which Harun, King of the Saracens sent, suddenly died." this week, alice got her new dog sister, an aussie/chessie/dobie/lab named june. these first few days have been rough, i have to be honest. the puppy is the complete opposite of how alice was as a baby. alice never whined or cried. alice never (believe it or not!) chewed on anything other than her toys. alice's biting phase lasted all of three attempts to nibble my fingers. alice was a super eater from day one and i never once had to get up with her for middle of the night potty breaks. the new puppy does all of the above and more! alice is doing great with the puppy, generally just ignoring her but she is interacting more and more. june came from a litter of 10 pups and spent the last couple of weeks mixed in with another litter of 9 pups that were a week older, so she is quite used to the company of dogs. i meant to use a photo of the two pups together for this week, but i liked this look on alice's face so i had to choose it for the project.

This is Su Lin, born on August 2, 2005 at the San Diego Zoo. I took this photo in January 2006 so she was only about 6 months old here. The whole time I was at the Panda exhibit, this little ball of panda fur was asleep in the trees, just like this.

I Shall Call Him Fishy
And He shall be mine, and he shall be my fishy.
This is my new baby (2nd) cousin; Micah Landon. (He was almost a week over due, and I waited almost two weeks with no wifi for my Nook, at my aunt's house. Only to have him come the day before I headed back home.)
The reason I call him fishy, is because the week before he came, we were sitting in church, and he wasn't moving, so my cousin, she was using her pen to fake poke her stomach mouthing "Wake up fishy!" from Finding Nemo. Now we had been having a debate over the past week what to call him, because she doesn't want him called Mike. So I've started to call him Fishy. :)
My cousin also has no idea how to label off our family. She keeps calling me his aunt, which I'm not. After a while I just stopped correcting her, and started saying "Come to Cousin-Auntie"
You can bet you'll be seeing alot of my Fishy on here. :) <3

Ladybug Baby Shower Cake
This cake had a few firsts for me. First time making ribbon roses, first time making big bows, first time using my oh-so-fun wire. I think it turned out pretty cute. Ladybug themes are so popular right now it seems.
Top tier is 8" chocolate cake, filled and iced with chocolate buttercream. Bottom tier is 10" white cake, filled and iced with vanilla buttercream. Cake is covered with marshmallow fondant and all decorations (except baby name and bead border) are made with 50/50 mix of gumpaste and fondant.

Day 245-- Part three in the continuing saga of the sick baby. Did I clone out a huge amount of personal information? Yes, I did.
Day three of Annika's fever dawned, and while the fever was better, the rash was worse. It was getting pretty gross, and Annika still didn't have one single symptom of a cold as diagnosed by the ER doctor, so we decided it was time to go back to the doctor. We were on vacation, a good three hours from our doctor's office, so our choices were the emergency room at the hospital (again) or the urgent care clinic. We opted for the urgent care clinic, because it sure didn't look like an emergency and we thought it would be a simple follow up visit.
My mom took Emily to Vacation Bible School at my in-laws' church while my husband and I took Annika to the doctor. After a grueling two hours, the doctor finally checked her out and reported back to us.
Annika had two ear infections and a throat infection that looked like strep throat. The initial strep test came back negative, but he would send it off to the lab to grow cultures and double check. She also had a diaper rash/ yeast infection and eczema, both of which opened up her skin to another infection, which was either strep or staph. If it was a staph infection, it was most likely MRSA, because that's what has been going around lately. MRSA is drug-resistant and won't respond to traditional antibiotics, so it is treated with sulfa drugs. This might not be a problem, except a baby whose daddy is allergic to sulfa (like my husband) has a good chance of sharing that allergy. Her hands and feet were also covered in blisters from coxsackie virus (hand foot mouth disease) which is highly contagious but not serious and is generally not treated.
The poor doctor was in over his head, and pointed out that he really works at a big first aid station and isn't equipped to deal with situations like this.
He decided to start antibiotics for the ear infections and hope that it would also wipe out the strep throat (if that's what it was) and the strep rash (if that's what it was) and then see what happened.
As we were sitting around waiting for the and feeling overwhelmed, we got a call saying we needed to take Emily home because she was sick.
That's right! We're not done with this saga yet!
We got Annika's medicine (long and unpleasant trip to the ) while my mom got Emily. We met up at my parents' house, gave Emily a popsicle to help with the sore throat and fever that had appeared out of nowhere, and regrouped. My mom and husband stayed with the sick baby, and I took her sick sister back to the clinic. I assumed that since the doctor had just seen her sister, this would be a pretty straight-forward visit to get another bottle of antibiotics.
HA! After an hour and fifteen minutes of waiting with a miserable child, I finally convinced the receptionist/nurse to give Emily some Motrin for her fever. A few minutes later, she threw up all over the floor, the chair, her shoes, and our legs. The receptionist was really nice about helping to get us cleaned up and getting a bag to catch the rest of the barf, but then she told us that the doctor wanted us to go to the emergency room at the hospital instead of continuing to wait there. Yes, an hour and a half of waiting, and all we had to show for it was a paper bag containing vomit-soaked sandals. Sigh.
So I heaved my daughter, who is much heavier than her baby sister but too sick and barefoot to walk, out to the car and then into the hospital. Fortunately, the ER wasn't nearly as busy as it was two days ago, so we only had to wait about half an hour.
Emily's strep test also came back negative, but the doctor said she smelled like strep and agreed that she probably had what her sister had. Her legs, hands, and feet were also starting to get bumpy. Emily was given anti-nausea medicine. We waited 20 minutes for that to kick in. Then she was given Motrin again for the fever. Then we waited for her and check out.
At this point, I had spent five or six hours at various medical facilities and knew I had another trip before me, and that it would be difficult because I neglected to bring the proper insurance information on vacation with me. I hadn't eaten anything, so we stopped for a 4:00 lunch on the way to the . By the time we got home, it was time for dinner, medicine all around, and bedtime.

This is how it goes all day...And although her spirit is awesome I know she's in pain..
She still feels really warm, so I hope the medicine will work quickly...
