Atkomatic Solenoid Valves

atkomatic solenoid valves

    solenoid valves
  • (Solenoid valve) A solenoid valve is an electromechanical valve for use with liquid or gas. The valve is controlled by an electric current through a solenoid coil.

  • (solenoid valve) An electrical device operated by a magnetic coil to make the valve either open for flow or closed to shut off water flow.

  • (Solenoid Valve) A quick-opening valve which is mounted on a pressurized tank. The opening of the valve generates a cleaning pulse which dislodges the dust from the filter elements.

CAST IRON FLAP VALVES - FLAP VALVES

Cast iron flap valves - Pressure relief valve calibration - John deere hydraulic valve.

Cast Iron Flap Valves

cast iron flap valves

    flap valves
  • (Flap valve) A hinged flap within a plumbing system that restricts water flow to one direction, preventing backflow.

  • (Flap Valve) Same as "Check Valve." -- A valve arranged to permit a flow in one direction only, thereby preventing the return of the fluid.

  • A valve opened and closed by a plate hinged at one side

    cast iron
  • A hard, relatively brittle alloy of iron and carbon that can be readily cast in a mold and contains a higher proportion of carbon than steel (typically 2.0–4.3 percent)

  • Firm and unchangeable

  • Cast iron usually refers to grey iron, but also identifies a large group of ferrous alloys, which solidify with a eutectic. The colour of a fractured surface can be used to identify an alloy.

  • an alloy of iron containing so much carbon that it is brittle and so cannot be wrought but must be shaped by casting

  • extremely robust; "an iron constitution"

CHEMICAL CHECK VALVE : CHECK VALVE

CHEMICAL CHECK VALVE : SAFETY VALVE SETTING.

Chemical Check Valve

chemical check valve

    check valve
  • A valve that closes to prevent backward flow of liquid

  • Limits the flow of gas to one direction only. Use a check valve between the bubbler and generator to prevent unwanted pressure build up in the generator, and a safety against a low level bubbler. A check valve, such as used on torches, is recommended.

  • A check valve, clack valve, non-return valve or one-way valve is a mechanical device, a valve, which normally allows fluid (liquid or gas) to flow through it in only one direction.

  • A valve which will allow water to pass in one direction but will close and prevent flow (backflow) in the opposite direction.

Last show piece and a big disappointment

Last show piece and a big disappointment

This is the last piece, it's a mosaic the same size as the others 12" square. Tomorrow I'll start showing daily drawings again.

So what is the big disappointment? Well, I worked my butt off today, 5 hours spraying weeds, tramping all over our 10 acres and guess what? My butt is still there, right behind me. Bummer.

The weed spraying is why I'm so late on posting too, it's a yucky job especially because we were so late that a lot of weeds had already come up and were flourishing happily. Besides that, something went wrong with a valve in our water system and we don't have any water today. We had to use our neighbors water for the chemicals to spray and we just had to "wipe down" afterwards until it gets fixed. There is a guy working on it now, I sure hope it doesn't take long or cost much.

The drawing I'm working on now is an idea for a book plate, I'd like to do some as lino cuts.

So, that's all I have to report for now, there is a lot I can't do today because of the water being off. At least the computer is connecting to the internet and I can check in on my LJ friends.

ELECTRIC ACTUATOR BUTTERFLY VALVE. BUTTERFLY VALVE

ELECTRIC ACTUATOR BUTTERFLY VALVE. SAFETY VALVE DRAWING. RADIATOR BLEED VALVE SCREW.

Electric Actuator Butterfly Valve

electric actuator butterfly valve

    electric actuator
  • (Electric actuators) An electric motor uses electrical energy to produce mechanical energy, very typically through the interaction of magnetic fields and current-carrying conductors.

  • Also known as an Electro-Mechanical Actuator uses an electrically operated motor-driven gear train or screw to position the actuator stem. The actuator may respond to either a digital or analog electrical signal.

  • Actuators are used for the automation of industrial valves and can be found in all kinds of technical process plants: they are used in wastewater treatment plants, power plants and even refineries. This is where they play a major part in automating process control.

    butterfly valve
  • A valve consisting of a disk rotating on an axis across the diameter of a pipe to regulate the flow, as in the throttles of many engines

  • a valve in a carburetor that consists of a disc that turns and acts as a throttle

  • (Butterfly Valves) A valve consisting of a cylindrical body with a rotating vane to control flow. Tight Shutoff is obtained by an elastomer body liner into which the vane seats.

  • A butterfly valve is a valve which can be used for isolating or regulating flow. The closing mechanism takes the form of a disk. Operation is similar to that of a ball valve, which allows for quick shut off.

  • A valve consisting of a pair of semicircular plates that are attached to a spindle across a pipe and hinged to allow flow only one way

    valve lifters
  • (Valve lifter) A tappet in mechanical engineering is a projection which imparts a linear motion to some other component within an assembly.

  • (Valve Lifter) The cylindrical component that presses against the lobe of a camshaft and moves up and down as the cam lobe rotates, opening and closing an intake or exhaust valve. Virtually all modern valve lifters are of an hydraulic design that uses a cushion foil to promote quiet operation.

  • (Valve lifter) sometimes called a "cam follower," a component in engine designs that use a linkage system between a cam and the valve it operates. The lifter typically translates the rotational motion of the cam to a reciprocating linear motion in the linkage system.

  • A machine with moving parts that converts power into motion

  • A railroad locomotive

valve servicing

valve servicing

The valve cover is clearly leaking oil, so it will be replaced. The leaking gasket may be the culprit that started the noisy hydraulic valve lifters in the first place, because the lifters need a constant supply of oil to function correctly.

The valves are making noise on this truck. In the past you would clearly need a valve clearance adjustment. However, this engine is equiped with hydraulic valve lifters which require no adjustment and zero clearance. Somehow there is noise coming from the rocker cover assembly and something needs to be fixed in here. I did the easiest part: removing the cover, but finding out where to proceed from here will be a little tricky.

What a way to end the month! I'm so pleased with how this set has turned out. I only did an hour of shooting and took 93 pics. I feel as if I am well on top of the set up now.

I have seen this idea with the eye refraction somewhere before but can't remember where - either in a magazine or on Flickr.

There is NO trickery or Photoshop involved! I own no special equipment (I have read about water valves and sensors to trigger flash guns etc). I just have my Canon 500d with its pop up flash and some extension tubes - that is it!

I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy doing them.

Bees-T-Boy

Bees-T-Boy

#322/322/365
Replaced the leaking supa-dupa-lightweight Bees airspring/oildamper with a slightly used German A (for Answer) LRS light air+coilspring/oildamper unit.
The setup is not yet perfect, but at least I do not have to worry about packing the shock airpump every time...
(The coilspring is too strong for me and my airpump does not work with the valve of the airspring...)
The Faunus LSD is rather special because it needs a 320mm long shock with ~80mm travel, which makes finding "cheap" parts difficult.

Edit after one month:
I am sure the German:A LRS damper is a great thing, but probably not so much on the Bergwerk Faunus LSD with the "old" 1:1 lever system. It seems underdamped for the rebound, hitting the travel limit often. Reducing the air pressure further makes the bike sag too much. I had to remove the steel coil spring completely: The bike did not sag at all (I weigh 75kg). I assume that the geometry of the Merida/Centurion LRS is just different enough that the damper cannot be switched easily. For the time I can live with that, though.
Edit after 6 months:
As it turned out, the used LRS damper had a defective damping stage. I sent it in for repair and when I received it back, the ride was much improved. In fact, it was great.

After a few weeks, I heard a squeaky sound. I could not detect it at first. But during a stop, I investigated again in the good daylight. Well, shock my horror, the lever moving the damper (Anlenkwippe) had developed a fracture. Of course, it was there where someone felt the need to mill away a few grams of aluminium, thereby creating a "nice" stress concentration point and thereby basically a"predetermined breaking point". Dear bike manufacturers, stop messing with your customers' lives to save a few grams. This is unacceptable. These frames cost an arm and a leg, they should not fail like that. This is really poor engineering and not worthy of a premium brand. Not worthy of an engineer. You could have saved weight at other places at almost no risk. #meh#

I was able to source a replacement part (same design) and a new design milled from aluminium with worse finish and slightly different kinematics. These different kinematics should lessen the problems. The new part has pockets milled, too, but the damper force is transmitted into the revolute axis directly.

1951 Berlin-Große Angelina

1951 Berlin-Große Angelina

Very little is known about this radio manufacturer except they produced three different models, and apparently several versions of the "Angelina" as well. Won this one as the sole paddle at the opening bid of $9.99. Shipping was only $30 via FedEx from three thousand miles away; and this is one heavy full-seize behemoth with very thick slabs of heartwood alder. Usually I suggest UPS Ground for heavyweights, and they're getting close to $85 total for a coast-to-coast shipment these days, when they only were $55-$60 last spring. One tube needs to be replaced, and the caps and resistors up to the EL80 were swollen and fried. Other than that, where most era German superhets had piano key pushbuttons, this unit is pretty much uneventful from the front except for the basic dial glass layout and the magic eye. The volume and tuning are left and right as usual, but the band selector knob is on the right side. There are two speakers, but no bass/treble adjustment. The cabinetry is beautiful and near mint, but raw alder rubbed over with oak stain just doesn't look natural at all to me. Alder is a bit porous and mottles when merely stained with a rag soaked in stain. I'd like to do a very light blonde treatment if the stain isn't soaked in too deep.

SHOWER THERMOSTATIC VALVE : SHOWER THERMOSTATIC

SHOWER THERMOSTATIC VALVE : PLASTIC CHECK VALVE

Shower Thermostatic Valve

shower thermostatic valve

    thermostatic valve
  • Pressure-balancing shower mixing valve with automatic temperature control. When temperature or pressure fluctuations occur at the water inlets, a thermal actuator adjusts the hot and cold ratio to maintain the original temperature setting.

  • A rough in valve that allows the user to dial the specific temperature degree that they want the water at, i.e. 100 degrees. Usually requires a separate volume control valve.

  • Valve controlled by temperature change response elements.

    shower
  • A brief and usually light fall of rain, hail, sleet, or snow

  • lavish: expend profusely; also used with abstract nouns; "He was showered with praise"

  • a plumbing fixture that sprays water over you; "they installed a shower in the bathroom"

  • A mass of small things falling or moving at the same time

  • A large number of things happening or given to someone at the same time

  • spray or sprinkle with; "The guests showered rice on the couple"

Bathroom... 98.9% near done

Bathroom... 98.9% near done

I dig this room.

The next bathroom we design needs to be crazy dark or red or... way funky but still beautiful. While this is slick, it's super white and near-hospital-like.

The Meta shower knobs were a compromise, and I shouldn't have bended. While they're fine, it's not exactly the best designed knobs for when your hands are foamy and wet.

Things I love:
* duravit sink + cabinet (took 4+ months to arrive from time of order)
* toto water-saving toilet
* dornbracht sink faucet + handle
* duravit inset vanity w/lighting
* floor tiles
* thermostatic valves in the shower

Stuff that's so-so:
* Meta knobs
* Too many knobs in shower
* tub design - while it's one of the better, deeper tubs for the space, we could only accommodate a 5' tub. It's near impossible to find a fab tub that size. Next time, with more room we'll consider something quite round, tall, and elegant (a la Wet or Duravit Happy D).
* window design (see comments below)

This picture was shot in diffused sun light with EF 100mm F2.8 Macro lens. The background was edited in PS. I would have liked the centre column to have looked cylindrical, with some more time I cud have achieved it with directional light, or with reflectors and diffusers. The point I wanted toi make is that, it is possible to get decent product images in sunlight. This is a bad example :)

Valve, globe

Globe valves are often used for controlling flows because they wear evenly. The valve should make a bubble tight closure even after significant wear.

The Watts family

The Watts family

Seated in the centre are Herbert Watts and his wife Jane (née Lincoln).

The couple had 8 children in Clapham, but only 4 survived. Whilst there was definitely an earlier Newman Watts (1893), the other three children are not confirmed, but could have been:

Alice Florence Watts bpt 1904
Lucy Jane Watts bpt 1904 (same day)
Ida Lucy Watts bur 1909 (1yr)

I'm assuming therefore that the four are pictured here now:

At the back would be Martena Watts (L), Rosa Vera Watts (R) but then the two men on the far left and far right are not so easy to identify. One would be Newman Watts, born around 1895. The other is Lincoln Watts born in 1892. I've been trying to work out which male looks like a minister. At one point, in 1911, Lincoln was a Post Office Clerk, whilst Newman was a Telegraph Messenger. Herbert was a Grocer, and Jane, having left home to go into service as a housemaid, reached Cook and finally Midwife.

Lincoln went on to become a missionary, spending a large amount of his life in India and Sri Lanka preaching. He had previously attended the Eden Chapel in Cambridge (most recently The Footlights restaurant). Lincoln wrote a few books during his time and appears to have been highly regarded in the UK. In India however, not all was good.

Lincoln married Ethel Alice Hines and they had a daughter.

Rosa appears to have married James William Rippon.

Martena appears to have married David Arthur Thrower, another missionary and author. Together (Martena noted as a Missionary in 1939), they went out to Bombay (modern Mumbai) and Madras as missionaries. They returned to England with growing family in tow in November 1932 and again in April 1939.
